Beautiful building.. good location. Comfortable beds and friendly helpful staff
Central location
A bit tired, could do with a lick of paint
breakfast was excellent. Staff were pleasant.Rooms very comfortable.Location was great.
Only thing to mention on the negative side was in the breakfast room. The marble table we sat at could have done with a good clean around the top edges, it was really dirty. If this review is read by the staff and they go to check, they will see I'm not exaggerating.
Breakfast
Central, popular, reasonably priced, good food.
Front of house was not a great communicator. Otherwise, all good. Restaurant staff were brilliant.
Das Frühstück war gut, allerdings ist es gut nicht hinter den Tresen zu schauen. Ansonsten ist das Zimmer dem Alter des Gebäudes entsprechend.
Etwas zeitgemäßere Innenausstattung. Sauberkeit.
Central location decent breakfast
Strange reception but a chap who queried why we had booked a family room for 3 of us , telling us we would be too cramped yet he had nothing else available.
Location
Parking not available for all guests.
Good location, friendly and attentive staff, good b/fast included
All as great though bds could be upgraded
Lovely location, great reception. Excellent selection of real ales in the bar. Rooms are functional with enjoy suite showers. . Top breakfast with wide menu to choose from. Reception staff were friendly, breakfast staff deserve a mention too
YONH is tired in places, but that's balanced with the price which is excellent value for money and the hotel is in a great location. Tired in places yes, but this generally adds to the rustic charm I've seen negative reviews from guests, but as long as you're not expecting the ritz and remember how much you paid, can't be faulted
Location
Could do with updating.!!!!
The Olde Nags Head was in the middle of Castleton and had its own car park. The ‘olde’ styling carried on into our bedroom with a four-poster bed, mini chandeliers and a view of the castle behind. I really enjoyed the breakfast choices (eg. Full English, eggs Benedict). We had good meals in the restaurant in the evening too. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Location
Over night
Everything, historic , warm welcome, good food.
Nothing
The hotel is very central and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast went down a treat.
The mattress could of been better. One side was very springing and you could feel them whilst laying down.
Breakfast was very good.
Rather noisy in public areas but was a busy weekend so quite a few children staying.
Great location.
Restaurant menu states items are gluten-free, only to be told that this isn't the case. Very limited food choices due to items being unavailable. Expensive prices. Room was not overly clean. Very disappointing so checked out a day early.
Excellent location, right in the centre of Castleton. There is parking available nearby on a first come basis. The breakfast was very good, with freshly cooked options as well as fruit and cereal. We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel.
Because it is an old building, access to the rooms is up flights of stairs so wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Location absolutely fantastic. Rooms very clean and great value breakfast. Staff all friendly and helpful.
Parking is limited and not guaranteed which can be challenging at busy times. We got a space in the car park so all good but felt lucky to get one.
It was full of character and ideally situated
It was all good
Location is excellent. Spacious room good shower.
Sofa bed was very uncomfortable & not made up despite booking a twin room and arriving later than check in time. Breakfast was standard & what award it’s supposedly won I have no idea. Milk was off and despite telling staff, the reaction was “ not again”! We weren’t even offered fresh coffees despite having poured the milk into our cups.. The large jug of milk on the table for guests to pour into cereals was also not replaced. Appalling slow service.
Central location
Tatty and dirty. But fine if you’re only needing a bed for the night
Great location in a beautiful village. Lovely breakfast with lots of choice. Four poster bed was a nice touch. Good facilities.
Rather dated and dark. So not good if you want something more modern. Could probably do with a bit of a refresh.
breakfast was excellent and included a superb vegetarian option
Great location, friendly staff
Its location was the best thing about the property.
It is in need of refurbishment - the room carpet was worn, the window was held open with a brick, there was mould on the ceiling of the bathroom. The shower tiles and floor tiles were black in places. The plates which served breakfast were chipped. The food was cheap and not of great quality.
Great location, friendly staff, excellent beer and a tasty breakfast.
Central Location.
Accommodation, room, poor bathroom cracked floor tiles, unable to close bedroom window, screwed open ,rotten window frames. Doesn't look like room has been decorated for years. Bed was clean.
Breakfast room looking out onto the lovely village street. Decent breakfast which was modified for my dietary needs with no fuss. The room was very unique and had a lovely view of the village.
The water took a while to heat up in the bathroom. The key fobs are comically large!
Location was perfect Scenery amazing Breakfast was delicious and generous Bed nice and comfortable
Excessive dust on surfaces. ( mostly on top of wardrobe). Shower was hit and miss (height adjustment broken, main head trickling out)
Excellent breakfast
Room and bathroom large clean and comfortable with windows that open very welcome in the hot weather.
The breakfas was good t
Little bit tired decor and room wise
Breakfast was excellent, location great and it's always good to have parking, had trouble with the shower but we reported this so hopefully it will be sorted for the next person. Room was lovely, it had an extra fan if needed.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it. The room is generally clean. The water heater for the shower warms up fast. The location is good for hiking in the peak district. Breakfast wasn't the best but it is good value and I enjoyed it. I liked the mirror behind the bed, and there is a full body mirror on the door. Amenities were all provided: towels, pillows, shampoo and soap, hair dryer, coffee and tea, kettle.
There is a TV but the light from the chandelier makes it hard to see what's on the screen. Should just change it to normal ceiling light. There are some lights in the bathroom that don't work. The shower drain is clogged and water drains really slowly. There are some dust in the crevices and the paint on the ceiling and walls were peeling. The bathroom ceiling had some mold.
Brilliant location
Building and rooms needs some TLC
Great location. Good value. Lovely lady serving breakfast one morning, she was sadly missed the next day…
A little shabby, and blimey the pub noise is loud at night (the pub toilets are upstairs and close to the bedrooms - lock your door, we had an occasional lost visitor..) but you expect the noise if you stay in a pub.
The breakfast was very good. The location
The room was dirty. Broken floor tiles. Curtains hanging off the tracks. Dust & cobwebs everywhere. Pubic hairs in the bed. Lumpy flat pillows Very noisy from traffic Windows were filthy & the sills covered in bird faeces. Grubby dirty carpets.
Location was great for visiting the blue john mines. Breakfast was good and staff were very helpful and friendly.
Location , food & the staff were fantastic
Nothing really , mattress & pillows not to our liking but you can’t please everyone
Breakfast was amazing and plenty of choices, would definitely recommend the Derbyshire breakfast it kept us going for the day.
Everything was perfect
Excellent breakfast and very efficient, friendly staff.
Location v good,cleanlines good.
Bed uncomfortable, didn't sleep well. Breakfast not freshly cooked.
Really good location and friendly staff
Facilities could do with an update, mould in bathroom and around windows within the property. Cooked breakfast not the best.
The breakfast
Lack of decent internet connection on top floor
Good location for me and my wife food was excellent and the staff were brilliant would definitely come back
There was no ramp to get my mobility scooter in or wheelchair access staff had to carry it in for me maybe could put one where steps are at front Mr and Mrs Nicholson
Charming old inn with a lot of atmosphere. Very friendly staff and great English breakfast options. You can easily walk to trails, the castle and Peak Cavern.
Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Good location. Linda who served breakfast extremely helpful and pleasant.
Said parking on site didn’t need to book but there were no sieves when we got there. Should state not always available first come first saved basis.
Lovely 4 poster bed
Live music late on a Saturday but fortunately for us, there was no problem as we arrived late from a wedding
We kwamen om half acht aan en konden nog net op tijd even wat eten.
Dit hotel heeft een upgrade nodig, voldoet niet meer aan de eisen van deze tijd.
Breakfast was fine, staff helpful, location great.
The decor looked a bit tired and there were a few things not checked in bedroom eg light bulbs out in bathroom, no air conditioning and one day room not cleaned properly. Bar food was tasty however the presentation of evening meal could be better.
Great location including parking, friendly staff, nice room and great brekky.
All ok
Excellent location. Staff really friendly. Rooms clean and tidy breakfast really good 👍. Great value for money. Definitely stay there again
Location
Some cleanliness issues
Good location. Very friendly and welcoming staff
No shower in room which I felt was poor.
The location was the best, you step out the door and are basically already hiking. We went to the top of Mam Tor from here, and also to Win Hill. The scenery is spectacular and Castelton is a very pretty village with much more amenities than we expected.
Nothing. Everything was good.
The room we stayed in was large, clean and comfortable with a four poster bed and large onsuite. The room had everything we needed for our stay
Early in the evening then motorbikes were noisy going past
La zona molto bella, posteggio vicino, cucina buona (abbiamo cenato). Avevamo la vista sul cimitero, adoro i cimiteri british.
Il letto scomodo
Great location, pub has lots of character. Friendly helpful staff. Brilliant breakfast!!
The 2nd floor room was hot however a fan was provided and this is our only negative.
Nothing really, the pictures on the website do not represent what you actually got
As above,
Location,perfect for us
No proper shower in the room
Breakfast was great and staff friendly
Would've liked hand soap in bathroom
Great location, friendly staff, very good breakfast, parking space provided and great value
The TV wasn’t working in my room and the sash window wouldn’t lock open
Sentral beliggenhet, god frokost
Location, comfort, breakfast
Location, Old pub accomodation, staff.
Nothing.
Perfect location and amazing breakfast. Not a huge range of options for the continental breakfast as compared to others but hot breakfast more than make up for it. However friendly and helpful staff and despite all the negatives I have written, I will happily come back and stay again!
It is definitely an old property and quite close to the road so ongoing noise from traffic is a thing. Some parts are old and maybe a bit dusty like the windowsills, ?towel rack that had broken and now just missing and the cobweb off the chandelier.
Very good value for money and food is lovely...both evening food and breakfast. Perfect location for walks. Staff are friendly.
Rooms could do with updating. We had a towel rail opposite toilet which didn't leave much room to sit!!
Lovely old pub in the middle of Castelton. Perfect location for lots of walks. We were given a spacious and light room at the top floor of the building. The bathroom was newly re-done and super comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at lunch was abundant and very good, including the desserts (delicious). The pub itself has a great vibe and atmosphere.
- With the warm weather we had to keep the windows open and the room, which fronted the main road, could get noisy. The bed for the children was a bit small (a larger sofa-bed would improve the stay for a family of 4). The quality of the breakfast could be improved.
Welcoming
The olde world charm of the building and the furnishings
The steep stairs as I’m partially disabled but I did manage.
Location. Pub grub. Friendly staff. Lovely big room.
Fantastic location for all the local hikes and things to do. The breakfast provided was absolutely brilliant, cooked fresh on demand and the sausages were delicious. A little spooky right next the graveyard but cool to stay in such an old property, the views from our room were just fantastic.
All good stayed here a few times when hiking, room comfy , breakfast very good
N/A
Excellent breakfast ! Nice charming hotel!
Very bad and poor wifi !!
The staff are friendly
The bed was so uncomfortable
Breakfast was very good. The bar had a good atmosphere. Good sized room and comfortable bed. Location is great, both the town of Castleton itself, and close proximity to other places in the Peak District
Parking was OK, the dedicated car park was full so had to use street parking.
Great old inn/pub. Staff were friendly/helpful. Great location.
Bed was a bit uncomfortable
I would come here just for the included full English breakfast! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is fantastic and a big plus as well as being value for money.
Décor in the rooms was very dated and old-fashioned, but in keeping with the whole character of the pub, but not a fan of the dark wood panelling. Storage in the rooms very limited, could not work out how to open the dresser doors and the clothes hanging space was open. Rooms were cold but the weather outside was also unseasonably cold and wet. There was a few maintenance issues with light bulbs not working and the electric shower was a bit weak and on the top floor the hot water for the basin took ages to arrive.
Great Breakfast, good location, friendly staff.
The extra bed was uncomfortable
So, booking made for the room to be twin occupancy, hotel had no mention on booking. But the room had the sofa bed, when mentioned this was actioned immediately. Cannot fault FANTASTIC service.
Nothing PERFECT
Super close to the venue, lively friendly atmosphere
Friendly staff. Excellent location. Excellent food mnu
Great location, comfy room with good shower
A family room for 5
Everything
The staff were lovely.
I was on the top floor. I’m 80 yrs! But I should have said maybe when I booked!
Room lovely, spotless bathroom, comfy bed. Breakfast was fabulous. Great checking in and out times. Fabulous location.
Nothing negative to report
Lovely pub with comfortable accommodation & friendly staff in the heart of Castleton. Particulary enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. We had a standard room at at a reasonable price which had everything we needed for a one night stay. If staying longer probably worth upgrading to one of the front facing rooms (had a peek as we were checking out & they looked lovely).
Lovely location. Welcoming staff.
Decor is dated.
Warm welcome, great breakfast and fantastic location.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Great location. Lovely clean room.
Lovely room with four poster bed , bathroom with twin wash basins and a Spa Bath, Great food, Friendly & helpful staff,
Fantastic location, great breakfast, clean room, great value for money.
Just a bit noisy for us - I could hear people chatting quite loudly until around 11pm however as soon as pub closed for the night it would stop so I would recommend just taking ear buds if you like to go to bed early.
Location is fantastic. Loved the room and very airy despite the hot weather. Breakfast was spot on, thank you
Could do with a dust behind the beds
Everything
Nothing
I love this pub, go every year, right in the centre, cosy great music on sat night, lovely food and comfortable
Nothing
Price, food, excellent
Bed was uncomfortable
Really good value for money in a brilliant Location and Breakfast included staff all very helpful
Room was a Little bit small
Great location , very good breakfast, pub meals very good, staff friendly and helpful.
Cleaning of rooms could have been better, plug missing in bathroom basin , little things but the property is old, so you can’t expect it to be perfect. Very much value for money, and it did not detract from our stay.
