Unfortunately because of the bad weather we could not stay at De Cango Farm. But they offered us to sleep in their hotel in town, which was VERY comfortable. Thank you for that.

We didn’t stay at De Cango farm since the road was washed away due to the severe storms in the area. The hosts communicated clearly & timely about this and offered us a refund or to rebook us to Pictures Guesthouse in the center. We opted for this option and had the loveliest stay with Eric at Pictures. Amazing room with a good shower and the best bed, nice fresh breakfast, secure parking and good location in town. The swimming pool & garden area were lovely as well.
The location was wonderful and our doggo loved it. It is quiet and far away from the everyday city noises and traffic. We unfortunately didn't see any of the animals whilst there the weekend. Rooms are cozy but they need attention for all the small broken things.
The pots, pans and cutlery were all dirty. Nit properly washed after whoever used them last in the communal area. The bathroom light was broken in the one cabin and the person working there had the weekend off. There was no wood supplied to any of the 4 cabins we booked as stated. It wasn't very clean overall. Just a lot of general maintenance needed at the main place and in the rooms, and a good clean will go a long way.
Seclusion and tranquility of the place. The gravel road is approximately 5 km, not 15km as per instructions shared by the venue, which is a good thing. Grab supplies before going there so you dont have to go to town once checked in.
Headboard had some stains. Some humps on the road leading to the units are to high for standard cars. It was difficult to clear them without scrapping the car
Beautiful cottages, exquisite setting. I would highly recommend this for families or groups of friends travelling together. The style and layout are conducive to this. It was great value for money and beautifully done.
There is no soundproofing between the two cottages, so you can hear everything in the next-door cottage. If you're with friends, it's not an issue, but if you were next to strangers, it could be uncomfortable.
De Cango is perfect for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the unique landscape of the Klein Karoo. Whether you're there to visit the nearby Cango Caves or just want to sit on a private deck and watch the ostriches, it’s a tranquil and well-maintained retreat that is "good for the soul."
Off. The grid locatie, paradise! Eigen braai, super lieve host Nonkie.
Nada.
We loved this place. The room was incredibly nice. It was a cold night and they already lighted the fireplace for us. The outside shower was great and the bed comfortable. Staff very friendly. The 5 k unsealed road is a bit bumpy and it’s better to lower your tire pressure a bit. But it’s good and you don’t need a 4x4.

On the website, it looked fine.
The long rough dirt road Electricity went out for the entire night at approximately 9pm NO BACKUP-no candles, no kerosene lamps Unable to call for help due to no phone service NO hot water for a bath after a long drive-hot water at 7am when we were leaving
Peaceful and beautiful
Conclusie niemand gezien, enkel beperkt Whats-App conversatie.
Beautiful mix between modern and rustic country vibe. Very clean and spacious. Stunning views.
The road to get there.
The 4.6km gravel road to De Cango Farm feels like an hour's drive. However once you get there, you forget about the road and just in awe of being in the middle of nature. There was only another couple staying there that weekend and we only saw them once in passing. It felt private and intimate and exactly what we wanted. That was good for us, as we were provided with the room next to us' key so that we could use that kitchen (as our room did not have a kitchen, which was a bit weird - but don't mind it, as the view and deck made up for that. We only saw one staff member - the guy who opened up for us and who assisted us with additional wood. Very friendly and helpful. It can feel a bit like you are forgotten about - as no-one else was seen otherwise. Which is not necessarily a bad thing!! Very private If you go in summer, be prepared - it's really hot! Our room did have a 2 small fans which helped. I'd certainly go there again if I need to take a break and get away from everything!
It would have been nice to be contacted by the staff just to check in and find out if we needed anything. Not that we did (except the extra braaiwood), but as you are so secluded, you can really feel alone. Just a nice touch if someone made contact to ask how everything was so that we know we are 'supported' and there is someone if we needed anything.
The accommodation was beautiful and romantic. The size of the room was spacious and we had a lovely view of animals using the watering hole from room 4. The kitchenette was great if you didn't want to go to the main kitchen, and we were able to use it with the braii outside. There were tea, coffee and single serving UHT milk cartons, and bubble bath for the stand alone bathtub that had a private view to part of the night sky. For stargazers, the reception area has a stunning view of the Milky way. Karoo is very dark at night and should definitely be advertised as a perfect place to see it. They ought to get a telescope as I am sure that would be very popular. There is a projecter and CD player in the communal area, but as wifi is limited and mobile reception is very bad, it is a perfect place to digitally detox. Staff were very keen to help and friendly.
Not enough information about the lack of amenities, such as no grocery stores nearby and no food available to buy on site. It's a 35-40 minute drive to Oudtshoorn for the closest shops, and part of that is on quite a rough terrain road, more suited to 4x4s. We would have had difficulty if we had been in a normal car. If you come prepared it will be perfect.
It is a hidden gem. If you want to get away from the noise, this is the place. Absolute Karoo bliss. The communal kitchen with all the amenities and the history of the place makes it nostalgic and feels like home. Nonkie was very helpful, and friendly. Thank you for a great stay!
Love that we were surrounded by nature. Lovely views, cozy cabins, and some peace.
Everything was great.
Smaakvol ingericht!
Lovely place we had the whole place to ourselves.
Love the fact that our deck gave us ring side seats to some local wildlife - sitting there was beautifully peaceful. The room was also nicely styled.
Didn’t love the very long gravel road to the property - we did wonder where on earth we’d committed to staying when we first arrived! You do get used to it but it is a long way to shops and restaurants so be prepared to be completely self sufficient.
Virkelig charmende sted!
Space. View of the animals. Loved the communal space, felt like a home and a farm. Loved the cd player! We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves which felt very special.
Warn people of the bumpy track in to the property as this took quite a while to navigate, if people are in a smaller car it could be more difficult and in the rain would be problematic.
Everything perfect
Better hire an SUV to come here, the road is not easy to drive.
The shared main building is beautifully styled like an old farmhouse and immediately feels warm and cozy. There are board games, CDs, and video tapes available, which makes it easy to relax and spend time there. We stayed in cottage number 4 and had a lovely view with animals such as ostriches right outside, which was a great experience.
In January, the lake is almost dried up due to the sun, so it looks quite different from the photos – something to be aware of when booking. The bedroom, which is located in a separate cottage, does not have air conditioning but a fan. Fortunately, it cooled down nicely in the evening, and by opening everything up we still had a very good night’s sleep.
Amazing place to relax! From the room you can spot a lot of animals, the facilities are great and the staff very helpfull!
We had a good time, lovely location
The place didn't look like the photos, It needs to be updated
I loved everything. The facilities was exceptional. There was nothing that was missing in the entertainment area. Rooms were clean and spacious. Will definitely be coming back.
There was nothing I did not like
Brilliant value for money. Everything we needed, didn't miss anything. The huge bathtub and outside shower were the best. Private and secluded, could lay in bed or sit on the stoep and the wild animals come all the way to us. Would 100% visit again. Nonkie (staff member who assisted us) is extremely helpful and so kind. He really made us feel at home.
The gravel road in is a bit longer than expected but nothing too serious.
Host was amazing and accommodating, room was great! Just such a beautiful venue. Wish we stayed for longer.
There is a 5km dirt road.... at night someone had thrown wire in the road and it got stuck under my car, so just be careful at travelling at night
Happy to see you again.
Sehr freundlicher Gastgeber, tolle Farm.
De Cango Farm was one of the best accommodations we stayed at during our trip through South Africa. We truly wished we could have spent more time there. We loved the peaceful, secluded location. Both the common area and our room were well equipped and decorated with great attention to detail. We would especially like to highlight Nonki, the Lodge Manager, who was incredibly welcoming and attentive.
The animals, but I was expecting us to be able to do a game drive in our own vehicle, as suggested on certain sites. The rooms were also lovely equipped and comfortable.
Our trash was never cleaned outside our room and there are hundreds of mice. I think the owners can definitely do better in making sure that the trash bins outside the rooms are clean, which can also help with the mice infestation. This might not be a problem for people staying for 1 night, but we stayed for 4...meaning that we had 3 nights and days worth of trash piling up infront of our room. It was upsetting to drive through the area in between DE Kombuys and De Cango farm. I do not know if it's the farm workers who stay in the little settlements in that area, but if so I think that better food and housing can be provided to them. It is terrible to see hungry children and animals for about 15 minutes constantly every time we need to drive into town. The dam was also empty so the fishing and kayaking that was advertised were not possible. Also to have so many carp in a shallow lake is just cruel to the fish.
Amazing room, beautiful place with a big common area. Full equipped kitchen. I loved the open shower outside and the bathtub. The location is outside the city, very calm and relaxing. It was one of the best places to stay in south Africa.
Nothing
The place was peaceful and the privacy was the chert on top for me, Nonkie was amazing as the receptionist. The outside shower the highlight for me while my partner was in love with the bath. Perfect for romantic couples trip
I personally underestimated the 30km outside town and the 5km of gravel road but it was worth every km But mostly the bed was not comfortable for us but not a train smash
The location is exceptional. The tents are super well equipped and the welcome by the staff was excellent
Nothing
Extremely comfortable cabin among roaming Springbok and ostrich. Larger groups could have a lovely time together next to the water and communal areas
Quite a long drive from town
Loved that everybody had their own space and also communal space. So many things to do and areas to relax! Truly amazing!
I can’t think if anything that I did not like!
It is a charming property, far from the civilized world. A part from the quiet and beauty of the place we really appreciated Nonki’s kindness. You can watch wild animals from your bed and feel completely one with nature.
De Cango Farm was such a hidden gem! Peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by animals. We had ostriches, springboks, and even water buffalo right outside our door. It felt like a proper escape from everything. Definitely a great place to come with friends to braai and fish (bring your own gear!)
The only tricky part was the gravel road (about 3.5km), so take it slow if you have a smaller car. But once you arrive, it’s 100% worth it! The people and kids along the way were so friendly and helpful.
We loved the peace and quiet of the place, and also that we could open our blinds and see all the wildlife from our bed. We also love Nonkie! He was very helpful and the nicest person.
N/A
Zeer speciaal. You love it or you hate it.
I love everything about the property , the design The interior was to my expectation
Nothing really because it was exactly what I was looking for.
View and silence Clean beautiful room Nonkie very friendly
The dirt road is a bit bumpy but the location is absolutely worth it. The manager is super helpful and organised. We loved heating with the wood-fired oven and having a bath in the extra large tub.
Great place to relax and enjoy the quietness. With only four chalets it felt very quiet and peaceful. The chalet was clean, beds are comfortable and the main house where you can cook etc was clean and tidy. We only stayed one night as we were travelling through. We had a wonderful dinner at De Kombuys, make sure to book or call as they normally only serve in house guest
It Is pretty but not too many actives to do
No WiFi signal there
Beautiful place close to Cango Caves. Rooms are lovely and the staff very friendly. The shared are is amazing, we used it even we did not need it just because!
Only suggestion: a heater. The wood ends fast at night and the place was quite cold in the early morning.
So peaceful!
Quel romantisme ❤️
Rien
Had everything we needed a very relaxed stay, great staff, thank you will definitely come again!
La nature environnante
I liked the style of the place, the quietness. Good get away..
The seclusion, private and intimate
Wow what a unique gem we uncovered. They thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. We enjoyed braaing every evening and lighting a fire in the fireplace at night. Property is so well kept and beautiful. We loved the main lodge too and enjoyed sundowners on the deck. We also loved the fact that we could play games and of course shared many laughs with 30 Seconds. We will be arranging a return trip with a group of friends. Nonkie was an absolute gem - so friendly and welcoming. This is a definite must stay! Thank you so much.
Lovely cabin on a farm.
Lovely stay at De Cango - dirt road to the farm for about 5KM, scenic views from cabin, serene, great if you want to get away from the noise of the city. No cell signal but has wifi, rooms and amenaties were comfortable and clean. Braai area outside each cabin with indoor fireplace especially useful during cold months. Communical kitchen has a gas stove plate, no microwave, kettle for boil on gas stove. Thank you for a serene and peaceful stay.
no microwave and no oven
Clean and quiet
The kitchen was a bit small. We did not like sharing the main kitchen with other guests. The shower on our unit was very small and very see through. It is on the pathway for everyone to see in.
