Such a treat to be in nature and near the edge …
Nothing
The staff were very friendly and perfect location. Food was good.
The room facilities were a bit lacking and there was no room service. No teaspoons and only two cups,no glasses and they didnt come clean the room although we stayed two nights, nowhere to rince the cups.Would also suggest a microwave to warm leftovers etc.
The place was OK for a 2 night sleep over
The fact that neighbors' dogs and huge dogs storm at you when leaving your apartment. This was not acceptable and not a good experience. The big dog was actually very aggressive. The hot water system is not nice and a struggle to shower. Getting in and out of the car to open and close the gate, especially when you are not very mobile.

This was my perfect getaway. Serene, relaxing.
Wifi in the rooms
Position and staff
Breakfast options
The location, peace and quiet.
Cosy cottage. Great setting.
Wifi wasn't working and very limited reception
Fire place with wood in house
No electric blanket
Good location, easy to go for walks. Cottage was spacious and pet friendly.
Cottages are a bit bare and cold, but not unexpected- it was winter and they don’t get sun under the trees.
Beautifull scenery.
The location. The meals at the restaurant were good. Our first impression of the Cabin was that it was very small, but it was amazing how well they had equipped the room for self-service guests, and there was plenty of room for us.
The access road was horrific; luckily, I was in a 4x4, but I would hate to visit in a sedan. It was so bad that we did not venture into Hogsback, and we were fortunate to be there only for one night.
The peace and quietness
Value for money Clean Had all of the conveniences.
Bed was slightly uncomfortable Heater didn't work Shower head is direct, no adjustment
The location is beautiful and great for anyone who enjoys hikes and nature.
The only thing was our electric blanket that only worked on one side. Everything else was perfect.
The service and the place was exceptional clean and comforting
Everything was fine
Beautiful, peaceful place!
The cottage was well equipped. It was very cold, but the cottage has a fireplace in the room which was amazing. They ensured we have enough firewood. Dinner and breakfast were good. Amazing views.
The road leading to the cottage.
Spacious accommodation. Very beautiful mountain view.
No TV. No board games.
The property itself was great, very picturesque and comfortable.
It seems it was a busy weekend and the staff were perhaps overwhelmed. We booked and paid for 2 houses and one room. We got 1 house and 2 rooms. Fee was not changed. Please also note some dead insects (in the bed) of the house. Bathroom light was not working. Supper. We ordered and paid for Ribs and other orders, very decent tip. No ribs, so our alternative was fish. Much cheaper. Again, no offer to refund difference in amount paid. Meals were quite pricey but small. (Tasty at least) This was our family’s last stop on a 2 week road trip and we were a bit disappointed. I think if a large event is planned, do not overbook as expected service was compromised.
We loved the peace and quiet of the cabin, as well as the beautiful garden. A home away from home. Welll equipped and clean.
Improvement on an outside tap, cost hooks /hangers at the doorway, support handles in the bathroom, ramp for wheelchair into the cottage.
Absolutely beautiful!!! From walking into reception and till I left it was perfection
Food takes quite a while to be served and waitrons should say what they have run out of before we look at menu
The views and the simplicity - was exactly what was promised. BUT the gardens were wonderful to explore and the walks close to the property were wonderful.
Nothing.
The view from the edge was one of the most magnificent views we’ve ever seen. We also really loved how natural and exposed it was. The cabins were perfectly located for privacy and quiet while still being in walking distance from everything.
The setting was stunning. The Cabin was isolated and peaceful but still just a short walk to the restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food and service good.
Absolutely nothing
The room was musty, cold, the bed was hard as rocky
Stunning location, beautiful rooms.
Wifi was a bit slow in the room, but good enough. Works great in main building. There seemed to be an issue with breakfast, which apparently is no longer being offered, but I had booked with breakfast included. Upon showing the booking, it was immediately resolved however.
Location of the cottage
Think the chef was on leave
The location has stunning views of the mountain cliffs, and so tranquil and peaceful
Everything
Could have been a little cheaper
Excellent Restaurant
We were handed keys and directed to find our own way for a kilometer away through a maze of potholed roads, open and shut a gate inthhhe road.
The roads throughout Hogsback are appalling. The blurb that we had read about Mountain Edge suggested a lovely view. There was long grass in front of the cabin and the view was 100m away. The cabin was suitable, clean and comfortable. They offered dinner, before we arrived, but we didn't realise that we'd have to drive there and back through the mud and potholes to have it. And it was re-heated ribs. Not great!
It lived up to it's name - the isolation not just of the property but from other guests as well really made it feel like a retreat. It was exceptionally clean and the cabin had every amenity a person could need. I truly have no complaints. It's a good spot for couples seeking quality time or someone needing a mental break from the grind of life.
The Cabin we were in sits on the edge of a cliff, and had incredible views down the valley. The reception very kindly upgraded us to a cabin with better views than the one we had booked, which was extremely generous. All very peaceful
The clouds! With the outdoor sun loungers, it would have been amazing for stargazing and sun tanning, but we had rain and clouds unfortunately! Of course, nothing to do with the property! Also, make sure you keep the windows closed at night, we left a few open and inevitably invited a whole party of different bugs to join us
the quietness and the view very clean space everything was in order friendly staff at the reception with warm welcome
nothing
It was really an unforgettable weekend in Hogsback. The views were absolutely magical, the food was incredible, and every little spot we visited had its own charm. Honestly, such a hidden gem!
The potholes and the road getting there definitely turned out to be a bit of a mission. But once you’re in Hogsback, it’s totally worth it. I would suggest that people go up there and use a "Bakkie or a bigger vehicle."
Comfortable room. Breakfast & dinner at restaurant were good. Although nothing is open/ no one is around after 5pm on a Sunday. Communication with guests was poor.
There was a planned power outage during my stay. Despite the area outage being announced a week in advance by Eskom, the Lodge did not communicate this to guests so that we could be prepared. There also appears to be no provision for outages (e.g. there no solar or generator or alt power supply at the lodge) This is very odd given the years of severe loadshedding SA has experienced!! There was one candle in the room - but I think it would be better to provide guests with LED lights as candles are inefficient & can be a fire hazard. The planned power outage also meant there was no running water in the rooms. Again guests were not notified of this despite the advanced Eskom announcement. When I went to the reception to ask for help re the lack of power & water, the receptionist on duty was very unhelpful. She said she couldn't help me & didn't offer a solution. Nor did she offer to call anyone on my behalf. I was left to sort it out by myself. I eventually tracked down someone to address the water issue, but this took several false starts & attempts to get it running again. And I had to keep calling back to say there was still no water in my room. So my main questions are why were guests not notified in advance about the planned outage? Why are there no provisions in place for an outage - which clearly affects both power & water supply at the Lodge (e.g. solar, LED lights, bucket of water in the room). Why are guests required to sort things out for themselves with no support from reception? It is not like power outages & loadshedding are are new or unexpected events - giving SA's loadshedding history. I also pre-booked dinner on Sunday night & gave my ETA. However, when I arrived I was told everything was closed & there was no one available. Again - it would be good to be organised & tell guests in advance if this is the case so that they can be prepared.
Friendly and efficient
Lieu isolé Chalet style Tolkien Restaurant au top
Great location
Limited kitchen utensils, The wood Provided was too wet to use.
Lovely views! Nice and peaceful
Very warm over summer months. With no fan provided :(
The reservation was for a twin room but we were booked into a 2 room chalet with all the facilities we required and in a quiet area with only the sounds of birds in the morning. The stay was great in all aspects. the bathroom and shower was great.
Nothing.
The view, the cabin we stayed in. The people and staff who were all friendly.
The location is stunning and right next to a walking path. The staff members were all very friendly.
Well laid out prefab unit
Main access high step, uncomfortable
The setting was lovely with lots of attractions nearby. The room was a nice size with well equipped kitchen. The fireplace was an added bonus with a comfortable couch in front of it. We had a lovely outdoor space with a braai and garden area. We also enjoyed having a restaurant on site. The room was very clean
Wifi very poor but I think that's due to the area you in. The bed wasn't the most comfortable.
Very nice accommodation for a reasonable price at a great location with nice views and hiking options! Friendly staff. Spacious room with a nice bathroom.
Not the fault of the accommodation, but be aware that the road everywhere in Hogsback and from the main road to the accommodation is gravel road which is not in the best condition. Especially if you are not used to this and when it rains, you have to take this into account. It is not that long, so all part of the adventure and still doable with normal car (although more challenging in the rain). Wifi in the B&B could be better, but of course this is a mountain retreat, so good moment to disconnect.
The location was excellent. The Chestnut unit was nestled between huge trees and a short walk to the reception and restuarant. The unit was spacious but the bathroom was a little bit of a squeeze, mind you nothing like a 3 star European budget hotel.
Bathroom was a little bit cramped with no where to place or hang clean clothing during a shower. A small towel rail or something similar would have helped - not all clothing fits easily on the two robe/towel hooks.
The quitness, place is very clean
Nothing
The place in the ideal location - quiet and very tranquil and wonderful views over the Edge, away from everyone else. We could really unwind here. The Edge restaurant is a very short walk away - lovely warm fire going and the restaurant was also great - fantastic pizza and beer. The cabin was also very well stocked with everything you could possibly need for self catering purposes. Even a small gas stove for when there is load shedding - which did actually happen during out stay.
We thought the mattress was exceptionally hard. I don't mind a hard bed but this was a bit too much. On our last day we checked and we discovered that the mattress had been placed upside down - we did report this and they were very apologetic.
The setting and the gardens. The dining area is nice and the breakfasts were good. The electric blanket on the bed was very welcome.
The wardrobe in the room was very narrow. Had to hang things at an angle. No mirror in the bedroom close to a convenient plug for a hairdryer. Would have liked bigger towels and a heated rail on which to dry them.
Propre, jardins splendides, personnel adorable, très bons restaurants, bons conseils de marche, bâtiments ravissants. Le coin est un petit paradis.
Isolement sonore des chambres B&B, un tout petit peu cher (resto et chambres).
Very peaceful , food was great and service awesome.
Only problem from our cabin was the view, but perhaps that’s seasonal?
The Cabin was walking distance from the restaurant but still very private, we had our own space and we felt like we were the only guests there. It was so comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. The staff were readily available to help for any questions we had, and so friendly and accommodating.
Nothing
Comfy, clean and very accommodating staff.
Good atmosphere, quiet, away from family, cosy cottage.
Nothing
beautiful cottage in a very pretty setting in a wonderful garden
nothing everything was lovely
We liked the view and the privacy and the cute little historic cottage as a whole. It was a very peaceful slice of Hogsback.
The mattress was not as comfortable as it could have been. Something in there was making me allergic. I can't pin down quite what, but it's possible that the soft furnishings needed a deeper clean?
Loved the mountain views.
Nothing
The views are unmatched 😍 absolutely incredible! Quiet, rustic, quaint little town with friendly people 💓💐
Albeit out of their control, the electricity or lack thereof after the storm on the Friday night was a bit inconvenient but other than that, the stay was wonderful 😀
The cast iron fireplace was brilliant. It worked so well. And the electric blanket on the bed was awesome
There were cobwebs on the ceiling and some of the cutlery was dirty. There was no WIFI
It is the best place to reside in. It's home away from home. Staff is incredibly friendly, and accommodation was superb. Their food is amazing, restaurant veryis cozy and warm. Definitely will go again.
Very pleased. Great value for money. The place exceeded my expectations, the pictures don't do it justice. Has a vintage touch, but with an element of modern. Loved loved the kitchen 😍 it's just great, I can't fault it at all. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I'd definitely recommend it.
Nothing.
Lovely position. We took the cheapest unit and it was a bit too dark
Our cheap unit had a faulty light and was dark as a result
