The room was not properly cleaned and quite old. We used laundry service but this was very expensive! Location is a bit far from Ella center.

Cleaning staff are very hard workers

We booked the chalet room but had booked for 1 person by mistake instead of 3 — this meant our room had already been given away by the time we checked in, as they assumed we were traveling solo. It was eventually resolved with separate rooms, but check-in felt tense and uncomfortable, and we picked up an odd, unwelcoming vibe that seemed to come from ownership/management level rather than the staff, who were generally polite and doing their best. The property itself doesn't match the photos on the booking site it needs real investment to bring it up to standard. Food was average. We used the bar and restaurant regularly throughout our stay as loyal guests, but at no point was there any gesture of goodwill or service recovery after the mix-up, which was disappointing. There was a judgmental energy from management that made us feel unwelcome for reasons I'd rather not go into, but it was enough to sour the stay. If you're after a laid-back backpacker-style stay, it might work for you, but I wouldn't go in with high expectations based on the listing photos.

Lage: Wer überlegt, ob Stadt da zentral vs. Natur da schöner, aber weit abgelegen dem sei gesagt: kommt hier her! Der Ausblick und die Atmosphäre waren toll. Beim Sonnenaufgang habe ich meinen ersten freilebenden Affen im Baum sitzen sehen! In Ella (Stadt) verpasst man unserer Ansicht nichts, was man nicht an einem Nachmittag machen kann. Es gibt in der selben Straße weiter vorne und hinten auch andere Lokalitäten, die fußläufig zu erreichen sind. Transport: Ein Tuktuk-Fahrer Cousin steht günstig für jeglichen Transport ggf. auch über Stunden bereit. Das Hotel regelt alles im Hand umdrehen. Als wir in Ella waren und zurück wollten, haben wir dem Hotel einfach per WhatsApp geschrieben und die haben ihren Cousin losgeschickt. Aktivitäten: Wir haben an einem Nachmittag entspannt per Tuktuk erst den Tempel, dann Teeplantage mit Teeplückerei und dann einen Wasserfall besucht. Das Tuktuk hat immer auf uns gewartet! Man kann super über die Gleise laufen Wir sind eine Station den berühmten Zug gefahren. Essen/Getränke: Fürs Urlaubsfeeling war es außerdem schön, dass man auch mal ein Bier oder Cocktails trinken konnte - das gibt es nicht überall - vorallem in den umliegenden Restaurants. Da alles weit offen ist, durfte man auf der Terrasse auch rauchen. Die Preise sind super fair und die Karte groß. Frühstück angenehme Mischung zwischen europäisch und Sri Lankisch. Atmosphäre: Es war jeden Abend mal andere Hintergrundmusik und einmal ein bisschen Karaoke. Es gab Leute, war aber auch nicht überlaufen. Wir haben mitbekommen, dass andere Reisende aus der unmittelbaren Nähe hierher kommen, um einen schönen Abend zu verbringen, Karten zu spielen oder einfach zu genießen. Personal: Das Pesonal ist ganz freundlich und einmal saßen wir bis nachts um 1 Uhr auf der Terrasse (wir haben die Zeit vergessen) und sie haben auf uns gewartet! Auch durften wir nach unserem Check out unser Gepäck dort lassen, wandern gehen, zurück kommen uns umziehen und auf unseren Fahrer warten.

Das ist eher Kritik an anderen Gästen die morgens laut redend die Teppen hochgehen und vergessen, dass um sie herum noch Leute in den Zimmern schlafen könnten. Einmal gab es ein Mädchen, dass alles zusammen geschrien hat, weil sie sich erschreckt hat (ok das passiert) aber spätestens da, hätten die Eltern auf die Idee kommen können, dass das andere stören könnte, wenn sie das auf der Treppe neben einem ausdiskutierrn. Vielleicht könnte das Personal jene Personen, die an vielen Zimmern lang müssen, beim Einchecken daran erinnern, etwas Rücksicht zu nehmen. Die Badezimmertür war sehr laut quietschig (Kleinigkeit also) Unsere Bettdecke hatte an einer Stelle kleine Flecken. Punktuell als wäre beige Schminke draufgetropft und ginge nicht mehr rauszuwaschen. Das stört nicht, da es nichts unreines war !! Es gibt ja verschiedene Arten von Flecken, aber es bleibt ein sichtbarer Fleck. Das Restaurant hatte am letzten Abend aus berechtigten Gründen unvermittelt zu: das passiert. Aber es wäre - wenn man eh gerade in WhatsApp-Kontakt steht - eine kleine Vorwarnung nicht schlecht gewesen, bevor man zurück kommt. Falls also vorher bekannt, gerne vörwarnen, sodass man sich anderweitig organisiert. Keine negative Kritik eher Beobachtung: Manchmal muss man etwa Geduld beim Bestellen mitbringen. Mein Mann hätte ab und an gerne noch ein Dessert gegessen oder noch was bestellt, aber es kam niemand mehr und bis es soweit war, war der Hunger/Durst weg. Was uns wunderte, denn man sollte ja meinen, dass sie gerade durch Getränke auch einen guten Umsatz machen... Aber das war an manch anderen Orten auch so, also vielleicht ist es einfach etwas kulturelles? Später haben wir angefangen direkt unten nachzufragen, wenn wir noch etwas wollten. :)

Perfect view in particular for sunrise

Wow you can’t deny this hotel has amazing views! We loved waking up to this view from our balcony. Definitely get a mountain view room. Our 2 bedroom chalet I think they called it was not interconnected but two separate bedrooms next to each other but as my kids are older it was fine. The room was lovely and light with light tiled floor. We had no hot water the first day but this waa quickly fixed. We saw the rooms above us had really dark carpet that I would not have liked. The staff were all so friendly helping us with tut tuts and how to walk to Ellas Rock from the hotel. We didn’t mind being 5 mins tut tut outside the town for the stunning views. We loved the restaurant view with a drink and playing pool. Had one dinner there which was good then went to town the otherr at the Chill Bar which was good. They arranged an all day tut tut at a great price to see the 9 arch bridge train go by then to the zipline and Little Adams Peak and Ravana pool which was a lovely day. Definitely want to get to Asankas cafe by 9am for the best high view of the train go by. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The drinks service was ever so slow. The poor guy needs a helper at busy times.

Een van de beste verblijfplaatsen van onze reis. Prachtig zicht op de vallei en Ella rock vanuit onze kamer!!! Schitterend restaurant: de chicken pineapple salad was heerlijk, alle andere gerechten ook. Het hotel is gebouwd op een rots en dat originele element werd behouden, de muur in de gang was rots, geweldig origineel.

Alhoewel dit naar westerse normen nog meeviel was dit hotel wel het duurste van onze reis. Maar je krijgt er ook wel waarde voor je geld.

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt im Shining Green View in Ella sehr genossen! Besonders beeindruckend ist der mega Ausblick über die grüne Landschaft – einfach wunderschön. Das Frühstück war lecker und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Ein besonderes Highlight war die kleine Affenbande, die in den Bäumen vor unserem Balkon unterwegs war und sogar bis auf den Balkon kam – ein echtes Erlebnis! Ella ist zu Fuß über Treppen und ein Stück entlang der Bahnschienen in etwa 40 Minuten erreichbar. Für den Rückweg sollte man allerdings ein Tuk-Tuk nehmen, da der Weg im Dunkeln nicht empfehlenswert ist. Kleine Nachteile: Es gibt viele Treppen, und die Dusche hat keine richtige Duschabtrennung, sodass das Bad schnell etwas nass wird. Insgesamt hat es uns sehr gut gefallen – vor allem wegen der tollen Aussicht, des liebevoll zubereiteten Frühstücks und der besonderen Lage. Wir würden wiederkommen!

Kleinschalig hotel net buiten Ella, steile weg er naartoe. Prima te doen met tuktuk of auto. Vanaf het ruime balkon van de kamer hadden we een schitterend uitzicht over Ella, en zagen een stuk onder ons de trein voorbij rijden. Uitstekende uitvalsbasis om Ella en omgeving te verkennen. Het personeel vindt het - net als op veel andere locaties in Sri Lanka - erg belangrijk dat je het naar je zin hebt. In de restaurant/bar bovenin het hotel (ook weer mooi uitzicht) ging in de loop van de dag de muziek aan, steeds harder, met als doel klanten uit te omgeving aan te trekken.

Fantastic views, loved waking up every morning and looking over the valley. Fantastic spot to chill out, pool table, bar and views made this stay special. It's a little further from the town, but we would not change it. It's peaceful and serene.

Beautiful property in a gorgeous location with some stunning views! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, we had a big balcony and could even see the train going past.

Heel mooi uitzicht, ontbijt was zeker voldoende en gevarieerd. Eenmaal dinner genomen, en deze borden waren zeer mooi gepresenteerd. Er is een bar, en een pool tafel die je gratis kan gebruiken. Met wat geluk kan je aapjes spotten op je terras. Zelf te bekijken of je dat een voordeel of nadeel vindt. Mooie kamer en badkamer/wc ook proper! Het verblijf is redelijk nieuw, dus alles nog in goede staat.

De gastheer was iets te vriendelijk, overdreven eigenlijk. Zo moesten we letterlijk elke keer zeggen wat we gingen doen of waar we waren geweest. De bediening was traag, of je moest lang wachten of zelf koffie/thee vragen. Kleine storende elementen, maar zeker niets om voor weg te blijven.

Cool bar and restaurant area with amazing views. About 10 mins up the hill from Ella. Hotel is built ‘down the hill’ so definitely good exercise if you are in one of the lower rooms (lots of steps). Very helpful and friendly staff. About 5 mins in a Tuk Tuk to Kitha Ella station where you can start a hike up to Ella Rock.

Property is super beautiful high in the mountains. The room we had was huge and had a big balcony with mesmerizing views. The staff was extra helpful and cooperative. They took very good care of us. The breakfast was amazing with a mix of sri lankan and english food. The billiard table at the property was such a great and fun idea. If we come back to sri lanka, we will stay at this property without a doubt.

The property is about a 10 min drive up the mountain from downtown Ella. It’s a beautiful hotel on the mountain. So if you want to walk the town you would need to take a tuktuk up and down. 10 min from train station as well. They welcomed us so kindly and gave us the best service. Always making sure we were comfortable. The rooms are comfortable and easy to fit a family. The breakfast was also tasty. Thank you for everything!

Loved our stay here while exploring Ella. Kalindu was so welcoming and helpful in suggesting activities for the day. We were travelling with our two kids aged 5 and 8 and the family room was perfect for us. Breakfast was tasty and perfect way to start the day.

We had an amazing stay and could not have asked for a better place in Ella. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and always willing to help with anything we needed. They were truly the nicest people we met during our entire trip to Sri Lanka. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the view was absolutely spectacular. The breakfast was delicious, and we also enjoyed the dinners served at their restaurant. They offer laundry services and helped us arrange everything we needed, including scooter rental and a tuk-tuk tour of the city. No request was too much for them, and they were always happy to assist. I wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Ella. I am convinced I could not have made a better choice, and I would gladly stay here again.

Wat een super fijne plek om te verblijven als je in Ella bent! Met een fantastisch uitzicht, het personeel is super, ontbijt heerlijk en een klein koelkastje op de kamer is ook erg fijn. De accomodatie is niet in Ella zelf, maar met de tuktuk ben je zo in het dorp en/of bij de bezienswaardigheden. Voor lunch en diner kan je ook goed eten in het sfeervolle restaurant boven.

Alles beviel ons. Maar als ik dan iets moet noemen: er was op de kamer geen kast aanwezig om je koffer uit te pakken voor als je (net als wij) iets langer verblijft op dezelfde plek.

Our family spent an incredible night at Shining Green View Ella, and we only wish we could have stayed longer! If you are looking for a peaceful escape that captures the true essence of Ella’s natural beauty while still being just a short, convenient distance from the town center, this place is absolute perfection. ✨ We stayed in the Chalet room, and it was exactly what we needed for our family of three. The space was beautifully clean, comfortably arranged, and well-equipped with all the essentials. But the absolute showstopper was the balcony! Waking up early to witness a magnificent misty sunrise rolling over the lush green mountains right from our room was a core memory for us. Our kid loved sitting out there watching the distant trains go by and spotting playful monkeys in the trees. It felt like our own private paradise in the hills. 🐒🌅 The hospitality here is what truly sets this hotel apart. The staff treat you like extended family from the moment you step foot on the property. They went out of their way to make sure our child was comfortable, happy, and well-fed. Speaking of food, the breakfast was phenomenal! They served a generous, delicious spread of traditional Sri Lankan dishes alongside fresh fruit and pancakes that kept us full well into the afternoon. The main restaurant area has a wonderfully relaxing, open setup where you can just sit back, enjoy a drink, and absorb the panoramic mountain views. 🥞☕ For parents traveling with a child, finding a spot that balances stunning vistas, pristine cleanliness, and genuinely accommodating service can be tough, but Shining Green View nailed it. This was my second time staying at Shining Green View Ella, and even though it was just a quick one-night getaway as a solo traveler, the experience was absolutely flawless from start to finish. Returning to a place always comes with high expectations, and I am so happy to say they managed to exceed them yet again. From the moment I arrived, I was reminded of why I loved this place the first time. The hospitality here is unmatched. Traveling solo means you really appreciate a team that makes you feel safe, welcomed, and genuinely cared for. נוף מטורף מכל מקום במלון,צוות מדהים ויעיל,הבחור בקבלה מדבר אנגלית מעולה ונותן שירות מדהים ועזר בכל מה שביקשנו. היינו עם תינוק בן שנה וילדה בת 10 ילד בן 7,לקחנו את החדר הכי גדול והיה מדהים. המלון נמצא גבוה ,עשר ד נסיעה למרכז העיר,יש נהג טוקטוק במלון,ירדנו איתו בעל פעם ,ליווה אותנו גם בימים מסויימים חצי יום או יום שלם. נהננו מאוד . ממליצה בחום

We loved this stay! The views and rooms were great. Location was perfect. Staff were helpful and attentive. The restaurant area was a good place to hang out and play some pool. Close enough to main town without the noise.

There are a lot of stairs to get to the room and no elevator so be mindful for those with mobility concerns. Staff were very helpful in carrying bags for us though!

The duty manager was extremely helpful and organised everything we needed without a fuss.

Location is little out of town and the property is a bit dated and needs a makeover.

The view was incredibly beautiful, I loved and enjoyed it with all my heart. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made sure everything was fine. It was a real joy to wake up to a magnificent sunrise over the mountains.

It is a lovely, well-furnished hotel with very kind and helpful staff. Good breakfast with local dishes. The highlights are definitely the stunning views of the valley, the sunrise, and the passing trains, all of which you can enjoy from the large terrace with its chill-out area. We loved watching the playful monkeys nearby in the morning. It’s a nice walk into town along the railway tracks, but be prepared for a steep staircase at the start – the walk back up is quite a workout!

A stunning view from the balcony, the breakfast restaurant and the bar. Rooms were large and clean as were the balconies. Excellent (sri lankan) breakfast, which differed at bit every day. A quiet location outside main Ella, but easy to reach by tuk-tuk. (approx 800 rupies). Very friendly and attending staff. Its a small hotel with homestay wibes. Music from bar and poolroom as well as kitchen noise stops at 10pm. Close to other restaurants and the Ella Rock trail.

Just to make you aware: The hotel has several floors i.e, the rooms being below the bar and breakfast area (although all with stunning views). So you will have to be able to climb stairs (the views are worth it).

Le goutte à goutte constant qui tombe sur le toit en tôle (des tapis sont alors disposés sur le toit pour atténuer le bruit). Attention aux singes sur les balcons !

It was the best place we stayed so far! The view, the room, the staff, everything was amazing! We had the absolut best breakfast and the most helpful manager. We booked this place because of it's recommendation and we were not dissapointed. We even extended our stay for two more nights.

We’ve had a lot of good breakfasts on this trip, but this one was the absolute best - served on the balcony with a fantastic view of the valley below and the surrounding jungle with the railway track. The location here is perfect, far enough away from town center that it’s quiet in the evening but close enough that the hotel tuk tuk can drive you down in about 10 minutes. The tuk tuk driver also picked us up after dinner and brought us back up again. We were able to walk from the door over to Ella rock trail head and up the mountain, it adds an extra bit of elevation gain and distance but it’s a beautiful walk and good exercise which we appreciated. The room is perfect, really nice bed with good pillows, duvet, and netting around the bed. Excellent place to watch the sun rise without even leaving bed or enjoy it from the beautiful balcony. Excellent staff who took great care of us and offered great conversation. We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Ella. 💖

What a place to spend a vacation. Calm and relaxing atmosphere with the view of the green mountain. We stayed only for one night here, but we would've stayed a little longer. ❤ The breakfast, the room and the staff were at their best for the price. 👍 Their new restaurant is really convenient.
