Peaceful location and easy to find. Spacious and comfortable.

The only thing we didn’t like was that the shower was over the bath. For someone with mobility issues (and there were two of us) that made showering difficult …

Comfortable, clean and cosy studio which was very roomy and had everything we needed. Lovely garden and outside seating area to enjoy the sunshine. Great breakfast provided and nice to meet Sandy upon arrival to let us in. Very much enjoyed our stay - thank you!

Entirely exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. Everything we could possibly need was in the rooms and could not fault the layout. A bit of a drive to town but was worth it.

Nice breakfast was provided including milk, butter, bread, cereals, juice, jam and yogurt, tea and coffee Very clean and spacious unit on the ground floor with nice outside sitting area. Unit is well decorated Very nice and helpful hosts. We spent 5 weeks in New Zealand and it was the best accommodation in every possible way

Spacious apartament with kitchen, washing machine and everything you need for a short as well as a longer haliday stay.

Contact with the owner was limited to 2 minutes of giving the necessary instructions... unfortunately, without a smile on her face - we were really disapointed. The garden is austere and sad. The green flowering plants along the fence would make it a cozy place to spend time:)

The location is ideal and its in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Friendly host who met us on arrival. Accommodation was beautifully presented, clean and comfortable with everything you would need. We would have stayed longer if our commitments allowed us to. Will stay again if available.

Hostess was very helpful. We used the information booklet to select a place for dinner. Breakfast food was well organised and nicely presented. Lovely outdoor area.

The Sunrise apartment was really spacious and very clean. It had pretty much everything you could need and more, lots of extra touches that were thoughtful ... like milk and a cool drink in the fridge, lots of standard breakfast choices with fresh bread and cereals, yoghurt and fruit cups, plus pots of honey, jam etc. in the fridge. Included was a full kitchen, comfy lounge, king size bed and a large bathroom/laundry. Doug and Sandra provide lovely linen, super soft towels and nice sheets too. That's always appreciated when travelling :) There is a spacious back yard with a covered deck over the entrance and sliding door of the apartment, this was a nice afternoon spot to sit and watch the sunset. The outdoor seats were comfy and easy to move, to take in the left side of the yard (which has a better view - see below). Also appreciated the outdoor clothes line to dry our beach gear. The location was good and quiet, only 10 mins from Whakatane town and 200m down the road to Coastlands Beach. Ohope Beach is about 20 mins drive (10 mins south of Whakatane) and not that much better than the one down the road, although the views getting to Ohope were worth the drive.

Pillows ... there was a choice but like many places, they're either too large & fat or too flat, soft and lumpy ... not really anything in between. It is a personal thing for sure, but easy enough to remedy. Perhaps invest in some in-between pillows and maybe latex ones ... as they tend to last and don't get lumpy. We have these in our BnB and everyone seems to be happy with them. The only other suggestion would be to plant a few nice leafy plants along the right hand side of the back fence (where the tall palm and tea tree are) ... to cover the ugly sheds next door. The Sunrise wall is nice, but isn't the main view from inside. We had a rainy morning when we stayed and it would have been a lot nicer with a few soft plants to look at, whilst sitting in the lounge room looking out through the main sliding door. Other than those couple of things, the place was great and good value, especially given the spaciousness. Many thanks Doug and Sandra ... sorry we didn't get to say goodbye before we left

Extra treats on arrival, food, juice etc.

Arrived in the pouring wet rain to be warmly greeted by Doug. The accommodation was warm and cosy and a real home away from home. Very inviting, peaceful and relaxing. Wished we’d have booked to stay longer and couldn’t extend due to other guests checking in. Top notch place! Highly recommend!

Would be nice to have a list of recommended takeaways/ restaurants/ cafes in the ‘Welcome Guest Book’ particularly as we’d been touring around sightseeing all day and were pretty tired and exhausted when we arrived and it was a real effort searching up online trying to work out where to go.

The room was very clean and the hosts provided snacks and breakfast.

Shower pressure and flow was disappointing. After a long days work and needing a hot shower I was disappointed due to the lack of pressure and flow. I was cold standing under the shower as I could not heat up due to the lack of flow and the room was cold due to winter time temperature.

Nice and close to town for convenience but feels like it’s miles away for holidays. Quiet and comfortable.

Nothing to be fair. Maybe darker curtains in lounge for when sun sets, as it was mid summer and hot.

The place was spotlessly clean, spacious, quiet and very comfortable. And huge! David met us as we pulled into the driveway and gave us the keys, and that was that. Nice and easy.

Quiet location with the most stunning beach 5 min away at the bottom of the road. Very friendly and welcoming owners. The unit is huge for 2 people & this is by far the best equipped kitchen we've come across on our NZ travels. So we cooked & ate in rather than going out - a nice change! Washing machine and clothes line outside were used & much appreciated. Lovely garden with covered seating area where we ate both dinner & breakfast. You coukd easily stay in this lovely apartment for a week, never mind one night! Highly recommended.

What can I say.. so many great points.. the cost is a little more than what we normally pay at motels but definitely worth it.. comfy couch.. beds.. pillows.. even the bath towels were so fluffy and soft.. good size apartment.. great backyard to relax.... peaceful.. close to beach.. basically like your own home.. way better than standard motel.. and the breakfast and snacks were the best.. All the little extras made you feel at home

just the lounge blinds are not block out so people could see in from the outside (we like privacy).. and only Freeview...but other than that we would love to come again and would recommend to others

Bit far from shops

Friendly welcoming hosts on arrival who suggested a few things happening in town that we could do and see. Tidy, Private, Quiet & clean apartment with comfy bed/s, a CD player & CDs that helped us get through the 500 piece Road Trip puzzle that night lol and a couple other puzzles to choose from. Breakfast choices (Porridge, Muesli or Weetbix) with Yoghurt or Fruit Salad and a jug of milk and juice in the fridge. Beach Towels for the beach which is a 5min walk up the road. Spacious Bathroom/Laundry and separate loo and lovely clean white fluffy towels & flannels. Not too far from town and Would stay again & recommend to others.

Really nicely renovated downstairs unit, the lovely hosts are upstairs and came down to show us around when we arrived. So many thoughtful touches, towels for the beach, a first aid kit, great kitchen utensils, basics like oil and a few spices and an air fryer for quick meals. Cereals, milk, juice and yoghurt provided. They even had a high chair, bibs and a box of toys for my toddler! Full bathroom including bath and a washing machine. Great outdoor area to sit and relax. Super comfy bed. You could probably walk to the beach and Ohope is only a short drive over the hill. A few minutes drive into town so it's nice and peaceful. Lovely hosts, would definitely stay again.

Only has freeview tv. Which wasn't an issue for us as we were out most of the day anyway.

Location suited us on our drive south along the coast. Close to beach and shops yet in quiet neighbourhood.Owners friendly and helpful. Good breakfast supplies, also proper freezer.

I liked the Cozy vibe the apartment gave.

I didn't like the water pressure of the shower. It seemed to be a low pressure.

The property itself was nice and thought it would be ideal and walking distance to my daughters and we were in and out organising my grandsons 1st birthday

The hosts they invaded our privacy and my granddaughter was enjoying her self running around after a 4 hour drive hosts didn’t like, and hosts didn’t give me the chance to update them we had a extra adult staying

The privacy provided, so great not sharing a space such as a hotel and such. it felt like home away from home. it was very child friendly, didn't need to worry about many breakable ornaments and things. my daughter loved the backyard full of sculptures. we loved it was fully fenced providing a safe play area to our daughter.

Well set up accommodation and close to beach, with township not too far away. Would strongly recommend this place. Roomy, facilities excellent and helpful owner.
