Thal Sewana

Thal Sewana ist ein süsses, kleines Hotel in Familienhand am Fusse vom Berg Pidurangala. Die Mitarbeitenden sind wahnsinnig freundlich und herzlich. Die Lage ist perfekt für alle, die abseits vom Tourismus in Sigyria wohnen wollen. Das Zimmer ist sehr gross.

Absolutamente todo! Ha sido un gran placer alojarnos en Thal Sewana. El propietario nos ayudó con todas nuestras dudas y contestó a todas nuestras consultas (que no fueron pocas 😄). El lugar está situado a 2 min en tuktuk de Pidurangala Rock y a menos de 5 minutos del centro de Sigiraya. A la llegada nos consiguieron un tuktuk para llegar al hotel y luego nos consiguieron una moto de alquiler que nos acercaron hasta el hotel. El desayuno (srilankés) está muy rico y abundante y comimos allí más de una vez. Delicioso! Reservamos el safari (privado) a Mineriya con el propietario y todo fue como la seda. La persona que se encarga de gestionar el día a día del alojamiento, Sawanti, fue amabilísima, muy cercana y súper atenta. Nos dio muchos consejos y nos hizo sentir como en casa. Le estamos especialmente agradecidos. No podríamos haber escogido mejor lugar para alojarnos!

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. die unterkunft ist supper gelegen für den Ausflug auf den Pidurangala Rock. Das Frühstück wat ebenfalls sehr gut!

Este alojamiento fue increíble, esta a 3 minutos de Pidurangala Rock y es un sitio super acogedor, te hacen sentir como en casa nada más llegar. La habitación estaba muy limpia y era bastante amplia. Además, se preocupan del plan que llevas para los días que vas a estar y que no te pierdas ningún lugar de interés de la zona. En definitiva, el personal está super atento y hacen todo lo posible porque estés lo mas a gusto posible.

Nosotros estuvimos dos noches y la primera se fue la luz varias veces a lo largo de la noche y el aire acondicionado empezó a pitar sin parar, lo cual fue un poco molesto. Luego tuvimos una rana en el baño y a pesar de que la sacábamos todas las noches volvía a colarse por el sumidero de la ducha o por la ventana (no sabemos muy bien), también es normal porque el alojamiento está en mitad de la selva. Por último, no tuvimos agua caliente, informamos al personal y nos lo intentaron solucionar en cuanto lo dijimos.

Un alojamiento sencillo pero con una ubicación fantástica para visitar Pidurangala Rock y Sigiriya Lion Rock. Los anfitriones fueron muy atentos durante nuestra estancia y nos ayudaron en todo lo que necesitamos. Incluso nos organizaron un tuk-tuk a primera hora de la mañana para poder llegar a Lion Rock al amanecer, y fue todo un acierto. Si buscas una base práctica y muy bien situada para conocer la zona, es una muy buena opción.

Die Unterkunft liegt abseits, im ruhigen Wald. Die Lage ist perfekt für Safari und um den Lion Rock und den Pidurangala zu besteigen. Alle Mitarbeiter waren zuvorkommend, nett und hilfsbereit. Besonders die Dame hat uns bei vielem sehr weitergeholfen!

Great staff and location!

L’accueil était parfait, le personnel était très agréable, souriant et de bon conseil. L’emplacement est incroyable. Au milieu de la jungle au pied du rocher pidurangala. La cuisine était vraiment très très bonne. Tout était très propre.

Wir hatten einen rundum tollen Aufenthalt. Die Unterkunft ist familiengeführt und hat nur vier Zimmer. Wasanti ist unglaublich liebevoll und hilfsbereit. Die Unterkunft hat alles, was man braucht und jeder Wunsch wird einem erfüllt. Das Frühstück und das frisch gekochte Abendessen schmecken auch fantastisch. Wir können jedem die Unterkunft wärmstens ans Herz legen. Die Lage ist auch super zu den beiden Felsen. Wir wurden sogar an den Eingang begleitet. Zudem kann man sehr günstig Fahrräder ausleihen. Thal Sewana Homestay was truly one of the highlights of our Sri Lanka trip. From the moment we arrived, it felt less like a place we had booked and more like a home away from home. We first met Saman when he accompanied us from Colombo to Sigiriya, and very quickly he became more than someone helping us with our travel — he became a genuine friend. His warmth, kindness, honesty and willingness to help made our stay and our overall journey much more special. Saman also guided us while exploring Sigiriya and the surrounding areas, and some of our most memorable experiences happened because of his guidance. Watching the sunset from Pidurangala was absolutely unforgettable and remains one of the best memories of our Sri Lanka trip. What impressed us even more was that his support did not end when we left Sigiriya. Throughout the rest of our journey, he continued helping us whenever we needed assistance, including arranging and connecting us with different support in other cities. Knowing that we could reach out to him at any point gave us a great sense of comfort while travelling around Sri Lanka. The food at Thal Sewana deserves a review of its own. Everything was homemade, fresh, authentic and absolutely delicious. The quality was outstanding — easily some of the best food we had during our entire trip. Every meal felt like it had been prepared with genuine care. The homestay itself is peaceful, comfortable and welcoming, but the real beauty of Thal Sewana is the hospitality and the people behind it. We genuinely felt at home. I would highly recommend Thal Sewana Homestay to anyone visiting Sigiriya. If you are looking for more than simply a room — authentic Sri Lankan hospitality, excellent homemade food, local guidance and people who genuinely care about your journey — this is the place. Abbiamo trascorso due notti in questa struttura e ci siamo trovati davvero benissimo. La posizione è fantastica: a soli 5 minuti a piedi da Pidurangala Rock, comodissima soprattutto per chi vuole raggiungerla all’alba o al tramonto. La camera era super pulita, ordinata e soprattutto profumatissima. Ma ciò che ci ha colpito di più è stata l’accoglienza: un’atmosfera familiare e genuina che ci ha fatto sentire subito a casa, dalla mamma cuoca, ai ragazzi divisi tra l’accoglienza degli ospiti e il servizio ai tavoli con un’attenzione e una cura davvero impeccabili. Si percepisce quanto tengano a far stare bene i propri ospiti. E poi c’è Cookie, la loro dolcissima micina bianca, semplicemente adorabile! Un soggiorno davvero piacevole, in un ambiente pulito, accogliente e familiare. Consigliatissimo!

We loved the location of this property. It was quiet and relaxing, easy walk to both Pidurangala Rock and Sigiriya. The staff were so welcoming, helpful and friendly. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Good wifi. Breakfast and dinner were both tasty. The restaurant area has such a relaxing feel with beautiful plants. It was kept so tidy and clean always.

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour à Thal Sewana ! Nous avons été très bien accueillis et nous nous sommes tout de suite sentis à l’aise. Les hôtes étaient adorables et vraiment aux petits soins, toujours disponibles dès que nous avions besoin de quoi que ce soit, ce qui était particulièrement appréciable. Nous avons également dîné sur place et avons eu l’occasion de goûter pour la première fois le kottu, une spécialité sri-lankaise. C’était tellement bon que nous en avons même recommandé un deuxième ! 😋 Nous avons très bien dormi et la chambre était confortable et très fonctionnelle. L’endroit est agréable, calme, et on s’y sent vraiment bien. La localisation est également idéale pour partir à la découverte de Pidurangala Rock pour le coucher/lever de soleil, qui se trouve juste à côté. Une très bonne adresse que nous recommandons sans hésiter pour un séjour dans la région de Sigiriya !

Soggiorno fantastico, tutto perfetto! Posizione ottima, vicinissima alla Lion Rock e alla Pidurangala, l’altra montagna di Sigiriya. Colazione tipica srilankese ottima e diversa ogni giorno. Le camere hanno l’essenziale: aria condizionata funzionante e doccia calda con buona pressione ogni giorno. Un plus in più: noleggiano biciclette, e il giro in bici intorno al lago vicino all’hotel è stata un’esperienza fantastica, da non perdere. La cosa più bella, però, è stato lo staff: gentilissimo e sempre disponibile. Un ringraziamento speciale va alla proprietaria, davvero attenta a ogni dettaglio, che parla un ottimo inglese: è stato un vero piacere conoscerla. Consigliatissimo!

La colazione è sublime: per tutte e due le mattine hanno portato diverse pietanze della loro tradizione, volendo farci provare più piatti differenti. C'est notre coup de cœur du séjour ! Idéalement situé à 5 minutes du Pidurangala. Nous avons loué des vélos pour une somme modique pour faire le tour du lac. La chambre est comfortable et sent bon. La propriétaire, Wasanthi, est adorable et c'est une cuisinière exceptionnelle. Surtout, mangez sur place ! De tout le voyage, c'est de très loin à Thal Sewana qu'on a le mieux mangé. Son fils, Saman, est lui aussi intéressant et sympa, il nous a fait visiter le jardin avec cannelle, poivrier, cajou, passion, bananiers, cocotiers, etc... Le tarif qu'il propose pour le safari à Minneriya est très compétitif, ne cherchez pas ailleurs. Nous recommandons chaudement cet établissement.

Such a lovely property! The hosts exceeded expectations - organised tuk tuks to get into town, an absolutely breathtaking elephant safari and also guided us to the start of a hike at 5am. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing as well which was an added bonus! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Sigiriya

The best place where we've been during our 15 days trip in Sri Lanka. Incredibly location between Sigiriya and Pirudangala rocks, very clean and confortable. The best owner by far of our 15 days experience. A super kind woman that take care of you ad a mum. She makes you feel like at home, helping you with everything but always keeping the distance to keep your intimacy. We loved her and her place. Don't miss staying here if you plan to visit Sigiriya.

One of the best places we stayed during our trip around Sri Lanka! The house is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by a lovely garden with hammocks and plenty of peaceful corners to relax after a day of exploring. It feels like a little oasis. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and decorated with great attention to detail. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Everything was well maintained, and we immediately felt at home. But what truly makes this place special is the wonderful lady who runs it. She is one of the kindest and most genuine people we met in Sri Lanka. Always smiling, caring, and incredibly helpful, she made us feel like part of her family. She was always there whenever we needed anything and genuinely wanted us to have the best possible stay. She organised our safari and scooter rental for us, and we paid the safari company directly, which we really appreciated. Everything was perfectly arranged, and we were picked up from the guesthouse for the safari. We even had a private 4x4, making the experience even more memorable. The breakfast was simply outstanding. Everything was freshly prepared, homemade, and absolutely delicious. She is an excellent cook! We also had dinner there, and every meal was fantastic. If you stay here, don’t miss the chance to eat at the guesthouse. They also have cold water, soft drinks, beer, and even wine available, which is very convenient after a long day of sightseeing. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Sigiriya. The accommodation is beautiful, but it is the warmth, generosity, and hospitality of the owner that make this place truly unforgettable. We would recommend it without hesitation to anyone visiting Sri Lanka, and we would happily stay here again. Thank you for making our trip so special! ❤️

Very nice and peaceful place at a perfect location close to the Lion rock. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I saw langur monkeys and monitor lizards (and of course the macaque monkeys) close to the house.

Wat een heerlijk verblijf! We werden verwelkomd door de liefste mensen die ons met open armen ontvingen. Alles was dik in orde! Op amper 500m van Pidurangala rock én Lion rock. Een mega aanrader wat ons betreft!

Wat een fantastische plek is dit, zó rustgevend! De eigenaresse en haar familie zijn zulke warme mensen, ze willen je het zó graag naar de zin maken, we hebben ons heel erg welkom gevoeld!! Het ontbijt was ook geweldig! Heel verrassend en iedere ochtend nieuwe Sri Lankese gerechten ontdekt. Ook het diner was heerlijk en er worden koude biertjes en wijn verkocht. Heel dicht bij zowel de Lion Rock als Pdurangala Rock, op loopafstand. Dit is een plek die je niet mag missen!!

Loved our stay here. Very close to Lions rock, you can walk there. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Bed was huge and very comfy!

Host was super lovely. The food was incredible!! Way better than any of the restaurants on the main road. We could walk to both pidurungula and Sigiriya rock from the place.

Great location in the countryside between the two hills. Hosts were delightful, incredibly friendly and helpful with organising transportation to town and also a safari. Evening meals and breakfast were very good. Excellent value for money.

We were sorry to leave the accommodation at the end of our stay as we had such delightful hosts. I have a troublesome shoulder and I did find the bed a little uncomfortable but otherwise great stay.

The owner and her son are wonderful; they prepare everything with love, just like a mother would for her guests. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is the best in Sri Lanka, and the garden is beautiful and well-kept—a perfect place to relax (honestly, the photos don't do the place justice). You can also have dinner there at a good price. We spent four nights there and wish we could have spent even more time with them!

Per qualsiasi necessità ci ha aiutati con il sorriso, facendoci sentire come a casa. Il cibo fatto in casa era davvero buonissimo, preparato con cura e con ingredienti di qualità. Anche la posizione dell’hotel è ottima, comoda per raggiungere le principali attrazioni, e la pulizia degli ambienti è stata impeccabile durante tutto il soggiorno. Consigliamo questo hotel a chiunque cerchi un luogo accogliente, con un servizio eccellente e un’atmosfera familiare. Ci torneremo sicuramente!

Property is in a perfect location if you wanna visit both rocks. Owners are super helpful and friendly. They also offer a homemade food, so you can eat lunch or dinner with calm.

Saman was incredibly efficient and helpful with organising our activities particularly as we gave him very little notice. The guest house was a great location to climb the two big rocks and Saman got up particularly early to drive us the short distance just in case of elephants. The rooms were incredibly clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely amazing! Our favourite stay in Sri Lanka so far by a long way. Saman was the perfect host and his mother was adorable. Gorgeous location on the edge of the jungle, just 5 mins walk from Pidurangala rock, which we climbed for sunrise. Fabulous breakfast, we ate so well. Such a relaxing place to hang out when not doing other activities, but Saman was great at organising things to do, cookery course, slender loris spotting, sunset birdwatching boat trip on the lake, arranging transport for us. Absolutely the best place to stay.

The manager was very communicative and welcoming. The plaace had lots of International tourists we could speak with at dinner. They also organise all safaris and activities.

Room was basic, but still excellent for the price we paid.

The property is at a walkable distance to both Pidurangala rock and Sigriya Lion rock, which makes it ideal. The host was very friendly ane helpful. The property is a little isolated, but the hotel itself has food and beverages options. If you are walking outside during early morning or during dark hours, please beware of wild elephants.

the hospitality of the owner was amazing, the food was amazing and it was calm and peaceful. We tried the Srilankan rice and curry from the menu, it was so tasteful. This place is far better than any fancy hotel.

The Location was good to travel to both Pidarangula Rock and Sigiriya Lion Rock. The owner is very hospitable. The food was good and a good range of alcohol was available.

There are no vehicles available so you may have to book a vehicle in advance, and the local apps are not much available in the area.

The host and his family were awsome! Extremely helpful. Saman waa wonderful and everyone treated us like family member.

Deze man is amazing. Samen met zijn moeder runt Saman deze geweldige plek vlakbij de ingang van Pidurangala rock. De locatie is fantastisch. En deze man gaat verder dan wat dan ook om je te helpen. Hij loopt met je mee tot de ingang van de hike om ervoor te zorgen dat er niks gebeurt als je olifanten tegenkomt. Je hoeft hem maar te appen en hij regelt alles voor je. Hij heeft zelfs treintickets voor ons gefixt terwijl het uitverkocht was. Verderop de route heeft hij zelfs nog een driver voor ons geregeld omdat wij onze route hadden omgegooid en ik even niet wist wie betrouwbaar was. Saman verdient een standbeeld en zijn moeder is zó lief! We dachten eerst dat de locatie te ver van het centrum zou zijn, maar je loopt er zo heen en de naam centrum mag het nieteens hebben. Dus wil je beide rocks beklimmen, dit is absoluut de plek waar je moet zijn!

De kamer is sober, maar als je luxe zoekt moet je sowieso niet in Sigiriya zijn. Het heeft alles wat je nodig hebt.

During our 2-night stay, we were welcomed very well. The host lady was very helpful and gave us good suggestions. We wanted to have a massage, she suggested a nice place. She took care of us with motherly instinct and kindness. Our room smelled clean. When we woke up in the morning, it was obvious that the floors had just been wiped. The garden is very pleasant, we sat in the evening and watched the stars. We loved it very much. Be sure to stay if you are on your way.

Unser Aufenthalt bei Saman und seiner Familie war einfach toll! Das Essen war super lecker und Saman war so hilfsbereit. Wenn wir woeder nach Sigiriya kommen, werden wir definitiv wieder hier übernachten.

pidurangalaに歩いて行くことができ、sigiriyaにもトゥクトゥクで行ける(帰りは頑張って歩きました！)距離で本当に立地がいいです！あと、ご飯も注文できるので、暗くなってから出歩かなくて済みました！kottuもカレーもとても美味しかったです！何より、オーナーもスタッフの男性も優しいです！早朝にシギリヤに行ってから少し仮眠を取ると言ったら、朝ごはんの時間を過ぎてるのに取り置きして後から出してくれました。

hot waterのスイッチがあったのですが、最初の5秒ぐらいでぬるくなってしまいました。暑かったので全く支障はありませんでしたが、気になる方は気になるかも。あと、ご飯は40分ぐらい提供にかかります。その分味は美味しいので、ゆっくり待ちましょう！

We really loved our stay. We felt like home. Bonus, we could walk easily to Pidurangala Rock in the early morning. A big thank you to our amazing host!

We had an absolutely fabulous stay. The property felt very safe, comfortable, and peaceful, with quiet rooms that made it easy to truly relax. Each morning we enjoyed a delicious homemade breakfast and delicious dinners at night - which was a real highlight. The hosts were incredibly friendly and caring, and went above and beyond to help us make the most of our trip. They provided great recommendations for places to visit, which made everything so much easier. Overall, they made our vacation effortless and genuinely enjoyable. We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to come back again.

Thal Sewana was a perfect home stay. It’s located walking distance to both Lions Rock and Pidurangala, making it super easy to get up for an early morning hike and is in such a peaceful area! Our host was so warm and welcoming, made us feel right at home. She woke up early to help us find our way to the trailhead and had a delicious breakfast prepared when we were back. Would definitely recommend!

"Ik schrijf meestal korte beoordelingen, maar dit verblijf bij Thal Sewana was zo bijzonder dat ik er meer over wil vertellen. Ik heb nog nooit zulke lieve en behulpzame mensen ontmoet. De locatie is perfect, vlakbij Pidurangala Rock. Wat me ook meteen opviel, is dat alles ontzettend schoon en netjes is. De gastvrouw deed er alles aan om mijn verblijf onvergetelijk te maken. Omdat ik vroeg in de ochtend de Lion's Rock wilde beklimmen, stond ze om 5 uur 's ochtends op om een tuktuk voor me te regelen. De dag ervoor had ze ook al een heen- en terugreis naar Dambulla voor me georganiseerd. Toen ik na de Lion's Rock direct doorliep naar Pidurangala, stuurde ze zelfs haar kleinzoon mee om me te vergezellen. Bij terugkomst stond er een heerlijk, vers bereid ontbijt en koffie op me te wachten. En dat allemaal voor slechts 30 dollar! Ik ben absoluut betoverd door deze plek, de hygiëne en de oprechte zorg van de familie. Ik raad Thal Sewana aan iedereen van harte aan!"
