Great location, close to the beach for turtle viewing and the best end of the beach. Dinner and breakfast were both great and good value
Bathroom needed some TLC
Everything, lovely clean rustic living surrounded by nature and happy smiling faces. The food is excellent, from breakfast to dinner. And it is only 10 mins walk to a beautiful remote long beach with the added bonus your host Saman will guide you on a Turtle night tour, that will leave you with a life long memory. Saman has 16 years experience with turtles, and from his heart and conservation mind and red light you can spend the evening on the beach. The other brother provides a Tuk tuk service. We had a fantastic time at Peacock family stay.
Nothing
Nice vibe, you feel well taken care of. The staff feels friendly like family. The room is colourful and a not the newest, but it has what you need. Only a few hundred meters to an amazing beach
Amazing place in the middle of the jungle. Very rural and simplistic. The perfect place to take a vacation from society. The beach is very close and there are almost no people there, but you have the chance to see baby turtles hatch. Close by the lodge there are also several cute places to eat with just the best food. So all in all if you're looking for a place close to nature and far away from people, this is the place to be.
De location, near the beach. The host told about the turtle program Food was good, but you had to wait almost one hour after ordering.
The room was very dark. Bad maintenance, the tap was running all the time, no way to stop it. The bathroom is not in shape and not hygienic. There was only one light. The rest of the light bulbs were broken or missing. Electricity dangerous. Outside no space to sit in the shade. In general hospitality and care beliw level. . Price quality rate is that it is way too expensive We left after one night although we had booked for three.

The quietness of this place is exactly what I was looking for in my Sri Lanka trip. I ended up staying one week here, enjoying the nature, the birds sound and an almost empty beach at just 2 minutes walk from the room. ( you can actually hear the waves with the open window) The host, Saman, and his family always have a smile for everyone and they make everything possible to make you feel at home and comfortable. The breakfast is different everyday and made me full till the evening! There are also bikes for rent perfect for .moving around if you want
Luckily I've decided to stay here, I was looking for a calm and relaxed place close to the ocean and that's what I've found. The beach is 2 minutes by walk and it is beautiful, very wild, you won't find many restaurants here, you can enjoy long walks on the sand and when is high season you can also have a swim ( I've been there in August and the ocean was too rough for swimming). At night I witnessed an incredible event, a Sea Turtle laid her eggs on the shore. It was Amazing. Indeed there's a Turtle Conservation Centre nearby the entrance of the beach. Saman has been super nice, we become good friends, he took me around and showed me so many things, including the Turtles. The accommodation is nice and simple, it is surranded by Saman's garden that is full of plants and animals. You might have the chance to see the legendary MouseDeer. Saman's Mum is the greatest cook, i loved all her breakfasts and meals that che prepared for me (they also run a small Restaurant). I really raccomend this place, hopefully I will be able to come back here again!
Un petit coin de paradis , un hôte au top
Todo súper bonito, cómodo y la comida muy buena. El chico tubo paciencia y nos enseño las tortugas con mucho respeto.
Located a bit away from the buzz of Tangalle Beach, but just a 3-min walk to the turtle conservation area, it was great for experiencing turtle nesting & hatching (watched two Green Sea Turtles laying eggs at night). The owner of the homestay guides you on a 3-4h turtle night walk for LKR 1.5k per person, most importantly he is actually very respectful to the environment during his tour educating tourists, keeping distance, using only red light and ensuring that the nesting turtles are not stressed.
Very stuffy/hot room as the fan wasn’t working very well. The shower was leaking and dripping all night. The power sockets in the room are Type D (Indian); a socket with Type G (British) is available only in the community/restaurant area.
Beautiful place to stay, in lovely gardens and so close to the beach where I got to see lots of turtles
Lovely little cabin 5 minutes from the beach, very calm spot ideal for relaxing at the beach or at the cabin. The turtle watching was fantastic, we saw several turtles and one laying her eggs. The food was good, the breakfast a bit light but we asked for more. The owner is a nice guy, made us welcome and took us out looking for turtles (1500 pp)
Nothing
Wonderful staff, rooms are simple but great value for the price. Good breakfast, beautiful gardens to relax in, close to the beach. a few minutes walk to the turtle sanctuary.
Not many restaurants nearby but an easy tuk-tuk ride if you want to get other food/drink options.
Beautiful stay in the middle of nature, right next to the beach. Saman was an amazing host who made sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was amazing, the dinner was good and reasonably priced too. He took us to see the turtles lay their eggs on the beach at night and it was much better than the tours you'd usually take there. We were also able to rent a scooter from him at a reasonable price. All in all I would 100% recommend staying here
The air in the room tended to get a bit stuffy, though this wasn't a big problem as you could simply open the window and turn the fan on
Nice family and nice atmosphere overall. Food and location were very nice! Quiet and not far from the beach with turtles!
Room was very basic, dark and not well equipped
If you want a quiet place to stay with a really nice host and some good food, you just found the place you were looking for ! Our stay here was amazing and we were lucky to see some turtles at night with our host, thanks for everything !
Great selection of little homestay restaurants within walking distance and on the edge of the turtle conservation. Beach is beautifully clean. Host was friendly and helpful. On site restaurant.
No handle on bathroom door. Just a bit shabby generally although nice setting. Dinner luke warm and a stodgy. Fan in room.not very efficient luckily after a long drive we were bushed anyway so slept OK
O, where to begin… the host was extraordinary kind and helpful. Welcomed us with all smiles and fresh juice. Traditional Sri Lanka breakfast was prepared daily. The host took us on a sea turtle excursion and taught us the meaning of real patience. We witnessed three sea turtles laying eggs. Unforgettable.
Nothing!
Saman, the host! He’s gentle and quietly passionate about nature and shells turtles and the beach. Location- 3 mins walk from the beautiful empty beach. You can still hear the waves. But the price is much lower than beachfront places. Very clean - Saman is constantly sweeping the lane and garden, the sheets and rooms are clean. The rooms are a mix of older and newer. Some are slightly showing their age. But all are very clean and spacious.
It can be hot if you’re sensitive to heat, with no AC. But Saman kindly gave us an extra fan. And if you want AC, then book elsewhere. Currently no availability of filtered water. I felt sad using many bottles of water. But Saman is considering investing in a water filter.
I liked the hospitality.
The exterior lighting can be improved.
Amazing host, anytime smiling and helpfull. He took us on evening walk to turtles. It was the unfofgettabe experience in my life. Thanks for everithink.
The facility is very nice, close to a wonderful natural beach. The nature is amazing, and the main highlight-sea turtles! Hosts very nice and helpful. Had a great time!
Really great place, just near the beautiful beach - walking distance. We were lucky that at the time we stayed we were only guests. We were surrounded by the nature and only nature sounds. Also the host was very welcoming and friendly. The night walk to see the turtles was really amazing. We enjoyed the place and hospitality so much, so we decided to stay longer there.
a beautiful experience, turtles hatching, the food was great, kind people, amazing beaches and sea, beautiful nature and nice room, we miss It so much
The property was peaceful, comfortable and it was in a great location. A must stay for anyone visiting Tangelle
No complaints at all
Super friendly staff, great location close to the beach (turtle watch possible), very nice and green garden
The best accommodation we had in Sri Lanka! Saman and his family were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. Also, the dinner we had there was great and tasty. The location is very close to the sea and turtle station, area is very calm and relaxing. We could use Saman’s scooter for tour around the city and surroundings. We really enjoyed the night turtle watching tour organised by Saman. At first, we planned to stay just one night, but the place is so beautiful and cozy so that we decided to stay three nights! Would recommend staying here to our friends!
Wi-Fi connectivity could be improved.
Lovely family, absolutely beautiful garden with sweet little huts. I felt like home. Saman, the owner, was always around when I needed something, always up for good advise or ideas what I could do but never pushing anything. It was just great and I'm looking forward to come again!
Our accommodation was located in the middle of nature , we could see beautiful birds and monkeys from our porch. The homestay is also close to an amazing beach which we had all for ourselves. Saman, our host was amazing, fun, full of great tips and advice, kind and patient. We did the turtle tour at night with him and it was an incredible experience, we saw many turtles, making their nests, laying eggs, and coming out of the sea. Saman was very knowledgeable and could answer all our questions. We also had breakfast there and it was very nice. Highly recommend the place!
Nothing. It was perfect 😊
We loved the location of Peacock Family stay - 300m to the beach and also where they release baby turtles! Saman was an incredible host who would always talk to us and even brought the router out to us when he knew we were working in the common area. Dipika was also so lovely and decorated our room :) The food was fresh and delicious (thank you Samans mum!) and the area was so interesting - a mini jungle but right at the beach!
Unfortunately we booked the basic room which was a mud hut at the end of the garden… because of the extreme weather at the moment the room never got cool (fan only) and was so humid that we found it difficult to sleep. Also we couldn’t work in the room as wifi didn’t reach - only in common area. If we were to stay again we would pay extra for the rooms closer to the common area, as they seem to be airier and would also have WiFi.
Good large clean room in a beautiful garden where you can relax and watch all the wild life. The food prepared by Samans mother and sister was plentiful and very tasty. The beach is only a few minutes away and you can go to sleep listening to the sound of the waves. A wonderful homestay. Hope to return.
Leaving.
We had a great time close to the beach 🏝️ The perfect spot if you would like to see turtles 🐢 Great food and Saman is very great host.
Saman is a great and caring host, who gives great advice for trips. Great quiet area with long amazing beaches, cute hidden restaurants and turtles. Best home base to explore the beautiful area.
Was really sad to leave :-(
Perfect place near the Turtle beach Perfect Host, super friendly and his tour to beach at night to see the turtles was awesome. Perfect breakfast and dinner. Absolutely recommend!
A little hot in the accommodation
Saman and his family are so friendly and helpful. The food was just delicious and every day I got something else for breakfast, really nice. You can go directly with Saman to see the turtles in the evening! I had a great stay there and would like to come back :) Thanks a lot!
Really nice place, big garden with shadow spots which give you possibility to chill out there. The one thing I wish I could use is a comfy chair or hammock, that would make this chill even better. Simple but delicious breakfast. We also loved the full fish served on dinner. The place is located next to the turtle center. The guys from the center walk on the beach and look for the turtles which lay eggs every night. It's great activity to join them. The owner is friendly and sociable which make the Peacock Family stay really great place to socialize with others. The nearest beach is not the best place to swim because the waves are big, but you can easily go for example to silent beach which is close by. I would definitelly recommend this place, thank you ♥️🙏
We were warmly welcome by Saman, his family with a juice. The family stay is in a quiet environment, with peacocks passing in the garden, squirrels, birds and lezards. Shells are used to decorate the Homestay is pretty well done. We are close to the beach so convenient to walk on the beach and observe babies turtles running to the sea. The volunteers are doing a great job. We were with Saman to observe the turtles coming from the sea to lay down their eggs. Both observation were ethical, calm, with the light of the sky and sometimes red light. The breakfast, and dinner were delicious thank you to the mother and sister for cooking fresh food. Neyma, the brother is a safe Tuk Tuk driver.
It was hot in the room even with the fan.
Great Host who helps you with everything. Delicious food and family like atmosphere. Also perfect location to see turtles hatch and lay eggs.
Friendly staff, huge garden, tasty dinner
stinky air in the bathroom from a sump nearby
Saman Is a great host, willing to help with aby issues. Perfect location near a wild beach.
The ideal place to stay if you want a place super near to an amazing beach with a forest of coconuts!! The area is perfect for relaxing and enjoy the sea of Sri Lanka! The rooms were clean, very quiet with a Sri Lanka style decoration 🙂We loved it! We had also dinner in the garden area which was also beautiful and the food tasty!!!The breakfast too!!! But overall our best memory was Saman! The son of the family of the peacock place..We missed him already, amazing guy, friendly, polite and will help you in whatever you need! And if you are lucky an amazing night experience in the beach with the birth of small sea turtles is waiting for you there !!!
The host was like an old time buddy, someone I'd known all my life! He'll take you out around 9pm searching the beach for tracks and giant sea turtles laying eggs. He charges a small fee but it's really not much and you could be out for up to 3 hours, sitting, waiting in the dark for these turtles to appear. It's really exciting,no lights and this Guy Saman really has infra-red vision. I could barely see my hands in front of me yet he spotted a turtle that was at least 50 metres away! Very quiet and almost secluded area. You'll have the whole beach to yourself in the day,you can even go skinny dipping😅 One of the very few places in Sri Lanka where you can do something like that😅
When I say secluded and quiet on the location🏖 This was absolutely fantastic for me but wouldn't be for everyone🤔 It is a bit "off the beaten track" There's only sea and sand in close proximity to Saman's Guest House. I'd say your at least 1 mile away from any main road or shop
We had an amazing time. The host was friendly and helpful and explained to us about the life of sea turtles. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. And the house is really close to the beach.
We can recommend this guesthouse to everyone: Especially when you like to meet the big female green turtles who lay their eggs on the Tangalle beach: the host will happily take you to the beach ( just around the corner) and show you when and how to aproach the female turtles so they can bury their eggs with the least interference by mankind... Same for the baby turtles to escort them to the see! The host is ( as a local) the best guide, with respect for the turtles. Nice houses in a beautiful garden to find shade during the hottest afternoon hours with hammocks, peacocks, monkeys and lizzards.
The owner is really nice, possible to rent a scooter or to see turtles by night on the Beach with him. The place is located close to an amazing Beach really quiet. Really nice place to stay.
Saman was a great host and made our stay perfect. He took us to the beach at night and found a green turtle laying her eggs. We stayed until the turtle returned to the sea. It was such a special experience. Saman shared so much of his knowledge with us. Our breakfast was great and we loved eating helapa for the first time. It was delicious. Thanks Saman for looking after us so well.
Staying at Peacock Family is like coming home. Saman is such a good host, and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean and well maintained, the garden is well tended, and Saman will gladly take you to see his beloved turtles. If you are looking for a calm and peaceful stay in Sri Lanka, go to Peacock Family Stay.
If you want a city environment, Peacock is not for you!
Second time in Sri Lanka, second time at Peacock Family Homestay. Great location, and a welcoming host. Saman will take care of your needs and his mother will prepare you tasty food. Will come again for sure.
This pleasant place will allow you to forget about life in a big city and plunge into nature. The wild beach is only a few minutes away, here you can and should merge with nature. The beach is so clean that turtles come here to accommodate their offspring. Peacocks live on the territory, they feel at home here. It's charming! Enjoy the perfection of nature and long walks on magical beaches. Recommend. do not hesitate to ask Saman, all questions and wishes will be resolved. bring your bathroom accessories and your beach cover.
The coconut pancakes are outstanding. Everything very tidy and clean.
