W15 Lake Gregory

The staff here were excellent and really tried to make this stay as comfortable as they could. They were incredibly apologetic for the situation. The issue with this hotel is not their fault and that needs to be understood by anyone who books this place. The breakfast and service was delightful. It's a historic property and that is usually a plus to us.

So much was of a poor standard for a supposed 5 star luxury stay. It was incredibly disappointing overall. We spent two nights at the W15 and were originally located in the Anderson room (back of property) before being moved to the Horton room (front of property). This was marginally better as it had a slight buffer from the sound coming from the military camp directly behind the property. The most important thing for anyone wanting to book this place is that it is incredibly noisy. The walls are paper thin and if one person walks through the property or speaks, you will hear it, even from the other rooms. If you are staying in the rooms at the rear of the property, you are right next to the military camp. That means you will hear reveille trumpets every morning at 5 am, plus at least 45 mins of chanting. Also, there was a giant festival in front of the property with loud music that went on until midnight. You can also hear through to the kitchen, despite them trying to reduce noise and close doors. Overall the noise was pretty unbearable and meant we did not have a well-rested stay. If you can sleep through that, then you might be ok. My partner even with earplugs could clearly hear everything. The Anderson room bathroom needs a full refurb. It had black mold on the ceiling and smelled of the sewer. The location is inconvenient as it is quite far from the center of the town. The walk is along backstreet and unlit roads, so it would be unwise for solo or female travelers to walk this route at night. The restaurant had a relatively limited selection of uninspired offerings for dinner, although that is somewhat understandable considering there are only 7 rooms. We chose to eat elsewhere both nights.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at W15 Lake Gregory. What a beautiful little boutique hotel! With only six rooms, it has an intimate, homely atmosphere that makes you feel welcomed from the moment you arrive. The indoor swimming pool was a lovely addition and made our stay even more enjoyable. The weather in Nuwara Eliya was wonderfully cool during our visit, around 17–19°C during the day and 12–13°C at night. The occasional thunderstorms and showers added to the charm, creating the perfect atmosphere for quiet, cozy evenings in front of the fireplaces. What truly stood out for us was the highly personalized and genuinely thoughtful service. From the moment we arrived, throughout our time at the hotel, and even in the way meals were planned and arranged in advance, everything felt carefully considered and tailored to us. It is this level of personal attention that makes W15 Lake Gregory feel quite unique. The hotel is in a wonderful location overlooking Lake Gregory and is highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing escape. We also appreciated the attention to quality throughout the hotel, from the fresh ingredients sourced from their garden whenever possible to the excellent in-room tea and coffee and the quality toiletries provided in the bathrooms. We would definitely return to W15 Lake Gregory on our next trip to Sri Lanka. It is a special place for a quiet, intimate, and cozy getaway. Finally, we would like to extend our sincere and warmest regards to the hotel management and the entire team. Thank you for such a warm welcome and for taking such personalized care of us throughout our stay. Your hospitality was truly appreciated and made our visit all the more memorable.

The hotel was very wonderful and the receptionist was friendly to me and provided me with services. The Junior Suite was very wonderful. I also don't forget the wonderful restaurant staff in terms of providing me with all the orders I need, and the buffet was varied and delicious,

The location was perfect . The staff were so friendly and helpful with everything we needed .

The restaurant was having work done - ( which I understand it needs to be done ) however we weren’t told when we booked . This meant we had no choice but to eat out and there was alot of noise during the day , as a result of the work . Also we had to move rooms due to a hot water issue - the staff were very apologetic in both this scenarios

Beautiful location. The views from the veranda are wonderful yet it is only a short distance from the town. There is no reception desk. Which feels odd at first but is consistent with the hotel creating a “home from home” feel where you can just walk from the lawns into the lounge. Both breakfast and dinner were superb experiences

Breakfast was very normal. The bread was not toasted and crisp when we received it. Croissant didn’t taste good, felt like margarine or bad butter was used. Other than this we enjoyed the breakfast.

The location overlooking Lake Gregory is genuinely beautiful. The rooms have a charming colonial feel and are comfortable enough. The pool is decent. If this were a property you just slept in and left, it would be fine. The place is well maintained and clean.

Day 1: We mentioned it was my father's birthday. The staff made an issue about the date not matching his passport. My father is 75 years old — back in his time in India, school records routinely assigned the same default birthday to students. We weren't asking for anything extraordinary. We even offered to pay for a cake. After the unnecessary fuss, they backtracked and said it was complimentary anyway. The damage was done — what should have been a sweet moment started with an argument. Day 2 Breakfast: We asked if we could have breakfast at one of the outdoor tables overlooking the lake. The view is the whole reason you come here, after all. We were told no — some vague excuse about the table setup not working for our group. There were 2 tables sitting right there. We then asked for a couple of extra vadas because the children loved them. Again, no — apparently they had made exactly 4 and couldn't possibly make more. For a hotel charging $250 a night, you cannot make a few extra vadas for a child? Day 3 Breakfast: We switched to the English breakfast hoping for a better experience. Once again, refused outdoor seating. The breakfast itself was underwhelming — the "bacon" was a single strip, and honestly, we weren't even sure it was pork. Every single interaction with the staff felt like a negotiation we were losing. Nothing was ever "yes, of course" or "let me see what I can do." It was always "no" first, with a thin excuse attached. For a property at this price point, the rigidity is baffling. We've stayed at far cheaper hotels in both India and Sri Lanka that bent over backwards to make guests feel welcome. We came to make a memory for my father's birthday. We left with a bad taste — quite literally and figuratively. I cannot recommend W15 Lake Gregory unless you plan to enjoy the view from your room and expect absolutely nothing from the staff.

The old bungalow is in a great condition and the whole stay moves you back in time. Friendly staff and superb food!

We had a wonderful stay. The service provided by Mr. Lakishan, Mr. Nazeem and Mr. Soyza was excellent, and communication was smooth throughout. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The view was amazing and made the stay even more enjoyable. The food was superb and was thoughtfully arranged according to our requirements and preferences. Overall, it was great value for money. Highly recommended!

A particularly delightful surprise was the covered heated pool, which feels like a sanctuary in the cool highland climate. Swimming while the mist rolls over the hills outside is a small but unforgettable luxury. The butler service is exceptional, and our personal butler Nasim deserves special mention. Attentive, warm, and genuinely kind, he embodies the kind of hospitality that transforms a pleasant stay into something truly special. Overlooking the tranquil Gregory Lake, the hotel offers a serene setting that perfectly complements the calm rhythm of the hill country. When it came time to leave, the farewell felt surprisingly difficult. What began as a warm welcome ended with an equally heartfelt goodbye — including a sincere hug that perfectly reflected the genuine hospitality we experienced throughout our stay. Even after just one night, W15 felt like the sort of place one leaves already planning the return. We would come back without hesitation.

Extremely comfortable. Great showers, huge rooms and bathrooms, unbelievably good food. Lovely sunny terrace with comfortable armchairs, away from the busy centre of Nuwara Eliya. Very helpful and lively staff.

Kept awake for two hours from 4am by Buddhist chanting from a nearby monastery. Bring earplugs!

Loved the serene atmosphere and the outlook over the lake. With just a handful of rooms, this gave a lovely homely feel with high ceilings and magnificent chandeliers. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff or the excellent Manager Stacy. Our room was huge and our bathroom incorporated a sauna. Breakfast was delicious with a good choice. They also grow all their own organic fruit and vegetables. Would definitely recommend.

The indoor pool was not particularly inviting.

Pasamos un poco de frío. Cuando nosotros fuimos hacía bastante frío y nos dijeron que debido al tamaño del salón, hotel, etc. no era posible calentar bien el alojamiento.

We had a wonderful stay at W15 Lake Gregory, Nuwara Elia. Jim the manager and Shimal the head butler were brilliant and were ably supported by their whole team. Jim went over and beyond to help me access the nearby army camp (a school previously) and get into the Hill Club, which was closed, no access at all due to renovations. At both I was following up on family connections while in the area. Without Jim's help, I had no chance Shimal and team were brilliant keeping everything so clean, food was wonderful. Breakfast and tea in the garden overlooking the lake is a must We walked in to Eliya initially to get our bearings but then got tuktuk, arranged by Shimal or team. Even though we had some rainy moments, it was great fun

The main downside is the noisy fair that has set up further along the lake. It does blast out loud music early evening but it then dies down later. The whole staff apologised and said they were working with other local groups to quieten down or shut down. Good luck

Das Team rund um Jim war sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Er hat uns sehr geholfen bei unserer Abreise als unser Zug nach Ella nicht gefahren ist. Das Hotel selbst ist so kolonial wie auf den Bildern. Das Abendessen und Frühstück ist sehr zu empfehlen und total lecker.

Einzige Verbesserungsmöglichkeit: Details in der Ausstattung des Hauses können verbessert werden, zum Beispiel der Toilettensitz in unserem Zimmer oder die Tatsache, dass die TV Fernbedienung eine leere Batterie hatte.

Frühstück im Garten mit überragenden Ausblick, wirklich sehr nettes und hilfsbereites Personal (insbesondere durch Butler Lakishan Mr.Jim), also 1A Service. Das Ambiente bzw. Atmosphäre im Hotel

Paar Flecken auf der Bettwäsche (kein Dreck, Aber nicht rausgewaschen). Drumherum gibt es ein paar Nebengeräusche, aber die sind nicht permanent störend

Хочу обратить внимание , что матрас на кровати вогнутый ( износился). Лично мне было не удобно спать и нам пришлось съехать. Если бы собственник устранил данный недостаток , то все было бы отлично. Спальное место самое важное в отеле.

Superbe hôtel avec une très belle vue sur le lac. Toute l’équipe de l’hôtel est adorable, très serviable avec beaucoup d’élégance. De la prise en charge à l’arrivée jusqu’au checkout, tout a été parfait. La chambre est très confortable et très bien équipée. La décoration fait penser à une maison de style colonial. La literie est de grande qualité pour un sommeil réparateur. L’hôtel en lui-même est très charmant, et il ne compte que six chambres pour un accueil personnalisé et privilégié. Chaque chambre porte un nom à la place d’un numéro. La piscine est agréable et le potager est très bien entretenu. Le petit déjeuner est excellent, prenez-le sur la terrasse, c’est encore mieux. Les vélos mis à disposition sont de belle qualité et permettent d’aller se balader librement dans les envions de Nuwara Elya. Je recommande vivement cet hôtel !

Very homely vibe. They only have 6 rooms so the attention to the guests is great. They customize things for you - like they changed a recipe according to our liking and also we needed a hot water bag so they arranged it for us. Very very comfortable stay. Bedding could be rehauled. The bed wasnt the most comfortable, but I am sure it will be solved soon.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, however soundproofing between the rooms and the corridor could be improved to ensure minimal disturbance during the night.

The place is absolutely beautiful very nice view calm environment, beautiful gardens. We ate at the hotel and they really do have an amazing chef locally grown vegetables. My husband had lamb. I had fish. We were just in paradise then came the bad surprise, the rooms are lovely With great pillows. Nice bathroom items, good quality tea, and coffee. We enjoyed all the beautiful furniture, but there is one big but : The bed ! Thank you to the staff that were all really nice.

The bed ! It was really worn out and the mattress was deformed . I just couldn’t sleep and feel sore. I did suggest to the owner that they buy new mattresses ASAP. Then it would be perfect .

This was an unforgettable experience overall. Staff made us feel at home, in a beautiful Victorian mansion overseeing the lake. The hotel was the best part of our sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya. Our butler Shimal took care of everything in a professional manner and we thank him for this.

We loved our stay here - it was perfect for our stop off in Nuwara Eliya. The staff were so accommodating - making us a early breakfast for our hike in Horton Plains. The location is unbeatable. On a hillside overlooking the lake and a rich green field of horses and cows. The staff (and our butler) are all about making sure our every need is met. Beautiful old world accommodations. Heated towel racks and the best cappuccino in Sri Lanka.
