I was drawn in by the pictures they posted online, which portrayed the property as vibrant, welcoming and full of character. The reality, however, is completely different. It's a dull, cramped hostel with such poor facilities that it could give even a government shelter home a run for its money.

I liked absolutely nothing about this property. Let's start with the receptionist, who introduced himself as Rahul. My experience with him set the tone for the rest of my stay. When I asked about food, he simply informed me that it was chargeable which, of course, is obvious. What he failed to mention initially was that the café is located in a different building (Block B), requiring an additional 100-metre walk over steep, hilly terrain. To make matters worse, Block A itself is about 200 metres down from Mall Road, making every trip quite exhausting. Rahul also made it clear that no food would be served in Block A; guests have to walk to Block B every single time they want something to eat or drink. The basic amenities were equally disappointing. When I asked for drinking water, I was told that while water coolers are available, I would have to purchase a bottle or even a plastic glass to drink from. Towels are available only on rent, and the list of chargeable items seems endless. Essentially, the amount you pay covers nothing more than a bed in a small, cramped, poorly ventilated and unpleasant smelling room. Ironically, I was also told very categorically that alcohol consumption was strictly prohibited on the premises. Yet, I found two empty small whisky bottles lying in the room, which hardly inspired confidence in the housekeeping standards. The Wi-Fi was patchy throughout my stay. Even the balcony furniture reflected the property's cost-cutting approach. The stools were so tiny that they were barely usable for an adult. When I pointed this out, Rahul casually remarked that they don't spend extra money because "that's their business model," so guests simply have to make do with whatever is provided. Overall, the property feels more like a budget shelter than a hostel that justifies the tariff it charges. The photographs online create the impression of a vibrant, comfortable place, but the reality is completely different.

Water coming out in a darkened colour, someone took a dump in the showers and it wasn’t cleaned for ages until multiple people had moaned, it’s so dusty you can barely breathe, electricity keeps turning on & off, now I’m itching like hell with a rash so probably bed bugs, on top of all this the staff are actually so rude. AVOID

Hard to find once sun goes down. Not any real social elements to hostle. Check in is long as had to be done on book and then online.

The service

Nice location, although a bit tricky to find in the evening when dark. Beds were comfortable, toilets clean and shower hot. Not a very social Hostle but nice and peaceful!

Check in was a bit long as must be done online and then in paper. Staff not overly friendly, don’t offer any suggestions for things to do, places to eats etc

I stayed here during the winter, and honestly, it was a letdown. The most basic necessity—hot water—was a struggle. The geyser wasn't working, and despite repeated complaints, nobody showed up to fix it. Dealing with ice-cold water in Mussoorie’s peak winter is unacceptable. The room layout and electrical system are poorly thought out. I was on the bottom bunk, and the central switch for the top bunk’s light was near my bed. When the person above me turned it off to sleep, it cut the power to my lights and charging point as well. It's a ridiculous system where you can't even charge your phone if your roommate wants the lights out. If you're looking for a "hostel vibe," look elsewhere. There were zero organized activities. They have a foosball table and carrom, but that’s it—useless if you're traveling solo and looking to socialize. I would have been better off booking a hotel with a scenic view. Lastly, accessibility is a nightmare if you have a rental bike. Because of the Mall Road location, you have to park 1-2km away. By day three, trekking back and forth to your bike drains all your energy. The reception staff was average—neither welcoming nor rude. Overall, not worth the hassle.

Rooms were clean and well maintained. Got some amazing views. Friendly host Sunil but service is kind of slow. Cabs are not allowed in market road and you have to carry you luggage to hostel and the way is a steep slope and getting the luggage back up is a task. you'd have to pay 200 extra for luggage to cross mall road entry.

We went to mussoorie in August 2025. The room we got was quite small but beautiful. The colours were beautiful and on top of that the view from the balcony was mesmerizing. We could see Dehradun from the balcony, absolutely stunning.Just a 5-minute walk from Mall Road makes it good option. The staff was friendly and helpful (a special shoutout to Sunil ji from the managing staff for their exceptional hospitality and support). A good place to stay in Mussoorie, highly recommended but from the mall road entry, rented two-wheelers are not allowed.

I stayed at Hosteller Mussoorie Mall Road and had a wonderful experience. The Dom was clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable and relaxing stay. The staff was courteous and attentive. Wonderful property in the heart of the city... The experience was amazing due to its location, from which the scenic view was so refreshing. I loved the food and the hospitality of the staff, as well as the friendly Manager Mr.Sunil, will definitely recommend. The location is also at the prime location for the view, but you have to walk 500-600m to reach the property & have no parking space to park any vehicle near the property.

It was an amazing experience. Everything was so warm and hospitable right from the start till the end of the trip.
