Reviewed Sep 8, 2026They had goats and geese which entertained my daughter. The Hosts were extremely accomodating, I mentioned my daughter would need to nap and they set up our room so we could get there and she had time to nap before we did anything else.
No fault of the hosts but unfortunately some guests were not considerate of other guests and were playing music extremely loud and during the entire night until the morning.

Reviewed Jul 10, 2026The photos don't do justice to just how cosy the place is. I had a minor incident and they were so gracious and refused for me to pay extra for the damage .I would highly recommend staying there and will mostly definitely do it again.

Reviewed Apr 29, 2026This is a very well run establishment. Easy access from the N3 but feels incredibly remote. Great walking and cycling routes on the property with a clean running stream and well looked after forests. Facilities are pretty comfortable and well appointed. A Special treat was Toffee a little Jack Russell willing to show off his party tricks for your amusement and several different types of farm animals. Jo was always in touch but never intrusive and we actually didn't meet her. This is a piece of paradise.

Reviewed Apr 1, 2026Location for us was excellent. We went as a family for the purposes of a family wedding at The Groves. Very comfortable and spacious and private.
Outside verandah lounge chairs. Seats were uncomfortable. Seat cushion needs to be braced underneath or new foam requires to cushions. All of the seats sink inwards making the chairs and couches uncomfortable to sit in after awhile. Separate bathrooms in main house only had hot water. This problem was resolved on our last night of stay.

The only negative was that we could hear our neighbours television until late into the night. The rooms are not soundproof due to the (locked) interleading door between rooms.

I think there could be a small honour bar. Just to have some wine, snacks. etc. as the shops are a little way away.

The room was beautiful - spacious, and comfortable, with the fireplace ensuring we were toasty! Everything about this farm was charming, and we completely loved it. P.s. Toffee (the little Jack Russel) was the cherry on top, and loved her little pop-ins!

Reviewed Jul 15, 2025Had a wonderful stay at Lavender Trout. Jo and her staff, led by Noxy, were really great with communication and coordination and made sure everything was perfect for our arrival. The cottages are really charming with a great Midlands feel. The fireplace was thoroughly enjoyed. They have all the facilities one might need and were very clean and well maintained. The surrounding grounds and Dam were also in great condition. Great value for money and we will definitely be back to stay again.

The braai could have better lighting as it light falls earlier in winter and we braaid in the dark. I did make make mention on a mesage to the owner and Jo mentioned she may add on fairy lights so this is a great idea.

Additionally it was the midst of winter and we had lots of wood for fire and/or heaters and electric blankets in every room. They even have a little table and chairs for the littles with us (ages 2-6 years old) and a lovely little jungle gym and trampoline for the kiddos too. Plus there is a full size pizza oven too! And even a dam for trout fishing and also some geese and goats. Looking forward to coming back when it’s warmer so we could use the beautiful looking pool too. Great location as well for exploring Nottingham road area.

Very spacious rooms and bathrooms equipped with everything. Would love to return in the summer and use outdoor facilities very scenic swimming pool ,walking trails and the dam that has a beautiful deck above it . Will definitely be back a hidden gem in the Midlands.
