I had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was exceptional, from the beautiful and peaceful surroundings to the comfort and cleanliness of the room. The room was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained. The cleanliness throughout the entire hotel was truly impressive, and the peaceful atmosphere made our stay even more relaxing. I would also like to give a special thank you to all the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, welcoming, and always willing to help. Their genuine care and attention to detail made us feel truly valued and well taken care of. A very special mention goes to the chef 👨‍🍳. The food was absolutely delicious, and what impressed us most was his flexibility. He was happy to prepare whatever we requested according to our preferences rather than simply insisting that we choose from the existing menu. This personal touch made the dining experience even more special. Overall, this was an exceptional experience from beginning to end. Beautiful place, spotless rooms, wonderful staff, peace and tranquility, and amazing food. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely love to stay here again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This hotel feels like being a lord in the 19th century. A white glove service, in one of the most beautiful spots of Sri Lanka. A must see hotel.

Nuestra estancia en el Bellwood Manor fue una delicia. La propiedad en sí es imponente; perfectamente mantenida, impecable y preciosamente decorada. La habitación era increíble, manteniendo la tradición y el espíritu inglés, pero con todo tipo de comodidades y lujos actuales. Las instalaciones están muy bien cuidadas y cuentan con muchas opciones de entretenimiento (spa, sala de lectura, billar, bar...) que hacen que no quieras salir del hotel. Tuvimos el placer de cenar en su restaurante y tanto los sabores como la presentación de los platos estaban cuidados al detalle. Por último, quisiera destacar el trato de cada uno de los miembros del personal, quienes fueron extremadamente amables y serviciales. Pocas veces hemos encontrado personal tan amable. En definitiva, un hotel del que disfrutarás cada segundo y del que no te querrás ir. ¡Felicidades a todo el equipo!

El baño no nos resultó tan cómodo, ya que era algo compacto; pero no lo consideramos relevante. El precio de la cena fue bastante caro.

The welcome was warm and friendly, the staff was welcoming and very helpful. We were given an explanation of each part of the hotel. The building is special, with an interesting story behind it. We had the 6-course dinner, which was excellent.

The level of maintenance of the room was not as expected from a luxury hotel. There was a blockage in the shower that was not addressed, even though we asked for it, and a bathtub hose was spraying outside the bathtub.

Beware if you look for a quiet place! We went in our honeymoon, and we could not even sleep 5 hours. We had extremely load noise (+50db) from the afternoon until 2am! Not only that day, next day I tried to have a nap and back a terrible noise from street speakers. They did not warn us of any public event, but that is not the only problem, they do not attend and help you. You will find yourself alone at night, with a fake 24/7 service answering... never. Then we found another number and they finally answered 30 minutes later. No solution, not earplugs, nothing. Be careful because they will not try to solve it and of course compensate in any way. Worst hotel from 9 hotels in the full honeymoon. Never coming back.

L’établissement est exceptionnel, très confortable, bien placé par rapport au centre-ville mais au calme.Sans doute le meilleur hôtel de Nuwara.Le personnel est très compétent et sympathique et formé aux établissements de luxe. Le cuisinier est exceptionnel également.

Le nec plus ultra du service. Tout le personnel est à vos petits soins. Que ce soit le chef ou la SPA thérapeute, tous sont exceptionnels. Je vous laisse la surprise de leur manière de vous dire au revoir.

Beautiful hotel, good hotel rooms. Good massage when we first were doing check-in. Property has both positives and negatives (will write more details below). 1 hr free in Spa (sauna/pool). Snooker table. Tasty breakfast.

The problem is not the property - but we rank properties vs how much they cost. In our opinion - the cost wasn’t worth it, and for how much rooms are we expected more. See feedback below 1. Other services cost too much - Spa we considered doing but 3x, 4x more expensive than what you would find in other places (on positive the masseuse is VERY GOOD , we could tell from the free 5min shoulder massage on check in) 2. Hotel offers 1hr in Spa (Finish sauna, steam room, hot pool), which is nice but: near pool windows there is some mold (presumably from humidity). You need to balance “hot” spa with some “cold” water as refresher. For example: we sat in a very hot pool, went to even hotter steam room, and then to even hotter Finish sauna. After that you sit there - wanting like a cooler area, but you don’t have one, your choice is just to return to another hot area. 3. During check in - we asked about cost of breakfast, were told USD25 pp (we thought ok a bit expensive but ok, for comparison we stayed at similar priced hotels though out our trip - and breakfast was either included or it was 500-1500 LKR). Bill arrives at the end 10000 LKR pp (so 20k LKR or 65USD for two, above stated during the check in…)

Really nice hotel with friendly and very helpful staff. Dinner was amazing 6 course meal, with the chef explaining each course. Breakfast was also great. We enjoyed using the sauna and plunge pool too.

Window above our door meant light comes in from the hall through the night without being able to block it out.

Food pricing could be made more apparent. We had to hunt a bit to find it. Breakfast rate wasnt advised until we got the room bill. But still good value.

The old property and its setting are beautiful. We had a wonderful welcome from Shan, and the 5 minute shoulder massage was much appreciated. The spa facilities were a nice treat.

Like all old properties, the soundproofing isn't great. We were in a room on the ground floor and could hear every movement from the room above and from the reception hall. My main frustration with the Bellwood is the restaurant. It's sold as a high class, personalised service but this can be to the detriment of the guest. I enquired in advance about an a la carte menu as I knew we would not do justice to their six course menu. You have to order your meal a few hours in advance because they don't have anything pre-prepared; good in theory, but how do I know the portion sizes and whether I'm going to have room for dessert? None of our a la carte food met expectations. Breakfast was equally if not more frustrating; there is no menu. The chef explained some of the options available but didn't mention the hoppers that had been served to another table, then front of house told another table about English breakfast options but didn't mention the hoppers or Eggs Benedict. People are missing out because there is no menu. At the equivalent of £25pp I was shocked at the experience. Front of house staff also need to be trained to take tea, coffee and juice orders from all guests at a table; I had to call them back to order my husband's coffee (as they just walked off after taking my order), and another couple ended up sharing a fruit juice because they weren't both asked.

Beautiful authentic English facilities in an old building. Beautiful rooms and attention is paid to details :-)

We booked a deluxe king room based on the photos provided via booking.com. We got a different room when we arrived which was smaller and not similar to the photos provided. On our first night we had to stay in this smaller different room, as the hotel was fully booked but on our second night, the hotel upgraded us to the best suite they had as compensation. The staff have great intentions and have the intention of having good manners but sometimes it feels like they are overly watching/observing every move you make which made it less comfortable for us to use the common areas.

Amazing staff, amazing food, lovely property with lots of nice areas to relax. Great walkable location for town, lake, race course and to Single Tree Hill. It would be very hard not to like this property - we stay in a lot of hotels and this is boutique quality.

It isn’t in England so I could visit more easily! One very small recommendation would be to soften some of the decor with some subtle wallpaper or cushions. And provide more hooks or storage space in the bathroom.

To stay here is an event. The facilities and gardens are stunning and a delight to behold. The staff are exceptionally warm and engaging and each guest is made to feel very special and looked after.

Not being given full options around in-house dining meant we believed the multi-course al la carte dinner was our only choice which came to $200US. Discontent around a meal was an issue that wasn’t quickly dealt with and only resolved at the end of our stay after three nights. It was resolved and we would stay again but be prepared to invest $$$ in this special experience!

One of the best hotels we’ve stayed at! The property is absolutely beautiful, and the staff were exceptionally warm and attentive. The chef went out of his way to cater to my husband’s vegetarian preferences, which made our stay even more special. Truly outstanding hospitality — highly recommended!

Что завтрак, что обед, что ужин - хоть английскую королеву приглашай - ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНО!!! Были просто в восхищении в ресторане. Уборка абсолютно незаметна. просто чисто чисто, ты только отвернешься, а уже прибрали. Восхитительный массаж по приезду, мы не удержались и посетили СПА. Чай и кофе в номере отличные, камин, все стилизовано под старую Англию. Честно говоря, приехав в тот климат, не ждала ничего хорошего, но так много приятных сюрпризов, даже жаль, что мало времени провели в этом отеле.

Unser Aufenthalt im Bellwood Manor hat uns sehr gut gefallen! Die ServicemitarbeiterInnen zählen mit zu den besten und aufmerksamsten, die wir bis dato in Hotels erlebt haben! Auch die Kommunikation über WhatsApp klappte mit ihnen super unkompliziert und schnell. Die Wellness Area ist ebenfalls sehr schön und einladend. Das Sri Lanka Frühstück ist unfassbar lecker und sollte unbedingt probiert werden! Das Abendessen ist zwar nicht günstig, aber jedenfalls empfehlenswert - der Küchenchef ist sehr sympathisch und man merkt seine Leidenschaft für seine Kreationen. Das Menü beim Abendessen war bei uns westlich - wir persönlich fänden ein paar lokale Einflüsse bei den Gerichten allerdings noch interessanter. Alles in allem ein perfekter Aufenthalt und wärmstens zu empfehlen!

Hotel runs extremely well with existing team - they take full ownership of their areas, very proactive. The man of the house who takes care of your stay from A to Z - Neranjan - flexible and caring. Dining and beverage you will be delighted by service of Pathum, Chanaka. Level of cleanliness is exceptional by housekeeping team of Chandru and others. Service was flawless, staff very welcoming and all go the extra mile to make things comfortable and easy. The food was great, and on the day we left they went out of their way to sort food for us to take away very early. The interior is amazing, gardens and spa are great. The latter, you book out for an hour session when you want it so is very private too. 10/10

The Bellwood Manor is an excellent boutique hotel. It offers a quaint reminder of the colonial era with exceptional service and represents Sri Lanka very well. The staff are personal, attentive and responsive to any/all needs. The entire staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. Truly a remarkable service experience. The breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner service are designed to be personal and enjoyable; they will tailor the selection to your preferences. The property is exceptionally well maintained with a detail eye obvious in all the staff and leadership.

The Bellwood Manor was by far the best hotel we stayed at during our week in Sri Lanka – and honestly, one of the best places I’ve ever stayed at in all my travels. A charming manor full of character, set in a stunning location, where every single detail is thought through with so much care. From the moment we arrived, the staff were absolutely amazing – kind, attentive, and incredibly caring. We were truly pampered from start to finish, and I’ve never experienced service like that before. They even took the time to share the fascinating history of the manor, which made our stay even more special. The quality of both the interior and exterior is outstanding. The woodwork, the materials, the decor… everything is done with impeccable taste and gives off such a warm and luxurious atmosphere. Even the garden is immaculately maintained – the grass was trimmed like a golf course, which just shows how much pride they take in every corner of the property. The dinner was like something from a gourmet restaurant – refined, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The pool and sauna area, located in the old stables, is absolutely fabulous – luxurious, peaceful, and completely private for us. Our room was gorgeous, but the real standout was the exceptional bathroom – spacious, elegant, and just perfect. We also loved the billiard room, super classy, and the cozy bar, perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. We were genuinely and sincerely blown away by this place, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. One thing is certain: we’ll definitely be coming back!

Super comfy rooms, great private spa and outstanding staff

Beautiful hotel with fantastic facilities & excellent level of service.

The property is situated on top of the hill overlooking the horse racetrack. You can see the whole valley! The food was incredible - breakfast and a 6 course dinner. We took advantage of the lawn and played a few rounds of croquet. There is a spa on the property with a sauna and jacuzzi that we used in the evening. We also went on a horseback ride - the horses are brought to you. It was so memorable and an absolutely wonderful stay.

We had our room opposite of the Check-in, it was very loud, less privacy and bit cold. Otherwise the rooms offer s beautiful English Interior.

Truly magnificent property that sweeps you make to yesteryear. The offerings, the staff and the rooms were sensational . Another standout is the food, Michelin standard 6 course meal to be remembered and great value at $60.

Everything was excellent

The hotel was amazing - clean, big rooms, well appointed, great facilities, etc. But the highlight was definitely the staff - they went out of their way to make our stay special. Special thanks to Janaka, who was a gem!

Absolutely immaculate presentation from the grounds to the bedrooms, restaurant, bar and all communal areas. Staff professional. Food was exceptional both the breakfast and the degustation menu…high quality food and fantastic presentation. The chef does an excellent job. The trainee waitresses were great also. Liked one could exclusively book the pool, sauna and steam room for one hour each day.

Apart from the excellent degustation menu there were no other offerings for dinner which was a shame and resulted in us venturing out for the 2nd and 3rd nights of our stay. The bathroom was small and had poor lighting. The staff in spa lacked the professionalism of the other staff …two of the three days of our stay the sauna and steam room were not ready for our allotted time.
