Location is very good and the staff were fantastic
The hotel and rooms are very run down, carpets are dirty walls and curtains are stained. Everything needs updating
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights midweek in Sept 26. We enjoyed the short break very much. We had initially priced up another hotel in Middlesbrough that had similar facilities ( pool, steam room etc )and we had stayed at before but the Middlesbrough hotel was twice the price of this place. Facilities are excellent and all staff friendly. Breakfast was great with lots of options.
Nothing really.
Basic needs an upgrade but comfortable and clean ….
Breakfast ok bedroom as expected - price very good
Place is Looking old and tired although we are happy to stay because of location and price
The inc pool, steam room, jacuzzi, sauna,
the smell in the changing room was awful., lockers need sorting. Breakfast was good, lots to choose, did vegetarian sausages 2 nd morning as we should have mentioned it on arrival. Staff pleasant, helpful, plates cleared quickly. Speed at which food was prepared in the bar ( over 30 mins) we left and got a refund. 2 nd night ordered a 12 inch pizza, got two small ones in 12 inch box, 🤷🏻♀️ although it was tasty. Noise from hallway was awful, could see daylight through the door. Noise from upstairs room was a nuisance, it can be heard through the vent in the bathroom too. Don't like the sliding glass door to go into the bathroom, noone wants to hear your partner doing their business. TV remote wasn't working properly. Small things but it still had an impact on our stay.
Good location, nice breakfast.
Extremely disappointed at the fact of having to pay a daily car parking charge.
Breakfast was excellent in every way. The bed was very comfortable. The room was nicely decorated and furnished.
The lights above the headboard were too close to the pillows. I bumped my head on them a couple of times! The charge for parking has been recently introduced and was not welcomed at £6/night.
The pool and gym were nice extras although air conditioning wasn't working in gym
The staff were nice except for one who wouldn't let us on the bar with our 15 year old son, even though the night before he we were allowed (different staff) Also the toilets run on an old system so do not flush very well.
Plenty of car parking. Access to gym and pool.
The restaurant was noisy and the food was average. Breakfast was ok. TV didn't work so informed reception who told me maintenance would fix it the following day, they didn't, Ended up repairing it myself.
The pub
If you like going back in time to the 1970s it was a fantastic place
Location
Very dated. Very uncomfortable beds and cleanliness not the best. Staff rude on check out
E erything was nice
Heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. We mochten onze fietsen binnen zetten!
We had a very disappointing experience during our stay. When making the booking through Booking.com, we requested a change to a double room and confirmed this change over the phone. We also specifically requested a downstairs room because we were travelling with a senior person. However, when we arrived, the double room was not available, as we were told that the change had not been updated despite it being confirmed with us over the phone. The family room given, the windows were stuck and could not be opened. After raising these issues, the receptionist spoke with her manager and kindly arranged to changed the rooms for us, which was downstairs and more suitable for our needs. Unfortunately, the problems did not end there. The following day, we experienced issues with the door lock, and members of staff had to come to our room three or four times to try to fix it. Overall, the repeated room and maintenance issues caused significant disruption to our stay and affected our plans and journey. Although we appreciated the receptionist’s efforts to help and resolve the situation, the number of problems we experienced made our stay disappointing
Clean room, comfortable bed and nice powerful hot shower. Plenty of parking too.
Nothing
Really good facilities. We took advantage of swimming pool, jacuzzi and gym facilities all included in the price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a good range of choice. Would happily stay here again.
Nothing.
Facilities
Bathroom was a little aged
The facilities were amazing. Breakfast had lots of variety. Was brilliant.
Everything
Nothing
Banging doors to all hours
Affordable
Bed up against wall Paid for parking and still received a fine
Lovely hotel & most of the staff pool & gym are good too.
2 rude members of staff. One when a child was choking & they shouted at her to get out if she was gonna throw up. She was choking,if he cant tell he shouldn't be working at the pool. And a rude older man at reception too. Everyone else was lovely. Dinner overpriced for dry & cold food.
The amenities
No towels given by staffs in the pool area
There was not a thing to like toilet didn't flush had fill the bin with water and tip it down hours keeping didn't came in once over the today's we had to ask for toilet rolls and towels didn't refill the tea and coffee would not go back again
Not a thing as above only 3 plugs pokes in the room 1 had the t.v so for phone chargers you had to un pluge the kettle it was a joke travel lodge is much better
.

Clean and live it
The swimming pools
We just got a £100 parking fine for our stay at this hotel. I would avoid
Country view from room window.
Corridors are very narrow and have door frames throughout them that are even more narrow unable to get a wheelchair or pushchair through, the beds have no support in the mattress and is far to soft and the beds seem to be on a slope going down towards the end in which the pillows are for your head. The family rooms are tiny which leave you trying to move around areas sideways. The TV provided is not much bigger than a laptop screen and keeps on needing to be retuned because of the signal and ariel keeps failing out, I have spent more time trying to fix the TV than actually watching it. The bathroom ficilities are tiny and very restrictive and they is what looks like fag burns in the bath with black indented burns. The shower is old and dirty and doesn't come off from the wall and they was human and animal hairs all over the facilities and we were only given 2 towels between 3 people so I had to ask for more and the tea and coffee wasn't filled up with supplies and they were only 2 cups and no spoons and I've had to get cutlery etc delivered to here myself because my daughter couldn't go and carry all the cutlery and bowls and plates etc from the bar/restaurant on her own and had no help to bring to the room, it wouldn't have been that bad if I wasn't disabled and could help or if we were located a lot closer but we're at the opposite side of the massive building. Also we didn't know before we came that if you want anything from any of the vending machines or coffee machines then it is cash only and correct change only which is very inconvenient and the staff are not able to give you the money in exchange for a card payment if that makes sense.
Location ideal for things planned locally
Not clean at all in the room or spa, could do with a good revamp 100s dead wasps at the end corridor
Amenities were excellent and it was clean and the staff were very friendly
No air conditioning in the gym
Very helpful staff
Nothing
Close to main roads and routes Have full use of spa and pool Staff very good Breakfast good value Bar good selection of beers ect Comfortable and basic rooms
Just on the very of needing a face lift
Awful be careful certainly do not take family's.. Brass house

Pool and spa fabulous
Room in desperate need of an upgrade - very dated bathroom fixtures (yellowing with age) and wooden desks. Having to pay for parking. Police onsite when arrived due to a disturbance. Felt like going back in time with this hotel. Terrible hoarding branding outside.
The room was nice, especially as I was given one with french doors, it was clean and the food was good at dinner and breakfast.
The shower pressure was very underwhelming, the night receptionist seemed like he didn't really want to be there. He checked me in, gave me the card and that was it. Not instructions on where the rooms were, where breakfast was, what times etc... just incredibly unhelpful.
Staff were helpful and brought extra pillows and an iron to the room. It was quite even though there was a wedding going on. And its dog friendly so puppy coukd come along
You have to pay for parking
Bottle of water each in room and voucher for complimentary drink. Use of gym/pool/sauna/steam room included. Excellent breakfast and all staff very helpful and happy. 2 very good nights sleep.
Long walk to toilets and bar/food not available during the day.
The room it's self was very nice and the spa was an added bonus.
The rest of the hotel was dated and the food was not very nice and over 1 hours wait for it due to a wedding.
Bar area
Rooms old and dirty
Nice to leave wedding and get into a comfortable bed
Card to room was a nightmare 3 time had to get it scanned at reception yo get in our room, not what you need at the end of your night
Helemaal niks!
Hotel bardzo czysty, pyszne jedzenie i pomocny personel
Ideal location
Convenient
No bath towels No fan as no air conditioning especially with the current heat wave Felt the building and rooms were tired
Location is good
Noises. Not clean. Dated rooms. Towels not clean. Woke up with lots of bites from the bedding.
Comfortable and value for money
Doesn’t look like the photos at all
Easy going
Proximity
The breakfast and the leisure club facilities. Adequate room and great it's dog friendly. Approx 15 min drive to beach.
Onsite pub sticky floor
Stayed here before and everything is as expected. Not the best; not the worst. A little expensive but good for a one-nighter.
Love that you can use the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for free
The rooms were basic and a bit dated
The staff
Carpets where not clean there was somebody hitting the walls all night I would like refund
Staff
Slamming of doors till 3am and people shouting all night. People walking around in tracksuits with slippers and dressing gown over it 🤦🏼♀️. Door not locking everytime
Loo didn't flush properly
Plenty of parking. Swimming pool Breakfast included
Staff on reception could be friendlier. Shower needs updating
Everywhere was clean and nice. The rooms were good with the added bonus of having unlimited access to swimming pools , sauna and steam room. Was a good stay
Ideal quiet location for visiting family in Middlesbrough
Very dated furnishings..
Great location .
Nothing . The staff were great . Comfy beds
Nothing in particular
Dated,too hot
The facilities were great outside the room and, bed was comfy
The inside room facilities were standard just the basics the room was tired and dated and the furniture was scuffed
I didn't like mouldy curtain in the shower and mouldy walls in the shower
Clean tidy comfy beds, manager and staff were very helpful
They gave our room away , despite me ringing and informing them of late check in . There was no walk in shower even though I booked an accessible room , wheelchair would not go through doorways
Good location and gym
Terrible food in restaurant, room wasn’t cleaned, was there three days, doors banging all day, Very hot in room no air con.
Pool was nice Under new management you ha w to request sheets And towels
Mediocre
The loud music a very large and bright security light shining straight at our window no ventilation in the bathroom or room.
Sufficient and easy parking, professional and polite staff, well laid out and ample breakfast, a comfortable room, and a good bed for restful sleep. Good value for money. Being connected to the sports facility was a bonus. One point I thought was a negative was, had to paid for parking.
No free parking for hotel stayers.
Staff were excellent, looks a bit dated from the outside but fine on the inside.
As you have to pay for parking the car park was a little disappointing.
Breakfast excellent.
Charging resident's for parking their car on hotel premises during their stay. This is looked upon as uneccesary penny pinching. We've been coming regularly over the years. Now, we'll think twice about coming again.
Facilities a big bonus - gym and swimming pool. Staff very helpful. Very hot so they immediately gave us a fan on request.
Quite basic - definitely no frills.
Good location
No disabled access room. Very uncomfortable for mobility impaired person.
Needs some TLC and modernising. Rooms were far too warm with no fans or air conditioning.
Run down and poor quality. No air conditioning in the rooms.
Local to the care home. Pricing favourable. Good value for our needs.
Dated room appearance.
breakfast could have been better.
Loud music beyond midnight.
Nothing,
Very dirty, outdated, bed bugs
Easy to find with a great location. Staff very helpful and professional. Evening meal delicious and very filling. Definitely will stay again. Thank you.
All good.
THE SPA FACILITIES WERE GOOD AND THE FOOD WAS DECENT
AIR CON IN ROOM WOULD BE NICE
Was Good swimming & spa was good breakfast what not to like, Bed comfy but don’t walk on carpet bare feet’s it dirty need wash, Parking Avoid Disability Avoid
Glad I only stayed for 1 night!, not a few, I booked in advance I spoken to the hotel by mail, about a disabled old man need ground floor no stairs etc, They promised me a room ground close to the main door easy access to the car, Which we arrived all room is all out taken not available! The staff apologized and given us a room with steps! And other side of the building!, They said I can come in the back door with the wheelchair, and drive back round to the front to park up, and walked 1mile to my room, leaving a disabled man age 75 alone for 15mins!, Same again to the breakfast was good but getting to the bar the doors very strong to pull and to hold, if you’re on your own The parking I have PAID £3 in a disabled space!, For overnight stay! 1 week after this holiday I have a £100 parking fine by Parkmaven company! I appeal which got rejected now I’m £100 out of pocket for no reason Be careful Just a very bumpy ride this place Avoid getting STRESSED and for all the disability people and Elderly’s & the parking situation, Pay extra for no reason for the room
Exceptionally clean spacious rooms and restaurants, quiet location, friendly helpful staff, nice clean sauna, steam room, etc. Brilliant traditional breakfast.
Some furniture is a bit tired
paiement du parking
I liked the size of the room and the breakfast had everything you needed and the bed was comfortable. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The use of the gym and the pool was great too.
I didn't like the shower head it was the old style and I couldn't just have a shower without washing my hair. The rooms were outdated, the furniture and the carpets and deco need upgrading. I didn't think it was fair for a customer in the hotel to pay for parking as this is a new introduction. I stayed for thirteen nights so it would have been an extra cost if I had had a car.
Access to facilities with ease Helpful staff Nice area
Hot rooms
Good comfortable hotel, just what we needed. Rooms very clean.
My truck broke down on the A66 and I was towed to Middlesbrough. I called the hotel to ask if I could put my fridge food in the kitchen and Danny said yes, so saving me 4 days of food going to waste. Had a great night watching football and had a nice meal and good night sleep. So thank you.

Nothing
Thd room smelt Thd decor was mend and make do No privacy in the room as no nets
Room was accommodating (when accessible) breakfast was full filling. Bed was questionable.
The room was inadequate due to the access card malfunctioning and having to have it reset at reception desk several times. (Annoyed). Breakfast was served in the events room totally unsuitable ie small tables cold area. Beds are tired and well over their best (noisy springs)ie
Good location
Room cleaned and towels changed once on the 3rd day of the stay, bed very uncomfortable
Pub on site, small park for kids, lots of parking (not free), swimming pool you can use in your stay. Fair price.
Our room was by reception and kids running up and down constantly and into very late night. Rowdy adults talking at top of their voices late at night and early in the morning. Doors seem to be really thin and dont block the noise at all. People also walk past the window in the room constantly so we felt we had to keep the curtains shut just for privacy or they can see you clearly in your room. Paying for parking when it's the hotels own carpark is mad, they should include this in the room rate even if it raises the price slightly. Very basic and bathroom was in a bad state, needs a refurb. There's basic and theres unloved, this hotel was poorly cared for. Pool size great but the room is hot with no ventilation, and the steam room smelt like mold. Could be a great hotel but some major points spoil it.
Staff
Room
Not a lot
I have to say that the staff were the best part about the Sporting Lodge. The older receptionist with short her and glasses was very nice. I particularly want to mention Lisa in the restaurant. If it wasn't for her attention and customer services with our group, my review would have been much worse. She is a credit to Sporting Lodge and a credit to the restaurant. Thank you for everything Lisa. The children loved having access to the pool.
The hotel is a bit tired and needs a bit of an update. It has a lot of potential.
Sport Pub next to hotel was brilliant. The ladie Lisa was very welcoming and make my stay really nice 👍
Location is ok
This place could be a lovely hotel. Very run down. Along with staff interest. Key cards don't always work. And given a room a long way from reception. Have to walk all the way back with cases. No towels in room. So another long walk back. No apologies just a tut. Not so cheap definitely not cheerful. Poor.
I thought the bedrooms looked tired and need an upgrade.
It was very easy to find, clean and plenty of space in the room. We were able to check in late at night too which was nice after a very long drive.
It was extremely hot. The windows didnt open very easily.
Pool, sauna, gym
Rooms grubby and generally in need of refurbishment. Terrible windows, insecure. Surebi heard mice too in thw weeks hours..
Staff are very pleasant. Location relatively close to were i need to be for work each day
Decor needs updating Bar menu hasnt changed in several months i have been staying. Would be nice to see a wee change
Very Run Down
You have to Pay for parking
Helpful staff, large room and use of the swimming pool
Being an older building some of the modern things were missing like aircon and lift BUT it didn’t change anything our stay. We had a fab time here!
