We loved the set up of the hotel, the staff were super friendly and accommodating and the nature around was beautiful.
The spa was quite pricey.
Great staff and nice hotel overall in a good location.
The bathroom was very small and could have been cleaner.
Sorted out excursions within a good period of time. Massage that was included was really nice
Leeches in badminton court
Breakfast and Dinner were amazing. Cooled to perfection. The location in the middle of nature.
The hotel is truly a hidden gem - we were so lucky to stay there. The atmosphere is wonderful and cozy, with incredibly beautiful nature all around. The calming sounds of nature allow your mind to fully relax. It was exactly what we needed. An essential part of what makes this place even more special is the staff - everyone is warm, kind, open-hearted, and genuinely caring people. The food is absolutely delicious. We will definitely come back here and highly recommend everyone to stay at this hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy, housekeeping is always on time, and there are simply no downsides!
The rooms and beds were comfortable. Nothing flashy or luxurious in design, but clean, well-kept, and perfectly good for relaxing after a day out. The service was the highlight: every member of staff we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful, which made a big difference given how self-contained the stay is.
We stayed at this hotel knowing it was quite remote, but it really became clear just how reliant you are on the property once you arrive - there’s essentially nothing else around. That does shape the whole experience. That said, the location itself is absolutely stunning and a big part of the appeal. The biggest letdown was the food. If you’re coming here expecting great dining, you’ll likely be disappointed. The menu is very westernised, and the food we were initially served was quite bland - more like basic English-style cooking, with little to no spice or depth of flavour. Breakfast in particular was very average, while dinner was slightly better in comparison but still nothing special. When we specifically asked for local dishes and requested proper seasoning, the kitchen delivered something much more enjoyable and authentic. However, even then, the pricing felt hard to justify. It was expensive for what you get, and because of the location, you don’t really have alternatives - you’re effectively dependent on the hotel for all meals. We also booked a tour through the hotel, which we would strongly advise against. It was very disorganised and, at times, felt unsafe. We were given minimal instructions and little in the way of preparation, which made the experience stressful rather than enjoyable. Unfortunately, I was also injured during the tour, and there was no apology or acknowledgement from the staff. It could have been much worse, so I chose not to escalate it at the time, but it did leave a negative impression. Overall, a comfortable stay with excellent service in a beautiful setting, but the remote location, underwhelming food, and poorly managed tour offering are important factors to consider before booking.
Amazing place in the rain forest! It is all as beautiful as advertised. A new building in the nature, all rooms face the forest, sounds of nature all around you. The hotel is small so you get very personal experience. Staff are super helpful! And you can pay for everything with a bank card (although, if needed, ATMs are available a short drive away). Comfy bed, great wifi, tasty and beautifully presented food. Great place to switch off and relax. They also can arrange various activities in the area
The only minor downside - bathroom was surprisingly tiny (at least in room 203)
This was the first place we stayed at after arriving in Sri Lanka. We wanted a place to relax and to go water rafting. The manager Kenny is helpful, efficient and friendly . We felt well looked after by him and his team and it made for a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. We went water rafting which we organised ourselves and we also went on a walk to a waterfall , arranged by Kenny and guided by Danushka who took us in his tuk tuk. It was a nice walk and the waterfall and rock pool which we swam in was clean and quiet. We stayed on a half board basis and the choices and quality of food at breakfast and dinner were excellent. The pool was a delight - clean and pretty. Overall, this was a great stay
Nothing

Unique location
All good
This was a lovely hotel and broke up our journey really well between Columbo and N.Eliya. The staff were friendly, the food excellent and it was fun to do down to the river with the kids. The dining area is stunning all surrounded with glass in the jungle.
Not much to say here, it was a great hotel
Quiet, relaxing atmosphere, beautiful location, amazing food, lovely staff.
-
Excellent food, pristine rainforest location, calm and relaxing atmosphere, very friendly staff, flexible and accommodating service
Amazing lodge in the middle of the rainforest. Not a lot of restaurants around, so we were just going to eat at the hotel, not with a lot of hope or expectation. How wrong we were. Food was first class. Service was first class. The staff (Kenny!) was kind and courteous and arranged a tuk tuk driver (dhanushk!) to show us a local waterfall and go swimming in the pond. So much fun!

Secluded wonderful property Excellent food. Staff was amazing!
Natural rock pool
Everything was perfect. Beautiful quiet location, fantastic food and amazing friendly staff. The room was big and also the spa was great.
Nothing!
Location, friendly staff, super food,... heaven
- extremely friendly manager + staff - never been treated better at any place - very peaceful hotel in the middle of the jungle - food is also very delicious and beautiful
Kenny and his team were incredible hosts and provided us with so much hospitality. The service was impeccable! We really enjoyed the surrounding nature, the hotel had a space for us to practice yoga, and a river nearby with natural pools to swim. The food was delicious.
Nothing :)
The location and the staff were absolutely wonderful - everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Kenny was our hero during our stay, whatever we asked for was arranged quickly and smoothly. The chef was incredible, and the food was simply amazing!
Nothing!!
Location was amazing. Sudarsha and Chamara were very helpful and made sure the stay was comfortable. Loved the private tour to the waterfall. Our guide Dhanushka was very kind and patient during the who trip. Looking foward to visit again.
We loved this hotel, nestled away in the middle of the rainforest with nature walks and a natural pool in the river next to the spotlessly clean hotel pool. The staff were professional and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and always delivered with a smile. They helped arrange our travel and white water rafting/canyoning nearby which was an absolute highlight. The rooms were spotless and so comfortable, with a smart, modern bathroom. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners, created by the Moksha's talented chefs, including fresh local organic fruits and vegetables. Make sure you try the Kitul syrup made from the trees in Kitulgala. And everything else they offer! This hotel is perfection!!
Nothing. It's perfect!
This was the most expensive hotel on our Sri Lanka trip but was worth every penny. Everything about it is unique (and luxurious). Set in a secluded rainforest location, its own private stream (which you can swim in) it is the perfect escape. The hotel arranges excursions and we booked an amazing white water rafting trip. The food was also tip top. As I said, not the cheapest but definitely a recommended indulgence during your Sri Lankan tour.
Nothing to say about hotel but think carefully about getting there and out again - lots of steep windy roads and longer drive to Ella takes longer than you think!
Beautiful surroundings, excellent food and very attentive staff. The hotel organized (included in the price of our booking) a very nice trip around the area with a tuktuk, that brought us in short walk distance to waterfalls and natural ponds(must try when staying in the hotel). Highly recommend. Thank you for the room upgrade!
This is easily one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. The small number of rooms means you receive attentive and thoughtful personalised service, without any compromise on amenities. Those amenities include the unique natural pond and river. Photos don’t really do this place justice: it is surrounded by the most amazing array of natural vegetation, much of which is expertly and creatively used by the accomplished kitchen team. The food here is incredible. Even the coffee is made from beans grown in the grounds. The rooms are excellent with beautiful jungle views. The staff could not do more to make you feel welcome and help with anything you ask. For example, we wondered whether mangosteens are served with breakfast: they said no but they would see what they could do. The next morning, and without mentioning this again, when our fruit was served, we were presented with a full plate of mangosteens freshly picked from the garden. The team deserve great things and I’m sure this will continue to be a very successful hotel.
A lovely hotel. There are not many rooms, and it feels intimate. The location is stunning. The quality of the food is outstanding, every meal was excellent. The staff are outstanding, nothing too much trouble, and all charming and warm.
The hotel is a little remote so it is quite a long drive to get to places. However, it is incredibly tranquil.
Niets
I would really. Thank all of the staff especially the dining staff Chamara ,thathsara,Nimesh they were very freindly.
Amazing hotel to switch off and be at peace
The location is amazing. The people in the hotel was really nice, all the time trying to fulfill all our needs. The food was amazing, typical dishes and not typical ones, everything was delicious. We also do some activities, a walking through the rain forest and it was so fun, our guide Danushka, show us everything! This is one of a kind hotel, if you want some relax time, combine with some adventurous activities this is your hotel.
The lunch was fabulous, the staff really friendly. The pool was great.
The bathroom was small and the shower leaked. The restaurant lacked ambiance. Not a luxury five star hotel for our standards.
Very kind personel, beautiful garden and architekture of the House, good food
Peaceful location, all the staff were really lovely. Hotel arranged a guide to take us to Mannakethi waterfalls which were only 15 minutes away. The waterfalls were really beautiful, we had a swim in the natural pool and were the only people there. The hotel also provided us with transport and safe driver to our next stop Nuwara Eliya.
Nothing to dislike
This is a beautiful property set amongst a stunning rain forest location but still close to the main town. The food was excellent and the rooms comfortable and as described. The staff were efficient. The team were very responsive on WhatsApp and were well prepared for our arrival. The gardens were beautiful .. sadly we didn’t have time to stay longer.
It’s a shame the dining area is closed and a little too cold in air conditioning. I think I prefer nice open air dining spaces as the weather was so lovely. Please invest in some soft pads under the heavy dining chairs so the noise of sliding the chairs over the beautiful wooden floor is reduced.
Great Stay with Lovely Amenities but Pricey Extras We had a very nice stay at this hotel. The room was tidy, the swimming pool was well-maintained, and the natural pool was a unique and refreshing experience. Both breakfast and dinner were quite good, with a decent variety of options to enjoy. The hotel offers a range of activities, which is convenient, but we found them to be quite expensive compared to booking directly with local providers. Similarly, the laundry service was overpriced and charged in dollars, which was unexpected. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with great facilities, but some of the additional services felt overpriced.
Tours were pricy, laundry was very expensive.
food, service, natural pool
This property vastly exceeded our expectations! Like staying in the middle of an extensive and artfully designed tropical botanical garden with a picturesque creek running through it. Amazing that this high level of accommodation can be offered in such a remote location. Beds were of the finest quality and by far the best during our 2 week holiday. Food was worthy of a Michelin star. Staff was plentiful and eager to please. A solid 10 and highly recommended. Do not miss the magical paved jungle walking path all along the creek where you can safely swim in many spots.
Everything perfect
We loved everything about our stay! The staff was super friendly and very caring. The food was incredible and the hotel absolutely beautiful! Very clean, comfy bed, amazing location, nice pool area and a natural pool as well. We would definitely come back any time!
The only thing that we didn‘t like was, that there were not enough sun chairs. Only 8 in total which is not enough for 8 rooms.
The property is in an amazing in a beautiful tranquil location.
Nothing !
Exactly as depicted, a beautiful lodge in the middle of the forest. Excellent food, and very friendly staff. A truly relaxing stay immersed in nature. They help to arrange a good guide for a nature walk. The menu, at first glance, is very heavy on European / Western food (pizza, pasta, tapas), which are fine but not exceptional. Go with the Sri Lankan menu options. You won't be disappointed.
Note that there are stairs, and no lift. Can be an issue for people with mobility issues. They need you to order your meal in advance, and quite insistent on this. I understand why, but they do this even prior to arrival, which is confusing. Would be nice if they offered a tea-time snack as part of their routine service, but if you ask they do provide it.
Room was clean, new, had all facilities. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and well-trained. We stayed in 5 hotels during our trip and moksha was outstanding for good management as well as good facilities.
Water pressure in shower is a bit weak. Minor point !
Lovely remote location. Beautiful setting and stylish building. Extremely comfy beds and friendly staff. Good food.
Slightly slow service at breakfast but that’s a small gripe.
We stayed 3 nights at Moksha, the property itself was great, the bedrooms were very modern, clean, great a/c and amazing views from the balcony. The hotel organized transport and guided walk to one of the waterfalls nearby and a hike in the rain forest, which we recommend. The staff were very friendly and available to assist without being overwhelming. The breakfast was exceptional, we also had all our meals at the hotel and had a different menu every night.
Everything was exceptional. A true 5 star experience, nothing to complain about. We stayed 3 nights at Moksha. We had most of our meals, as well as we did a tour to a waterfall and a hike in the rain forest from the hotel, which can be recommended. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. The dining was exceptional, we had a new food experience every night.
Location and clean environment was excellent
Excellent environment & location
Tucked away in the hillside this contemporary building blends into its surroundings. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff bend over backwards to ensure all your needs are met. The natural rock pool to the side of the pool area is a must !
No vanity kits in the bathroom.
Staying here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You're literally in the heart of the rainforest, but with the comforts of air conditioning and kind, attentive service from the extremely accommodating staff. Lush beauty and wildlife all around. The natural pool is amazing and not to be missed. The hotel offers outdoor activities (rafting, canyoning, guided hikes, etc.). We did rafting and a guided hike - both awesome and quite adventurous! The kitchen staff prepared delicious meals to order, and were flexible with our special requests (getting a packed breakfast for the day trip). Everyone took really good care of us.
Some of the fixtures in the room were a bit run-down, which is understandable considering the climate and rural location. If you're looking for the very most modern luxuries, this is probably not the place for you. However, if you love the outdoors and being immersed in a unique, beautiful rainforest, then I can only recommend it. We had an amazing and unforgettable time here.
Location was superb. Natural beauty, lovely natural pool and stream. Excellent staff. Good service.
Food options not adequate for the price, food quality good but not exceptional. Dessert was below par at Dinner.
We search around the area for 5 star accomodation that was of a modern updated vibe and found Moksha. Communication with the staff from the moment we made the reservation was beyond exceptional and helpful. They are able to arrange many activities around Kitulgala and can even provide a driver upon arrival at the main airport. This tree house villa nestled within the jungle beside the rapids is private and secluded. The outdoors was impressive with the pool and the rapids and yes the rock pools were just lovely thou we didn’t get to explore further as it rained. The rooms are a decent size thou some rooms do not have a decent sized bathroom. We are a family and requested for two connecting rooms. The deluxe double had a larger bathroom which was way better but the second room which a regular deluxe room had a poorly sized bathroom. It was just too claustrophobic. We recommend the deluxe double over the deluxe rooms on account of the tiny bathroom in the latter. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room overlooking the rainforest. Overall a good stay but certain areas of the property is beginning to show some signs of wear and tear and some neglect as there were many scuff marks.
Rooms were surface clean but the property could do better. Attention to merticulous detail is somewhat lacking as under the beds was a carpet of dust and light surface dust on the back of the lampshades. The bathrooms could do with some updating in the future. Overall, a good stay. Just wished the same effort in communication would go into better cleaning and upkeep of the property.
Everything was perfect. We had a lovely surprise for our honeymoon that we where not expecting. It was very peaceful we felt like we are the only ones there.
Location and swimming facilities
The staff is very sweet, but their English is poor. They also forget things like coffee and tea at breakfast.
The food in this hotel was spectacular, the best we had in Sri Lanka. The room is very westernised. The pool, restaurant and terrace areas were beautiful.
A bit difficult to access, the place was very empty. Not very good recommendations on what to do in the area, we were sent to a waterfall impossible and dangerous to arrive in the middle of the rainforest.
Beautiful hotel surrounded by the jungle, nice and clean pool and as a plus a wonderful natural pool in the river. Great food, excellent service with Thathsara and Sandun at the bar and restaurant who gave a five star service, always with kindness and ever friendly, willing to answer all our questions and wishes
Nothing
Thanks to these wonderful people: Chefs Sampath, Manual and Thanuka - the food was tasty the presentation beautiful and the quality exceptional. The farm to plate concept fulfilled. Chamila - what a great trek through the rainforest was exactly the experience I wanted. The rivers and waterfalls were calming, relaxing and thanks for bringing me so close to nature in a safe and secure way. Great stories and jokes made the walk easier too. ALL the waiters made my day every day. Helpful, considerate and kind. Big smiles, courteous. Leant my preferences immediately and never missed a beat. Exactly the type of service one appreciates when on a relax, retreat and refresh type of holiday. Danushka & Lahiru thank you for preparing my room for my arrival and for respecting the DND on my door throughout my stay. Weerasinghe I hope many guests appreciate and understand the amount of time it takes for you to painstakingly lay those very many stones/tiles on the hotel grounds. Loved talking to you about cricket too. Shesha the matriarch! You run a tight ship. Your professionalism, calm demeanour and the way you explain everything to manage guests' expectations is admirable. I'll miss our random laughs and giggles. Stephen the contracted driver for my airport transfers - safe and professional drive. What did I like? everything. This is the perfect place to come when you need to be alone, relax, write a book and appreciate nature. My most active moments were river rafting, riding the cute tuk-tuks and hiking through the rainforest.
I honestly had a really good experience. I got exactly what I expected. If I am pushed, I will say the leeches (tiny ones) which you only encounter when you do the rain forest hike.
Kind staff and one of the best concierge service ever. The staff for walking tour is well experienced and provided good services.
No air conditioner at the restaurant
We spent 3 nights at Moksha and I have to say it truly exceeded all our expectations. The rooms were super comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful. The chef team (Sampath, Thank, Manila and Sumudu) were amazing, we told them one time about a something we ate in the market while in Colombo and they made us that dessert for dinner that same day. That's how far and beyond they went for us and every day since they would make us special treats not even on the menu. We did so many activities as well so it wasn't just that the hotel was wonderful but there was so much to do around the area. We went zip lining, canyoning, white water rafting and waterfall abseiling and it was all arranged by the hotel with a very well trained team. I can't recommend this hotel enough to anyone who's looking to just relax or for adventure or a bit of both. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
That I couldn't say longer
Amazing location en most beautiful garden I have ever seen! Nice hotel 🖤. Food was excellent! Friendly staff! Dilhani & Jan
The hotel facilities
The restaurant is not good enough.
The staff and owners are lovely and the place is very relaxing and comfortable. The property is very accommodating.
Our family stay at Moksha Hotel was absolutely wonderful! Nestled in the heart of the jungle, the hotel offers a truly unique experience with private access to a stream and a natural pool, which were perfect for relaxing and reconnecting with nature. Right from our warm welcome, the staff made us feel at home and were exceptionally attentive to our needs. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, ideal for families, with breathtaking views that enhanced our experience. Dining at the hotel was a treat, with a variety of tasty and kid-friendly meal options that pleased everyone. The location is perfect for families, providing easy access to nearby attractions and activities, yet offering a peaceful retreat in nature’s embrace. The staff's dedication to making our stay memorable was truly commendable. Moksha Hotel is a fantastic choice for families looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway in the lap of nature. We can’t wait to come back!"
Very good boutique hotelvery good boutique hotel with 8 rooms. excellent recreation area, good pool and access to the river. good breakfast.
Everything, the food and staff were definitely the highlight of the stay. Could fault anything about the hotel itself and the rooms were beautiful.
Location is only good if you want to just relax. Quite hard to do anything else as a solo travelly, good for families though with excursions available. Only other problem I had was the shower temperature was a little wonky, it got cold and warm etc. nothing too serious in my opinion I love it here
Staff was super friendly and approachable. I also liked their food which felt a lot cleaner than other foods we had in Sri Lanka. Like less oily etc. also absolutely loved having the option to go into the fresh river pond where you can see clear water and tiny fish. It was really cool and refreshing.
The room was not very clean with spider webs and could use some touch up (like a fresh coat of paint). I get that we were in a jungle ish area but there were really a lot of bugs in the room. For the price point, we would've expected a better maintained place.
