I did find the bathroom small but for just one person it was fine. Other than that, loved it. There was nothing to complain about.

Especially appreciated the chocolates in our room & lots of extra blankets in the cupboard. Beautiful setting on 25 acres with landscaped gardens & deer but only 8 minutes from town. Peaceful & very quiet & the stars at night were fantastic .Breakfast was delicious & portions generous. Thank you for a lovely stay

Reviewed Apr 21, 2026This property is so lovely as are the owners. Room is spacious with nice en-suite. Good to see deer on the property and learn about the history of the deer farm. Lovely breakfast cooked fresh by the owner in front of us. She also gave us a great recommendation for an evening meal in town. (N.B. You do need a car as this is a bit out of town)

Reviewed Mar 29, 2026Das wunderschöne B&B liegt idyllisch, an sehr ruhiger Lage am Rande von Invercargill. Unsere Gastgeber Anne-Marie und John waren sehr herzlich und hilfsbereit. Wir sind am Valentinstag angereist und die Restaurants waren weitgehendest ausgebucht. Anne-Marie hat alles in Bewegung gesetzt, um uns einen Platz in einem tollen Restaurant zu finden. Das Frühstück in Gesellschaft unserer Gastgeber war ausgezeichnet. Das B&B ist ein idealer Zwischenstopp auf der Reise durch die Catlins nach Te Anau. Wir können es uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

Wi-Fi is very slow and mobile reception is very weak in the area.

Reviewed Feb 23, 2026We had a lovely stay in Anne Marie and John’s bnb. Nothing was too much trouble and we were so well looked after. It is in a quiet, rural and peaceful environment. The room was very comfortable and we had a great breakfast that set us up for the day. We would definitely recommend McIvor Lodge!

Reviewed Feb 12, 2026Anne-Marie was absolutely lovely and very welcoming. The bed was so comfortable and the room had all amenities you'd need (except a fridge but we didn't particularly need one). We had breakfast in her kitchen in the morning and enjoyed chatting for about an hour. She provided muesli, yoghurt, fruit, toast, and eggs. She even cooked some wild venison for my husband who mentioned he would love to try it while in the area!

Reviewed Oct 4, 2025Everything about this stay was so great! The room and bath were clean and warm with listed amenities provided, and the breakfast with the hosts was really generous and tasty! Anne-Marie and John were friendly and gave great recommendations about places to go/things to eat along our trip (the burger recommendation was really good!) They even gave us a tour around their deer farm, and I got to meet the sheep and baby lambs. Thank you so much for the stay ☺️

Reviewed Mar 23, 2025AnnMarie was very kind and friendly. The location was rural like yet minutes from town. We really enjoyed learning about the red stag deer and getting to see them. AnnMarie gave us excellent tips on restaurant for dinner and we really enjoyed the motorcycle exhibit at the hardware that she recommended. Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed meeting your grandsons! Bed was very comfy.
Room is small but was fine for a short stay.

There is only one guest bedroom which is a beautiful ground floor double room with its own private entrance, and which is furnished and equipped to a luxury standard. Anne-Marie, the host, was very welcoming and very helpful throughout. She served us with an excellent varied breakfast.

The hosts were very nice and prepared a sumptuous breakfast with cereal, toast with homemade preserves, eggs and bacon. Good value for Invercargill while staying out in the countryside.

There was nothing we didn't like but if I had to say something it would be that we didn't stay longer.

Our room was warm and cosy for the winter, and they had a lovely patio that you’d be able to enjoy in warmer weather too. We also loved chatting over a thoughtful breakfast with our hosts, and being able to visit and learn about the deer on the farm!
