Old Colonial building which is rare to find in Sri Lanka, Staff was amazing and very flexible with the checkout and checkin time. They provide mobile radiator since the region is cold.

Breakfast quality

Great chef and the location has most things in walking distance. The best part for me was the bed, after so many bad experiences while traveling here in Sri Lanka, for the first time I had a proper (sized) bed. The breakfast and setting just made the whole experience complete. Would definitely recommend.

Friendly staff and tasty breakfast. but the place itself need some proper remodeling. We had nice hot water in the shower and the was strong once it start running.

The biggest issue we had was the bed and the mattress. It was old, extremely soft and used way too many times. Me and my wife dont usually have trouble falling asleep but here we stayed up for a long time. We had rain and quiet a strong wind during our stay and the room was cold, the wind was getting inside through the holes around the windows and doors, we had to use the provided heater to make it a bit warm inside. The walls looked a bit wet too.

Da Frühstück war gelinde gesagt eine Katastrophe. Wir haben auf 8:15 bestellt, weil wir um 9 loswollten. Es kam um kurz vor 9. Die Pancakes waren in der Mitte nicht gar und hatten einen seltsamen Geschmack, das Spiegelei war ok aber die 2 Scheiben Toast trocken und nicht getoastet, ein Plastikpäckchen Butter und Marmelade und eine Scheibe „Bacon“ (was auch immer das war, definitiv kein Bacon). Nie wieder.

I booked this hotel last-minute as a backup option, drawn in by the 5-star classification and glowing reviews — 3 nights, at a steep price, with no real alternative available. The interior is dated and poorly maintained, far from what a 5-star rating suggests. I was the only guest in the entire hotel — after my stay, I understood why. After the first night I asked to check out early. Staff agreed and promised a refund for the unused night. I asked for cash on the spot but was told none was available, and it would be sorted out afterward. That never happened. Multiple follow-up messages went unanswered. No refund, no explanation. Be cautious if you’re considering booking here — the rating doesn’t match the reality.

The hotel lives in a past of grandeur, but now needs a good refresh. Even small improvements like new bed linen, new towels, new curtains would make the difference, and justify the 5 stars this establishment is boasting. Thanks to the manager for having listened to me on these points.

En la ciudad hace frío y el hotel a pesar de tener un calefactor en la habitación no lo tenía en el baño. Salía poca agua caliente de la ducha y sumado al frío que hacía no era muy agradable.

the hotel is UNSAFE! black toxic mould in bedrooms, on walls, bathroom, on bedding. kitchen fridge is filthy and very unclean, would not eat here even if you paid me! we had to store medicine overnight in fridge. kitchen vermin (rats), seen at night when had to move medicine from fridge due to power cut. hotel mgt refuses to contact me after i have messaged them through booking.com hotel staff at location recognises building issues and referred me to their head office, head office doesnt get back in touch, i am opening a dispute with them and seek booking.com assistance. baby cot in hotel is broken and mattress has black toxic mould, very unsafe for any child! carpets are unclean, stained and dirty. bedrooms smell old, damp and foisty. bedroom linen is stained. the credibility of these previous booking.com reviews is very very questionable- be warned! El personal es muy amable, nos facilitó el transporte y atendió todas nuestras peticiones. La ubicación es buena, está cerca de la ciudad y puedes caminar por la zona sin necesidad de usar tuk tuk. Es un hotel antiguo, elegante, con unos bellos jardines, venido a menos con el paso de los años. La cama era enorme y muy cómoda.

Las instalaciones están bastante descuidadas: humedades en todas las paredes, el agua de la ducha salía demasiado caliente o demasiado fría, etc.

Staff was not very welcoming. "If you want tea, you have to pay". Room barely has any windows/natural light. Interior dated, bit dirty, leaking roof. Breakfast was so-so. Very bad value for money, Sri Lanka has a lot better to offer

Salles de bains de propreté approximative, douche écossaise (froid ou brûlant), gouttières trouées qui tambourinent toute la nuit… les enfants n’ont pas mangé leur petit déjeuner qui n’était pour tout le monde vraiment pas bon.

Très belle maison coloniale avec décoration anglaise. Emplacement proche du centre et du lac, parfait! Petit déjeuner très bon, vous pouvez choisir entre plusieurs formules, tout est bon! Le restaurant est pratique pour le soir mais malheureusement le chef n’était pas là exceptionnellement quand nous y étions. Nous avons pu manger mais toute la carte n’était pas disponible. Mais c’était tout de même très bon.

Superb location, friendly staff.

Noise - although not because of the accommodation. Between live music, a nearby dog barking all night and rude Indian guests slamming doors, talking loudly in communal areas - it was tough to get a good nights sleep. This is not the accommodations fault though.

The staff are the true heart of this hotel. Their care, kindness and genuine desire to make guests feel welcome were exceptional. This is a charming boutique hotel that retains its original character and traditional style. It does show its age in places, but that is part of the experience and adds to its atmosphere rather than taking away from it. The hotel sits above the main town of Nuwara Eliya, which I found to be an excellent location. It is only about five minutes from the centre, yet far enough away to escape the traffic and noise. The gardens are beautiful, with an old English feel, manicured lawns and colourful flower beds. The chef also deserves special mention. He went out of his way to prepare local cuisine in a way that suited a less fiery European palate, while still preserving the flavour and character of the dishes. Above all, it is the warmth and attentiveness of the staff that make this hotel memorable. They are without doubt its greatest asset.

Hotellet utger sig för att vara 5-stjärnigt på booking.com. Detta stämmer absolut inte! Det finns mycket som kan förbättras. Frukosten var inte speciellt god. Man kan välja mellan flera alternativ, men inget av de var riktigt bra. Det är omöjligt att ställa in duschen på rätt temperatur. Antingen blir det alldeles för varmt eller alldeles för kallt. Ingen ventilation i sovrum och badrum gör att det blir instängt och fuktigt om du inte öppnar fönstret. Vacker trädgård, men den kunde vi inte njuta av eftersom det låg tvätt överallt på möbler och gräs. (Se bild) Kranen i biden var lös och det droppade vatten hela tiden, vilket färgade biden gul. Absolutely wonderful stay, loved every second. Like an old English Manor House hotel, with super-attentive and thoughtful staff. The location is fantastic, it’s a ten-minute walk into the town centre (at most) so nice and quiet at night. The room was really cosy and the bed incredibly comfortable. It has a front lounge room where you can have a cup of tea and read a book or watch the cricket on tv. Breakfast was very pleasant with a number of options and very generous portions. I honestly cannot think of anything I would change about this place. As you can tell from my lengthy review, I would re-book this place in an instant!

The hotel is a heritage building that once housed the British governor. It has a lovely old colonial feel, very authentic. Staff were welcoming and check-in was very quick. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. Decent breakfast - massive portions!

Guests shouldn't be pressured in anyway to give 10/10 reviews. As a traveller, high scores should be earned on merit not just kindness. Your hotel should speak for itself.

Large characterful but tired colonial bungalow. Beautiful cared for gardens and large rooms. Comfortable bed and ok wi fi and hot water shower. I do struggle to see this property at anything more than an average albeit historical guest house. Certainly nowhere near the five star rating. Shocked and suspicious of the high reviews.

Bad breakfast both days. Worst in three weeks. Stained bedding, rough towels, nothing clean enough and second night with no restaurant service whatsoever . This may have been a blessing given the poor quality of the food the first night. It was off season but the manager seemed totally out of his comfort zone.

Property is in prime location, very cooperative staff, good food, overall amazing experience. Will surely recommend the property to my friends.

Royal Cocoon in Nuwara Eliya is a lovely place to stay. The location is fantastic, very close to town, and the property is clean and well maintained. It has a beautiful colonial-style charm with a great garden, which makes the stay feel peaceful and relaxing. Overall, a very good experience and would recommend.

فندق جميل وهادي فيه حوالي 6 غرف وخذينا أكبرها وواسعة والحمام كذلك ويوجد به شطاف قريب من السوق ومعظم الأماكن للتجول والحديقة. ستيفين كان موظف مثالي جدا وخدوم يقدم لنا القهوة والشاي في اي وقت نريد ومجانا في اجواء باردة وجميلة صباحا ومساءا. الفندق من طابق واحد وكل الي طلبناهم للنقل يعرفوه على طول وفيه حديقة جميلة جدا للجلوس. الفندق يشبه فنادق أوروبا الكلاسيكية اثاثا وكراسي وشكلا وعمره اكثر من 100 سنة وتم تجديده وانا احب هذا النوع من الفنادق فالاجواء الباردة لي عودة آخرى الى سيرلانكا وسأختار هذا الفندق ان شاء الله مرة ثانية الأفطار من قائمة تتطلبها قبل يوم وكان لذيذ وشهي.

We had a wonderful stay at Royal Cocoon in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. The bungalow is beautiful, with large and comfortable rooms, a lovely garden, and very good WiFi. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. A perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Nuwara Eliya.

Royal Cocoon is truly the best hotel in Nuwara Eliya, and honestly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in my life. The staff were incredibly kind, professional, and caring — especially Raminda, Sevin, and Teeban. The room and bed were spacious and comfortable, and the food was absolutely amazing. The pumpkin curry I had for dinner was the best curry I have ever eaten in my life. It was so unforgettable that I already want to come back to Nuwara Eliya just to eat that pumpkin curry again! Raminda, Sevin, and Teeban always looked out for me and made sure my time in Nuwara Eliya was safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. When I wanted to take the famous tea train from Ambewela to Ella, they kindly explained everything about how to take the train, and thanks to them, I had one of the best experiences of my life on the tea train. Raminda also recommended a great place for kottu and even kindly gave me a ride to a nearby supermarket on the way. I truly appreciate all of their kindness and hospitality. I was able to have the best time in Sri Lanka because of Royal Cocoon. L’accueil 4* Le style campagne anglaise Le petit déjeuner à la carte original et délicieux. La localisation, proche du Parc Victoria et même du lac Grégory à pieds. La literie et le chauffage d’appoint qui a diffusé juste ce qu’il faut de chaleur douce.

Le bruit, je suppose des oiseaux dans le grenier la nuit. Il n’y avait pas de location vélos bien que c’était spécifié dans l’annonce. Je n’étais pas là lorsque le plombier, sans prévenir, a apporté le câble pour réparer la douche ce qui n’est pas de la faute de l’hôtel mais par contre, la réparation n’étant du coup pas faite, je n’ai pas été prévenue que l’eau chaude fonctionnait mal et pouvait m’ebouillanter… L’hôtel aurait besoin d’être rénové pour maintenir ses étoiles.

Staff were friendly and helpful, good location. Breakfast was generous (although had to order the day before and advise of what time you wanted it, which can be a little restrictive).

Rooms were a little run down and there were stains on some of the linen (doesn’t necessarily mean they were unclean of course, but optics..). But it is an old colonial building so would expect things to be aged.

We had a a fantastic stay at the Royal Cocoon. My wife and I are on holiday and we were so pleased with the atmosphere, lovely and pristine gardens on the property, and must mention the delightful staff. We would like to extend our special thanks to the staff for their courtesies, especially Mr. Sevin, who went out of the way to assure our comfort and needs were met with professionalism and timeliness. The building has a classic architectural appeal and charm, and our room was well appointed. The property is located conveniently close to the town, and all the attractions we wanted to experience were within walking distance. We even extended our stay an additional night. Highly recommended!

The location near the city centre and the historical design of the place.

Every thing was good.

The location is very close to the city center, making it easy to get there on foot. The staff were attentive and supportive throughout our stay. Room heater provided. The view from our room was charming while you wake up in the morning. We enjoyed our breakfast in the garden, and the food was quite good. The building dates back to 1854—nearly 170 years old—and was once the governor’s residence. It has a distinct British-era charm with a touch of royal elegance.

The room needs some maintenance to make it more comfortable, not a big issue though.

The bed linen had not been changed from the previous guests; it had hair on it and clear signs of use, as if someone had slept in it. The pillows smelled of sweat. The boy at the reception tried to change the linen, but the one he replaced it with was also used and dirty. Mold on the ceilings and in the bathrooms. If you care about your health, avoid this accommodation.

En proximité de centre-ville, cet hôtel est figé dans le temps sans pour autant avoir être entretenu. L’hôtel dispose d’un beau parc entretenu et fleuri. La chambre est correcte avec un lit confortable ainsi qu’une salle de bain bien équipée.

Manque d’entretien en général, le petit dej est décevant, le personnel est aléatoire dans son attitude, la laundry est très chère.

Beautiful property set in stunning gardens! The beds were, by far, the most comfortable we’ve had on our trip and having hot water in the shower was a real treat. The staff were attentive and incredibly kind to us. Breakfast was varied and delicious. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Staying here was certainly the highlight of our trip. The friendliest, most helpful hotel staff I have encountered so far, very polite and accommodating at each turn. The interior and the garden view perfectly captured the colonial style and natural beauty people come to see in Nuwara Eliya, and we did not find that authenticity in any other hotel. The breakfast was fresh, filling and delicious! And I truly admire the quality of the bedroom, in terms comfort, cleanliness and beauty, it was the perfect combination! My only regret is not staying one more night. Would recommend to any one looking for a memorable stay.
