Bar and food both top Staff friendly, professional
Very old hotel Needs updating to all parts of hotel Stairs particularly dirty
I was due to stay here, but during the date that I was due to stay here, the hotel was closed for renovations. So they switched me to their sister hotel, The County Arms, which was more expensive and luxurious at no extra cost. 👍😊
As per above, it was given to me at short notice. And this was the only fault with my stay.
Having stayed in the hotel 10 years ago, we knew the location was exactly right for our visit to Birr. Also the private car park is very welcome.
Dooly’s is in transition. The public areas are really very good and comfortable. However the rooms are in need of some major renovation, which I’m sure will be done by the new owners in due course. Having said that, I am looking forward to returning before too long.
The food is always lovely and the staff are attentive. Cannot fault them.
This is the second time we have stayed and disappointed that the rooms are still not refurbished considering the price. The bathroom door did not shut, the baby cot was broken and held up by the window ledge. No cold tap only hot. The shower pressure was poor. The bathroom was grubby and tired.
Have stayed before and it’s a home from home
It was fine for an overnight stay.
Nothing.
Breakfast was very good.
Carpets in corridors could be upgraded.
A friendly welcome from the recèption
Nothing everything meet my expectation
The staff were friendly and nice
It was very old looking shabby and dirty the carpet on the stairs was absolutely filthy and ripped in places, the skirting and architrave was chipped and dirty all down the stairs it definitely not worth €200 a night. I would not stay there again
It’s great big building Although going through renovations
Nothing that I would complain about
The staff were lovely, pleasant, helpful, breakfast was good and freshly cooked. However a healthy option of freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt, fruit etc would be better. The location was very central.
The hotel room was old fashioned and the bathroom while functional was not of a good standard. The hotel could do with an upgrade, carpets were stained and shabby.
All good, staff were great, location is excellent right in the middle of town, varied menu, food is very good.
Nothing
Location in town
Road noise cars and Lorrie’s passing our window all night, no sleep hardly. Hotel undergoing refurbishment no dining room or bar after an 11 hour drive looking forward to a peaceful night sadly not to be had
Very helpful staff. We had avery nice lunch on arrival at the new Coachhouse bar.
Ciara and Oran great, sorted bikes and bags for us… BUT see below ……
Not pre warned, that breakfast was 10 minute walk or drive away in a different hotel, no food Facilites available, rooms paid for in advanced, (no wonder !)called by hotel to confirm on previous Tuesday, never told about renovations or breakfast situation or that restaurant was closed, !! Hotel like a building site. See pics Told could park car outside for 30 minutes on phone , told locally would get clamped. Really messed up this day for our charity M2M cycle challenge as could not depart from our hotel on time easily due to breakfast faff and moving to different hotel for breakfast. No credit or refund offered, Or even move us to sister county hotel, where actually we had our evening meal so we could suss out for next day breakfast faff
It possessed such a helpful friendly snd warm staff
There is no elevator. However, I believe one is being installed as I write this review.
Well located, super helpful staff and food was good.
It is a little dated and would like to see some aspects be modernized , but this is my third visit this time around we can see there is work ongoing so it going in the right direction.
Friendly staff and good food
Comfy room friendly staff. Excellent food
No draught due to referbishments
Location was exc. Didnt have breakfast.
Very central ,great staff and food , plenty of parking!
Hotel is undergoing renovation bar had no draught beer at all, noise in the morning!
The staff were absolutely wonderful!
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful
Rooms a little dated
ok ....no fruit and yogurt
the bar area was drab. no draught beer
Central and affordable
Rooms weren’t the tidiest. Lots of noise from street
Location & Staff
Small room and uncomfortable bed
Location was ideal Little older hotel but did the job for one night
Na
Good staff
WC in room very hard to flush. No lavatory brush.
Breakfast at 8am was quite late as I needed to get on the road for work.
Central, cosy hotel. Breakfast and dinner of excellent quality. Great portion sizes with quick service. Staff very friendly and attentive also.
Some parts of hotel are a bit dated but it's an older building.
Es war alles bestens.
Lovely staff, excellent food
Noise from traffic during the night
As usual, everything was perfect. It’s my home from home. I go there once a month, to give myself a break, and I couldn’t and wouldn’t go anywhere else

This is a cosy friendly old hotel
Friendly staff, good parking, comfortable bed and clean room and bathroom.
Very dated, badly needs a refurb and a bit of a change to update. Carpet on stairs to landing in bad need of replacement for a start....
Ruhiges Zimmer nach hinten. Gutes Frühstück. Das beste Restaurant im Ort.
Der Ort ist etwas langweilig. Schönes Schloss und netter Park.
In the centre of the town.
The room was dirty; toilet paper was used to block out the wind coming through the window. Hair left in the bathtub. Old water was left in the kettle, and the milk was not fresh.
Staff were excellent and could'nt do enough to help you.
The weather😁
Everything was perfectly perfect. No complaints watsoever. Friendly staff, comfortable room, brilliant shower, good view of the square and excellent breakfast.
Zero
Staff were very friendly...and reception was brillant..got my room early as i had a meeting to go too... Very hot breakfast..great value...

Good location. Welcoming helpful staff. Good food in restaurant / bar.
Accommodation a little run down and dated - need upgrading.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

Its quite cold (old building...understandable), it woukd have been nice if there had been an extra blanket in the wardrobe to use if one wanted. Apart from that its good.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good breakfast and value for money
Very dated decor, needs upgrading
This is an old hotel, in need of renovation. We only stayed one night, so did not use any of the facilities. The breakfast was good, but no fruit , yogurt etc. The staff were very pleasant and efficient.
Confortable bedding, bathtub. Good location and cat park available.
Very small room I had to open my suitcase (that I dragged across the city) on the bed
The location , the staff were excellent and friendly and the breakfast was excellent
The room was a little hot and i would have liked to have been told about a party on Saturday night which was very loud . But to be fair id just come from a funeral so i probably wasn’t in the mood for it .
The staff were lovely and breakfast was lovely. The room layout of the double room was beautiful
Bed was slightly on the harder side but thats just a preference each person is different. Rooms were way too hot
The breakfast was very good with no complaints. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and worm. We had one drink at the bar and the barperson did not know how to pull a pt of Guinness so we went to a bar down town.
It is a old hotel and is now under renovation it appears. The bathroom door did not close and the toilets were old. The shower was a plastic hose off the tabs and so we did not have a shower. We felt our one night cost €198 for a double room which was far too expensive for a three star hotel, especially for early February. The receptionists were very helpful and friendly.
The staff is very welcoming the minute you walk in. Had food there. It was delicious left me feeling full. The room is lovely. Traditional feel
Breakfast very good
Lot of stairs, no lifts
Convenient
Dirty carpet, noise.
Central location.
A chair in the bedroom could be useful.
Very comfortable and homely The staff were so helpful Beautiful hotel Perfect location
