Alma Maya Resort!
An interesting concept, but not quite for us. The 40-minute drive down a rough dirt road sets the tone — remote is an understatement. Arriving to find you're the only guests there is genuinely unsettling, and that uneasy feeling is hard to shake even though the staff are friendly and the facilities are nice. The food was good and the people were kind, but being completely alone in the middle of nowhere killed the vibe. If you're going, bring a big group — otherwise it's just a bit too eerie to enjoy

Reviewed Jan 22, 2026We booked this place expecting a peaceful stay in the jungle near a cenote. Instead, the experience felt unsafe and very misleading.
The last 7 km to the property are on a rough dirt road with deep holes and large puddles, taking around 40 minutes to drive. We were afraid of getting stuck or damaging the car, and this was not clearly communicated in advance.
Upon arrival, we were met by two people. One appeared heavily intoxicated, which immediately made us feel unsafe. The other person did not speak English and stayed in the background, making the situation feel unclear and disorganized.
Two hours before arrival, we received a menu with many food options, so we did not buy food beforehand. At the property, we were told that the only available food was rice with chicken or fish. We were also the only guests, which added to the feeling of isolation.
Because we did not feel safe, we left immediately, despite it being dark and having to drive back on the same dangerous road. Our request for a refund was later refused, and the explanation was just so off.
This review is meant as a warning to other travelers. Important information about access, safety, staffing, and food was not disclosed. Had we known this, we would never have booked.

Reviewed Jan 11, 2026Beautiful location and surroundings. Perfect if you love nature and quiet. Extremely well-appointed room, with luxurious toiletries and even bathrobes which were great for popping out to the cenote for a morning swim. Delicious food for both evening meal and breakfast. Great personal service from Jorge who was the perfect host and even took us on a tour of the whole property. I would strongly recommend staying here, but only if you don't need bars and nightlife! We loved, just for that reason... The directions were excellent, just make sure you print them out or save to your phone as there is no internet or phone signal in the area. Best to arrive before dark or it would be hard to find. We really hope to return.
It was perfect
The property was amazing, the pods stunning and the location was so peaceful. We were welcomed by such a friendly team and they provided us with a lovely dinner and drinks. The dining area is such a beautiful spot. They cooked some separate food for my sister who has a nut allergy. The private cenote was amazing, we explored that in the morning. We were sadly only there for one night and arrived in the dark, so seeing the space in the daylight was even lovelier! The rooms are furnished beautifully and so so comfy. The privacy is also nice between each pod. Breakfast was also lovely.
Not the property but you do need to be prepared for the road in. We all were so it wasn’t a problem!

Reviewed Jan 2, 2026The place has a real jungle feel, and we had the cenote all to ourselves before other guests arrived the next day. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They’re happy to let you arrive early or relax in the common areas. The food was excellent too; I especially loved the prawn tacos and the fish of the day for dinner.
Really love the bubble and it was a very unique experience. They provide the yogo classes for retreat in the morning.
The road is a bit bumpy for about half an hour ,hopefully, as more properties develop in the area, the road conditions will improve over time. The hotel provides the correct location, but Apple Maps can be a bit confusing and led us to the wrong spot, while Google Maps guided us accurately. Hopefully in the future, road signage from the hotel would make arrival even more excellent.

Reviewed Apr 5, 2025Alma Maya is a hidden gem, away from the crowd and busy Cancun. The place is beautiful, with lots of green and fresh air around. Our room was amazing, very private and with all the ammenities to have a well-deserved rest. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The food we had during our stay was very tasty. We also used the gym, the lovely private cenote and the meditation room, and on our last night we had a firepit. The staff is incredibly kind, helpful and attentive. All in all a great stay!
The road leading to Alma Maya is not ideal, but that's the beauty of this hidden location. We hired a transport which took us from Cancun airport to Alma Maya, and it was a +1hr drive. However this is an expensive option, given the distance and the road conditions. It's best if you can rent a car.

Reviewed Feb 28, 2025We loved the nature, the space designed for the dome, and the cenote. The massage was good and was reasonably priced, more than what I paid would had been too much. However, I was given a massage menu with prices and then they wanted to charge me more.
Other than that, the place is great to disconnect from life routines and reconnect with your partner and relax. It’s a beautiful place and the dome is 1000% times better than the bubble. The jacuzzi water is water from the cenote so it’s going to be cold, but we got our feet in.
Cristian the manager of the hotel was amazing and will take care of you personally during your stay. He made sure our stay was outstanding!
The food was great but the menu is limited and given the location of the hotel, it’s hard to venture out for lunch or dinner.
It’s a must have experience to stay here at least one in a lifetime, we would love to go back. 2 nights was a good amount to enjoy the place.
The amenities listed on the list such as bum fire and Mayan dance show was not even mentioned when we got to the property. I asked for a sound bath and I never heard anything about whether it was available or not.
The restaurant menu needs improvement on variety; they could benefit by adding seafood and by having different dishes for lunch and dinner, as of now they have the same menu for lunch and dinner and it’s limited.
The road to and out of the hotel is dangerous and extremely rough with lots of potholes and you can drive 5-10 miles per hour because it’s so bad. On our way out we got a flat tire and we had to drive the car like that until we got to Puerto Morelos because that is the closest town where you can find a place that could fix it and $10 later to get it fixed.

Staff was so polite and helpful.
We also had breakfast and dinner there, meals were so delicious.
I always wanted to try to stay in bubble hotel, and my dream came through. We stayed in bubble hotel with small private pool in front. I was absolutely amazed. I really recommend this place.
To reach to this place there is a small 20 min ride road. It was quite ruined. There were big holes, no asphalt at all. Driving there was like driving in a rally. We had SUV and eventhough we had SUV it was uncomfortable to drive.

The private cenote is full of fish so it's not very clear. There is a wooden walkway at water level so you can check it out without swimming.
The main thing to know is that the hotel is down 7km of unpaved road in fair to poor condition (some sections are fine, but there are many large pits and potholes, some rocky and some muddy). A SUV is highly recommended.
The staff is small and needs to multitask so don't expect restaurant-level service when you dine. The menus are only in English with prices in USD, but none of the staff speak English so there was some miscommunication.

Reviewed Jan 12, 2025Alma Maya is one of most unique places I have ever stayed at. There is an aura of tranquility and a special atmosphere that permeates the property. My husband and I just returned from our 5 day stay, and it was amazing. The private cenote is beautiful, the domes are wonderful to stay in, with complete privacy and cloud-like beds. The food is fresh and so unique - regional recipes and ingredients are used with a real flair. Off-site trips and on-site massages were arranged for us. But it is the staff at Alma Maya that makes it so special. From the time we arrived, everyone we met went above and beyond to create a special experience for us. Jorge, Cristian, America, Paulina and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make this a memorable trip for us. We hope to return again!
If you go, just be prepared for a slow bumpy 25 mins or so of dirt road into/out of the property, and factor that into all your plans. We rented a stick shift tiny car from Localiza in Cancun and it was perfect. Try to arrive during the day, and spend at least 2-3 days there. The massages arranged for us were very good, and they also offer some unique ceremonies related to the Mayan traditions of the area that we’d love to try next time. Our day trip to Puerto Morelos and a guided tour to Tulum and Coba (arranged by our concierge Paulina) were great, but returning back to Alma Maya made us appreciate it even more. Bring a book, lie in a hammock, and enjoy. It is a special place in the Yucatan!

The amenities offered are very unique as well. The restaurant offers very good and simple food prepared there. There are also a few board games and a pin pong table to play while being there. The cenote is quite incredible, only for the guests. When we were there we had the cenote all for us which was an incredible experience. There are other services offered which we did not have time to try.
If you are looking for something different and outside the chaos of Cancun this is really a nice place to stay.
Only two things to note:
1. It is not too easy to reach the location with a normal car. You might prefer to get transport to the accomodation or get a SUV. I think it rained in the period we went so the wholes in the ground were quite large and it took us a long time to reach the hotel. For sure do not recommend to travel after sunset.
2. It does get a little humid in the rooms at night.
