Peace and quiet
The road to get there needs repair
Visited Hogsback for a wedding. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay. Fireplace and electric blankets were welcomed. Arminel is centrally situated and staff are friendly and helpful.
Peaceful

Beautiful cozy cottages with everything you need for self catering. Walking distance from attractions and restaurants. Fireplace in cottage with warm blankets on the beds.
Spacious and comfortable self catering cottage
Our bathroom had a lot of mould, I could not use the shower becasue of this
We recently stayed in one of the self-catering chalets at Arminel Hotel in Hogsback, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The chalet was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. We especially appreciated the heaters and electric blankets, which made our stay warm and cosy during the cold weather. Whenever we had a problem, it was sorted out quickly. A special thank you to Mavis at reception, who was always friendly, helpful, and efficient. We'd also like to thank Natalie at reception. We accidentally left our phone charger behind, and when we phoned to ask if there was any chance someone might be travelling to East London, they immediately offered to bring it with them the following day. That level of customer service was exceptional and very much appreciated. The only concern we had was the security. Access to the property seemed too easy. The pedestrian gate wasn't locked, and anyone could simply press the button to open the vehicle gate and enter the property. During our stay, a roadside vendor we had spoken to earlier was able to walk straight into the property looking for us. While he meant no harm, it highlighted how easily anyone could gain access to the property. We feel guests would be safer if access was better controlled, perhaps by issuing remotes or another secure access system to registered guests. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend Arminel Hotel. The excellent customer service, especially from Mavis and Natalie, made a lasting impression. With improved security, the experience would be even better.
It’s very neat and also child friendly . I like the fun play ground
One of the shower didn’t have cold water and also one of the single bed electric blanket just stopped working on the second day
We really enjoyed our stay. I was surprised that the tennis court were clean, even any leaves were removed.
I was disappointed that the restaurant was not operational anymore. The top bathroom's plug did not work. I would have appreciated dry firewood, but that there was a complementary bag of wood, was nice.
A bit noisy right next to main road and amenities a bit outdated, but staff were very friendly and beds very comfortable.
Advertised wifi but only up in main lodge with a limited code

Lovely Cottages
Very friendly staff at reception. Clean unit. Dstv available in unit - so we could watch the Tennis and Rugby while sitting in front of the fireplace. Quite area - despite there being almost 20 units on the property. Portable outside Braai was in excellent condition and very easy to use. A pity the bar / restaurant is closed, but there are enough other places to visit - mostly within walking distance. Warm blankets and heaters in the rooms - so no need for additional blankets on the beds during the nights.
Stunning setting. Very spacious. Very clean. Well catered to all your needs.
Cottage needs some TLC. Its just time, some very worn elements and time for some items to be replaced/serviced. Not all lights working. Linen has become clumpy and lumpy, for a 4 star rated place, not very 4 star.
Location was excellent, what we expected and more.
Everything was good
The Arminel self catering units are absolutely wonderful! The setting is magical, like something out of a story book! Beautiful trees, well maintained gardens and very comfortable, modern accommodation. The unit has two floors, well kitted kitchen, two full bathrooms, heaters in the bedrooms, wonderful wood burning fireplace in the lounge that heats the whole unit up effortlessly. We visited a few other accommodation offerings in the area and were so pleased that we chose the Arminel - truly head and shoulders above the rest. Close to everything that Hogsback has to offer. The grounds have a tennis court, swimming pool and plenty to explore for our children aged 7 and 10.
Everything was perfect at our accommodation, to no fault of the Arminel - the main road in Hogsback and the other roads to the waterfalls and restaurants are littered with pot holes and made driving a bit of a headache, but most places are in walking distance anyway.
They were very accommodating especially since we visited in winter. They provided free firewood, blits, Lots of additional blankets and a map to all the hikes with the waterfalls and advised us on the ones too extreme for kids. The kids enjoyed the tennis court and playground. Next time we might also come during summer so we can take dip in the pool
Wish our stay was longer. No wifi in the cabins, so the network wasn't the greatest especially at night. But it made us connect more, we barely used our devices.
The unit had everything we needed. I have gone back already. Such a lovely weekend getaway.
The Booking.com app put this venue as Bed & Breakfast. I booked & paid in full. Only then did I discover that it was self-service. Luckily I was able to adjust & make arrangements. I suggest you advertise your services correctly & adjust the fee. Otherwise, all was great

Location
House1 is in a bad condition, the sofas are worn and uncomfortable, the floor cracking,, the bed sheets not even fitting the bed. I went there in winter but I was provided with only one batch of wood without fire starters while I booked two nights. I candle and 1 paraffin lamp for a 3 bedroom house. No cleaning during the stay.
A pleasant, tranquil stay
Very cozy and super spacious. Great location and the best indoor fireplace
Usually doesn’t bother us but there was no WiFi in the cottage
I loved the location ..the cleanliness and staff
Nothing... was picture perfect.
Fire place was very good, but the wood supplied was mouldy and damp.
Beds were not very comfortable. Heater in the one bedroom did not work and we had to take it to reception to arrange a replacement.
Very nice and felt safe
Extra blankets were dirty in the bedroom wer there’s 2 single beds , not 2 warm for winter and fire woods were wet…
Beautiful place with excellent ambiance!

Stunning Surroundings, Peaceful and spacious, well equipped.
The accommodation was modern and very clean. Staff were fantastic and oh so helpful. Was in a accommodation in Hogsback the previous night and was not impressed. Arminel was far better and even cheaper. Wish I knew that before I booked the other accommodation. Will definitely come back.
Liked everything
I liked the cottages. They felt very homey. The beds were comfortable and we had access to extra blankets. I also enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need.
I didn't like where the TV was as it made it difficult for all four of us to watch and the step of the shower made me and my partner trip a few times as it stands out awkwardly.
The spacious cabins in the manicured gardens are lovely with enough privacy. Seeing Cape Parrots from the front door is magical.
The WiFi was not available everywhere.
The beds were too soft. Felt like we were sinking

Electricity power cut for hours. They need to invest in generators
One of the best locations in the village. Beautiful gardens.
The kitchen/restaurant lounge/pub are closed so there was no option to have breakfast or dinner in the dining room or have a drink in the lounge/pub. Wi-Fi was only available at reception.
We enjoyed our stay at the Arminal, house was well kitted with dish washer and all necessities. Pool is easy walking distance from the accomodation.
We were sad to see that the resturant and bar was closed.
We loved everything about the place

Neat and clean
Towels were not replaced
Clean and well-equipped kitchen amenities, clean bedding, comfy bed, and clean bath with hot water.
Oddly run down. In stark contrast to the clean kitchen, bedlinens and bath, the walls (especially base board) and carpet were filthy. Looks like it used to be a nice place, but now there's barely anyone working there. Nice receptionist, but no security (there's a gate, but no attendant - anyone can push the button to let themselves in). The #2 (2 bedroom with loft) house where we stayed was incredibly musty. We had to keep all the windows open to make it bearable, even if it was pouring with rain, or too cold or too hot. The living room pillows and upholstered furniture was super damp to the touch. The downstairs bedroom/bath was so incredibly musty that it seemed unhealthy to use that room. We kept our suitcases closed since there were all kinds of critters in the house, from cockroaches, moths, to snails, ++. Any clean, dry clothing left out got considerably damp and musty overnight. The upstairs bathroom hot water barely dribbled out of the bath faucet. NO WIFI, NO AIRCON, NO FAN. No wonder this place was empty. We only saw one other guest only one of the nights there.
Love this place pity the bar and restaurant have been closed. General feedback cottage needs a little love wear and tear is obvious though not distracting from its allure.
Very little not too like just attention to detail mould in bathroom ceilings and general tlc just to lift the experience again
Location, friendly staff, informative and very helpful.
Location is fabulous and the shampoo and soaps etc good quality
I was disappointed with the condition of the cottage. There was mould in the showers, a missing glass from the bathroom, an unwashed coffee cup in the cupboard, and a warped, unsightly warped bathroom mirror frame. The toaster was cheap and burnt the toast, and the duvet inner was bulky, uncomfortable, and poor quality. The garden path to the kitchen door was untidy, and the lack of burglar bars meant I couldn’t sleep with the windows open. My heart sank the moment I saw the neglected entrance. If this is rated 4 stars, it’s overrated — for the same price, The Edge would have been a far better choice. This was a very special weekend as I was scattering my brother’s ashes, and I chose The Arminel Forest Cottages to treat my daughter because it once set the standard. Sadly, it no longer lives up to its “home-from-home” promise.
LOCATION WAS 100%. THE DISHWASER WAS A PLUSPOINT. CLEAN AND NEAT
THERE IS NO WI-FI. NO DINNER ROOM AT THE HOTEL
Very coazy family style houses and has a very natural feel to it, with the forest air and beautiful greenery. Absolutely love being able to see the stars and the scenery of the area.
Couldn't pick up the Wi-Fi if there is any. My previous stay had firelighters and wood, this time the wood was wet and no fire starter, not really complaining about it because there were heavy rains hours before I arrived, so it makes sense why the wood was wet.
Breakfast really good
No wifi in the rooms had go to lounge area for wifi not good enough for me that no wifi in the rooms
The location
Mold everything inside, very dirty floors and surfaces, things were outdated and the duvet cover wasn’t big enough for the bed.
Beautiful little cottage to stay for a weekend. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The new fireplace is very easy to use and smoke free.
The pillows were not comfortable.
Very well equipted. Staff very friendly and place maintained very well
location, staff
no wifi and restaurant closed at the main hotel
Beautiful place.
Very quiet out of season. They did not tell us beforehand that restaurant and bar was closed. We did not book a self catering chalet but was allocated one.
The guest chalet cottages are spacious, comfortable and well appointed.
The hotel section with hotel rooms seems neglected. For example there was no fire made in the communal area even though was a chilly evening. The restaurant is also closed.
Its clean
The beds make noise
Location, facilities
Would have preferred i had an option for paid hot breakfast in the hotel
Everything was perfect, warm welcome for staff and cleanliness
Nothing at all
The chalet was large and comfortable. Set in the trees. Included a bag of wood for the fire. Detergent and dishwasher tablets were available. Friendly reception lady. Shower and bath available. Very safe. Hogsback is beautiful.
Curtains were not very dark, so in summer light comes in around 5am. Our unit backed onto the main street where people were picnicking and braai-ing with loud music. So beat to get a unit deeper into the resort. The kitchen utensils very basic but worked.
