Lovely cheerful young staff.. Very friendly.. Let us leave our bags as was early checking in.. And also let us leave them there after checking out.. You don't often get that option.. And you get good discount on food
Bed and pillows could do with upgrade
I liked the location but that is all.
The property was very dirty upon entrance, smashed front door that had been attempted to be repaired, but not very well so not secure. The hallway was very dirty, walls and floor included. The room itself no 8 was dirty, stained duvet, stained dirty carpet, dirty walls, smell of mould. The bathroom was very dirty, dirty tiles in the shower, dirty dusty floor and dust all around the beading in the bathroom. It had not been cleaned properly in a very long time. The bed was horrendous as my husband was on a slope and kept sliding to the edge, a pillow was used to prop the edge up. The lighting was very poor and dull, no side bed lamps either.
Lovely setting right on the river
Needs some TLC paint flaking off on the staircase and some deep cleaning in the shower cubicle is needed.
We’ve stayed here before,
The bottle bins were being emptied at very early hours ie: 5:30 they were very loud and talking at the top of their voices. Then the deliveries turned up making just as much noise.
The location was good
A lot of steep stairs leading to the room which was not mentioned on booking.com. I struggled with the stairs due to suffering from arthritis in my knees. The room was dirty and was dusty, the decor and furniture was outdated.
Location was amazing. Right on the river and a short walk into the center of York. Being a customer of the hotel you also got a discount on 3 locations for food and drink which was not only helpful but an amazing part of the experience.
The ensuite was small. Had to shimmy past the toilet to get to the shower. Being a listed building it was clear that they can't do a bunch of work that they'd like to.
Location was perfect for everything we wanted to do, all within a short walk
Nothing
We paid for a deluxe room with water view or partial view the room was one listed as standard room for less money in the app also items in room were broken the sink was loose and and cracked there was mold around shower the bad was lumpy pillows dirty would not reccomend this place at all and wouldnt use again.
The room was well fitted out, clean with a comfortable bed and good separate shower room/toilet, with plenty of towels etc. The walk-in shower facility was excellent - plenty of hot water Tea/coffee and an iron & ironing board provided.
Given that the room was on the first floor over a bar, accessed via a side entrance, there was no other service provided. That was not a problem for me, as all I needed was a bed, and washing & ironing facilities, but it might be a problem for guests expecting a normal hotel provision. My only problem was accessing the TV channels. That required signing into a Samsung account, which I failed to do. Breakfast only available from 10am at additional cost.
The location.
The stairs are horrible specially when carrying heavy bags. It's so loud from people walking in the corridors to the noise of the lorry's emptying bins and then early morning delivery of barrels and staff.
The mattress was awful, we were rolling out of bed. The room was very dirty, skirting boards were thick with just. Cracked bathroom sink with thick silicon everywhere. Thankfully we were only booked on for one night.
Location is good
Bathroom was a great size and large shower. Very clean
We liked everything., although a hairdryer in the room would've been welcomed
Great location. Lovely room. Staff were very nice.
Central location
Poor facilities and no bathroom complementary toiletries
Staff, location and breakfast was excellent. Good view to the river!
Location
No lift stairs isue
Perfect location right on the river, very clean and comfortable, fantastic value for money, 25% off breakfast in the restaurant and it was amazing
All good !
Location was really good, an excellent place to stay for seeing York. The bed was very comfy and the shower was nice. The bathroom was a decent size.
The room/ overall property was a little worn and could have used a proper clean. Some bits like the corners and the windows were dirty when we arrived. There are clubs/bars nearby which are noisy but with the windows closed it wasn't bad and they do close not too late.
Comfortable room with good amenities, shower/bathroom was very spacious. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Best price within walking distance of the city centre.
Noticed some cracked tiles in the bathroom and other blemishes. The duvet seemed to be torn at the bottom.
Location is really good and staff is really friendly
The room needs some serious TLC, quality wise it is just above a hostel since the rooms are private with an en suit. Pillows were very hard as was the bed, and due to the location there was quite a bit of noise outside.
It was conveniently located from St Georges field carpark where I parked and getting into the city centre.
The smell of mould as I entered the room, the absolutely filthy window which looked out onto a brick shaft covered in pigeon poo, as well as very ill looking pigeons. There were (makeup) stains on the towels as well as the duvet cover. The toilet seat was disgusting, despite the bowl having cleaner in it. The shower was partially off the wall. The tea/coffee tray was fine but there were crumbs on the table and rubbish on the floor. Rubbish behind the bin in the bathroom too.
Location
Stairwell dirty , room was ok but expected more.
Location was excellent, room spacious and comfortable, awesome fan…
The noise of delivery to the pub in the morning but thats to be expected for a business.
Lovely spot on the water and lovely breakfast next door very relaxing
Amazing view of the river. Room had everything you needed. Not in great condition for the price to be honest 😕
Room could have been cleaner and in better condition for the price
Great location.
Beds uncomfortably
Location
Dirty, unkept, overpriced, no toilet seat, bed was stained and like lying on a plank of wood with springs. Complaining as for £170 I have been completely robbed.
For a 150 a night i would expect high quality room Mattress you felt every spring when you laid on it bedroom window was filthy shower had black mould round it only good thing was clean bedding
The bed was really comfy & the bedding was clean & crisp.
It's very very tired & a bit battered.
Close to the waterfront and town
Cant beat the location (though it did make the night a little noisy due to local pubs/clubs letting out). Room was spacious and clean. Staff were friendly and courteous
Some deep cleaning/fixing could be good but it in no way affected my sleep nor enjoyment of the room
Everything r good
Smell of damp and can't open wide window because birds try get in.
Location was great
The bathroom was filthy, room not much better
Location was excellent.
The rooms are up a steep flight of stairs, which was fine for me and my wife but some people might struggle. There was no blind in the bathroom which means it gets extremely hot in the day.
Excellent place to stay centre of York
Mattresses very uncomfortable - need chair in room also
Very good location, reasonable price, room was good but a little tired. Bed ok and Room was, clean and tidy as well.
Bit noisy in the morning with bin collections etc but to be expected so no worries.
It was safe and quiet, and reasonably close to city center.
It was a very basic but typical "renovation" of these old stone buildings, basically a relatively attractive veneer over old walls and plumbing. For the cost it was about what I've come to expect.
Location and view were excellent. ALL of the STAFF, without exception, were helpful, kind and chatty. Outside seating was lovely
Bathroom. Shower definitely needs a makeover.
Friendly staff, good service. Clean room in an excellent location.
Location
Pillows we're yellow quilt didn't look clean not cover quilt tv never worked not fixed
Beside river Ouse very central staff were helpful I had a crutch stairs were very steep but sometime best if you make an effort to walk
the views where good.
the toilet seat kept falling off it was broken, staircase to room steep, had to be careful of not to bang you head on a meter box. The wardrobe door knob kept falling off i had to screw it back on, the room looked a bit grubby and very tired (not like the pictures on website)
Absolutely nothing!! The room was nothing like the pictures in the website, dirty, not been cleaned in a long time and overall, the worst accommodation I have ever been in. I do not say this likely as I was in the army for 22 years and I’ve stayed in some rich @@@@holes!!
See above, here’s more!!! Upon arrival, we were shown to a worn, key-coded entrance door that felt insecure, requiring only a firm push to open. We then had to climb a very steep staircase to reach our room. On entering Room 2, it was immediately apparent that the room had not been maintained to an acceptable standard. There was a large gap beneath the door due to the uneven floor, which immediately gave a poor first impression. The cleanliness of the room was particularly concerning. It appeared that dusting had not been carried out for a considerable period. Thick dust covered the television, skirting boards, bedside tables and the top of the wardrobe. The kettle contained old water and was heavily scaled. The cups were chipped and stained with dried tea marks, and the teaspoon was clearly unclean. The curtains were torn and stained, the mattress had little support left due to worn springs, and the overall condition of the room was tired, neglected and far below the standard expected of a deluxe room. Although the bedding appeared clean, we were so uncomfortable with the general cleanliness of the room that neither of us felt able to sleep properly under the covers. The bathroom was equally disappointing. There was no hot water from the shower, the sink was heavily stained, the toilet had clearly had bleach poured into it but had not actually been cleaned, hairs were present across the bathroom floor, several tiles were cracked, and the extractor fan was thick with accumulated dust. I raised these concerns with the female supervisor, who was polite and apologetic. She advised that someone would come and clean the room. Unfortunately, the follow-up fell far short of what was required. The kettle had simply been emptied and there appeared to have been little more than a quick wipe over, leaving the majority of the issues unresolved.
The hotel was in a good location, bathroom was lovely.
Most of the towels had makeup stains on or other stains already on them, bedding was also dirty.
I left my wallet in the room. It contained my passport, debit card, Spanish residency card, insurance card and driving licence. My partner rang the hotel in the evening and thankfully they found it. The lady on the phone very kindly offered to post it to Rotherham, where I was staying, Instead, a friend of mine drove to York and picked it up for me. It was in the safe. A massive thankyou to the lady on the desk. She was so kind and very professional.
The view
Dirty unimaginable shower, rock hard bed, unusable kettle due to such a build up of scale, useless inadequate fans and a front door that looks like it has been kicked in numerous times.
Location excellent Staff friendly helpful
First impression on going up stairs wasn’t good needs decorating
Unweit vom Bahnhof, am Flussufer, grosses Zimmer, gemütlich einferichtet, uber nettem Pub
Zugang über steile Treppe, etwas muffiger, enger Flur
Location convenient
Shabby. Electric sockets didn’t all work. Ugly view out of the window
Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom was large with a large walk in shower,
Was a slight delay booking in but didn't take anything away from the stay
The room was fine, clean and the bed was comfortable.
There was no staff available when we arrived. We had to hunt them down. We were unable, as guests, to use the bar in the evening as it was full of football fans. People walking in of the street got priority over guests! In the morning we wanted to have breakfast in the hotel but again no staff member could be found. We had to go to another place to eat. This place desperately needs a good manager.
Location
Booked 4 rooms all live ovens, they did try with ac but wasn’t very good. The noise outside was unbearable from people chatting till 4 am and then road sweeping didn’t sleep very much at all.
Excellent location and helpful staff.
Tired decor in serious need of tlc.
It was in a convenient locations.
It was very basic. There were stains on the bedding. It was above a very busy bar and restaurant which was very noisy. The curtains didn't block light so it got bright very early. The bathroom was basic, wobbly toilet seat, grubby sink around the plug hole. No air con, and although a fan was provided, it was so loud it drowned out the noise from the restaurant (which i guess was a plus). Overall it was very poor value.
Location location location
Mattress needed turning
Staff where lovely ,helpful and very friendly. Especially the lady in charge on Monday 15th June and young guy Tuesday morning giving us breakfast. The food was amazing we ate dinner and breakfast .
The location, shower & the stuff was good….!
No chairs in the room, just one single stool, the bed sheets has to be checked, bathroom had nowhere to hang towels,
De plek
Het gebruik van plastic glazen
Fantastic base, right in the middle of town. Lovely staff. Fabulous value for money. Discount on food and drink at the Waterfront and their sister bar The Lowther. Looking after our bag before check in to enable us to start sightseeing straight away.
Very steep stairs up to the rooms, bannister was pretty much vertical. Could have done with a bedside table lamp as only other light was the big light! A couple of easy chairs would have been nice too but not essential
Staff were lovely, check in and out was very easy. The room was decent for the price. And I felt safe and comfortable.
Excelente ubicación vista al rio. Bar y restaurante en su vereda. Muy amables los responsables. Bien predispuestos.
The staff and location
Great location
Location is fab for station, river and town centre.
Stayed a number of times and feel it is going down hill. Needs some tlc. Knew about stairs being very steep and narrow but nothing can be done about that just gets more difficult with age.
On the waterfront. Easy to find. Generally very comfortable for what I needed.
The shower needs the plug hole unblocking .Room 6. Nowhere to put toiletries in bathroom - could do with a small table/stand next to the sink maybe? Couldn’t open window (one pain of glass needs replacing) as pidgeons /pigeon poo on ledge … Main access door needs securing and was left wide open by another guest.
Location Room size view of the river everything really
The steep staircase at the top of the property we would have preferred 1 of the 4 lower rooms
Needs a coat of paint. Stains on the carpet off putting
I couldn't get the shower to work unfortunately
The staff where very nice and very helpful, great location
We wasnt happy with the bedding, they could have done with pillow protectors and a mattress protector on so the pillows and quilt cover where stained, not enough plug sockets in the room so maybe could supply an extension lead
Comfy bed for us to get down and rest for the night
I can't think on this one.
Location was good
Very steep steps. Room was very warm needs ac or fan. Bed small for a couple and mattress very stained. Very noisy until late
The location was fantastic and the room was well maintained
The room was warm and the pillows weren’t great, the window view was of a wall
Location the view the price above a pub so ideal & close to town
Bed was confy, lovely Front view to river Ouse. Fair price for one night. Staff kindly saved our bags until check in.
Shower not working and furniture paint was peeling off on both dressing table tops. . Window was partially covered by headboard which obstructed the view to the outside which was a shame considering that was part of the reason I've booked with the property.
Great location
Shower drainage was clogged up at times but managed to clear
We drove 2 hours from newcastle to arrive for 3pm as we had booked bottomless brunch for 5pm nearby. Booked the hotel 4 months in advance however when we arrived we were told they had the booking and payment from me but they didn't have a room allocated and they were sold out! Not what you want to hear when your short for time. We were told to sit down while they tried to sort something out. Luckily they allowed us to stay and we checked in eventually at 15.40 Room was basic, very noisy outside thought things should have been handled better and they really need to make sure this dosnt happen again
🤘🏽
The location was great the place was fine but up a lot of steps to the room 2 flights first was steep next winding stairs could easily fall if not good on the legs .Bathroom was big shower was good .It was better than we expected after reading the reviews.
The bulb in the room didn't give off much light also the lamp was so dull as unable to read, need it brighter then no problem.
We booked here as we were going to see Fawlty towers at the opera house, it was just around the corner which was fab , the room was lovely with a fabulous view down the river , lovely big bathroom, TV had plenty of channels, plenty of tea and coffee and space to hang clothes up , will definitely stay here again
The stairs were steep but we knew that when we booked, but there was good handrails to hold on to, so it wasn't a problem, we just took it steady, it's an old building so it's expected and it certainly didn't put us off and won't stop us visiting again
Room was big. Bed comfortable. View from window over the river. Excellent location. Staff friendly and helpful.
None
Top spot, great food and cheap beer. Winner
My room was clean and tidy and dark so I slept well
Location is great, which was my main criterion this visit.
The view, although the bed was at the window with the headboard against it. The shower was good. The location is good, plenty of buses nearby, plenty of places to eat and about a 15 minute walk to the railway station.
The bed in room 7 had a broken headboard. The stairs were steep and and narrow as described, it doesn't tell you they also turn rather sharply at the top. Rather daunting with a large suitcase. The shower power chord was a bit short. There are no switches inside the bathroom despite a sign saying so. If you want to know where to meet if there was a fire, you would have to peel off the notice telling you the breakfast times and discount. They replenished the milk for tea in the room with enough milk for 4-6 cups of tea, but only left two tea bags for two people to last until the following day. They don't tell you where to hand in the key if you leave early. I left my room key on the bed in room 5 (I had to throw it). I heard the cleaner in the bathroom, but the cleaner couldn't hear me. The bed was two bases not joined together very well, the mattress was a bit hard. It was a lot of money for what we got for it. We couldn't afford the meals. It was £180 for two nights, not including breakfast. A Tesco Meal Deal was enough. It was cheaper in Wetherspoons for two meals and two alcohol drinks and a soft drink than one meal there. The floor was also rather uneven throughout the room. The room we had looked nothing like the photos they have posted on this site. The furniture was rather tatty.
La habitación , el baño y la ubicación
Nada
Location was great , staff really helpful, lovely breakfast
Nothing
Location was excellent, bed was comfy and sheets were nice and clean and fresh.
Broken window, covered with a piece of board. pigeons outside the window all night, making lots of noise, shower hose was filthy black bits everywhere when taken off the stand.
Bed
Rundown ,outside view was disgusting , rooms to small and over priced .
The comfort and the bathroom.
The steep stairs.
There is not breakfast provided only a discount a 25 per cent on their breakfast provided at the pub
Stairs very steep. Bed not soft . Bathroom water not running properly. Very noisy during the night.
It’s was good got the money. Nice large bathroom, good power on shower. Enough space to be comfortable
It’s seems pigeons had nested in the courtyard, roof? Very noisy all night. Mattresses probably could do with an upgrade.
Great location.
I had to sleep in my car due to the smell of sewage in the room.
I only stayed there for 2 hours it was damp and dinjy not comfortable at all no heating the front door had been busted so I did not feel secure at all I am a 63yr old lady traveling alone and this was not the nicest place to stay I approached a male staff who said front door does close occasionally. I had to go to a different hotel which was 100% better and cleaner .
Everything
