Homely, spacious and clean. I used the quadruple room and the shower was very good, it had a nice rooflight and the heater was nice and warm. Lots of space.
In general, all was ok.

Homely, spacious and clean. I used the quadruple room and the shower was very good, it had a nice rooflight and the heater was nice and warm. Lots of space.
In general, all was ok.
The room was lovely, and the en suite was great. The staff are friendly and the food delicious. The pub is so nice; we sat by the fire enjoying food and drinks. Perfect.
Great location and very pretty.
All good.
Lovely staff, great location and a nice big room and shower was good. Cosy pub and nice options for ales, beer and wine. We didn't get chance to eat jn the pub.
I really didn't find the beds very comfortable. The main bed had a mattress which we found very hard and the sofa bed was incredibly uncomfortable. My children moaned a lot and this made it less of an enjoyable stay than it could have been.
Location, staff, charm
Beautiful pub, decorated lovely and the staff are so polite and helpful. The room was next door to the pub, and it’s in a great location.
We had dinner and breakfast at the pub, which was ok.. not good but not bad. Wouldn’t eat there again if we stayed. While they’ve renovated the bathroom, areas still need doing like replacing the door and handles, the carpet in the roof and the sofa bed was SO uncomfortable.
Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable and the bed was very good. If you are exploring the area or staying in the village for an event at Peaks Cavern a fantastic location.
There was only a clothes rail in our room, which was a loft room, and was just about big enough for our stay. If you were staying longer and needed more clothes space you'd have problems and would be living out of your suitcase.
Beautiful traditional stone building, cosy pub, warm and staff very friendly. Parking available, room has a bath and location was very central
There were some rude inpatient guests who gave the bar staff a hard time and I really felt for them. We tried to compensate by reassuring them they were doing a great job and we had had a lovely time.
The Castle was in an excellent location for our friends who were all meeting up. Ideal to walk from. Rooms comfortable, although a little cold. Restaurant decor was lovely.
Lack of parking an issue, as the car park was tiny and always full. Managed to park on the road nearby in the end. We were a party of eight which seemed to cause problems with good. We ate a meal in the evening and had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our starters and a further hour for mains! Even though we had booked our stay and meal well in advance. All doors in the premises were grubby and needed a good clean.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Facilities were comfortable and great value for money.
I was happy with everything
Loved the location and the atmosphere.
Very good accommodation in an excellent location in Castleton. The hotels car park gets very busy but there is off road parking. Wi-Fi is poor.
Great location and friendly staff
Limited parking
The location was perfect for our needs, the breakfast was amazing and we had a nice bedroom
The Church across the road chimes every 1/4 hour from 7 am to 11 pm and at the weekend it was noisy because it was busy. Can be difficult to park and the car park is small so you may have to park in the road.
Location exquisite, room wonderful.
Slow service for dinner.
Location was very good, staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was very good. The decor of restaurant, bar and room was very nice.
The bathroom and shower were a bit tight, but there was plenty of hot water and good pressure. The room was on the ground floor right next to a busy footpath and road, but did eventually quieten down. Very small car park, but managed to park on the side for free and was on a relatively quiet side road.
Location was superb. Rooms were clean and tidy with everything you needed. Breakfast was excellent.
Was a little chilly in night but a portable radiator was in the room and that worked perfectly.
Relaxing atmosphere in a high quality environment.
No issues
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel, the food was absolutely amazing. The staff were also fantastic so friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay.
Nice location, very English and good value
Noisy floorboards but it added to the character😬
Fantastic place to stay and visit the beautiful village, well recommended.
The rooms and the pub very nice and very friendly
Breakfast good.
Bathroom was clean but a bit small. difficult to exit car park. Booking.com did not pay the hotel so I had to pay twice and go through the hassle of proving I had paid x2 to get my refund despite having the paper work showing I had already paid, not the fault of the hotel but the fault of booking.com
The accommodation was very clean and of good size. The staff were really lovely and helpful.. The food was delicious.. overall, no complaints..
Nothing to dislike
The staff are very friendly and polite. The restaurant and bar are excellent. The food is very good. Excellent location. Well positioned within the village Very comfy bed and pillows. Amazing pub. Love the place.
There wasn't anything we didn't really like. There are a few niggles which need to be addressed to bring rooms upto scratch. Our room had clearly, at some point, been flooded by a leak from the room above quite some time ago,we have even experienced this in 4-star hotels.. The paper was peeling. The decor wasn't just tired it was exhausted. The bath had a crack in it. When you stood in the bath to use the shower unless you put towels along the edge, it flooded the bathroom. The bath is a massive old corner bath. The tiles look shabby, and the grout looks dirty. You even needed to ask for a bath mat, which is a very basic safety requirement. The height of the bath and its size make it incredibly hard for people with disabilities to use it. Replaced the tired bath with a modern walk in shower. Decorate the room. We stayed in August and paid £138 for our room with breakfast. This time, it was almost £180 a night without breakfast. Yes, the room was larger, however, the condition of the room in my view would mean a lower price. We really like the Castle. The pub is excellent, but the rooms really need some TLC. Cant fault how clean they were.. We will stop again because we like the staff, the location and the food, however, the rooms need some money spending on them. Also, move the drink making facility from under the TV to the alcove. Steam and TV's don't mix well.
Lovely modern, clean room. Staff were all polite. Rooms were a little noisy, floorboards and the church bells but nothing that upset us!
More choice would have been nice at breakfast, only get a cooked breakfast or toast/croissant.
Beautifully room
Lovely friendly staff, good location, reasonably priced good food.
Our room was directly above the bar and being an old building and having speakers attached to the ceiling below (that we were not told about during check in) it sounded like we were sitting above party until after the bar closed.
Clean and lovely environment
Nothing
Our stay is Castleton was a short honeymoon stay, and we were pleasantly surprised to get a very nice room with a Mam Tor view. The room was big, the bathroom clean with all needed facilities. The location of The Castle is very convenient, it's close to a bus stop, shops and hiking trails.
The only thing to mention is a flaky WiFi connection in the room.
The location in Castleton is excellent. We were able to park on site which was very helpful
The wi-fi in our room was diabolical. Sadly this tainted the weekend away as it made planning activities etc for our stay challenging. Staff weren’t particularly responsive/warm in dealing with our concerns.
Perfect location Nice room
Nothing to really dislike
Location
There was significant noise from the room above. The tiles in the bathroom needed cleaning.
Comfortable
Parking
Friendly welcome 😊
Great property . Parking a bit tricky . Public car park across the road
Great location excellent food
Building, staff
Dust on beams
Very quaint and friendly staff.
Noisy guests above us and the beds not comfortable
Our room was in a separate building to the side of the pub which we were not expecting, so that was a nice surprise. It was a really cosy large room with a comfortable bed and modern shower. It was the perfect vibe for a countryside weekend stay. We went for the breakfast twice and the portion was massive, perfect start to the day before a long walk! The location was also perfect for doing any nearby walks.
The service at the bar/restaurant was a bit slow at times.
Location
Ease of booking in and out .
Breakfast times confusion , the book in my room number 8 states breakfast upto 11 am but its not its latest 9:30
Location was great right in the centre
The room given was not as the listing it said bath and when we went to ask they said shower or bath. We booked the property as it said bath! One member of staff was a bit bolshy but another member over heard and moved us.
Our room was in a small annexe at the rear of the pub. This made access very easy for coming and going. The room was very clean and also nice and cool on a very hot weekend. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. Parking is limited but we were always able to find a space. This was my second stay here, I am sure I will be back again. It is in an excellent location.
Nothing, it was all good
Great food (breakfast & dinner). Lovely pub atmosphere. Good real ales on tap. Friendly staff.
Good location. Good food. Friendly staff. Even had a comfy bed. Lots of space to eat and drink inside and outside the pub/hotel. The menu isn't massive ,however, we couldn't fault the food. Breakfast is very good.
Very small carpark.
Perfect location for a gig in Peak Cavern, local pubs and sites. Very comfortable room with a splendid bathroom. Really good food prepared to order. Very friendly and polite staff.
No complaints at all. Even the price was significantly lower than the last time I stayed here in 2023.
No complaints, comfy clean room, nice property, great location, very busy (affected dining experience but complaint made re this).
Main complaint was that staff were in and out of a staff only door opposite our room, constantly from early hours for about an hour. This affected our ability to sleep. Woken early and unable to get back to sleep. Door was banging and banging! No consideration given to the paying guest opposite.
The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable.
No TV signal and very weak wifi. It was a windy night in the valley and staff blamed this for the lack of TV signal. This didn't excuse the poor wifi though. The duty manager gave me access to a staff wifi account but this was just as bad. I was forced to hotspot to my phone which isn't really an acceptable alternative. The room I had was next to one of the boiler rooms which made it unbearably hot. This meant that while the bed was really comfortable, I didn't get a very good night's sleep.
The property was extremely clean and just overall welcoming! A lovely place to stay!
The wifi connection wasn’t great in room 2 but that was okay for one night!
Location
Great location. We didn’t bring a car but would’ve been able to get parked fine if we had have done - spaces available on the street behind earlier on in the day. We were in the annexe behind the pub and our room was large and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful when checking in and out.
As we were in the room on the ground floor, we could hear every (very creaky) footstep in the room above us and on the staircase. The family above us woke us up twice by slamming the external door. We didn’t mention this to staff, as there was nothing they could’ve done but it’s something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper. Room very basic and nowhere to sit other than the bed or the one desk chair. Fine if you are out and about.
Very cosy inn & pub, comfort and good food
We loved the situation, the bedroom and beds were very comfortable and the general character of the place.
Nothing to not like!
Great location
The Castle is located right in the centre of Castleton . Its a beautiful building which has been sympathetically decorated and is run by very friendly, helpful and knowledgable staff. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
The only thing I could think of is the insulation between the ground floor and upstairs.
The charm of the building, friendly staff & service. Plug sockets & USB’s in abundance and in practical places a rarity for most hotels.
Nothing
We liked the accommodation alot and the staff were lovely it was very expensive for accommodation and an evening meal , although it was very good .
I got home and I'd been charged for an extra meal that we didn't have ? I phoned and they apologised and credited my account
The location is excellent. We were there for a concert at the Peak Cavern. It is 7-8 minute walk away. The room was a good size. A hairdryer, a fan etc... Nice and quiet over night.
It is a shame that the toilet is so close to the wall. Sitting on an angle sideways was interesting except for the toilet roll holder pressed against your ribs. (I am not over weight).
Great location, friendly staff.
No air con, but they did provide a fan.
Location and parking. Comfy huge bed. Was quiet even though the pub was very busy. Great breakfast.
Smelt a little damp, maybe just the room we had. Pitted bath (thought it was dirty but was just pitting) Dirty windowsill.
