Das Sleeping Elephant ist ein kleines Paradies voller Ruhe und Entspannung! Die sehr komfortabeln und sehr sauberen Bungalows stehen in einer wunderschönen Gartenanlage, die über einen großen Pool direkt in den Strand und ins Meer übergeht! Das Essen und die Atmosphäre im Restaurant sind toll, das Personal sehr freundlich. Wir haben uns hier rundum wohlgefühlt! Klare Empfehlung!

בחרנו לסיים את הטיול שלנו במקום הנהדר הזה וזו בהחלט היתה בחירה מצויינת. הדירה היתה מודרנית מרווחת ונוחה, הגינון בחוץ היה כל כך יפה והילדים נהנו מהבריכה הגדולה עם הנוף הנהדר לים.סימונה מארחת מצויינת ודואגת שהכל יהיה מתוקתק ועוזרת בכל מה שצריך. הטיסה שלנו היתה מאוחר בלילה והיא נתנה לנו לעשות צ׳ק אין מאוחר כך שמשם ישר נסענו לשדה התעופה, זה עזר לנו להנות גם מהיום האחרון בטיול עד הסוף. תודה סימונה❤️

The setting was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. We loved being surrounded by nature and the whole place felt very special and relaxing. The accommodation was comfortable and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

There was very little we didn’t like. The location is quite remote, so getting around can take a little planning, but this was also part of its charm.

Wir hatten dort einen wirklich wunderschönen Aufenthalt. Das Resort ist einfach top. Die Lage direkt am Strand, die Ruhe, die Atmosphäre, die Mitarbeiter und auch das Essen haben uns total begeistert. Das Essen war wirklich erstklassig. Jedes Gericht war frisch, geschmackvoll und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Wer einen ruhigen und entspannten Urlaub abseits vom Trubel sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Genau das haben wir gesucht und sehr genossen. Ein ganz besonderes Lob geht an Simona und ihr gesamtes Team. So ein unglaublich freundliches, herzliches und hilfsbereites Team haben wir selten erlebt. Man fühlt sich vom ersten Moment an willkommen und wirklich gut aufgehoben. Der Service war für uns einfach erstklassig. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sogar spontan um zwei Nächte verlängert, weil es uns so gut gefallen hat. Ich glaube, das sagt eigentlich schon alles. Vielen Dank an Simona und das gesamte Team für diese wunderschöne Zeit! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder und können das Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

What a beautiful place with an amazing staff. The sleeping elephant is at an really stunning location, from the moment I made my reservation everything was arranged for me. Pick up from the airport, day trips etc. It really made my stay to a full relaxing experience. The houses are beautiful and very clean, there is direct access to the beach and the restaurant serves good food. This is a place to come back to again and again...

La pire expérience d’hospitalité de tous nos voyages. Dès notre arrivée, l’accueil de la direction a été froid et distant, et nous nous sommes sentis de plus en plus mal à l’aise et indésirables au fil du séjour. Malgré la gentillesse du personnel sri-lankais, la restauration chère et décevante ainsi que l’entretien insuffisant ne sont absolument pas à la hauteur des tarifs pratiqués. Le plus révélateur fut notre départ : aucune aide avec les bagages, aucun accompagnement, pas même un au revoir. Nous étions sincèrement soulagés de partir et ne reviendrons jamais.

Nous avons séjourné 1 semaine pour finir notre séjour de 3 semaines au Sri Lanka et franchement c’était top, l’ambiance de l’hôtel est apaisant, il n’y a pas beaucoup de chambres (5) donc pas beaucoup de monde ont est tranquille. La piscine est propre tout est super bien entretenue ! Le personnel est top ! La chambre est spacieuse avec la Clim, de l’eau chaude et un très bon wifi ! La plage est bien mais pour s’y baigner accrochez vous !

Les prix du restaurant et du spa sont beaucoup trop élevé alors que si l’on sort et que l’on fait quelque mètres ont y mange pour beaucoup moins cher et on peut également se faire masser pour moin cher. (2 fois - cher).

Quiet location on a beautiful beach. The grounds and villa were immaculate and the pool and restaurant ideal to relax and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves. We had a wonderful stay at Sleeping Elephant Resort in Tangalle and would highly recommend it. From the moment we arrived, we received the warmest welcome and genuinely caring hospitality throughout our stay. The staff made us feel at home and were always friendly and attentive. The swimming pool was the absolute highlight for our daughters, they loved spending hours there every day. The restaurant was excellent, offering delicious and authentic Sri Lankan dishes as well as a great variety of other options. Every meal was fresh and full of flavor. Breakfast was also outstanding, with a generous selection and high-quality ingredients. The beach is simply beautiful, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing. One of our favorite memories was falling asleep to the soothing sound of the waves every night. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special. We would love to come back!

Das Resort hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Gastgeber und das Personal waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Der Bungalow war riesig und sehr sauber. Ein kleines Highlight war die zusätzliche Outdoordusche. Wir fanden es schade dort nur eine Nacht verbracht zu haben.

Das Meer direkt am Hotel hat einen starken Wellengang.

Проживание в данном месте было просто великолепным. Отель очень уютный, все чисто и красиво. Еда в отеле очееень вкусная!! Место тихое, можно полностью расслабиться и наслаждаться видом. Очень важно отметить , какое место уделено даже самым маленьким деталям, территория очень ухоженная, есть все необходимое, домики новые! Такое отношение со стороны персонала и делает место незабываемым. Очень хочется сказать огромное спасибо Симоне и всему персоналу отеля за уделённое нам время, все было просто супер!!! Симона помогла с организацией всех поездок, посоветовала места, куда можно съездить и классно провести время. Отдохнули в маленьком раю!

Никогда не оставляю отзывы, тут прям очень захотелось оставить, настолько все понравилось и было замечательным. Надеюсь мы сюда ещё вернёмся😃

A truly special place to unwind. The setting is spectacular, overlooking one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline we visited in Sri Lanka. Personalet er meget opmærksomt og hjælpsomt. Hotellet er flot beliggende og man kommer tæt på naturen med aber, vandbøfler mm. Maden er god og til en rimelig pris.

Flere ting trænger til vedligehold - som bruseren ved poolen hvor vandet kommer ud fra siden og ikke brusehovedet, parasollerne er beskidte og mugne og solsengene trænger til maling. På vores værelse lugtede der mærkeligt især på toilettet. Værelser blev kun gjort rent når vi spurgte efter det og bestod kun i at tømme skrald og feje.

Wir hatten einen absolut wundervollen Aufenthalt! Die Besitzer sind unglaublich herzlich und aufmerksam – man fühlt sich vom ersten Moment an willkommen und bestens aufgehoben. Die Lage ist einfach traumhaft: Das Meer liegt direkt vor der Tür und ist wunderschön. Die gesamte Unterkunft ist sehr sauber, liebevoll eingerichtet und die Zimmer sind stilvoll und gemütlich. Auch der Pool ist ein echtes Highlight. Das Essen aus der Küche war super lecker und immer frisch zubereitet. Das gesamte Personal war durchweg freundlich, hilfsbereit und aufmerksam. Ein ganz besonderes Highlight waren für uns auch die drei Hunde – Chilli, Norro und Boshka. Wir werden sie definitiv vermissen! Die Besitzer waren außergewöhnlich hilfsbereit, haben uns tolle Tipps gegeben und sogar ein Tuktuk für uns organisiert. Sie waren jederzeit erreichbar, entspannt, herzlich und immer für ein nettes Gespräch zu haben. Man merkt einfach, dass sie das mit viel Liebe machen und das Herz am richtigen Fleck haben. Ein riesengroßes Dankeschön für alles – wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

Wir waren hier 4 Tage als Familie mit 2 Kindern. Das Hotel ist wunderschön, wir haben den Aufenthalt in vollen Zügen genossen. Es gibt insgesamt 5 Häuser, in denen man wohnen kann, es handelt sich also um ein kleines Boutique-Hotel. Der Pool ist großzügig und es gibt schöne Liegemöglichkeiten. Vom Pool aus hat man einen einzigartigen Blick auf den wunderschönen menschenleeren Sandstrand. Auch an diesem gibt es schattige Liegemöglichkeiten. Die Wellen sind dort ziemlich hoch, so dass nur wirkliche Schwimmer richtig schwimmen können. Die Kinder waren nur ganz vorne etwas im Wasser. Das Restaurant bietet morgens, mittags und abends hervorragendes Essen an, wir haben ausschließenlich dort gegessen und waren jedes Mal sehr zufrieden. Es war immer lecker und wahnsinnig schön angerichtet. In der Nähe des Hotels ist nicht viel zu erleben, es gibt nur vereinzelt Restaurants, diese haben wir aber nicht ausprobiert. Es ist ein wundervoller Ort der Ruhe, in dem wir nach unser 10tägigen Rundreise jede Minute genossen haben. Das Personal ist immer freundlich und hilfsbereit gewesen. Die Zimmer sind groß und sauber. Es war alles wunderbar und das Hotel ist klar zu empfehlen! Man fühlt sich rundum wohl!

This is an incredible property. Firstly the hosts Monika and Simona are friendly, chilled and ready to help whenever you need. All the staff we encountered were fabulous here. Our villa was spotlessly clean and had everything we could ever need - huge bathroom, comfy bed, kettle, storage space, safe and it was beautifully decorated. We even had an outdoor seating space and our own outdoor shower right by the pool. The pool was amazing as was the area around the beach and to eat. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all incredibly presented and tasted amazing! Such good value too. The location is just out of this world - right on the beach which is quiet and at times feels like you have miles of beach which belong just to you. This is the ultimate place if you want to relax, unwind and escape from reality. Also the resort’s dogs are beautiful!

Sehr schönes kleines Resort, direkt am Strand gelegen, an dem kaum Menschen sind. Wir haben hier 5 Tage verbracht und nichts gemacht außer zu entspannen. Sehr nettes Personal und unser Highlight waren die Hunde, die vom Hotel aufgenommen wurden.

Das Hotel ist ziemlich abgelegen. Das Abendessen in der Halbpension ist all a cart und man kann sich ein Gericht + Dessert aussuchen - das Essen war zwar sehr lecker aber die Portionen je nach Speise recht klein.

Ein traumhaft schöner Ort! Wir haben den Aufenthalt im Sleeping Elephant wirklich sehr genossen. Sehr friedvoll, ruhig und entspannend. Monika und ihr Mann haben sich stets um uns gekümmert, haben eine Safari für uns organisiert, Spielsachen für die Kinder herausgesucht und bereitgestellt, uns mit AfterSun Produkten versorgt und und und. Sie waren stets erreichbar und so hilfsbereit. Auch das ganze Personal der Anlage war wirklich immer sehr freundlich und hatte stets ein Lächeln auf dem Gesicht. Wir kommen so gerne wieder hier her und bedanken uns von ganzem Herzen für die wunderschöne Zeit!

Ein wunderschönes Resort im top Zustand mit Zugang zum schönen Strand. Den Bungalows fehlt nichts und der Pool ist gepflegt und groß genug um ein paar Bahnen zu schwimmen. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker. Hier findet man definitiv seine Ruhe abseits des Trubels der Stadt, denn abgesehen von den Wellen ist es hier meist schön ruhig. Absolut empfehlenswert für jeden der Ruhe und Entspannung sucht.

Het zwembad, de ruime kamer en het eten was heerlijk. Ook de service was uitstekend, zoals de was die voor ons gedaan werd. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen door de eigenaren en het personeel. Een van onze beste verblijven in Sri Lanka. Het resort ligt aan een lang, rustig strand.

Das Söeeping Elephant ist eine richtige Perle. In dem kleinen, sehr feinen Resort geht es sehr gemütlich und entspannt zu. Wir waren so begeistert, dass wir spontan eine Nacht verlängert haben. Liebe Menschen und gutes Essen runden das Erlebnis ab.

Pobyt v resortu hodnotím jen samými superlativy! Úžasné odpočinkové místo s jedinečnou atmosférou. Prostorné vily s citlivě řešeným interiérem v krásné zahradě přímo u oceánu s nekonečnou pláží! Koupání v bazénu s výborným drinkem či kávou a skvěle připravená jídla v zahradní restauraci a to vše s výhledem na oceán. A nelze opomenout milý a ochotný personál a skvělé české majitele resortu, kteří splní jakékoli tvoje přání a navíc se díky jejich bezprostřednosti budeš cítit jako doma. Prachtig resort direct aan zee, zelfs mooier dan de foto's. Ik heb even een traan gelaten toen we aankwamen, zó mooi! Heel aardige en behulpzame eigenaren en medewerkers. Ze hadden een babybedje en kinderstoel. Het eten was heerlijk. Het appartement was perfect voor ons gezin met twee kleine kinderen, vanwege de aparte slaapkamers van het leefgedeelte.

Tous les repas étaient de grande qualité avec de très bons produits frais et un grand respect des cuissons ce qui est rare au Sri Lanka. Les petits déjeuners étaient parfaits. Le jardin est magnifique et parfaitement entretenu par Santa. La maison que nous avions réservée était très grande bien meublée et très propre. La piscine très agréable avec une eau à 31° en permanence. Nous avons apprécié le calme loin des villes avec comme seul bruit l'ocean Indien situé devant l'hôtel. Les singes, les écureuils et les oiseaux. Un grand merci à Simona et à toute son équipe pour leur bienveillance et leur écoute.

La climatisation dans la maison était insuffisante il y faisait très chaud malgré la puissance au maximum. une clim serait la bienvenue dans le salon. Le paiement en cash obligatoire à été assez difficile car le retrait de la somme ( plus de 500 euros ) n'est pas aisé vu que les distributeurs de billets sont souvent vides car les locaux ne payent qu'en liquide. Donc il serait judicieux voire indispensable de pouvoir payer par CB.

Rommet/hytta nærmest hovedbassenget var stort og flott! Badet var også stort. Nydelig strand. Fikk også 3 nye firbente venner som holdt vakt utenfor rommet ;). Bra frokost med deilig frukt og god omelett. Topp service! Driver accommodation var tilgjengelig rett ved siden av hotellet (USD 25).

Stranda var nydelig- men det var svært store bølger og for risikabelt å bade (mid-september). Anbefaler å sove med ørepropper da lyden av bølgene var intense til tider. Beliggenheten var ok, men var lite annet tilgjengelig i nærheten (barer/restauranter).

Im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes ein magischer Ort. Eingebettet in einen mit tropischen Planzen gestalteten Areal, stehen die geschmackvoll gestalteten Häuser. Alles ist blitzsauber und phantastisch gestaltet. Der herrliche Pool mit Blick zum Meer bietet einen traumhaften Ausblick. Der Strand ist sauber und obwohl die Brandung stark ist, lässt sich in den Wellen das Meer genießen. Aber Vorsicht! Schwimmen ist nicht wirklich möglich und mit kleinen Kindern sollte man sich das Baden dort gut überlegen. Das Essen schmeckt hervorragend und der gesamte Service ist einfach grandios. Eine absolute Empfehlung für Reisende, die Entspannung in einer Atmosphäre mit Niveau suchen.

Zauberhaftes, intimes Resort direkt an einem paradiesischen, einsamen Traumstrand. Die großen Bungalows sind geschmackvoll und modern eingerichtet. Der Infinity-Pool mit Blick auf das tosende Meer ist wunderbar. Das Restaurant ist zu allen Mahlzeiten ein Muss! Alles war vorzüglich und wurde liebevoll und zuvorkommend serviert. Überhaupt war der Service toll! Last not least kümmern sich die Besitzer herzlich um die Gäste und können einem auch super Tipps geben.

We had a fantastic week at the Sleeping Elephant Resort, a family of 5 in one villa and one bungalow. The accommodation is new, very clean and really spacious. The feel is of a small, high quality resort that’s secluded, with the gardens providing privacy and a beautiful setting. The beach is incredibly picturesque and we pretty much had it to ourselves. We ate at the restaurant for most meals and the food was great. The local curry dishes were the highlight. There are a number of other restaurants nearby along the beach. Above all though what made the stay so special was the service and attentiveness. John and Adela were incredibly helpful and booked us transport, a safari and trips to Ella, the bird sanctuary at Hambantota and to Hiriketiya beach and turtle beach at Dikwella on our way back to Galle. All of the trips were excellent and we had a perfect mix of relaxation and experiences for the kids and adults. Every member of staff was really welcoming and helpful. We’d absolutely recommend the Sleeping Elephant.

Hôtel de luxe intimiste, situé au bord d’une belle plage propre et peu construite, proposant des bungalows très confortables et une piscine impeccable. Une délicieuse parenthèse propice à la détente et une expérience vraiment inoubliable. John et sa compagne prennent soin avec beaucoup de délicatesse et de bienveillance de leurs hôtes.

Beaucoup de chiens errants dans les environs, comme souvent au Sri Lanka. Très bons petits déjeuners mais plats du restaurant à améliorer.

Heerlijk verblijf aan zee waar we volledig tot rust kwamen. Super attente en behulpzame gastheer en -vrouw. Het eten werd vers klaargemaakt waardoor het wel wat langer wachten was.

De golven waren te groot, waardoor het gevaarlijk was om te zwemmen in zee.

Tutto perfetto, in particolare l’host, ha fatto di tutto per permetterci un soggiorno piacevole e senza stress. Ha prenotato per noi transfer e motorini a noleggio e ci ha anche prestato della moneta locale. È presente anche un ristorante interno in cui abbiamo cenato ed era tutto perfetto, in linea con gli standard europei. Colazione buonissima alla carta. Il posto è come si vede in foto, direttamente sulla spiaggia, tanto che nella notte si può sentire il rumore del mare!

This resort is for those who are looking for a remote refuge surrounded by nothing but the ocean and lush vegetation. A set of tastefully decorated bungalows is operated by the friendliest people I have ever met during my travels. This is for those looking for a true human touch experience not those who look for sterile spotless formal service of international hotel chains. But don't get me wrong, the result is clean and offers good quality of service in a relaxed and friendly manner.

We came here to relax — and got much more than we hoped for. Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort is a small boutique hotel with brand new modern bungalows and villas, just 70 meters from the Indian Ocean. The view from the immaculately clean pool is unforgettable – waves crashing, palms swaying, pure nature all around. The hospitality is five-star. Owners Monika, Jarda and Libor treat every guest like family. They’re always around, ready to help or just chat over a fresh coconut. And the food? Local, fresh and truly amazing. Highlights for us: the coconut milk soup, classic rice and curry, and a grilled tuna steak that beats many 5-star restaurants. We loved the peaceful setting, with barely any tourists – just ocean, nature, and serenity. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach stay away from the crowds, this is the place. Book directly through the resort’s website for the best service and value. You’ll be glad you did.

Beautiful, peaceful, beachside resort. If you love casual and relaxed, you will love this gem. Monika is a lovely host and the staff are sweet and helpful. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. I had an excellent massage too. The pool temperature is just right:)

We had an absolutely wonderful stay – it truly is a dream destination. Every detail has been carefully taken care of by the owners, reflecting their dedication. What stands out the most is how they’ve managed to combine a sense of luxury with a laid-back, natural ambiance. It never felt overdone, but perfectly integrated with the surrounding nature, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The staff, both in the restaurant and in maintaining the property, were outstanding – attentive, professional, discrete and always smiling. We really appreciated the exceptional attention to every aspect. A truly unforgettable stay.

Carefully managed piece of heaven on the edge between ocean and jungle with european comfort and fantastic cuisine! Fantastic beach where you can swim. You can see peacocks, monkeys, varans, mongoose, buffalo, fireflies around the resort. Spacious and extra clean rooms. Well maintained pool. Owners are great people and experienced travelers, they know how to make your stay calm and comfortable. Strongly recommended! All our big family hope to come back there next year!

We had the most amazing time at this beautiful resort. We arrived on my birthday and my partner had arranged with Monika for us to have dinner on the beach, which was an incredible start to our holiday. The food was delicious throughout our stay and the restaurant served a good variety of meals. Our villa was spotlessly clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The beach is stunning and is pretty much deserted apart from occasional walkers and the fishermen. We loved the local wildlife and particularly enjoyed seeing monkeys, mongooses, fireflies and a monitor lizard. The staff at Sleeping Elephant are brilliant - so friendly and kind, and owners Monika and Jarda are both lovely and have created a relaxed, tranquil resort with a family feel to it. Monika organised our transfer from the airport and the taxi to our next destination, and we also booked a trip to Udawalawe National Park and Mulkirigala Rock Temple through her, which we’d highly recommend doing as she arranged everything - air conditioned car to and from the temple and park, all entrance fees paid, etc. We cannot recommend Sleeping Elephant highly enough and will definitely be back in the future.

Wonderfully situated property on an incredibly gorgeous beach. Amazing that this high level of accomodation can be offerred in such a remote location. Clean, comfortable with staff eager to please.

We travel with our 2 boys 8 and 9 yo We just loved the place!! The villa had a closed bedroom and a second floor for our kids There is a small kitchen with the basics to prepare snacks. And 2 fridges There is so much space and its really comfy The pool was lovely. And the beach right in front was super quiet. The waves were pretty big but fun to play in The staff was really nice and the food delicious And the owners were really helpfull and really nice

Everything was amazing. We travel a lot and are not easily impressed, but as we left my partner said “that was the best holiday I’ve ever had”. We never go back somewhere more than once, but we’d go back to sleeping elephant again, hands down. The location was a little plot of paradise, all you could hear were the waves and the wildlife. The staff made it for us. Monkia and Doslik the owners did everything to make our stay wonderful, booking trips, organising transport to and from the airport, and were incredibly friendly. Nuwan and the rest of the hospitality staff were just incredible. So friendly, personable and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were like friends by the time we left. The Gardner and housekeeper were also wonderful ensuring the grounds and rooms were kept in perfect condition. The room was large and well furnished with a HUGE bathroom. There was a fridge with drinking water, a kettle and coffee. Pool towels and bath towels provided. WiFi was in every room with its own extender. Could access the WiFi everywhere. Speeds could be a little troublesome at night, but this is normal for Sri Lanka. The pool was lush, we had a room that looked out onto the pool and the beach, it couldn’t have been better placed. The beach was so quiet, the only thing going on was watching the local fishermen bringing in their nets daily, and the monkeys running around the trees. Probably the best hotel I’ve ever been to. Couldn’t recommend it more.

There was nothing we didn’t like. The bed could have been a little softer, but that’s me being extra picky. It’s pretty far from the airport, maybe 3 hours in a taxi, so if the extra travel isn’t your thing this could be an issue. But was well worth it for us to be there.

Everything was amazing. We travel a lot and are not easily impressed, but as we left my partner said "that was the best holiday l've ever had". We never go back somewhere more than once, but we'd go back to sleeping elephant again, hands down. The location was a little plot of paradise, all you could hear were the waves and the wildlife. The staff made it for us. Monkia and Doslik the owners did everything to make our stay wonderful, booking trips, organising transport to and from the airport, and were incredibly friendly. Nuwan and the rest of the hospitality staff were just incredible. So friendly, personable and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were like friends by the time we left. The Gardner and housekeeper were also wonderful ensuring the grounds and rooms were kept in perfect condition. The room was large and well furnished with a HUGE bathroom. There was a fridge with drinking water, a kettle and coffee. Pool towels and bath towels provided. WiFi was in every room with its own extender. Could access the WiFi everywhere. Location worked for us as we only stayed 2 nights and had the beach to ourselves If you want to dine out there is really little choice as not much within walking distance That could be a positive or negative depending on what you want to do Staff were lovely but there were 2 members who hovered for 3 hours by our room to take our bags we felt this was intrusive but they were the exception as restaurant staff and owners all lovely

Room lay out was nice with a rear entrance leading to open shower area, enjoyed the sea food for dinner.

They didn't accept credit or debit card, It was my mistake I didn't check the terms Pay "Just In cash". Generally travelers doesn't carry lot of money for safety reason. I suggest it will be best if they encourage card payments.

An utterly beautiful, serene place to enjoy peace and quiet. The villa was super clean and comfortable, the restaurant provided delicious meals and the staff and hosts couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The location was on a long stretch of idyllic golden sandy beach with no one around. The pool area perfect. If you’re looking for tranquility and quality, look no further.

It started when we arrived and were already awaited and greeted by manager John and his girlfriend Adele with big smiles :) They were so very helpful and nice throughout our stay and made the experience perfect. John always had tips for us about where to go and was always available when we had any questions. We were staying in one of their two villas, and it was so nice to have our own living room with comfy couch and even small kitchen with two fridges for drinks. The villas are the most set back from the front of the property and offer perfect privacy if that's what you want. Everything was super clean and nicely furnished - we felt very comfortable. The terrace with lounge chair and sitting area with coffee table was ideal for having a morning coffee and just enjoy the sounds of nature. The staff! Nuan and Ruzindu (I hope I wrote the names correctly) were the two waiters in the restaurant, and they both did a great job. While I do not remember the chef's name, I need to mention him and the kitchen staff as well, because the food there was some of the best we had during our stay in Sri Lanka. Also, Tila, who takes care of the cleaning and gardens, together with another man, whose name I unfortunately can't remember, where truly warm and kind to us and always passed by our villa for a chat whenever they passed. The staff, together with John and Adele made the stay there to what it was - PERFECT! The property itself is simply beautiful: Laid out very well with lush greenery and nicely done paths throughout, there are 5 rooms in total - 2 villas and 3 bungalows. The hotel was planned and designed very thoughtfully and you feel the emphasis on the detail there. It sits on a beautiful stretch of beach, which is always empty and you can walk for miles in any direction. The sea was not swimmable while we were there due to the strong waves, but it was still beautiful just to look at it and enjoy the views.

Absolutely amazing stay here. Felt like a private hotel, there were a few other families staying but plenty of space by the pool. The beach was really gorgeous and lovely for a quiet walk. The restaurants food was amazing. We had fresh fish one night and then rice and curry the next, it was incredible. The owners were really friendly and very accommodating

The perfect place to relax; we couldn't have been happier with our stay at Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort. We received such a warm, friendly welcome with such an attentive team, and the hosts simply couldn't do enough for you. The accommodation is, by far, the most comfortable property that we've stayed in throughout our 3 month travel (both in Sri Lanka and Thailand). The Deluxe Villa is spacious, modern and certainly catered to not only all of our needs, but also those of our 6 month old baby. The location offers the perfect place to unwind. With immediate, private access to the beach, it is a wonderful spot to enjoy the sunset and extremely peaceful away from the usual touristy bustle; our daughter was even able to nap on the beach. The food was brilliant. We'd certainly recommend the Sri Lankan breakfasts but the rest of the menu is just as varied and definitely tasty. A wonderful, relaxing piece of paradise and a place I'd completely recommend for any length of stay or even for an afternoon by the pool and an evening beach drink.

We don't have a single complaint at all. However, I'd go as far to say that the accommodation pictures on Booking.com don't do justice to the incredible rooms available.

The Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort was absolutely incredible, we even extended our stay because of how beautiful it was, perfect for our family getaway. The area wasn’t too touristy, so you felt like you were in your own paradise oasis. John and Adele were amazing, they basically organised everything for us, which made our trip so relaxing. The food was awesome and the staff treated us like royalty.

Nothing- all perfect!

The resort is stunning and the actual location of the accommodation is beautiful on a very quiet beach. It was situated further away from any towns than we had anticipated so it's tricky to get out and about without needing to book a Tuk Tuk. The villa was stunning - beautifully decorated with all facilities that you need. The pool area is beautiful. The small restaurant was great and the food was delicious, had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The owners were really accommodating and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. If you want a quiet retreat away from everything then it's a fabulous place to stay in beautiful surroundings.

We would have had to prefer it to be closer to other bars, restaurants and facilities, ie cash point, supermarket. A larger range of alcoholic beverages at the bar would have also been preferred.

A beautiful resort... simply heaven on earth :) I still remember the friendly atmosphere, the excellent cuisine and wonderful people who took care of us... ;) I would love to come back someday. Thank you very much Monča and Jarda for everything! :)

A very welcoming reception by the hosts after a rather long trip (26 h). The staff, from the extremely kind Tila and Santa to the waiters and kitchen personnel, gave a golden feel to our stay. WIFI was good, food was very good, especially the tuna and the breakfast, the pool was very clean holding around 30 degrees and the beach was fantastic for early morning walks. The hosts are offering all kinds of excursions but we intended to just chill out by the pool and onto the beach at their private sun chairs. However, they easily booked a car for us to get back to the airport, which was very convenient. The evenings at dusk was a highlight from our balcony for spotting the wildlife. There are only four villas so it never feels cramped, no need for reserving a sunbed early in the morning :) Thanks again for a memorable (short) vacation!

We don't understand how anyone could present anything bad to say of this resort!

Lovely spacious modern rooms, with a great modern bathroom and outside shower. Tea and coffee making facilities and endless water. Beautiful part of the coastline chosen for its remoteness and empty beaches. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Not a criticism, just an observation on our part, we found the kitchen hours a little restricted and no chance of any snacks… but that could be considered a good thing!

We loved it! The slightly remote location may not be to everyone’s liking but we loved the slow pace and tranquility. The pool is lovely so it was fine not to be able to swim in the sea. The breakfast was fabulous as was other meals but food and drinks pricing slightly higher than one might expect for the area. But delicious.

A very beautiful place for a relaxing holiday. It is immediately clear that the owners are Europeans. Everything is very clean, renovated, very clean pool. The hosts are very friendly - they will help and advise you on all questions. In the hotel restaurant, you can finally get non-spicy food. The beach is very wide and clean, but the waves will not allow swimming with children.

The bungalow was clean, comfortable and offered a great view. Pool was most welcome. Staff were great - particularly Thila and restaurant staff who were so friendly and helpful. The owners - Monika and her husband- were lovely and appeared genuine in their efforts to ensure we had the best of stays.

The price of having a deserted beach location is that the hotel is pretty remote. About 20 minutes in tuk-tuk from Tangalle. Food is very pricey. Payment in cash with prices in Euros or dollars, which was confusing.

Everything! Super attentive and caring hosts have created a little paradise gem here. Worthy of five star rating+ the SE family make you feel very special indeed. We look forward to returning next year.

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

Struggle to think what might be better, it really is excellent

The Best place for relax for all family. Good acomodation, cleanliness, towels, comfortable beds. A very nice and tastefully meels, as work of art. A pool inside the garden, masssage for good price and time.

Fantastic new clean resort with friendly owners, pleasant stuff and excellent cuisine. I appreciate excellent massage just after coming and lot of variable activities. The villa was spacious, the ocean nearby. I sure come back soon again. One of my the best stay.

The food at the location is a bit more expensive, but when je have a small walk you have several Sri Lankan restaurants. The WiFi is ok but weak in the villa.

This is such a nice and modern little resort with a beautiful and almost empty beach, you can’t ask for more. Perfect place to wind down and just enjoy the time here. Very nice owners, friendly staff, fantastic kitchen and the villa is just a dream. We’ve had five relaxing days here and would highly recommend the Sleeping Elephant. A lot of effort as gone into making this place so beautiful. 5/5 for this gem!!!
