Fabulous location

The quaint bedroom, style of the Forest restaurant, and the quirky objets d'arts. Excellent menu and range of drinks, excellent food, and all the staff were attentive and worked very hard to make our stay relaxing.

Das Hotel ist super gelegen in derAltstadt, super Service, sehr freundliches Personal. Das Frühstück ist extrem gut. Ich kann das Hotel empfehlen. Ich würde es immer wieder gerne buchen. Das Minster ist in der Nähe und man kann die Glocken super gut hören.

Ein kleiner Nachteil war die Größe unseres Zimmers. Es war uns vorher bekannt. Auch damit kommt man zurecht.

Perfectly placed hotel in the centre of York, everything on your doorstop , lovely views of York minster , it was my partners birthday and the extra touches in the room made everything more special, thank you 😊

Su calidez y detalles. Cómoda habitación bien decorada, y reciclada. El baño impecable. La ubicación si bien esta en la zona peatonal, es facil de acceder a solo 2 cuadras de la Catedral.

El único detalle de comentaría es algo de ruido debido a su restaurant abajo, pero nada molesto, como también al caminar en sus pisos de madera , pero justamente es lo que le dan la calidez y el estilo.

Très bel hôtel, à la déco soignée et idéalement situé pour visiter la ville. Une très bonne adresse pour York. Petit déjeuner délicieux.

Breakfast was good, had evening meals there too. Great location in the heart of York.

Car park was public off site so had to drop bags as close as we could and then park car. Nothing they can do to alter this or make it better. It's only a nuisance if you are wanting to use your car whilst in York but as it's easy walking to most places of interest it wouldn't stop me staying there again.

Probably the best location in York, charming old building, very good breakfast ordered a la carte in the hotel restaurant. Stuff was nice and welcoming.

Building is really old and despite the teams' best efforts, you cannot expect too much comfort. Floor in our room was uneven, bed was narrow, and the bathroom exceptionally small. The shower was feeling like being in a tube. We had one of the small rooms though, so the larger ones might be ok.

The room was lovely, really cute and matches the theme of York. We had a drink in the restaurant next door and were able to check in early. The room is comfortable and the bed was really comfy, the bath is a nice addition for couples. You can see York minster out of the small window.

The room although lovely is very small, great for a night or two but I think you’d struggle for longer stays, it’s also very stuffy with a small window, in the summer we’ve just had it would of been unbearable. The room had a fan which was needed. Would be ideal for the colder months so you can get snug and warm and use the bath.

Location was excellent and breakfasts were also very good indeed. Lovely staff.

The hotel was a bit shabby and tired in places and the room was very small and the window didn't open fully and it got very hot in there.

The bathroom was not very clean. There was a collection of old dirt/dust/hair on the floor edges and skirting boards. The toilet seat didn’t fit properly.

Brilliant location, only 200 yards from the Minster and other amenities. Lovely old building, staff were very pleasant, lovely cooked breakfast.

Nothing - it was about 30 degrees when we were there, rooms weren’t air conditioned but it’s an old building and a fan was provided.

The staff here make your stay feel so very welcome and warm. That is to say contact both before our stay and during, helpful and happy. We had a lovely cosy room overlooking the busy street, which we loved. As a city break it was great to look out onto the city and people watch, with a cup of tea in hand, and especially being able to open the window wide! We noticed that the hotel itself was quite an attraction, with people stopping to take pictures. We ate in the restaurant for evening meal, it was excellent. Again the service was outstanding. Breakfast was amazing!! Generous and super tasty. Literally made a great start to the day! And the breakfast times also, thank you thank you for us not having to eat it too early! We really appreciate a slow start morning!!

A few hooks it the bathroom to hang towels and clothes would be very helpful.

The room was a tad small. We ate in the restaurant in the evening we both ordered the steak both of us were disappointed in the meal and didn't think it was good value for money Breakfast was also disappointing my toast was cold and tough as if it had been sat on the side for awhile

Location was great - close to all shopping and the minster Great value for money with the breakfast, can get busy but was worth the wait. Lovely restaurant with friendly staff.

Room was a little stuffy in the evening due to weather during the day -fan provided but no where to place or plug in due to only being 4 accessible plugs which were primarily occupied by lamps and kettle. Opening the window invited noise overflow from bars and pedestrians. Would benefit from a small table in the room that could be easily moved around.

Cooking smells from restaurant come into the hotel. Didnt particularly bother us, but might be a problem for some. City center location means you will be disturbed by cleanup / bin lorries in the street outside. Again, didnt bother us, but worth being mindful of.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The room in the roof was wonderfully romantic, with exposed beams on the ceiling and a standing bathtub in the bedroom. Staff were very kind and left an annivsary welcome with chocolates on our bed and carried our luggage up to our room. Wonderful breakfast too!

10 all'accoglienza e alla professionalità di tutto lo staff. Ho soggiornato una sola notte in questa splendida struttura storica, tenuta perfettamente e curata in ogni dettaglio. Eccellente anche il ristorante e la colazione inclusa. Consigliatissimo per una sosta a York anche per la posizione a 1 a piedi da York Minster, la Cattedrale, e 10 minuti a piedi dalla stazione dei treni. Se un giorno tornerò a York saprò dove alloggiare 😉

Fabulous location right in the centre of everything. The room was lovely and had lots of lovely additions /extras such as biscuits, bottled water and fan. All staff was brilliant so polite and pleasent. The decor in the room was lovely and everything was pretty clean. The bath was amazing and the main reason we booked this room.

Could just do with a little dust behind the beam above the bed it had a few cobwebs, but was overall very clean still. There is lots of stair which wasnt an issue for us however could be for some. Could be signposted better for the stairs as we ended up in the restrant the first time by accident!! The breakfast was good but not really enough of it exspecially for my husband! The light on the landing did also shine through the cracks of the door quite brightly during the night.

Always our first choice in York. Central, independent. Well run, always super welcoming and outstanding breakfast.

I liked the cottage style of the room, it was very warm even without the heating despite it being a little cold outside.

The room was on a little bit of a slant but didnt really affect much.

Only downside was not being able to open the window in the heat but understand that might not be an option! The fan on ceiling was a big bonus!

Being told we could finish our nightcap drinks shortly after ordering in our room as the bar was now closed . Felt like we were being sent to bed. We would have had this drink elsewhere had we known this would happen .

Another wonderful stay at the quirky hotel which is in the centre of York, the hotel room was lovely overlooking the busy street below, the breakfast was amazing and the staff very kind in taking our bags up to the room and putting the fan on before our arrival as it was a very hot day, the parking with the discount is an added bonus and the Q-Park is a 5 minute walk from the hotel, we would not stay anywhere else since finding this gem of a hotel

Absolutely great location, right in the middle of everything. Breakfast was delicious and served by friendly, attentive staff. I was in room 15 at the very top of the house, a bit of a climb so wouldn’t suit everyone. I knew before I arrived that there was no shower in the room, just a free-standing copper bath in the main room, which again wouldn’t suit everyone. The only small gripe I have was a cooking smell that permeated my room. All in all a good stay.

Very close to the Minster and easy walking to most places in the city centre.

The bar closed at 10 and we were asked to take our drinks to our rooms 😬😢

It’s an old building (obviously) so accessibility not great. Also even in mid/high 20s centigrade rooms were very hot and little fan on all night didn’t cut it !

Things were just a bit inconsistent e.g we were not offered juice at the breakfast on the second day, nothing was replenished in our room on the second day and no shampoo, I had to ask for it. the only real issue was there was no where to put towels in the bath room, it really needs a towel holder and there is plenty of room for one

Excellent location and easy walking distance to all the sights of interest, restaurants and bars. Breakfast was cooked to order and really good selection. Room was very comfortable and clean.

A couple of hooks in the bathroom too hang towels and a mirror in the bedroom as well as the bathroom . Although the staff did find me a second when I raised it with them.

Lovely little hotel right in the heart of town. Staff were fantastic, Rose in particular was incredibly helpful. Amazing breakfast too!!

Worth bearing in mind, parking is a ten minute walk away, but understandable considering the v central location.

Excellent location right in the centre with a welcoming team and bottles of water on the desk which was much needed and a good thought. The room was excellent with a good shower and the breakfast was well worth it. I would happily stay there again if/when I go back to York

The staff were friendly and attentive. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable about York and are approachable. Don't be afraid to ask.The food was of a high standard. Breakfast was included and probably the best I've ever had. The eggs Benedict should be recommended. The location is one of the best near the Cathedral and the Shambles . The rooms are very clean and bathrooms have everything you'd need . Tea and coffee making facilities are in rooms. Well stocked.

Unfortunately, due to the extreme heat, our room was stiffling. A fan was supplied but as it's a beautiful Georgian building, the sash windows are fixed solid allowing no airflow so it was overbearing when trying to sleep. I should imagine in normal conditions, it would be fine. The wife had one little issue. Mirrors in the room but no sockets near to dry her hair but that's being picky.

Zeer vriendelijk, geweldige locatie in het centrum met korting op nabijgelegen parking. Heel hondvriendelijk met een eigen kussen, voorbakken en een kleine traktatie voor de hond. Ook een pluspunt is dat er waterflesjes, koffie en thee was. Heerlijk ontbijt!

Kamer was vrij klein maar wel gezellig. Ook wat warm op de kamer. Geen lift

No fault of the hotel, but due to really hot weather had to keep window open so sleep was disturbed by late night revellers and early morning activity; delivery vans, bin wagons etc.

5-10 min walk from station, (turn left and walk over the bridge to Minster walk up past Guy Fawkes pub it's on the left, quick check in although I was on the very top floor of the Lodge it was comfortable and clean, the breakfasts were huge and made to order staff were very friendly always smiling Galtres was close to every attraction walking everywhere was easy - I have stayed there before but many years ago

Thick duvet on bed as it was very hot but slept ontop with throw over so easily sorted and no I didn't mention it, it just seemed too trivial - bathroom a bit small but adequate for a solo guest

We stayed there for 1night for my birthday lovely hotel very central bedroom small but clean and comfortable, tea and coffee supplied in rooms ,staff very friendly breakfast was excellent,a nice surprise when I was given a plate of sweets with happy birthday written on plate will definitely be staying there again

Not much not to like.

We stayed at Galtres Lodge Hotel for a couples’ weekend in June and had a wonderful stay. The location is absolutely perfect – right in the heart of York, with everything within easy walking distance. Waking up to the Minster bells in the morning was such a lovely, quintessentially York experience. We stayed in Room 14. It’s quite a small room with a tiny bathroom, but it had everything we needed. The facilities were great, and everything was spotlessly clean. The hotel itself is full of character, with beautiful corridors and staircases that really add to its charm. The staff were exceptional throughout our stay. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and one member of staff even carried our suitcase up three flights of stairs, which was very much appreciated. Breakfast was fantastic and set us up perfectly for a day exploring the city. The only things worth mentioning are that the windows are quite thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, I’d recommend bringing earplugs as you can hear some street noise. Also, the nearest car park is around a 10-minute walk away and cost us £40 from Friday to Sunday, so it’s worth factoring that into your plans. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return. If you’re looking for a charming, characterful hotel in an unbeatable location with excellent staff and a great breakfast, Galtres Lodge is a brilliant choice.
