The four poster bed was lovely and very comfortable!
Good , v good staff
Easy access to the fabulous town of Birr .Martin a wonderful host who greeted my grandson and I and made us so welcome
Absolutely nothing
Clean, fantastically presented, comfortable, good value for money
Good breakfast. Lovely bed
Waited 10 minutes + to get in - no answer to door bell or 2 intercoms Very very noisy bar cooler system under stairs under our room number 5 - continuous whining refrigeration noise all night and especially from 7.00 am Equals a poor nights sleep
Great staff, clean room
I stayed during abnormally hot weather. As my room was at the ground floor, the window was only safe to open a tiny bit and then was quite noisy, as it opened onto the street. Because my room was quite far from the main guest house (the far side of the tapas bar) there was no Wi-Fi.
Location Comfortable Good food
Road noise
The furnishings were beautiful
I liked everything
This is a very cosy & beautifully decorated Guest house. The location is perfect for enjoying a walk to the Birr Castle & local shops & pubs.
Excellent decor with vintage style wallpaper and antique furniture! Very old world and charming. The Tapas Restaurant attached to the accommodations must be one of the best in the area! Again very nice decor, friendly staff and lovely food!
My room while very spacious and comfortable was at the front of the house and as such the traffic going by could be heard.
Lovely house in a central location in Birr. Martin was super friendly and provided a lovely breakfast in record time.
I couldn't fault anything
Hospitality was exceptional. A hidden gem, great location & food was excellent.
No faults
Very clean, very welcoming, and helpful. I have stayed here before and didn't have to thinkntwice about booking in again.
Lovely location and friendly staff
Nothing
We had a wonderful stay. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were spotless and full of character, making the experience feel both comfortable and unique. The Tapas Restaurant was a highlight of our visit. We sampled several menu items and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Be sure to save room for dessert. The Rolo Cheesecake and Biscoff Cheesecake were absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend.
We had to park a little ways away but that is understandable given the area.
Excellent location, beautiful buildings, comfortable furnishings, fantastic outdoor space.
The staff were nice.
Beds were uncomfortable
Great breakfast - local fresh produce Tea/coffee in room Easy checkin Friendly staff Lovely town - castle estate
Road is quite busy Water in room would be good
Breakfast was amazing. The hosts were so lovely. Beds so comfy and lovely spacious rooms. The photos don’t do it justice!!!
The owners were very nice and the staff very attentive. Great location and the restaurant on site was great. Breakfast in the morning was certainly the highlight.
The room itself was a disappointment purely because the photo advertised for the room we booked was not what we got. In fact the room was separated from the rest of the guesthouse and not as nice as it should have been for what we paid. The noise from the road at night was also frustrating.
Great location and a lovely property, very pleasant staff
Nice room, lovely dining and bar area.
Very nice and central, close to the town. Was very clean and comfortable
Everything was fine for us
Was not able to operate the sky channels on the TV eventhough followed instructions on information booklet. Was not able to lock the room door from inside - Room 1
Breakfast was lovely in a beautiful dining room. Staff very friendly, Lovely big twin bedroom
Bathroom door did not close properly in the bedroom.
Excellent location , beautiful clean rooms , easily accessible with parking available, lovely freshly cooked breakfast , very friendly, helpful, hospitable hosts
Nothing
Comfortable and staff very nice and friendly
Can be noisy at times but minor versus the old world charm of the building
Clean and friendly
Welcoming host, comfortable and quiet room. Perfect eggs, toast and filter coffee for breakfast.
Nothing.
Nice old-style building close to the centre of Birr. Owners are so friendly and helpful. Room & facilities are nice and comfy! Breakfast was lovely.
I was happy with my stay here! I stayed last year and if I'm back in Birr would stay again! Thanks
The owner was very kind and helpful. We were travelling with three kids so we had everything necessary to feel comfortable ! The breakfast was freshly made for as of very good quality and delicious!
The breakfast was great and the proximity to our event was ideal
The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient; food was great and the room was lovely.
The wifi in the room didn't work.
Friendly host and great staff. Breakfast was the best I've had in a long time and I'm pretty fussy. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to have any other meals on the premises as I had other bookings made prior to arriving in birr. If I'm ever in the area again I would have no apprehensions about staying again. Many thanks to all in Townsend house from Damien and Karen.
Location is at a busy road and windows just don't block out the noise very well.
Martin is running a wonderful guest house with Tapas restaurant attached, I had no reservation made in the restaurant and although fully booked he still was able to fit me in. Martin and all of the Staff in Townsend House are wonderful people, kind and patient. You will feel very well looked after!
nice big room with love for details above a stylish restaurant / friendly host / very good breakfast in the restaurant / short walk to the Arts centre if you happen to visit an event, walking distance also around town / thank you!
I stayed for one night with my two young children. We were put in a room to the front of the building. The windows in the room had gaps when closed which allowed the noise of the cars and lorries driving by to sound like the window was wide open. We were above the restaurant where the music and noise continued past 10pm. Not a great location for a "family room".
Good for 1 night. Bed was lumpy but got a few hours sleep. Thank you.
Great location.. lovely breakfast..
Very homely feel and very welcoming
We have stayed many times before and it is a great place to stay. The room was quiet and had a lot of space. Breakfast each morning was really nice as usual with your order peing cooked especially for you to order.

Breakfast, full irish and fresh from the pan. Bar attached to property but did,nt know it.
parking a little far away
Breakfast was nice, good location
Got a room on the ground floor with windows to the main street and behind the hotel's bar, it was quite noisy. Bed and towels clean but quite a lot of spiderwebs and a pretty big spider in the bathroom ceiling.
Owner was very welcoming & the staff were all lovely. The historic townhouses are truly lovely. The Tapas restaurant was fantastic & the complimentary breakfast was very generous.
Unfortunately, my lovely room faced the very busy street so I was up much of the night hearing the lorries passing.
Great location, very nicely decorated, nice owners. Great breakfast selection.
Nothing
Very friendly staff, lovely room and good breakfast what more do you want.
comfortable room , good breakfast. On site restaurant was very good also
A great place to stay . Owners and staff are very welcoming and it’s good that they have their own restaurant. The food is excellent especially the individually cooked breakfast .
Ok as it is
The owners were wonderful people, and it may have been my favorite town in Ireland.
Nothing
Such a lovely place, and with great hosts. Rooms are full of character, spacious, and certainly quiet at the back of the building. Veggie breakfast was very tasty.
Period features, fitting with the building.
Very comfortable room and good breakfast
Very clean and tidy. Not far from where we were attending a wedding
Nothing
Lovely guesthouse, friendly staff and good breakfast
This is a lovely spot. The hosts were very welcoming, the room was super comfy and clean, and the breakfast was really fresh and delicious.
A nice pleasant hotel with very helpful, genuine and very nice hosts, also had the pleasure of a nicely cooked breakfast would more than happily stay again!wasn't anything not to like worked well for me
There is an excellent "Tapas" Restaurant on the premises.
Room was lovely, so clean. Staff were very nice. If I could add one thing it would be to have some bottles of water in the room.
Everything was perfect.
Beautiful room, great breakfast, friendly staff.
Weather
Food and staff were both excellent. V helpful and friendly.
Our room was at the front of the building overlooking a main road. Traffic noise was dreadful making it difficult to sleep.
Friendly, helpful staff. Service quick. Food and breakfast good. Tapas style food in evening tasty.Pleasant garden area at the rear with covered sitting area
Room at front of house on very noisy main road. Hot day so needed window open (no fan in room) Thin curtains but shutters present . Bathroom smelt mouldy and black mould on grout in places.A lot of plastic flowers!
Fantastic location in a authentic period building.
Martin and Lorraine were both pleasant and kind. It was grand being within walking distance around town! I highly recommend Townsend House!
Only that I did not schedule a satisfactory time for breakfast. The bed was very comfortable and I overslept!
