Minthu Homestay

Ligger 7 minutters gang oppe ad bjerget i forhold til byen Ella med “gaden” med alle restauranter og butikker som alle spiller høj musik . Vi var så glade for at vi ikke boede dernede. Der er super smuk udsigt fra de private terrasser. Og hele familien Minthu er supersøde, lækker morgenmad og god til at reagere på at komme og fjerne de forskellige smådyr som kom ind. Der er fan men ikke aircondition på værelserne.

Minthu was awesome - at the top end of the hill about a 10 minute walk from the main hub. Amazing view over Ella rock and Ravana waterfall.

Great room with a balcony, hammock, and bean bag. I loved the view more and more every day. It was a lovely experience hearing the train and being able to see it in the distance as well. The breakfast was very delicious. An early check-in and extending my stay by one night were also easily possible. The area is quiet, but the city center is still within easy walking distance.

Des rideaux plus occultants seraient les bienvenus ainsi qu’un meuble de salle de bain ! Ce n’est pas trop isolé (réveillés par les voisins qui rentrent et la prière )

Minthu homestay havde en fantastisk flot udsigt ud over bjergene. Meget betagende. Vi fik lækker morgenmad som værterne selv lavede til os. Det var meget søde værter.

Vi var 6 afsted, så vi bestilte 3 værelser. Det sidste værelse var ikke helt ok, da de unge mennesker der boede der ofte fik besøg af små dyr. Men et behandling sted at bo

Posizione panoramica, soprattutto l'area comune dove si fa colazione, è un bel modo per iniziare la giornata! Camera molto ampia Personale accogliente e disponibile Percorrendo i binari si arriva in una decina di minuti nel centro di ella.

Consiglio solo di pulire maggiormente i terrazzini delle camere e i puff in modo da permettere agli ospiti di approfittare maggiormente di questo comfort.

La vista dalla nostra camera e dalla zona colazione è stupenda, ben visibili tutte le montagne che circondano Ella. La posizione non è propriamente in centro ma in 10 minuti su strada asfaltata si può raggiungere. Lo staff gentile e cordiale, ci ha preparato una ottima colazione.Bagno ok. Ottima la terrazza vista montana per rilassarsi.

Purtroppo, non per colpa dell'hotel, è saltata la corrente per un'oretta alle 6 di sera. Non è raro a Ella ma dipende dalla sfortuna.

Minthu and his family made us feel very welcome. Location is great - easy to get into Ella. The homestay terrace is at canopy height of surrounding trees so you get great views of wildlife (birds, monkeys) as well as Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak.

Todo muy bien , la familia muy amable y respetuosa. El desayuno muy rico y sobretodo las maravillosas vistas frente a las montañas. Lo recomiendo 💯

Such a beautiful location with a fantastic view from our balcony and window!! The room was perfect and the breakfast was incredible traditional Sri Lankan food and a cute little kitten will come and say hi! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The walk into Ella town is a short 10 minutes along the train tracks which is really pretty! I would recommend this place to anyone

But of a bad smell in the room but disappeared when we turned on the fan!

El dueño y la familia majísimos, las vistas increibles, la habitación nos encantó, y el desayuno buenísimo. Fueron dos dias estupendos.

Por poner una mínima pega, la poca iluminación del baño pero vamos, compensaba con todo lo demás

Notre séjour était parfait avec un hôte très gentil, serviable et aidant. Le petit déjeuné est de loin le meilleur petit déjeuner que j’ai mangé au Sri Lanka. La quantité était copieuse et en plus c’était délicieux. La vue est tout simplement incroyable si vous aimez les montagne, c’est l’emplacement idéal dans Ella

Excellent breakfast with a stunning view. We had a different one every day and everything was very fresh, tasty and good. The owner is a really kind and chill person and the room is wide clean and quiet. The view over the waterfall makes it exceptionnal.

The room is nice, the location is good (short walk to the main part of town), and the view is beautiful. They offer free, fresh breakfast every morning.

Future guests should be aware that they do not provide a water filter. All of the water used is from plastic bottles, so this would NOT be considered an environmentally friendly option. Plastic waste is a huge problem in Sri Lanka (not to mention the rest of the world), so I would not book here again to discourage this harmful practice. I even gave the owner money to purchase a water filter for future guests... but it seems he kept my money rather than using it for its intended purpose :(

Beautiful views of the hill country and really lovely room. The breakfast was delicious and the owners were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about Ella. A great balcony with the room. Would definitely recommend.

The view from the rooms with balcony and also from the breakfast area can only be described by one word and that is AMAZING (see pictures). The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful and gave us good hints for the planned hiking tours. The breakfast is also good, but it is more traditional sri lankan, which means various curries. My husband loved that.

The bathrom window/balcony door did lack some kind of bug protection net. Therefore you could not get good air circulation in the room, which also lead to some mold in the bathroom. No major issue, but in my oponion easily fixable.

This property had the most beautiful view. It was run by a super kind family. Our rooms had lovely balconies with hammocks and beanbags. We very much enjoyed sitting out there reading and chatting. Breakfast was varied and cooked freshly with so much food that we could never finish it. Such a lovely stay that was excellent value for money. Thank you for having us.

Wi-Fi was very patchy. This was not the fault of the owner who was incredibly proactive in trying his best to sort it out.

Uphill hike

One of our party's rooms was lovely - big, really comfortable bed, very clean, with an incredible balcony view. Breakfast overlooking the valley and waterfall was amazing.

The other room was dark and damp, with damp bedsheets, and badly lit with a blue UV light - it made our other guest quite uncomfortable overnight.

The location was stunning. Breakfast was excellent. Minthu & his staff were hospitable and lovely. Minthu's Homestay was one of my favorite places to stay during my Sri Lanka trip.

If you're going to Ella you have to stay here! This accommodation has the best view we have ever seen. You can see Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock from the bedroom and communal areas. For us, the view was better than those on the famous train ride and from the top of Little Adam's Peak! We opened the curtains of our room and watched the sun rise from bed, a real highlight. It is a steep climb to the property which was difficult with bags (get a tuktuk, it's harder for cars to navigate the hills) but very manageable, even for me who does not have good fitness. The steep walk is absolutely worth it for the view. Ella is hilly so you will have a steep walk wherever you go anyway. Again, if this is off-putting you can get tuktuk for good price instead. It's quick to get to the centre of town. Our favourite bars and restaurants were the ones closest to the property reached by walking along the train track towards Ella station. The host and his family/team work very hard. We felt very welcome and he gave us great tips for the area. He arranged a lovely driver to Darshani Falls for a very good price and let us know best times to visit attractions.

Amazing view over beautiful landscape, quiet and very nice place. Walking distance to the village center, ca 5 min along the railway. Very friendly and nice host, and very helpful. Hei made delicious homemade breakfast Sri Lankan style. Nice and clean room with a balcony.

The road there was very narrow and bumpy, and to difficult for the minibuss driver, but the host organized a tuctuc to bring all our luggage both ways from the main road. The bed was a bit hard for my preference, but good for my husband, so there is really nothing to complain . Would happily return

La vue était extraordinaire, que ça soit dans la chambre ou lors du petit déjeuner (extrêmement bon aussi!), très bien placé, à proximité de plusieurs randonnées différentes. L’hôte était adorable, très serviable et souriant, il nous a proposé de nous faire le petit-déjeuner la veille au soir lorsque nous lui avons dis que nous devions partir à 3h du matin le lendemain, et c’était là aussi très bon ! Je ne peux que recommander !

Das Zimmer war vollkommen in Ordnung, allerdings von der Ausstattung her nichts Besonderes und wies teilweise Gebrauchsspuren auf. Es gibt einen Kühlschrank im Zimmer. Der Balkon war definitiv das Highlight: die Hängematte und der schöne Blick auf die Berge sowie die Zugstrecke waren toll! Eine Klimaanlage gab es leider nicht, sondern lediglich einen Ventilator. Gerade tagsüber wäre eine Klimaanlage gut gewesen. Nachts wurde es dann zum Glück angenehm kühl. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker, frisch zubereitet und wurde jeden Morgen mit kleinen Variationen vom Eigentümer serviert.

Minthu and his wife were great hosts! Breakfast was delicious and Minthu was gracious when answering my questions. I loved the location: close to town yet far enough to be away from the busyness of Ella. I especially loved sitting on the balcony and watching locals and tourists come and go!

Vista meravigliosa!! Personale molto gentile, simpatico e disponibile, ci ha consigliato diverse attività come il 9 arch bridge, distante 30 min camminando a piede dai binari che si trovano sotto la struttura!! La struttura è vicina al centro ma lontana dal caos, immersa nella natura bellissima! Colazione tipica preparata dai proprietari abbondante.

Si può trovare qualche animaletto nella stanza, ma si è nella giungla ed è più che normale!

I loved the place! 🫶🏼The location is gorgeous! It has million dollars view. Waterfall view I’ve never had, just from the room, crazy.🤩also just near balcony the train goes, so cool. Minthu and his family is very friendly, feels very welcomed. I’ve spent 4 nights instead of one, and enjoyed a lot. Every day was a different nice breakfast. And at night the sky full of stars and the jungle with peaceful sounds😌

The room is old already, but fine

Amazing views and unforgettable food I had a wonderful stay here in Ella. The view is absolutely stunning and truly one of the highlights of this place. The hosts were very kind and welcoming, making me feel at home right away. One of the best parts of my stay was the dinner – I had some of the most delicious curries there, easily one of the best meals during my trip. Enjoying it on the beautiful terrace overlooking the surroundings made the experience even more special. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting Ella!

Migliorerei solo l'isolamento delle camere, se siete suscettibili agli insetti lasciate perdere. Noi ci siamo trovati blatte e rane in stanza. Nulla di folle sia chiaro, però è da tenere in considerazione

A fantastic place to stay with a spacious room and an amazing view from the private terrace. The terrace had a hammock and comfortable bean bags where you could relax for hours while looking at the mountains, a waterfall, and the lush greenery. The apartment is located away from the busy and touristy center of Ella, but you can easily reach the main street on foot. The property also has a large shared terrace where delicious breakfasts are served, included in the price, featuring local dishes. Minthu is very welcoming—he greeted us with coffee and we chatted like old friends. He also told us a lot about the area. We highly recommend this place!

Nothing to complain about

Guesthouse with a fantastic view and excellent hospitality from Mr. Minthu! The rooms are spacious yet modest, and the breakfast is a true Sri Lankan experience!

The bathrooms (at least the one in our room) could be improved, and the common terrace could be better maintained, but the price of the accommodation is unbeatable!

Zimmer war zwar sauber aber generell etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Geckos waren ständig im Zimmer. Für das Zimmer leider etwas zu teuer.

Our stay at Minthu homestay was amazing! We were welcomed with a cup of tea and biscuits and enjoy the most beautiful view! The location is perfect, less than 10 minutes walk from town so away from the noise but easy to walk in and out. It was really peaceful and the views incredible. The breakfast was a highlight, different both mornings but great Sri Lankan style absolutely delicious! The host also helped us to arrange a tuk tuk for a good price to see the waterfalls and tea plantations, also onward travel. It really made our trip run smoothly. Definitely recommend this place to explore Ella and the surrounding areas.

Delicious breakfast. The view is breathtaking. Yes, getting there by car can be difficult, but the personal driver made it happen. Clean room, all the amenities! Wonderful staff.

Wonderful stay at Minthu’s! The breakfast is truly phenomenal (probably the best of our stay in Sri Lanka) with a great view. The room was clean and the shower worked brilliantly. Very good value for money. We loved it here!

Wir waren in der off-season dort und leider nur für eine kurze Nacht. Das Haus ist sehr familiär geführt und wir haben dort abends das selbst zubereitete Essen genossen. Für die Zugfahrt am nächsten Morgen wurde uns ein Tuktuk zum Bahnhof organisiert und sogar ein Frühstück mitgegeben. Die Aussicht auf Ella und die Umgebung ist wirklich schön.

Relaxing with great views

I loved the combination of your own room with balcony and the shared breakfast terras where Minthu cooks a delicious breakfast and is happy to help you with any question. The location is close to Ella but away from the noise. I loved it.
