The Cabin Ella

Nice and clean room, awesome staff. It’s located directly over a cafe with amazing food.

The unique place to stay and have breakfast (from the menu) was already a success for us. On top of that, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive – we were even dropped off back in Ella free of charge by tuk-tuk. The room and bathroom were very clean, the shower had warm water, and the terrace was lovely!

A mosquito net above the bed would have been a nice addition.

Der Blick ist grandios. Das Frühstück, das man im Cafe unterhalb einnimmt, ist reichhaltig und lecker. Das Personal ist hilfsbereit. Weil es zuletzt einige negative Bewertungen gab, möchte ich davon einiges einordnen: - wir haben keine Ratten gesehen. Vielmehr gibt es in dieser Gegend viele kleine Eichhörnchen (squirrels), die sich so anhören können, wenn sie über das Dach klettern. Und wenn man die Balkontür unbeabsichtigt offen lässt, kann mal eines reinschlüpfen. Also Balkontüre schließen, wenn man nicht da ist - im Cafe unterhalb läuft Musik, aber das Café schließt um 18:30 Uhr, nachts ist es sehr ruhig - es gibt 2 Hütten: die obere (in der wir waren) hat einen Balkon aus Holz. Die untere hat eine Terrasse aus Beton, wo zukünftig wohl noch gebaut wird. Dafür ist diese größer. - der Blick ist grandios, dafür ist es abgelegen. Am besten vor der Anreise die Unterkunft kontaktieren und um Unterstützung bei der Anreise bitten.

Der Eingangsbereich vor der Hütte ist lieblos und man bekommt im ersten Moment den Gedanken "wo bin ich hier gelandet?" Das könnte man leicht aufwerten. Stört aber dann in der Hütte nicht mehr. Die Hütte selbst ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und könnte ein paar kleinere Ausbesserungen gebrauchen. Die Türen klemmen etwas, am Balkon müssten 2 Dielen getauscht werden. Alles nicht dramatisch, aber mal wieder Zeit etwas zu tun.

We enjoyed our stay at Cabin Ella. What really makes it great is the smiles from all the staff. Down below is a café, and the staff can always assist you with all the things you need to handle. Also, the view from the cabin is awesome. Would recommend.

They are turning a couple of cabins into a bar, so the balcony was huge, but the wood details were gone. Although we really enjoy looking at the train.

Amazing views of Nine Arch Bridge

Had to get a tuk tuk in from main road. Could get a bit dangerous during the night as there are no lights

Staff was nice. We were a bit confused that need to walk for some while to get there and carry our bags. Quite steep way to get there. The rooms have an amazing view, but they are very.. sketchy. Thinly built. You can hear every single person walking by. During the night we had to leave the place because we had a rat in the room. Reception helped us to get to the new hotel, they were nice and friendly.

Posizione ottima con vista che non ha prezzo. Staff accogliente e disponibile. Abbiamo fatto colazione e pranzo al caffè della struttura, tutto ottimo.

Fantastisch uitzicht en heel gezellig dat er een café onder zit. Het café sluit vroeg, dus daar heb je geen last van ‘s avonds.

Lo staff molto gentile e disponibile, colazione buona e abbondante, la struttura è spartana ma non è così male. Alloggiare a Cabin Ella ci ha permesso di accedere al famoso ponte ( vi consiglio di visitarlo direttamente da li , senza farvi tutta la camminata) e se volete fare delle foto senza gente, dalle 6 alle 7.30 non trovate nessuno.

La strada per arrivare è in mezzo al nulla, ma l'hotel provvede tuktuk per accompagnarvi al centro di Ella.

Beautiful view from the terrace. Amazing breakfast. Very helpful staff that can drop you to some places with tuktuk.

Getting to the place can be a little bit tricky because google maps can show the worst way possible.

This apartment is all about the amazing view – it’s truly breathtaking! The room standard was exactly as described – cabin-style, cozy and functional. I highly recommend staying here for the view alone – it’s totally worth it!

Great view, sweet and helpful people working there

The basic hygiene was simply not good enough: there was a mouse or squirrel inside the cabin, running around, and animal shit in the sunk. Furthermore, there were a lot of ants and the wifi did not work anywhere on the premise. The aircondition also was not effective. The locks did not work well either; so doors had a difficult time closing. Location was far from the city and difficult to get to, but close to the 9 arches bridge.

It was such a disappointment to arrive there and realised the room and balcony are not as per the pictures. The balcony is a big peace of concrete that is part of an unfinished renovation. No hot water running. Room needs a lot of maintenance: lights, hot water and fridge not working. Water running in the bathroom.

The views are nice, located just in front of the nine arch bridge.

- The accommodation is not as per the pictures at all. The balcony is a peace of concrete with metal construction rods everywhere, it’s basically a construction that was never finished. Very unsafe. Nothing to see with the nice timber balcony you see in the pictures. - “The Cabin Ella” is not the real name of the accommodation, instead it’s called “New Cabin Ella”. That make it very difficult to find in the map. - You can’t arrive to the place by car or tuk tuk, instead you have to walk through the bush and stone stairs to arrive. If you have heavy luggage that will be a pain. - Half of the lights does not work. The thermos for hot water does not work. No hot showers. - It has a bar downstairs that is noisy, if you are expecting to get some relaxing time the bar will make it very difficult. - There is no hotel manager, the waiters at the bar downstairs are managing that but they say they are not responsible for anything. They never reply to the messages in booking.com. We told them this is not what is shown in the pictures, this is not what we paid for and the staff said pictures are old and it used to be double price so we are very lucky we got it for good price (really?!). This accommodation uses false advertising.

Prachtige locatie, ontzettend vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel, goed ontbijt!

Onze kamer had niet het balkon zoals op de foto’s en geen airco. Wel ventilator en dakterras.

Staff was not at all accessible and also the commute was very difficult and I had to call them 10-12 times to get an auto to climb up the main road and I got late for my train.

Je slaapt in een houten hutje met een prachtig uitzicht. Het verblijf is lastig te vinden, maar het personeel wil je graag helpen. Ze zijn erg behulpzaam. Daarnaast willen ze jou gratis in het centrum brengen. Het ontbijt is ook super. Kortom een geweldig verblijf!!!

Ik vond het persoonlijk niet prettig dat het niet aan een doorgaande weg lag en erg afgelegen was. Je moest 5 minuten over een smal weggetje in de bergen rijden met een tuctuc om er te komen. Als je dit niet erg vindt is de locatie geweldig. Voel je je hier niet fijn bij, zou ik het niet doen. Ook is het een erg gehorig huisje.

Dit was onze fijnste accomodatie in heel Sri Lanka. Het uitzicht vanaf de accomodatie is heel mooi. Alles was schoon. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk. Ontbijt op het balkon was zelfs mogelijk

De locatie is perfect! Het is vanaf de weg (auto’s kunnen er niet komen) een flink stuk maar ze halen je op met de tuktuk. De mannen van het bijbehorende café zorgen erg goed voor je, vervoer en eten regelen ze allemaal. Wij raden dit zeker iedereen aan. Om op de brug te komen is het alleen de trap naar beneden. Je zit echt eerste rang!

Alles beviel ons goed en je weet dat je niet in een luxe hotel zit. Houd alleen rekening met dieren om en (insecten) in je huisje.

The location was amazing. We had a great view of the nine arches bridge from our balcony & took many pics of the bridge & trains going over it. The staff were super helpful and breakfast was so delicious. They made a great espresso coffee which we found hard to find in Sri Lanka.

This is not a dislike but just a note. The property is close to the bridge so the road is only accessible by tuk tuk or scooter. The hotel will send a tuk tuk for you when you arrive. It is a steep, narrow road and at the end it does involve a short steep walk and some large concrete steps. Wear comfortable walking shoes!

De gastvrijheid en hulpvaardigheid van de uitbaters is echt uitmuntend. Niets is te veel en zelfs wanneer je niet meer bij hen verblijft, willen ze je nog helpen. Bovenop de prachtige locatie, is dit voor ons een reden om terug te komen. Het ontbijt was zeer goed: wij kozen voor de pancakes en crêpes. Alles wordt vers bereid en is erg lekker.

Voor ons stoorde het niet maar misschien is dit voor anderen wel belangrijk: het verblijf is niet toegankelijk met de wagen. Je hebt een tuktuk nodig maar de uitbaters helpen je met je bagage. Beneden is het gezellige café Soul waar je kan genieten van een lekker drankje, eten of uitzicht. Als je erboven slaapt, hoor je ‘s ochtends hoe de dag op gang komt. Voor ons nodigde dit heel hard uit om te gaan ontbijten, voor langere slapers is dit misschien minder aan de orde.

Mooie plek, met prachtig uitzicht. Kamer heeft alles wat je nodig hebt. 1 met airco , 1 met waaier. Je kan er niet met de auto komen, maar ze regelen tuk tuks voor je. Ze ontvangen je hartelijk op hun terras met een drankje. Het ontbijt was echt subliem, Je mag alles kiezen van de kaart. En er is ruime keus. Gezellige sfeer hangt er en al het personeel is even attent, vriendelijk en vrolijk! Niets is teveel! Je kunt vanaf de cabin zo naar de Nine arch brug lopen.

Die Unterkunft hat eine atemberaubende Aussicht! Absoluter Wahnsinn! Man ist gleich an der Nine Arch Bridge und kann auch direkt durch ein paar Stufen hinuntergehen und steht direkt auf der Brücke. Das Zimmer war sauber, Badezimmer auch sauber, man hat alles was man braucht!

Die Unterkunft ist nur mit einem TukTuk erreichbar. Mit einem Auto kommt man leider nicht hin und man muss ein ganzes Stück gehen. Es geht steil bergauf/bergab.

La habitación fue exacta a la de la foto. Es increíble el sitio! Una pasada encontrarte en medio de la naturaleza. El personal es muy atento, muy amable y siempre educados. Son unos cracks! Y Dubidoo el mejor chofer de tuktuk.

Lo único malo, que no entran coches, pero bueno els servicio de tuktuk siempre te llevan gratis, nosotros dábamos algo de propina.

Ik heb een aantal dingen Geen airco Meerdere keren in de nacht maar ook overdag eekhoorn op de kamer gehad we hadden hierdoor erg slecht geslapen want ze lopen IN JE KAMER GEWOON! En je kan er niks tegen doen want ze komen via alle gaten in de muren binnen afwerking was erg slecht alles is scheef er zitten grote gaten in het dak waardoor allerlei dieren kunnen binnenkomen makkelijk. En de prijs is echt veelste duur voor wat je krijgt dus niet heen gaan als je dat uitzicht wilt boek een ander hotel deze moet je vermijden.

Traumhafter Ausblick! Mitten in den hills- richtig premium! Weit weg vom Trubel in Ella. Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich. Und die Anreise mit dem tuktuk ist sehr aufregend und lustig

Otelin manzarası büyüleyiciydi köprüye en yakın otel kesinlikle burası. Kahvaltı dahildi ve standart bir kahvaltı yoktu normal menüden istediğinizi seçebiliyorsunuz ve hepsi lezzetliydi.. Ella da konaklamak isteyenler mutlaka güleryüzlü personelle dolu bu oteli ziyaret etmeli..

The view of the 9 arch bridge and the trains were great. Watching nature from the balcony was awesome. The staff were very helpful and easy to contact. Balcony is probably one of the best insta spots for the bridge.

Nothing there at all. My money would have been better spent staying elsewhere and just coming to check the train/bridge out via cab.

Вид просто роскошный! Для этого расположения здесь отличные удобства - кондиционер, море горячей воды, удобная кровать. Отсюда и цена. Нужно быть готовым пройти немного с вещами, об этом честно и сразу предупреждают, так что здесь без проблем

Когда платишь такие большие для Шри-Ланки деньги, то вправе рассчитывать на соответствующий уровень. Здесь этого нет. Никто не предупредил что в этом же здании идёт ремонт, причём эти не очень умные люди ведут очень шумные ремонтные работы (режут арматуру электро пилой например) даже поздним вечером. Я несколько раз просил прекратить это и только в 23 часа они остановились. Хочется лежать и наслаждаться шумом ночных джунглей, а не находиться на стройке. У нас был выезд утром, мы попросили подать завтрак в 7-45, а не в 8-00. Мало того, что в 7-45 этого не сделали (в принципе они не обязаны, но отель был пустой и можно было бы пойти навстречу), но этого не сделали и в 8-15. Персонал расслабленный и ленивый.

Gostámos de tudo. O quarto era incrível, extremamente acolhedor e com uma vista extraordinária sobre a Ponte. Conseguíamos ver a totalidade da ponte e vimos 5 vezes o famoso comboio a passar. Foi uma experiência única, maravilhosa e inesquecível. Ficámos apenas uma noite, infelizmente, porque adorariamos ter ficado mais tempo, mas já tínhamos outra reserva. Nuwan é mesmo muito simpático e atencioso. Recomendo a todos a experiência. Se forem a Ella, recomendo-vos este alojamento. Outra coisa a notar, de positivo, é que oferecem serviço de tuktuk gratuito da casa até à vila e vice-versa, o que também é fantástico, prático e facilitou imenso a nossa vida. O pequeno-almoço era verdadeiramente delicioso. Adorámos tudo.

Cute cabin with an amazing view of the Nine Arch Bridge!! I don’t think you can ask for a better view, it’s also a 5-min walk from the bridge, so a perfect distance if you want to reach it in the early morning to beat the crowds. Nuwan was very welcoming, breakfast was great, and he kept our bags safe while we went on a hike. We only stayed one night but we highly recommend!

Het uitzicht is geweldig! Het huisje is erg mooi en comfortabel met de beste douche die wij hebben meegemaakt in Sri Lanka tot nu toe.

Het is wat lastiger om er te komen. Het hotel biedt wel een gratis tuktuk service aan van de weg naar het hotel! Hierdoor is het primaaa te doen!

Super mooie cabin, met uitzicht op de bekende brug alleen de weg ernaartoe is niet heel praktisch. Al werd dit opgelost omdat het personeel je rijdt naar het centrum met hun eigen tuk tuk. Personeel is echt mega vriendelijk en doen heel erg hun best om je verblijf zo comfortabel mogelijke maken.

L'emplacement de cet établissement est juste incroyable avec vue sur le Nine Arch Bridge. Moi qui ai du mal à dormir, ce n'est pas tellement le passage des trains qui m'a réveillé, mais plutôt les bruits ambiants autour, mais vraiment c'est assez léger. Le personnel est d'une gentillesse folle, nous avons bénéficié d'un service de tuktuk gratuitement pour aller en ville, pour aller au Little Adam's Peak, mais également ils nous appelé un taxi pour le trajet du lendemain. Nous avons eu le droit à un verre de bienvenue (car nous sommes allés à pieds à l'hébergement du centre ville de Ella.... prenez un tuktuk !). Le petit déjeuner est très bon, car vous choisissez directement sur leur carte. Nous avons également mangé un midi là bas, les plats étaient eux aussi délicieux. La chambre est plutôt spacieuse, très propre. Les lits commencent peut être à s'user mais ça va encore. Nous recommandons à 100% cet établissement.

The property was amazing and had the best views over 9 arch bridge. Not only that, the restaurant below had everything you could want so that you didn’t need to travel far! 10/10! Nuwan was also so kind and helpful and gave us a free tuk tuk ride into town when we wanted to go for dinner and drinks.

The only thing we didn’t like about the property was the gaps in the doors which let the mosquitos in. Definitely wear a lot of mosquito repellent if you are prone to getting bitten!

We absolutely loved our stay! I would say our room had the most stunning view of the Nine Arch Bridge – simply breathtaking. The terrace was huge, the room was clean and cozy, and the breakfast was delicious with a great variety to choose from. Special thanks to the staff – they were incredibly attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. It only took a few minutes to walk to the bridge, and they also offers a free tuk-tuk ride down to the town. The way back is not included, and it costs around 1000 rupees, although some drivers may try to charge 2000, so be aware of that. The hotel café offers a wide selection of tasty food and drinks at great prices. The room rate was also very reasonable – honestly, for the quality and the amazing view, we think it could cost even more. Don’t hesitate to book this room and hotel – it’s definitely worth it!

The host! We only had 18 hours in Ella and he made the trip incredibly memorable. We had a tuktuk which I was worried about parking, he came to pick us up and dropped us off after check-out. He drove us to Little Adam’s Peak and gave us advice on when to see the trains over the bridge, and also gave us the most incredible breakfast before leaving. The location in Ella doesn’t get better than this - if you are inside and hear the train horn you can run outside and catch a video in time. Definitely recommend!

Nothing, perfect stay

Hotel New Cabin is a fantastic place with a beautiful view of the Nine Arch Bridge. From the balcony you have a beautiful view! The staff is very helpful and friendly. Nuwan even dropped us off in the city a few times with the Tuktuk. Completely free of charge. From the main road it is a 10 minute walk to the hotel. The breakfast was delicious. We could order what we wanted from the menu in the restaurant under the hotel. The coffee and smoothies were particularly good!

The location is perfect to access the nine arch bridge! The access to the property itself is very hard and we had our own Tuktuk so needed assistance to park and leave the premises, the boys were so helpful with this driving it out. It was pouring with rain but they also helped with bags! They went above and beyond and always with a smile!! Such a great team.

la gentillesse du personnel, la proximité du Nine Arch et la vue, tout était incroyable ! Lors de notre départ à 6h du matin, ils nous ont gentillement préparé le petit-déjeuner pour la route. Une tempête a éclaté le soir et ils nous ont proposé d'aller eux nous chercher à souper car le restaurant était fermé vraiment adorable comme attention. Nous avions notre propre Tuktuk est l'accès à l'hébergement est tellement raide est étroit que nous avons gentiment demandé de nous le remonter sur la rue principal et ils l'ont fait sans hésiter. Petit conseil: si vous aller avec votre tuktuk ne fait pas la route c'est un enfer, il y a énormément de passage et la route est très très raide et étroite, entre éviter les gens, le croisement des autres tuktuk, ce n'est vraiment pas un bon moment a passer. Demander leur ils viendront vous cherchez ça vous évitera un stress inutile

Perfect uitzicht op de brug! Het personeel stond altijd voor je klaar en het ontbijt was echt super!

Die Lage der Unterkunft ist einfach ein Traum. Man hat eine wunderschöne unterbaute Sicht auf die Brücke. Das Erinnerungsfoto ist definitiv atemberaubend wenn man in der Früh auf die Menschenleere Brücke blickt. Das Personal ist ebenfalls super freundlich, TukTuk Abholung um auf den steilen Gassen zum Hotel zu kommen, Frühstück und jede Menge Foto Tipps zur Brücke.

Colazione buona, posizione ottima

Struttura fatiscente e pericolosa per presenza di ferri arrugginiti in terrazzo e buchi nel pavimento della camera e nel terrazzo.

Uitzicht is fantastisch. De jongens die het uitbaten zijn echt waanzinnig. Niets is te gek, ze regelen alles voor je, aangepast eten, tuk tuk gratis naar Ella. Wil je nog wat water, wc papier etc, je hoefde het maar te zeggen en het werd voor je gedaan. Super vriendelijk. Locatie zelf is alleen met Tuktuk te bereiken, steile en smalle toegangsweg. Jongens sjouwen je koffer het laatste stuk voor je. Ook taxi (auto) naar ons volgende verblijf is super geregeld, doordat het een hele nette jongen was, die rustig reed, een schone auto had, goeie prijs rekende en altijd ruim op tijd op afspraak er was, werd dit voor ons laatste 1,5 week onze vaste chauffeur.

Vue magnifique sur le nine arches. C'est génial de voir passer le train du balcon de la chambre. Le personnel est adorable. Service de tuk-tuk gratuit pour venir vous chercher et vous amener à l'hôtel ou encore vous emmener jusque dans le centre ville. Le petit-déjeuner est excellent et la vue, là encore, est superbe. Chambre propre et confortable. Je recommande.

La préparation du petit-déjeuner qui est un peu longue mais cela n'a pas gâché notre séjour.

Excelente la vista y la amabilidad constante de MUAN. A mejorar olor en el baño y considero un poco caro.

Stay away!

We had animals in our room, so we didn’t have any sleep. The cabin had holes in the floor and definitely not worth the price. We asked to check out one day earlier because of the bad conditions, and to get a discount because of it, but the owner is not very service minded and forced us to pay the full amount. The owner kept saying that the animals are there because it’s a cabin in the jungle - very bad excuse. We had old towels with holes, and a very bad smell from the bathroom. Also the room we stayed in was right above the cafe and therefore VERY noisy as they play loud music from morning to 20:00o’clock. Not a very easy road to the place, very steep and long and no cars can enter, only tuktuk.

Außergewöhnlicher Ausblick auf die Nine Arches Bridge & sehr zuvorkommende Mitarbeiter. Wir wurden zweimal kostenlos per Tuk-Tuk in das Zentrum von Ella gebracht.

Es gibt nicht viel auszusetzen. Aufgrund der Lage mitten in der Natur, sollte man keine Probleme mit Tieren & leichten Gerüchen im Bad haben.

We liked the view on The Nine Arches Bridge. The staff was also very friendly, explained where everything was in the cabin and how it works. They were very helpful, gave us a free lift to the city center and arranged a transport from Ella to Dikwella. Breakfast at Soul Cafe was delicious m, especially coconut pancakes.

The cabin walls are paper thin, the front door doesn’t close properly, leaving an opening for animals to come in, there were holes in the wall and there was an animal (most likely a squirrel) coming from the wall into the room and making noise that was pretty scary at night. There was a very unpleasant odour in the bathroom. The cabin is in a very secluded location (which you don’t know until you come there), only accessible by a tuktuk, so it’s not very easy to find a driver to take you there.

The room itself and the view

I understood we payed for the view and it was good Access was bad it came as a complete surprise If we were warned we would have been prepared It was raining heavily we were frightened about flooding and been able to get out early the next morning We had no option but to leave and find another accomodation We understood we had to pay as it was our choice to leave

Our stay at the cabin was fantastic, the room was spacious and clean, and the view over the 9 arch bridge was amazing. Nuwan is a really a really friendly and helpful guy, and was there to give us lifts down to the town anytime we wanted, We would highly recommend The Cabin if you want the true Sri Lankan experience, we unmatched views.

Best view of the nine arch bridge from the room. Great homestay, one of the most attentive families on our trip. They also own the best local restaurant in the area, you can watch the trains from the terrace and they serve a huge breakfast. They always offer a free tuktuk ride to Ella town, but you have to pay for the one getting back from town. We would totally recommend the accommodation, area gets really quiet in the evening and early morning when the tourists leave.

They are currently renovating the home stay so the wooden balcony (as seen on the photos) was exchanged for a larger terrace. So not 100% like the pictures, but the views are still very nice and the kindness of the host family more than makes up for it. The road to accommodation is a bit steep and narrow, only accessible by tuktuk (no cars) and you have to walk the last 50 meters on the hill (hosts can help with baggage). It was a good adventure for us backpackers, but it could be harder for people traveling with a car/big luggage/mobility issues.

Het uitzicht is fantastisch & het personeel is heel behulpzaam. Nuwen brengt je gratis naar het dorp & regelt een tuk tuk die je vanuit Ella weer naar de cabin brengt.

De eekhoorn timmert regelmatig op het dak, we noemden hem “Tim de Timmerman”. De eerste trein komt om 06.20u, een goede wekker elke ochtend!

The property is described as a tranquil retreat- this it is not! During the day any natural sounds are drowned out by thumping music from restaurant directly below the cabin. The cabin itself is adequate, but not deluxe, as promised. Overpriced!
