Very friendly staff
Great location
Staff were kind and attentive. Building where the hostel is located looks very nice.
Located a bit far out from the village’s main section where all pubs and coffee shops are. WiFi doesn’t work inside the rooms. Rooms are basic. No shower gel provided. Towels available at a rental price.
No breakfast ordered. The grounds were lovely. Kitchen well equipped.
The room was no more than a cupboard and decoration was very poor with paint peeling off the walls and rough areas. The room smelt of damp. The bedside lamp only worked on the first night. The outside door and inner door were outside my room so there was a continual banging of the door which shook my door and noisy chatter. The toilet didn’t flush properly and smelt all the time. The showers floor was rotting away and dangerous as such. For some reason I was charged £100 more when I booked the room, as compared to when I was looking. So terribly over-priced. I asked to move but they were full. Although the staff were generally help, when I told the woman on the desk about the room she was disinterested at best.
I liked the free parking, great social rooms, good reception and walks straight from the car park gate. Lovely surroundings and easy to walk to the town. Good meals at a great price.
Good breakfast
Shower
Surroundings.
No chair in the room
Great location friendly staff Great breakfast
Good location, nice historic building
The room could have used a deep clean. I understand that a hostel isn’t a luxury resort, but unidentifiable white stains on the curtains were too much even for a hostel. The carpet could have been a lot cleaner. In general, I don’t understand why hostels put carpets on the floors - it’s so unhygienic! Only a very small part of a large window could be open - poor air quality in the room. There was no space to put or hang anything in the shower. On the other hand, there were several hooks near the toilet (in another room, 30 cm above the floor). It looked like the person who installed it did not bother with thinking about how are people going to use it. This could easily be solved!
The Rooms and kitchen were really clean. And the location was perfect to start our hike to mam tor.
The rooms had only beds and no tables or chairs and only one small closet barely enough for one person… The shower unit had no hook at all. Also the breakfast had only few options
The grounds was so beautiful, loved seeing the sheep and hearing them. It’s a beautiful building. The acres are stunning.
The beds were so uncomfortable, the wasps in the room was horrendous. Three room changes in the space of 4 days was ridiculous. The carpets smelt of damp. Didn’t always have access to the kitchens. Kitchens were a fair distance from the accommodation itself.
Nice staff, quiet and good location, good for family.
Can't find any.
Location and price Staff were very helpful and gave us advice on walk to take
Great location, relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Nice location, short walk in to town. Lovely and relaxing.
I was not aware I needed to bring towels. The ceiling was needing repair and did not look nice.
Location was exceptional
The room with shower, the reception bar area, the kitchen, the grounds
You warned me lol but I ate and Indian in my room and even though I bagged the empty container a squirrel stuck his head in my window looking for leftovers! I closed the window and brought all refuse into the kitchen to dispose of it. Lol
The location and the extensive grounds. The bathrooms were also fine in our on-suite room.
The evening food offering was very poor in terms of both quality and size! In addition, the rooms were very small with minimal toiletries. Had I been paying a 'yha' price, this would have been acceptable but this was not the case. In future I may consider camping in the grounds of the hostel, but upon enquiring about the pitch fees, it appeared that a family of four could quite possibly pay £100 a night in August for a non-electric pitch, which in my view is simply disgraceful! For a youth hostel (and remembering its heritage and non-hotel / accredited campsite status etc) to apply dynamic pricing to camping fees in verging on immoral!
Cadre exceptionnel, beaucoup de charme, très reposant, personnel agréable, propreté, emplacement très pratique
Location was very good. So close to town
The shower was very dirty. No hot water. The bedroom had spiders. No toiletries was given. Not even towels.
Not far to walk to castleton could sit out in the sun kitchen to cook and make a drink if wanted
Nothing like it all
Really lovely friendly and helpful staff.
I wasn't crazy about the bunk beds! But its a hostel so great value for money.
Lovely old building, garden to sit in, seating areas inside, had an ensuote room, food available to order, licences bar, walking distance to lovely Castleton , caves, mam tor just a beautiful area
Breakfast - great food but everyone came in at once and wasn’t prepared for that - the girls did their best and they did check at the end that we’d had enough to eat
A very well run YHA with attentive hard working staff. Ideal location and great facilities. Feels safe, inclusive and relaxing.
Unfortunately the pricing of YHAs has become non competitive for smaller families/groups, often costing more than a local hotel. They are expensive to run so I understand, but it defeats their original purpose. The pricing structure is very opaque, again not really in the ethos of the organisation.
Greenery and space
Pathways towards the room (from reception to P3) are not clean.
Its was almost perfect. I cant wait to visit again. So peacefull.
Shower roon could do with shelf/hook
Easy check in friendly staff
Run down
Location was great. Food was delicious and fresh. Staff were super kind and helpful. And of course...the sheep were cherry on the top for our kids.
Great location and beautiful surroundings. we booked a 4 bunk room for the family. The beds are a little narrow if you are over 6ft tall though! The room was simple but clean and the bathroom was too.
For the price, it's hard to say anything negative! Apparently the sheep were a pain in the campsite but we were warned about that so not much can be done. Bring earplugs! I would recommend getting a pool table or something in.
Tolle Lage! Personal super nett.
Stuffy, I was on my own in 4-bunk bed. No air circulation.
Fantastic, atmospheric building
every door closes with a bang. should be kept cleaner
amazing location, great parking and the building is fantastic. It was clean and comfortable and outside areas were extremely well looked after
As other reviewers have said, Staying here in a heatwave is torture!!! we had a small double bunk room which at 100.00 per night is not by any means low value and needed to be outside the room as much as we could as the heat was oppressive. Only a small opening window for ventilation meant we ended up sleeping on the floor when we did find it absolutely necessary to go to bed! Having stayed at Hostels worldwide in hotter conditions, this was without question the hottest room we have ever stayed in. We appreciate that it’s an old building and the weather is a natural issue but perhaps YHA need to consider whether they should be letting the hottest rooms over a certain temperature!
Stunning location, comfortable beds, amazing value and good breakfast in the morning. Super handy for public transport and to walk into the village. Staff were lovely. It was very hot when we stayed and we were able to borrow a fan for a small deposit, which made a big difference.
Location
For a £110 per night. I would expect more, even though it's a YHA
Perfect location a short walk to town & the beautiful countryside
Unfortunately shower near pod was broken but we were able to access another one nearby.
Excellent location and best value for money in that area. Staff were so friendly and helpful despite clearly working under a lot of pressure. Great service. Clean and comfortable, good food at dinner.
You’ve got to remember to order breakfast night before. Unfortunately, we forgot, and since the reception isn’t manned until later in the morning/day we had to grab food elsewhere.
staff were friendly, facilities were excellent and it was a great location as a base for a couple of days around the peak district! would 100% stay here again
like most places in the uk, the rooms aren’t equipped to handle heat- we stayed during a heatwave and were absolutely sweltering all night
Good continental breakfast
Large pipes in bedroom (B4) scalding hot all night, and although radiators were off they were also hot. So we were far too hot 🔥 My friend thought you may be able to insulate the pipes if it's too structurally difficult to do anything else.
The location was perfect. The dinner was exceptional, and very fairly priced. The staff were helpful. There was a free fill up station for water which was very handy.
Our room was like a sauna. It was unbearably hot due to the hot pipes running through it. We were able to borrow a fan which helped a bit, but it was still very uncomfortable to sleep in with the heat.
Really comfortable room and fantastic breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful. I was pregnant and concerned about the heat, they moved my room to a cooler one and were able to give me a fan. They were really helpful, full of advice and really went above and beyond.
Nothing.
It was a good location and it was clean.
It’s very old and the room was extremely hot so didn’t get much sleep.
Atmosphere
N
Fijn jeugdhotel het zou leuk zijn als ze wat meer comfortabele zitjes op het terras zouden hebben en niet alleen maar van die picknick bankjes die niet echt uitnodigen tot lekker luieren met een boek in je hand.
Had everything we needed. Good value for money. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great!
No wifi in room Lack of parking
Great location and setting. The room was clean and just what we needed. Lovely helpful and welcoming staff.
The beds were pretty hard to sleep on and we weren’t able to open the window so a little stuffy and smelly! Breakfast a little pricey for what we actually had, though we recognise you have to cover costs for those who will eat a large one!
Kitchen space , cleanliness.
I forgot my stuff in the room , no buddy bothered to Inform/contact me … its still with them.
The location is stunning - a YHA in the heart of the Peak District in what seems like an old stately home and all its grounds - what could be better?
Not much really!
Decent breakfast, beautiful surroundings. Spacious car park. Great staff
Shower block could do with more space to get changed. A little tatty in places
Nice building and location. The staff is very nice although not super quick to check-in.
Room was very hot (they seemed to have an issue with heating staying on during our stay). We'd have liked to be able to open the windows a bit more. The corridors are a bit smelly.
Lovely old property. Great base for exploring the Peak District.
Check in was complicated in that there was a group of 6 of us and everyone had to check in with the lead booker. Everyone arrived at different times therefore this was difficult to achieve.
Historic
Stayed in a land pod - the bedding and bed were probably the comfiest I’ve ever slept in. Chilled out in the evening in the main building, felt like I had the place to myself. Drying room was a massive bonus as got soaked during the day!!!
Smelled a bit…. but so did I after hiking all day so all good.!!
God beliggenhed.
Manglede varme på mit værelse, det blev ret fugtigt og koldt.
Very nice YHA just a few minutes' walk from Castleton. The building is beautiful. We booked a single room on a weekday for a great price. Our room was clean. Staff was nice and welcoming. Dinner was good. Great stay.
Nothing.
Good

Value for money and safe parking Helpful staff..
Nothing Didn't stay
Pods for teenagers,no light, shower doesn't work,no information, lack of information Wrong description on website Advertised as 2 double beds lol
It was a great location, very clean, great facilities and good value.
The room I was given was incredibly hot and radiators were off, window open 🥵 (still way too hot). I asked staff if they had a fan and the answer was no. They had no other room to move me to and informed me that my room was above the boiler room (room 7B). I sweltered all night and felt sick from it. To add to this, the room was end of a corridor, next to 3 exit / corridor doors. They were being opened and slammed shut repeatedly until after 1am. I wasn’t able to get to sleep due to this and the heat until 3am and still got up at 5am for my sunrise Mam Tor hike. This unfortunately ruined my stay and my sleep for days afterwards. For that reason, I would be reluctant to book there again.
Really nice location super convenient for hikes around mam tor and surrounding areas. Even got upgraded to a room with a private bathroom instead of a shared one - so very positive experience there.
A good 15 minute walk from the rest of castelon, a little inconvenient if looking for a bite to eat but otherwise was great.
Best place to stay on low price and with the little bit more uou guys can help on charity
I don’t have any points to hate it.
First time in YH, excellent kitchen facilities, public rooms and security,
Although bedrooms quite tired, small and basic, they were comfortable enough, but quite expensive
We loved the location, the food and how friendly the staff were. We enjoyed playing board games in the evening - a nice selection. It was easy to order breakfast and evening meal. We liked that there is a lot of communal space inside and outside.
The room was very hot, probably because it was next to a boiler.
The location, clean, friendly and very helpful staff
Nil
I really enjoyed the staff's hospitality, and the rooms for games, the well supplied kitchen and that the breakfast service was very efficient.
It would be very convenient to have more storage/hanging hooks in the rooms given we were 4 people in one room.
Spacious dining room and bedroom
Small shared kitchen and lounge area
Location and building
Room had lots of damage to the walls, ceiling and scuffs. No.windows
The scenery, the location, easy to check in and out, friendly staff.
Beds aren't that comfortable, and a bit small, but expected for the price, a d description.
Great location good facilities.
The building is beginning to look a little tired internally now with the need for a repaint and refresh paramount. Fixtures and fittings next.
Liked the environment
We were charged for towels. Expected Towels and Toiletries to be complimentary.
Beautiful location with lovely walks on your doorstep, lovely staff, excellent value for money. I really like the mattress - was perfect for my bad back! The room was nice and warm and I also very much enjoyed having my dinner in the lounge.
Everything was great! Thank you!
Stunning building
The bunk beds were a little basic and the breakfast was quite expensive (but lovely!)
Great location, good value for money, good for groups
Location, staff,
Room was very tired with Plaster coming off the walls through damp
The hostel is in a fantastic location. The staff were helpful and we had everything that we needed. It was great value for money.
It's a Youth Hostel so the bedrooms are quite basic (but the beds were comfortable).
