Sigiriya Free View Tree House & Villa

Ontzettend fijn verblijf gehad! De eigenaar en zijn gezin waren ontzettend lief en behulpzaam. Hij regelde al onze activiteiten, bracht ons naar Pidurangala Rock voor de zonsopgang, waarschuwde ons goed voor de wilde olifanten in de omgeving en bracht ons ook regelmatig ergens naartoe. Hij doet zelf ook de olifantensafari’s en dit is zeker een aanrader! Hij weet precies waar hij moet zijn om de olifanten te vinden. Ook hielp hij ons met het regelen van vervoer naar onze volgende bestemming. Zijn vrouw kookte heerlijk voor ons. We zijn ontzettend dankbaar voor hun gastvrijheid en zouden dit verblijf zeker aanraden!

The property has contacted us even before our stay about our plans and to be honest at the beginning we thought that they just try to sell us something, but it turned out that Rohan and his wife are the most caring people. Rohan made some great suggestions without putting any pressure on us and he even helped us with renting a motorbike. His friend gave us a very new motorbike and we find the daily rate very fair, but we think that if Rohan was not with us we couldn’t get such a great deal. His wife has prepared the most delicious Sri Lankan breakfast we have had so far. We had so much food for breakfast that we had to skip lunch on our second day. The restroom in our room needed a bit upgrading, but for the money that we have paid we can’t really complain. We used also the laundry service and our clothes came back very clean and even folded. Restaurants are in walking distance and the famous rocks are 5-10 minutes drive away from the property.

Rohan and his wife made sure that we were taken care of. They are extremely attentive and such nice persons. We went on a safari with Rohan, he gave us a lot of knowledge about elephants and made sure to get us great spots. We saw a herd of around 70 elephants which crossed our path multiple times. Rohan also made great recommendations, his friends always offered special prices because of him. The breakfast was also great, every day the variety of foods changed.

Our stay at Free View Tree House & Villa was one of the highlights of our time in Sri Lanka. Rohan and his whole family are incredibly warm, kind and welcoming, and by the time we left it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends rather than simply checking out of accommodation. For the price, the villa itself was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a large fridge/freezer in our room which was really useful. The setting is absolutely beautiful, tucked away amongst the jungle and surrounded by wildlife. We spotted so many birds around the villa, including peacocks, as well as frogs and lizards. Of course, being in the middle of nature means you may occasionally encounter an insect too – but that's part of the experience of staying somewhere this wonderfully wild rather than in a sterile hotel room. On our first evening we stayed for a delicious home-cooked dinner, and the traditional Sri Lankan breakfasts were a real highlight. Every morning there was something different to try, including pancakes, rotti and lavariya, alongside other dishes. It felt like being given a little introduction to Sri Lankan food each morning. Rohan's wife's family also helped to look after us during our stay and arranged a tuk tuk for our early trip to Sigiriya Lion Rock. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Even after we came back dusty from our safari, they managed to turn around a load of laundry incredibly quickly for us, which was very much appreciated when travelling as a family! Although you're surrounded by jungle and it feels wonderfully peaceful and tucked away, there are also lots of great places to eat within walking distance. Our favourite was Freedom Night Sigiriya – lovely food and such a nice atmosphere. And if you don't fancy the walk, just drop them a message and they'll happily send a tuk tuk to collect you, which made getting around really easy.

There was nothing we didn't like. There were a few ants in the bathroom but the villa is in the middle of the jungle, it is a very well run family run business so adjust your expectations accordingly and enjoy!!

Nous avons tout aimé : la situation, la chambre très propre et confortable et la famille très accueillante. Nous avons pu prendre un cours de cuisine et avons dégusté de savoureux repas, dîner et petits déjeuners. Nous recommandons vivement ce lieu! 😍

Der Aufenthalt war für uns perfekt! Die Familie war äusserst herzlich und zuvorkommend. (Wir wurden überall hin und zurück gefahren, bekamen wertvolle Tips für Ausflüge etc. das Frühstück war sehr gut und abwechslungreich) Das Zimmer war sauber und sehr schön eingerichtet.

We stayed here for two nights and the owners took care of us like their own family. We loved our stay here, and especially our kids. The location is good too - next to some great restaurants and close to the major attractions. Breakfast is highly recommended

Een heel leuke verblijfplaats!! Alles is zeer schoon en het is heel leuk om in de boomhut te verblijven. De aller vriendelijkste mensen van heel Sri Lanka!! We werden heel erg goed geholpen met alle verschillende activiteiten, we aten er ‘s avonds (een echte aanrader!). Zo blij dat we hier terecht konden.

Rohan und seine Familie waren sehr freundlich und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Er hat mit uns eine tolle Elefanten safari gemacht und sich perfekt um uns gekümmert. Einfach toll und sehr zu empfehlen.

Amazing stay! The place is well located, spacious, and very comfortable. The hosts were incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly. They also organize great safari tours nearby. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the local dishes, and the breakfasts were fantastic. Highly recommended!

De veranda was een fijne plek om te zitten

De eigenaar kwam bij het inchecken erg opdringerig over mbt vervoer en excursies. De eigenaresse liep grotendeels van de dag luid te bellen, zelfs tijdens het serveren van het ontbijt. De deur van de kamer moest steeds dicht blijven ivm dieren, maar in de badkamer zat een open rand van 20cm waardoor een beest 's nachts in mijn kamer zat en de suikerzakjes heeft geplunderd.

The people, the food, the experience. Everything was incredible! Rohan and Presida are the most amazing hosts. They went above and beyond. We did a cooking class with Presida, which was some of the best food of our trip so far. We went on the most incredible safari with Rohan where we saw over 20 elephants, including 3 baby elephants. He is a very ethical and knowledgeable, to the point that other drivers were asking him facts when asked by their customers. We felt like we were leaving good friends by the end, and would recommend staying here to anyone!

The property was beautiful. The service was beautiful. Rohan and his family treated us so well, fed us delicious breakfasts and offered us dinners as well which were delicious. He also offered other services like a safari and took us to a beautiful lake. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here in Sigiriya honestly a perfect trip. The people were fantastic, really made our stay special. We had an amazing safari from the accomodation, saw lots of elephants, the stay is roughly 40 minute walk to the base of lion rock, but our hosts offered to give us a lift. The food was lovely and they made a special effort with gluten free poppers, I wouldn't get to try them otherwise.

Wollten immer das wir was dazu buchen, Fahrer oder zu Sehenswürdigkeiten fahren. Wir haben uns an einem Tag in der Früh fahren lassen und es hat einfach das doppelte gekostet. Deswegen haben wir dann nichts mehr über das Hotel genommen.

The treehouse was very clean and functional. The breakfast was very good. The family is so kind and took us to a safari at the perfect time and at the perfect spots to see the elephants. We were the only ones and these moments are unforgettable.

Everything was literally perfect. I especially appreciated how everything was so well thought out in the room. There was a fridge and hot water and aircon. The bed was super comfortable!! The breakfast was amazing but the best part was the host and his lovely family. Incredibly kind people with so much knowledge on the area. This was my favourite accommodation during our whole trip!

Wir hatten die Hütte mit AC, was zwar einen kleinen Aufschlag gekostet hat, aber definitiv empfehlenswert ist, da es in Sigiriya sehr warm werden kann. Die Familie war super freundlich und hat für uns gekocht und eine Safari mit uns gemacht. Das Zimmer war schön eingerichtet und war sauber.

De gastvrijheid, het gevarieerde ontbijt en de voortreffelijke diners. Daarnaast was het een feest om met de man des huizes (Rohan) een jeep safari te ondernemen. Hij is een bevoegd ranger en kan erg enthousiast over de olifanten vertellen!

Het was eenvoudig en verre van luxueus, maar deze lieve mensen compenseren dat ten volle.

We had a wonderful stay, and our hosts could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Sleeping in the tree house was a special experience and comfortable. We took the opportunity to go on a safari with Rohan which was well worth it. We saw so many elephants! His knowledge is excellent. Pressadi gave us and other guests a cookery lesson which was another added extra. The meal was delicious. I would certainly recommend this accommodation to enhance your Sri Lankan holiday.

Fantastisch verblijf. Ontzettend lieve gastvrije familie die je overal bij willen helpen. Geweldige safari gedaan met Rohan en heerlijk genoten van de kookkunsten van zijn vrouw. Wij hebben veel geleerd over de cultuur en omgeving. Daarnaast een mooie ruime en schone kamer met ac. Als kers op de taart werd ik verrast met een chocoladetaart op mijn verjaardag. Zo lief en attent dat ze dat speciaal voor mij hadden geregeld. Echt een aanrader!

Het is 1 van onze lievings stops tot nu toe. En het eten is tot nu toe ook het beste wat we hier in Sri Lanka gegeten hebbben. Heel huiselijke sfeer ,, traditioneel eten , achteraf gezien keek ik terug inde recensies en zag ik dat je ook een kookles had kunnen meevolgen in het verblijf, als we dat wisten hadden we dit heel graag meegedaan, want het was geweldig lekker eten!!! Dankjewel voor alle gastvrijheid en alle uitleg en tijd , over het leven, de olifanten, de safari . Het was voor ons een unieke geweldige ervaring wat jullie ons bezorgd hebben. Wij voelden ons heel welkom!

This accommodation was the best on our trip so far! We stayed in a tree house surrounded by greenery. From there you can see colourful birds, squirrels and sleep in very comfortable beds. It is beautifully furnished, simple and functional. Everything is very clean and there are mosquito nets. We had the best breakfast and dinner in Sri Lanka, Presadi is a fantastic cook. She also showed us how to make coconut sambol. She and her husband Rohan were incredibly helpful, always organised a driver for us and advised us on excursions. Rohan took us on the best safari we could have wished for. He is an elephant expert and a very considerate and sensitive guide with an ecological awareness. The children played together. We would have loved to stay longer. We have taken you and your children very much to our hearts, dear Rohan and dear Presadi! Thank you so much for the unforgettable days! One day we will come back! Die Familie war großartig! Wir wurden von Rohan vom Bahnhof 30min entfernt abgeholt & wurden gleich mit einem traditionellem und köstlichen Curry, zubereitet von der Frau, empfangen. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber & vollkommen ausreichend und toll ausgestattet (wir waren nicht im Tree House, sondern in der Villa daneben.) Betten angenehm, leider aber kein Moskitonetz, dafür Citonell Stecker! (im Treehouse aber schon Moskitonetz) Extrem leckeres und traditionelles Frühstück und für den Preis ein Wahnsinn. Wir haben alle Zusatzleistungen von Rohan und seiner Familie ausprobiert & waren immer extrem erstaunt, da sowohl die private Elefanten Safari (Rohan macht das schon 15 Jahre und ist ein wahrer Profi), als auch die Empfehlungen der Umgebung immer top waren. Er hat uns zusätzlich überall zu einem extrem fairen Preis hingeführt oder einen Fahrer organisiert. Wir haben uns sehr sicher und immer richtig beraten gefühlt. Die Familie, er seine Frau und die entzückenden 2 Kinder haben für ein tolles Wohlfühlerlebnis gesorgt! Danke Für alles ❤️

Rohan, der Inhaber, ist ein umfassend informierter, äußerst kundiger Safari-Guide, der uns mit seinem Fahrzeug zu den besten Orten des Kaudulla-Nationalparks führte. Elefantensichtung garantiert!

Sigiriya Free View Villa was simply wonderful. The hosts Rohan & Prasadi were very welcoming and communication was excellent. Rohan speaks very good English. The Villa had comfortable beds and a lovely terrace. Rohan has an amazing knowledge of Elephants and does Safari's whilst Prasadi runs cooking classes. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

Es ist ein tolles Erlebnis, die Familie ist sehr freundlich. Und für eine Nacht ist diese Unterkunft definitiv zu empfehlen. Am Besten auch gleich die Safari mit dem Besitzer machen. Wir konnten viele Elefanten beobachten.

Keine A/C, nur Ventilatoren, was schon etwas heiß wurde Das Baumhaus ist auch nicht dicht verschlossen, dafür gibt es aber Moskito-Netze.

La gentillesse des hôtes, la qualité du petit déjeuner et du diner. Rohan est très serviable, il nous a organisé un super safari au parc de Kaudulla et nous a conduit plusieurs fois sur des lieux de visite ainsi qu'à notre hotel suivant.

L'absence de climatisation, nous avons dû dormi avec les ventilateurs allumés mais c'est une cabane dans les arbres donc cela se comprend. Le diner etait très bon mais bien plus cher que dans les autres guest houses.

Very friendly host family! Room was good, clean, comfy beds, good aircon. The host offers various things and Rohan does the safari himself. He's done the safari for many years, knows how to avoid the crowds, how to deal with the elephants to make the most out of the safari while being respectful to the animals. Rohan's wife made us delicious dinner and breakfast. Overall very good!

It's a little bit further from the centre of sigiriya than some other places. 15 minute walk to the main crossing at Lion Rock.

What a beautiful location and a beautiful family. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend to anyone thinking about it. Rohan and his family did everything to make our stay as comfortable and easy as possible. We are so glad we went on an elephant safari - it was one of the most special experiences of our Sri Lankan trip.

He had an amazing time with Rohan and his family! I can’t recommend you enough to come here. We tried the elephant safari with him and had and incredible experience. He knows everything about elephants and respect them, also makes all that’s necessary to make your stay unique and superb. His wife’s food it’s the best we had so far in our trip. We stayed in the small house in the back, it’s away from the road and very quiet. In the morning you’re waking up with the sound of birds, feels like the middle of the jungle. The room was sparkling clean, the bathroom has a window so there is no humidity or smell problem. It was walking distance to most restaurants and to the Lion’s rock (about 30min). The hosts go out of their way to accommodate you, woke up 4am to take us to climb Pidurangala for sunrise. We also did the elephant safari with them and it was a really magical experience, would definitely recommend!

The owners were so welcoming and friendly. My friend had caught a stomach bug before he arrived and felt really ill . They were genuinely concerned and did everything they could to help. They also organised an elephant safari for us which was amazing!

No hot water from the shower and the bathroom smelt quite musty but given that the accomodation was in a jungle setting I’m sure that was standard really.

Excellent 3 night stay. Very comfortable accommodation, great dinner and breakfasts. Close to all the restaurants and attractions. The most loveliest family hosts. We took their safari and was blown away with the amount of elephants seen, so close. Rowan was very knowledgeable and respectful of the animals.

The room was clean, spacious and had all the basic necessities. Shower was warm and the air con was efficient. Beds were really comfy too! We were greeted with fresh pineapple juice on arrival which was a lovely touch. The included breakfasts were tasty, local Sri Lankan dishes and made fresh for when required. The location was perfect - a quiet area for getting sleep but only a 10minute walk to the main area with restaurants and bars (there are some even closer literally one minute away if you don’t want to walk to the busier area). The family who run this business are lovely, Rohan drove us to Lion rock and we booked our safari through them. Rohan gave us lots of recommendations about what we could do without being pushy to book anything. Nothing was too much trouble for him to organise. The elephant safari was a fantastic experience, Rohan was a safari tour guide before having the hotel so he is very knowledgable and we always felt that the elephants welfare was a priority. Rohan and his family were great hosts. Rohan offers safari trips which I would recommend doing. He has a great passion and knowledge for elephants and excellent English to answer any questions you might have. The villa was a in good location near restaurants.

Nice rooms, nice owners, fantastic safari and very helpful in terms of Transfers from the Airport orto other cities.

Near to bars and restaurants. Clean and nice area to sit out and enjoy the peace and quiet. The staff went above and beyond. Rohan ran us to Lion’s rock and into town when it was pouring down. He also took on safari and made sure we saw lots of elephants taking us away from the other jeeps. Fridge and mini bar handy.

Awesome stay in Sigiriya. Very child friendly, our little son loved to play with their kids. He is really helpful and did an Elefantsafari with us. One of the best so far, he told us a lot of information about them and drove really carefuly because of our son. Also he got up at five the morning after to drive us to the entrance for climbing Pidurangala. Defintily would recommend to stay there. Thank you for everything

It was a wonderful place to stay, right in the heart of nature. Naturally, this meant we occasionally had visits from small insects, but that's to be expected when you’re surrounded by such a beautiful environment. The breakfast was delicious, with a variety of well-cooked, traditional food prepared by the host lady. Dinner was also fantastic. The host was very friendly, and we went on a safari with him. We paid a very reasonable price for it, and it was quite comfortable. I highly recommend staying here!

Owner was a bit pushy to get us into booking a safari tour with him, at the same time bad mouthing our already booked safari at another destination in Sri Lanka.

Rohan and his wifi are hospitile. They help you with all of your questions. Hé is also a safari driver so its easy and cheap to go and spot some elephants. The tree house is very beautiful and clean. These people work very hard to help you with anything and They bring you everywhere.

I loved staying there! The room was spotless and had a mini fridge already stocked with beer and other drinks. Even the glass was in the fridge—how thoughtful! What I loved most, though, was the genuine kindness of the owners. There were no hidden fees, and when he said, “I’m going to take you around,” he truly did it out of the kindness of his heart. I 100% recommend staying here.

Rohan and Prasadini made everything to make our stay perfect. They are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The treehouse was an adventure for us and Prasadini’s homemade breakfast was delicious. The safari with Rohan was absolutely amazing! We have seen so many elephants, even 2 babies and so close. He is the best, so friendly and more than 10 years experience. I stayed 3 nights at this lovely family in the tree house. The room was very clean, breakfast was good and the family are really nice people that are always willing to help to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Rohan also took me on a safari which was amazing, through his experience and connection he knew exactly where the elephants would be. If I come again to Sigiriya I will for sure stay at this place again.

Nothing. If you like to be in nature, like to hear the sounds of the jungle at night and like to feel the warmth of the people and are not looking for luxury like in resorts, this is the perfect place.

Simple and clean tree house, comfortabke and spacious and nice balcony! Lovely hosts.

It was all good until we saw the bill for the home made dinner, they charged us 2100 rupees per person for a Sri Lankan dinner which was delicious but ridiculously expensive if you see the prices in the country. We were very disappointed and would never book again to be honest that just a scam.

We had the villa with AC, excellent for the 4 of us. The family owners are sweet and take care of their guests. Nice breakfast too. Rohan organised a great safari for us, knew exactly where to go and had a lot to tell about the asian elephants in the park.

If anyone comes to Sigiriya: We absolutely recommend to stay at Sigiriya Free View Tree House and Villa. Ronan and his family are incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. They cook wonderful Sri Lankan meals with vegetables and fruits from their own garden! We went on a Safari with Ronan, which was incredible. He is choose the park according to the information, where we could find most elephants. And where there were less people. And it paid out! Many, many elephants and no other car! The family are so lovely, very welcoming and friendly. The room was very clean with air conditioning if you require it and the breakfasts were delicious. We also did the elephant safari with Rohan which was incredible. We saw over 50 elephants gathered together. Rohan has years of experience as a guide so was able to tell us lots about the elephants. Would recommend this as a good place to stay if you are visiting Sigiriya.

Very nice family, always helpful and smiling. The room was very clean and the place is very quiet, had very good rest. Totally recommend to have dinner with them, she cooks amazingly! and the price is very good.

Breakfast was certainly a highlight! Felt like having a home-cooked meal with such a nice variety of Sri Lankan foods to try! I thought the host family was incredibly kind and they also offer some safari options for the local parks.

Location is a bit outside of the main part of town, so you definitely need a tuk tuk or car to get there if it's dark.

It was a pleasure to stay 3 nights at Rohan and his family. Located in the forest, treehouse surrounded by beautiful nature. The breakfast and dinner prepared by Prasadi was amazing. We felt as family members, our daughter played a lot with their son, Kaviru. The elephant safari arranged by Rohan was unbelievable, a never forgotten experience. The hospitality was absolutely fantastic. Definitely recommended, hope to come back once!

The nicest stay we ever had. We enjoyed everything. Excellent meal, comfortable treehouse, nice garden. Owner and his family are amazing. He provided us special guided safari, not like rhe commercial one, we learnt a lot. Higly recomended, this one is a real gem when you stay in Sigiyria.

We had a very nice stay at this house. We chose the Villa to have an AC in the room. In the evening we got a delicious meal from the owners wife. Thanks for our nice stay. Sadly we already had been to a Safari and wanted to move up north. I'm sure it's a good place to make an elephant-safari there.
