Prince On The Roof

Amazing property, right in the heart of Amsterdam but a little peaceful haven that is quiet and private. Darja and Frank were brilliant hosts, helpful and responsive and made us feel at home. We would not hesitate to book again - this is definitely our favourite spot in Amsterdam to stay.

Nothing! It was wonderful. Everyone seems to mention in the reviews that the steps are too steep but we managed fine and it was all part of the fun and charm of the apartment. Definitely not for anyone with mobility issues but I honestly don’t think they would be an issue for anyone else!

The location of the property in central Amsterdam is great. Walking out & around is so easy. The tram to the station is a few minutes away. The apartment is quirky amongst the rooftops with a lovely secluded patio. A fantastic personal welcome from Frank; thank you.

It is not a negative but be aware of the access to the flat. We are oldies & managed the steep staircase with luggage OK.

Firstly, we were well informed of the access etc to the property well in advance. They sent a little video showing how it all works, which really helped.The location was absolutely perfect, being around 20 mins walk from Centraal, it was like a little oasis of green in the city. The terrace was beautiful, and we were lucky enough to have some sunshine when we were there, to make use of it! The inside was light and airy with plenty of daylight coming in, and lovely wooden blinds for privacy. Darja and Frank were absolutely fantastic. They checked if there was anything we needed after the first night,although there was nothing we needed for our stay. There were universal adapters, to charge all devices which were very useful! The bathroom was fantastic, great water pressure and the bath felt very luxurious and super relaxing. Great hosts and great property. We loved staying and would absolutely love to visit again! Literally everything was perfect, being Scottish we could have used another larger mug with a handle for large cups of tea!! But honestly, nothing we could complain about, the place was gorgeous.

I have been visiting Amsterdam 3 or 4 times a year for 15 years and this is by far the best accommodation I have stayed in. Excellent location and a true hidden gem

I wouldn't recommend it for elderly customers as it's a bit of a hike up those stairs. This is by no means a negative comment, just an observation

Es war alles perfekt: die Lage ist top, die Unterkunft ist sehr sauber und es ist alles vorhanden, was man braucht, die Betten sind äusserst bequem, wir haben super geschlafen, die Terrasse ist gross, sonnig und ruhig und die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich, entgegenkommend und hilfsbereit - ganz herzlichen Dank nochmals für den schönen und erholsamen Aufenthalt in Ihrer Unterkunft, wir kommen wieder :-)! Amazing location, so much around, but so quiet at the property. A slice of bliss in the middle of the hustle and bustle that is Amsterdam. Host was lovely, room was so comfy, from the bed to the terrace. Yes there are stairs and yes they are steep, but that is Amsterdam for you, but only two flights which is better than a lot of places.

Only down side was the outdoor light, it is auto which is great getting back to property in the dark. But we happened to be visiting during a heat wave, with the door open during the evening to cool off, it kept activating. Would be nice to be able to switch off if needed, just worried it would annoy surrounding neighbours

An excellent quiet rooftop location. Within easy walking distance of major museums and handy for airport bus. The area is peacefully residential with plenty of dining options.

It wasn't a problem for us but be aware that the way in is via some steep steps and a hatch that gives access to the roof area. Bare this in mind when packing.

Without exaggeration, it's a true Amsterdam landmark! One you'll want to return to... We will! Thank you for your hospitality, and a special thank you for the "special Latvian souvenir"!

Not worth it. It seems like a scam. No one answers calls or be present at the property. Paid full but didn't stay, as no one literally was there.

Loved the apartment, quirky entry, but I like quirky!

The afternoon sun on the terrace is glorious! The location is quiet and quite enjoyable.

The property is super comfortable, good bed good furniture and good use of space

The location was perfect, within a 20-minute walk of most major attractions, yet wonderfully quiet at night, which is ideal if a good night’s sleep is important to you. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the apartment was warm and cosy, with adjustable heating to suit personal preferences. The owners were incredibly kind and accommodating, allowing us early access as there was no guest immediately before us. This made our first day in the city much easier after an early journey, which we really appreciated. As others have mentioned, the staircase could be an issue for some guests, but we found that with a bit of care it was perfectly manageable. The kitchen has great potential, but would benefit from a few additional items to make it more convenient for preparing simple meals, such as a colander, spatula, sink plug for washing up, and a microwave or multi-function oven, especially as there is no built-in oven. We did notice a little dust in some areas, and the outside space could perhaps use a bit more attention. We understand it isn’t the summer season, but with some light upkeep it could better reflect the photos and feel more inviting year-round. Overall, a comfortable and well-located stay with thoughtful and accommodating hosts.

Excellent facilities, our host was so lovely and welcoming. We felt it peaceful and close to a tram spot for getting around easy. Would definitely recommend for people wanting a nice space with outdoor and indoor comfort. The location felt like we were in a lovely part of Amsterdam with a short walk from Vondelpark and the museums too so felt like we were really part of the local life.

The host was extremely friendly and welcoming. This was great after a long 24hr+ journey to get there from Australia. We often ran into him in the hallway downstairs and were given some great suggestions for sightseeing. The room itself is surprisingly large. We stayed inside a lot due to the weather, but this was not an issue.

The shower isn’t the best, the pressure isn’t great as the apartment is on top of an old Amsterdam canal house so we understand the plumbing isn’t the best. A microwave would be a handy addition to eat leftovers.

instructions were clear and concise! communication with the host was prompt and friendly. loved the unique qualities of this stay and the private balcony was amazing

the pillows were quite flat and uncomfortable. the bed is also low to the ground which was fine for us but could be a factor for someone else

This apartment is not nearly close to the pictures advertised in Booking. * Access: The entrance to the apartment is by climbing a “ladder” (literally a ladder, see photos) and opening a sort of hatch to appear in a roof. It is extremely difficult and uncomfortable accessing with suitcases * Comfort: There is a strong musty smell (in particular in the access) * Comfort: there is work ongoing in the entrance and it is all completely dirty * Comfort: the mattress and the pillows are extremely old and used, they are no longer in proper condition * Comfort: there are quite a few mosquitoes inside. They left the mosquito disinfectant in the apartment but it’s not enough * Comfort: the apartment is dirty and not well maintained * Roof: the roof doesn’t have any flower nor decorations as shown in the photos in Booking.com. It is totally empty, next to the neighbors and next to a sort of kindergarten school with kids making noise from early morning. After many stays in Amsterdam, this was clearly the worst place I’ve seen. NB: after 9:30 pm the host won’t answer your messages until the next day after 9 am.

Ein verstecktes Bijou inmitten Amsterdams Zentrum. Die Dachterrasse ist geräumig und einladend. Der Innenraum des Studios ist gepflegt, die Ausstattung geschmackvoll und funktionell. Es hat sogar fürs erste Teebeutel und Kaffeekapseln. Erwähnenswert ist der abenteuerliche Zustieg. Veloabstellplatz vor der Haustür ( in Amsterdam essentiell!

Locatie op de grachten van Amsterdam is een bijzonder leuke ervaring!

Het was 30 graden, een mobile airco zou een uitkomst zijn en een parasol. Maar dit is wel uitzonderlijk weer hier dus zeker niet negatief bedoeld.

Ich habe mein Akkulader im Appartment vergessen. Er wurde problemlos in die Schweiz geschickt. Sehr freundliches Ambiente und gute Organisation für Ein- und Ausschecken. Sehr gute Lage, alles (Restaurants, Einkaufsläden, Tram in unmittelbarer Nähe, man kann fast alles zu Fuss machen.

Die Küchenausstattung betreffend Geschirr könnte etwas grosszügiger und einheitlicher sein. Grundsätzlich ist alles Notwendige vorhanden. Das Bett könnte für mich etwas fester sein.

The space was much larger than expected. All the amenities we needed. We were very fortunate to have great weather while we were there, so much of my time was spent outside on the rooftop space with plants around (thought not yet in bloom). Video sent showing access to the building and space was very good. Accommodation was very clean.

It was not problem to manage the entry to the space up some steep narrow stairs, but it might be for others who find stairs a challenge.

we absolutely loved this place!!! it was the cutest stay ever, it made my birthday extra special. we was due to fly out late on the final day and the darja let us keep our stuff there for no extra charge. very easy to check in, darja gave us instructions that were very easy to follow. the location was perfect close to everything we wanted, most of the public transport wasnt far either. thank you so much we will be back❤️

The setting was second to none as were the facilities. Plenty of home comforts and a special Thankyou to Charise who gave us a very warm welcome.

Location is top! Quiet at night, vibrant during the evening!

Beautiful space in the 9 Streets area of Amsterdam. It is so quiet in the room that you will wake up to the sound of birdsong every day. The space is well cared for with a comfortable bed and ample room. The patio and room get great light (during summer) which make it nice to spend time on the patio or wake up with sunlight in the room. The bathroom is also very nice with a comfortable shower. Even the summer the room does not get too hot (using windows to control temperature, or the included fan). The hosts are accommodating and helpful. I enjoyed my interactions with them.

Some bugs get into the room, likely only an issue during the warmer time of the year (when I traveled).

The whole accommodation was absolutely amazing. Me and my partner loved every single part of it. We definitely recommend and really want to stay here again.

Terrace - Amazing. Location is very central and quiet at night. Lots of amazing restaurants and coffeeshops close by. We can use the small canal boats to chill and have a drink with friends. The Host Cherease is wonderful.

No smart TV

I loved this little gem. It’s definitely a funky entrance…you climb some stairs and access thru a porthole in the roof. The flat was extremely comfortable and clean and outfitted with many nice features. The terrace patio is divine in a warm spring day. It is extremely quiet and tranquil. The hosts are lovely and the neighborhood is friendly and “local”. If you want hotel amenities- you can pop next door for the Hyatt boutique hotel for a fabulous cocktail.

Clean and perfect for what we wanted

This place is a cozy rooftop gem in a perfect location in walking distance to pretty much everything. It has a gorgeous spacious outside terrace which feels very private and our host was friendly and welcoming. Would absolutely stay here again.

The apartment was gorgeous! Great outdoor terrace and it’s lovely and cosy inside.

The room is very spacious and the facilities are great especially the heaters. We love the balcony too. The owners are very nice as well.

The wifi isn’t very stable

The woman who helped check us in was so friendly. She showed us around the place and explained everything in detail, she had a very welcoming personality and made us feel right at home. The balcony was so cute and it was nice that our apartment doors/windows opened up fully to this beautiful outdoor/private space. We also felt extremely safe here, there was no moment that we felt unsafe in this location. We had 100% privacy and we’re able to fully relax .

The only thing we had a little Trouble with was the bathroom light was very dim which made it very difficult to get ready even during daytime hours . There also was not a full length mirror anywhere so that made getting ready for the day or night quite difficult as well . The apartment was equipped with a blow dryer which only blew cold air air at a very low pressure. And lastly this beautiful space had a tv but there were no streaming services equipped , we thought it might be nice if the tv had a firestick which only costs about $30.00 so when we were relaxing at the place we could watch Netflix our Hulu etc from our personal Accounts

The location is amazing: straight out the door onto Prinzengracht and the lovely canals. The apartment is modern, clean and had eveything I needed. Loved the roof garden and the quirky entrance! The host was super friendly and helpful showing me in. All in all, it was a brilliant experience.

The location of the house was quite near the main attractions and having the roof top seated area does give it a nice chill vibe (which we took advantage of in the mornings). It was also very spacious and it was nice that there were coffee / tea facilities available and a good sound system to play some tunes whilst winding down. For those who have never accessed a roof top via a horizontal door, this unit does provide that opportunity! Charise the host was also extremely helpful and informative. Didn't get to meet Darja the owner, but also very prompt in responding to my queries. Charise, it was a pleasure to have met you and when you do swing by KL, you know you can reach us via WenY* for some Laksa.

The stairways were challenging to access (albeit very authentic and original of Dutch houses), for guest with large suitcases, it can be rather daunting. But we managed!

We loved the roof terrace and the bed was amazingly comfortable! Charise was super friendly and helpful when we checked in and out and let us store our bags for the day.

Stayed here for my husband's birthday. Fantastic space, brilliant location and Darja & Charise were both amazing hosts. We had a great time - thank you! :)

The hosts, Darnja, Frank and Diane were superb. so welcoming. The location could not be any better.

I found the staircase leading to the rooftop absolutely charming. This was a crash course on how to become an Amsterdamer. I loved it but a little warning to those who are less agile or with lots of luggage.

Little things - sheets were rough, no microwave and the door lock needed super human strength.

Cute little place with good amenities. In canal district handy to galleries, restaurants, transit other attractions. Charise was great, very pleasant and helpful

Awkward to get into, out. Required climbing a steep staircase , opening ceiling hatch onto roof, then entering apartment. I had a couple of heavy bags, very difficult getting them up and down. Charise was most helpful with this, and in general. Noisy a couple of nights - electronic music down the street. Overall a good little place but not great for seniors due to access issue.

Would have loved having a second key set.

Location. Location. Location! Plus it was so nice to sit on our own private deck with a glass of wine.
