The room was clean and well appointed. Good size shower. Very quiet. Excellent location for sightseeing and easy access to York Station.
We like The convenient location, cleanliness of accommodation and courses y of all staff.
Booking through Booking.com did not make it clear that the Full English Breakfast was not included in our payment. We had selected the venue as we had previously stayed at The Bar Convent and were looking forward to breakfast. However the Continental Breakfast was very aceptable.
Excelente relacion calidad- precio.
Me gustó todo.
Fascinating place to stay. Nice breakfast. Helpful staff. Good value and central.
Nothing- everything was okay.
I like the historic building with museum to visit. Also the closeness to the railway station.
Not impressed by the continental breakfast. Bed very small and pillows uncomfortable.
It was a wonderful location. Central to all we wanted to see.
Staff are amazing, food is delicious, building is unique & beautiful, rooms are lovely & beds are super comfy
Rooms were spacious and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Conveniently located near train station. Great historic building. Peaceful garden.
Some street noise but difficult to eliminate due to the location.
Nettes Personal und süßes altes Gebäude.
Das Frühstück war ein bisschen dürftig.
Convenient outside of the town centre, clean and tidy with good continental breakfast
Poor WiFi to our room and little dated
The location is perfect so close to shops and attractions. There are pubs both directly across the road and to the side serving food.
Winding stairs to top floor carrying suitcase. There is a lift to the second floor so there is only 1 floor to walk up the steps.
This is a beautiful spot for a stay. The building is great, fab location and AMAZING staff!! Couldn't have been better and welcomed more warmly.
Nothing! Everything was great!
It was so comfortable
Mothing
Fabulous historic building, great location for the town centre and train station, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast
It's a lovely place, clean and comfortable, close to the train station, and not a long walk into York centre, breakfast is good and they also have a cafe and the scones were lovely, the staff are at hand and will help with anything,
There was nothing I didn't like
Everything exceeded expectations.
No negative comments.
The location was excellent, within site of the city walls and within walking distance from the train station. Our first night we were given a bit of a quirky room where the toilet and shower were on the lower level and the bedroom was up a flight of stairs. The WiFi was also spotty there. The last two nights at our request we moved to another room which was all on one level and newly renovated, the other had not been. So everything worked much better and it was cosier too. A continental breakfast was offered and it was interesting to see the historic parts of the building such as the hidden chapel and garden.
Could use more hooks in bathroom/toilet for hanging towels or clothing.
Amazing old building that allows you stay in a part of English history.
Room would use a deep clean but the heat wave might have been more of the issue at the time.
Beautiful historic hotel.Very clean comfortable and great location as everywhere my wife and I wanted to go was a short distance. No hesitation to book again.
The breakfast was rather basic. But the breakfast room was lovely. Staff and location excellent.
Location, staff and nice feel
Small restaurant
The Bar Convent is wonderful building steeped in history. It has a lovely dining area, an interior conservatory, with a particularly pleasant garden with tables and chairs for outdoor eating. The clientele is very pleasant and respects the building and other guests. I have stayed in other hotels in York as I visit each summer and The Bar Convent is by far the nicest place to stay. I have eaten here on many occasions, as in the day there is a cafe that serves great home-cooked food but this was the first time I stayed. It is within a 5 minute walk of the train station and literally 30 seconds from one of the main gates into York Old Town.
If you drive, you may find it tricky to park.
Have stayed multiple times previously, reception staff always welcoming, extremely helpful staff in the cafe too as usual. Location is the major factor for my continued patronage.
Nothing.
Close to the railway station and a short walk into the centre. Very clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast in a covered atrium. Good sized garden at rear where you could have lunch or just relax.
Our room faced a very busy main road so was noisy at night. The sash window was locked slightly open, so we could not close it to shut out the noise.
Convenient location.
The need to use room keycard to access the building after 5pm ‘fearing’ that if the card was demagnetised, it wasn’t clear whether I’d be able to get in.
Location was perfect. Good breakfast. Very tranquil.
Freundliches Personal. Im grossen Lift steht ein bequemer Sessel. Schönes Café mit gepflegtem Garten.
Very friendly and helpful staff, super central location, great breakfast
Lack of parking was the only issue - had to wait for some time for a space and quite expensive- but being such a central accommodation I knew beforehand there was no off street parking available and was kindly notified of available options close by.
Cleanliness, peaceful great breakfast
Nothing
I missed breakfast because I had a train at 0743. Breakfast at BC is always a highlight. 3rd floor bedrooms accessed by rather steep staircase.
Great location. Lovely view from room into garden. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast. Wonderful old building. Loved my stay!
Mattress has seen better days. Scary, clunky lift.
Beautiful building with lots of history, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum during my stay. Lovely garden and breakfast room. My single room was clean and comfortable with a large shower room. Close to train station and York centre. My room was quiet at night. Theres a self catering facilities area with oven, microwave, toaster
Nothing
Great location. Really clean and comfortable. Lovely bathroom.
Not a thing.
Lovely hotel. Staff really friendly and the room was very nice. A unique convent transformed into a lovely hotel and all the history still there.
Nothing.
Everything perfect, thanks to all the staff
Nothing
The history of the place was very interesting and it was great to look around. Breakfast was good and the staff very friendly.
The check in/out hours were quite limited, but we were able to leave our case.

A beautiful garden, a shared kitchen, comfortable ensuite room with air conditioning. Friendly staff, lovely Continental breakfast, which you can upgrade to a full English for £6. Perfect location for train station and a 5/10 minute walk in to the city center.

Welcoming, helpful and clean.
Not able to get drinks, both nonalcoholic or alcoholic, after 3.30 pm. Shane’s as there is a beautiful garden that would have been lovely to rest in with a cuppa.
Excellent location, big and clean room, comfy bed, nice shower and the air conditioning worked well. The cafe is a nice extra - we had breakfast and lunch in the bright atrium area. Staff were helpful.
Lovely big rooms and a really interesting building. though we didn’t used the shared kitchen I think it’s a great facility to have for a longer stay.
I just stayed here for one night but i can really only say positive things. The rooms are nice, the breakfast is nice, the staff is really friendly, but also, it is just a special place. I had no idea about the history of the building, or what it really was. I booked here short term after spontaneously deciding the day before that I want to see York. But after going through the exhibition in the cellar, and doing the house tour (and a bit of reading up to connect the dots) I know so much more now and even found a connection to my home. What a lovely place to visit. Warmly recommended.
Was attending a wedding, was very central, close proximity to railway station and wedding venue
No problems
The location was great, just a short walk to the station & points of interest. Loved the history of the hotel.
Their breakfast times were too late for me to take advantage of as I needed to get an early train.
Location was a few minutes walk from the railway, there's a nice calm atmosphere, staff were very helpful, room and bathroom were good sizes, was good to be able to have use of a shared kitchen, we only used the fridge, looked as though there was everything you would need thoough
There wasn't much to dislike, my bed wasn't very combfortable but everyone's likes are different, my husband slept well in his
Just a few minutes walk from the train station, our room was on the inside of the building overlooking the secret garden rather than the main road so we were very pleased about that. The hotel had a lot to offer, even a chapel to explore and lots of history, photos and information on what it was used for in the past.
breakfast isn't served until 7.45 and for a very short window until 9am. I feel some people would like an earlier option so they can get up and out, especially anyone staying for work.
Staff and cleanliness were good. Totally humiliated and embarrased when asked to paybextra for cooked breakfast which i understood as stated to be in the cost of the booking. I was asked in front of other guests which added to humiliation. I suffer from a physical disability. Spoke with lady on desk who blamed booking agency . Found this unacceptable, won 't be returning again and yet this is supposed to be under a Christian patronage
As above
I enjoyed the history of the convent, and the unique nature of the institution.
A minor issue - a suitcase rack in my room would have been helpful.
Gute Lage.
A lovely room, very quiet, with a bed as comfy as a cloud, tea/coffee making facilities and a bathroom with copious hot water and generous towels. The building is quirky - as you would expect in such a historic building - and you may need the excellent signage to remember where your room is, but the friendly staff go over and above to help make your stay special. Bar Convent is literally 5 min walk from the station and 15 min from the Minster, so it is ideally situated for sightseeing. Booking.com covers a continental breakfast, but an upgrade to a full cooked breakfast was on offer. I enjoyed mine in the beautiful garden. And do NOT miss a visit to the excellent exhibition (discounted price for guests) and the spectacular 'hidden' chapel, built 100 years before this was legal. There is a priest hole from an earlier period to see, but the Chapel was built and hidden in plain sight, and could be passed off in a raid as an area to teach dancing to the pupils of the attached school while priests carrying religious artefacts escaped through the windows! What a story to find on your over-night stay!
Absolutely nothing! It was perfect for me, and I'm definitely going to stay there again on a trip to York.
Beautifully clean hotel. Extremely peaceful and the facilities are very good
There is nothing that I didn't like
Building and location are excellent! Really good option in the area and great value for money.
I assumed a continental breakfast would include cold meats, cheese, pastries etc. but it included only toast and cereal which was a little disappointing.
The location is excellent the establishment is quiet and civilised the staff are helpful the rooms are very clean well looked after
Nothing
Convenience to city centre - garden lovely to relax in.
Quite noisy as near a road junction but extra glazing helped and air conditioning
Lovely place, quiet and has a serenity to it which is unusual in hotels. Air con was wonderful during heatwave. Lovely little garden and spacious atrium area for breakfast.
Amazed it was so near everything and yet so quiet and peaceful. Lovely staff on Reception and in the garden. The cool air-con in my room was a welcome boon after a long hot journey during a train strike! Comfortable room and generous-size bathroom. Continental breakfast was included with Booking.com and it was delicious, ample and good quality - loved the home-made granola! There was a stunning tiled atrium cafe but I ate it outside in the beautiful gardens which made a wonderful start to the day. There was a kitchen room we could use too which I didn't explore but would have been useful if I were staying longer. Would not hesitate to stay again and highly recommend this unusual historic building.
All excellent - really cannot fault it.
La sencillez limpieza atención y comodidad
Nada en especial
Location - garden - breakfast
I have a head full of bruises- the door frame to my room was small - I thumped my head against it so many times……..I’m 6 ft 2 the frame 5 ft 11?
I always look forward to my stays at Bar Convent. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The place has such a good vibe. A good nights sleep in a comfortable bed is guaranteed to restore calm and relaxation. There is also the historical interest of the convent, a beautiful chapel with an interesting relic and a gorgeous gift shop where you will discover books, cards, jewellery and a great variety of reasonably-priced and unique presents. The secluded little garden is my favourite corner where one can sit and enjoy a coffee and delicious cake from the café too. Definitely my 'go-to' retreat when in York.
When it's time to leave and return home!
The lift was hot
Room was clean and comfortable and the air conditioning was an unexpected bonus. Lovely continental breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Beautiful building. Great location. Lovely staff.
The convent was fascinating and comfortable to stay in. Our room was beautiful & clean with everything we needed. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Conveniently placed for public transport & for walking into the city centre.
Only down side was that our room faced the main road, we live in a quiet area so the traffic noise did disturb us. We will definitely return but will be asking for an internal room.
Great location to be able to walk to any of the sites in York. Room very clean and well decorated.
If you book through Booking.com a cooked breakfast isn't included, whereas if you book directly it is! This was a not a nice surprise and I don't recollect it being clear when I booked. The ordinary breakfast was adequate.
centraal gelegen bijzonder verblijf in oud klooster. Comfortabele kamer, goed ontbijt.
niets aan te merken
Great location and a beautiful historic building The room was very spacious and the air con a fantastic addition. The staff were all really helpful, pleasant and went above and beyond to help and assist us. Lovely continental breakfast and the full English breakfast in the little cafe on site was exceptional. My favourite spot was in the secret garden. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Friendly staff. Reception is lovely. Central location with a quiet garden. The building. Beautiful tiling. Lovingly looked after
Location is excellent in close proximity to both the centre of York and the railway station. Staff are very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was tremendous. An unusual property with much heritage makes a visit interesting.
Très bien situé , parking à proximité, personnel très gentil Bon petit déjeuné
Rien
Different place to a usual stay
Breakfast is only a continental which isnt said on booking.com
The sense of hospitality was real. The breakfast room and café were really pretty. The garden out the back was gorgeous.. there was a self catering kitchen including washing machine. And it was quiet.
Nothing
Amazing so friendly clean
Everything was perfect
Clean comfortable rooms lovely garden
I regularly use B&Bs and this was without doubt the best ever. The staff were, without fail, kind and helpful. The building is, as the title says, part of a convent and has a wonderful spiritual feel to it. The history to the place is extensive and the Convent is full of evidence of that history, including an 18th century ‘hidden chapel’. My room was quite large as most single rooms are tiny. The bed was comfortable. The shower was powerful. The internet was good. There is even a secret garden for guests to enjoy away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Convent is situated very near the railway way station and within easy walking distance of the city centre. The continental breakfast was of a high quality and had everything you would expect All in all a wonderful stay
The cafe/breakfast room were gorgeous and so were the gardens. So peaceful. All staff were super lovely and friendly. Such a great opportunity to stay in a historic building
There needed to be some sort of small table or stand in the bathroom as a wash bag would not fit on the shelf under the mirror. A desk lampy would be useful too. There was a bedside lamp but when I needed to work at night a small lamp on the desk would be helpful.
Excellent. Highly recommended.
I think the Wi-Fi was down when we stayed but that didn’t matter.
Loved the location. The breakfast was excellent. Great choice for continental. The bedroom was spacious and loved the firm pillows. The history of the hotel was interesting and enjoyed the exhibition. Beautiful chapel in the hotel.
Nothing
Breakfast room was lovely. The sunlight and atmosphere made it a wonderful place to enjoy a tea and scone, while doing some work.
There were record setting tempertures during my stay, which raised the temperature of the room I was in. There was a fan, but it was noisy. I think it may have been broken.
Excellent location for train station and to walk to the centre. Air con in the room was a bonus. Bed was comfy Continental breakfast with booking but we paid £8 for an English which was great value.
The outside noise of traffic but we are not used to it as we are from the countryside.
We stayed here sat 20th june. We loved it, great position 2 mins walk to train station. 5 minutes to the centre and 10mins walking to the barbican. It was truely a little gem of a place, we would definatly stay there again.
It was all brilliant 👏
Great location, very friendly staff!!! Beautiful garden.
Nothing
Kaikin tavoin ihana, kaunis, rauhallinen majoitus. Talon historia toi erityisen tunnelman, unohtumaton kokemus. Loistavat sängyt. Historian havinaa ja rauhaa. Lähellä juna-asemaa sekä mukavan kävelymatkan päässä keskustasta.
