The staff at check-in were busy. Didn’t get much information from them. They were busy with the restaurant which is also part of the business. The WiFi didn’t work so the HUGEtv in our room was worthless. I wish I had studied the hotel better before booking.

Lovely rooms spacious enough for two suitcases with updated modern bathroom. The location was perfect for us. A walk down to the water down steep stairs but we always chose a walkway with handrails. Situated on square which was delightful with churches around us & the bells ringing out on the hour 💓 The restaurant attached has a fantastic menu with a wide range of food. We loved our 3 day stay & would highly recommend Albergo Del Sol & Varenna 👏🩵

The hotel is located right in the city center, with a beautiful view of the main square. The room was clean and had everything we needed, including a TV and air conditioning. The breakfast was also delicious. The only downside is that there are a lot of people around the hotel because it is also a restaurant. It was sometimes difficult to get to the entrance due to the large number of people dining outside. However, the staff was very helpful and assisted us with our luggage. There is an elevator, which is a big plus. If you are looking for a quieter place, it might be better to consider a hotel on the outskirts of the city. But if you want to stay right in the heart of the city and enjoy the atmosphere, this hotel is a great choice. Thank you so much for your help and for a wonderful stay! ❤️

The location was great, right in the center of Varrenna. Many restaurant options nearby and very close to the water. The food at the hotel restaurant for dinner was excellent, some of the best pizza we’ve had. The chocolate lava cake was heavenly. The waiters were really nice. There was a laundry service called Pensa Barbara about 1/2 block away. They charged only like 6-7 euros per kilo of clothes and took < 24 hours and folded all our clothes (rather than most places that charge a few euros for each individual item). There was a pharmacy a few meters away too. Everyone other than one front desk manager treated us exceptionally well.

The hotel is more like a restaurant that happens to have a few rooms above it. So at first when we arrived we thought we were in the wrong place. Then we realized that the hotel entrance is blocked by outdoor dining tables so we had to weave our way around the tables with our luggage to get there. So it wasn’t very welcoming. Since the primary focus of the employees seemed to be the restaurant, the waiters doubled as the receptionists at the front desk, and as cashiers. As you might imagine this leaves little time to attend to hotel guests issues as they were super busy. The bed in our room (for me and my wife) was the size of a short full bed in the US, in other words with my 6 foot frame my feet comically extended past the edge of the bed. Interestingly the bed in our kids’ room was bigger. When I tried to point this out to our harried front desk attendant/waiter/cashier he didn’t try to apologize instead he rudely said I should’ve seen the measurements on the internet before booking. A simple “I’m sorry” would have gone a long way. My guess is that he was perhaps overworked and focused on the restaurant. The hotel doesn’t really have a lobby. The rooms advertised air conditioning (which they had) but it only lowered the temperature from unbearable to tolerable. The nearby church bells sounded loudly at 7 am every morning exactly 24 times (not 7 times) so an alarm clock is unnecessary. The breakfast was sparse, a few croissants, a small assortment of fruit, some hard boiled eggs, not what we had been accustomed to at other European hotels.

The room was comfortable and clean. Although located in the centre of town, it was not noisy at all. Very friendly staff!

We had a fantastic stay. The lake was only minutes away. The staff were all friendly and helpful. On site food was delicious. It was the only place we stayed that enabled us to relax by watching TV after a busy day. Other hotels stated satellite tv but it was all still Italian which meant we couldn't understand.

Great location and near to everything you need in Varenna. Clean, everything we needed. Great air con (which was needed when we there are it was 36 degrees Celsius!). Breakfast was simple but all we needed.

Great location on a beautiful square in the centre of Varenna. We booked a balcony room and had a lovely balcony across the whole front of the hotel - amazing views. Friendly welcome, we ate dinner one night and it was lovely.

I was very disappointed with this accomodation as I found that this was not a hotel, but a small collection of rooms above a bistro. The rooms were grossly overpriced for the standard of accomodation offered. The basic double room at the rear of the property was disappointing as the timber floor was sticky (due to deterioration of the floor's surface coating), the ceiling consisted of exposed insulation, and the view from the window was an ugly outlook over the grubby glass roof of the downstairs breakfast room. The room itself was clean as was its fresh and modern bathroom. Breakfast was very basic with a small range of breakfast foods - the croissants appeared to be stale as they were neither crisp nor flaky. Staff were the bistro staff and the "reception" desk was simply the desk at which bistro patrons paid for their meal. I had lunch in the bistro and the food was fine, but ordinary. Luckily, I'd only booked a one night stay and I was very glad to hop back onto the local ferry and sail back to Bellagio to stay at luxury Hotel du Lac &Spa overlooking Lake Como where the room tariff was only a few euros more per night than than at the basic and dismal Albergo del Sole in Varenna.

Very basic room at a premium, luxury price point. Property did not appear to be a hotel, but was a small collection of rooms above a bistro. Absolutely no facilities other than the room itself (and the downstairs bistro). Substandard breakfast. Extremely poor value for very high price. More like a hostel than a hotel. Would not recommend to others.

Great location, excellent food, helpful and polite staff.

They have single room available! The view from the bedroom window was nice, and the food in the restaurant is really good, actually beyond my expectation! The price is very reasonable too! It’s nice to have dinner at the hotel after a long day of walking and sweating, it’s convenient and relaxing!

No safe in the room, the building is old so the electricity was gone a couple of times in my room when I was using the hairdryer, but the problem was fixed easily by turning on the switch again in the panel in the room! Overall it’s a pleasant stay!

Excellent location in Varenna. Lovely small hotel with only 8 rooms. Our room (6) was facing the square but was still quiet at night. Big room and recently renovated. Great breakfast and freshly made eggs to order. Popular lunch and dinner restaurant is on the ground floor.

WiFi was adequate but intermittent. We were told that fibre is arriving in October, so no more problems after that.

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The breakfast was delicious with a good variety of options. The staff were extremely kind, friendly, and always willing to help. The location is excellent, situated in a prime area with easy access to nearby attractions and transportation. The room was clean, comfortable, and perfectly suitable for a solo traveler. Overall, it offers great value for money with good view.

The room was very basic - more basic than other 3 star hotels we stayed in during our trip. The member of staff was efficient when we checked in but seemed busy and was not overly friendly.

Small Historic hotel in city center. Charming building and centrally located. Good breakfast with made to order eggs and a good selection of pastries and fruit.

The only thing you should be aware of is that, like all historic walled cities, all the living space is one floor up. So you have to go up and down one level of stairs as you enter or leave the hotel. Overall, a small discomfort given its central location.

Perfectly located with 24hr access and a lift. The room was well equipped with a wonderful hot shower, perfect after a swim in the lake.

Our room had signs of damp in one corner of the room that could do with being sorted out. The restaurant only permitted drinks with food which as a hotel guest was rather frustrating. The cafe next door did very well out of our group of 18 people all staying around the square

A bit noisy at times given location above a restaurant and on the main square, floors had a sticky residue from a product used on them (explained up front with an apologetic note, but still a little unpleasant).

חדר שלי היה בקומה ראשונה. מתחת למדרגות היה דלפק קבלה וכניסה למסעדה של המקום. בערב, צוות מאוד הרעיש, צחקו וצעקו עד שעות המאוחרות. היה בלתי נסבל. אין חניה במלון. חונים בחנין המרכזי של העיר ושם חניה שעתית ומאוד יקר.

Die Lage des Hotels ist super, direkt auf der Piazza von Varenna. Runter zum See sind es lediglich ein paar Gehminuten. Das Personal war sehr lieb und hilfsbereit, morgens gab es ein kleines aber feines Frühstück. Die Minibar wurde immer wieder mit Wasser aufgefüllt.

Es ist hellhörig und Nachttische wären super.

Whilst we had small room which we knew beforehand, it was very clean and comfortable- loved it. So central and best coffee at breakfast and didn’t need to give our order the second day. Breakfast was fresh and all we needed.

An absolutely wonderful hotel, in a perfect location in the piazza in front of the church. Ask for a room facing the piazza. We had our own balcony and loved the view of the mountains. The restaurant was excellent. A nearby laundromat an added bonus. Most importantly, the staff were without exception amazing!

Location was excellent- right in the center square. Staff was extra helpful and was able to help book is a taxi to the train upon departure. Views were beautiful from the room.

Excelente ubicación para recorrer Varenna y el Lago di Como. El alojamiento está en pleno casco histórico, sobre una pizzería en la plaza principal, un punto ideal desde donde comienzan prácticamente todos los recorridos por el pueblo. Se encuentra a unos 800 metros del embarcadero desde donde salen los barcos hacia Bellagio, Menaggio y otros destinos del lago, por lo que resulta muy cómodo para moverse sin necesidad de utilizar el auto. El edificio cuenta con ascensor. Nuestra habitación era algo pequeña, pero estaba bien aprovechada, con una cama cómoda de 1,60 m. Al estar en el último piso, el baño tenía algunas zonas con techo inclinado, algo a tener en cuenta para las personas más altas. Como punto a favor, disponía de una pequeña salida al exterior con dos sillitas, perfecta para tomar un café o relajarse un rato después de recorrer la zona. En general, una muy buena opción para quienes priorizan la ubicación y quieren disfrutar de Varenna caminando.

Como único detalle a tener en cuenta, el acceso al alojamiento se realiza a través del restaurante ubicado en la planta baja. Dependiendo del horario de llegada, puede ser necesario atravesar la zona donde se encuentran los comensales, algo que puede resultar un poco incómodo si se llega con equipaje o en momentos de mucha afluencia de gente.

The location was perfect, room was comfortable and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was amazing and the gentleman in charge of breakfast remembered our drinks and got them for us each day. The onsite restaurant was very good and so nice after a long day. We especially loved the balcony with chairs over the piazza. I think we had the best room overlooking the piazza activity but giving some space from the crowd. There was a laundry facility nearby which was very convenient.

El millor de l'hotel és la seva ubicació, el bell mig de Varenna, i a poca distància caminant de qualsevol dels llocs interessants del poble. Es tracta bàsicament d'un restaurant on han aprofitat unes quantes habitacions de la planta primera per fer-hi un alberg. Les habitacións son humils, però estan molt netes i el llit és molt cómode. També és prou lluminós i les vistes a una de les places principals del poble són magnífiques.

Hagués posat una puntuació de 9 si no fos pel preu. Si aquest s'ajustés a la filosofia del lloc, alberg petit però net i molt ben ubicat seria una molt bona opció per qui volgués un lloc així. Pero vaig pagar preu per nit d'habitació de luxe. I Albergo del Sole està molt lluny de ser això. El personal està més per la pizzeria que pels clients allotjats. El negoci principal sembla clarament el restaurant.

Gulvet var seigt, sluket i dusjen var tett, bråkete med restaurant rett under soverommet. Måtte gå gjennom restauranten for å komme til hotellet. Prisen var ikke i samsvar med forventningene og det vi fikk. Kirkeklokkene rett ved ringte hver halvtime.
