Loved it! An absolute experience.
The authenticity and the private onsen.
Too expensive for what you get, some of the staff rude. I’m allergic to carrots which I let them know. In the morning they served me multivitamin juice that contained carrots, so I had an allergic reaction. I asked to get other juice instead, which they declined. They have set times to for meals, you don’t have a say at all. Didn’t feel like vacation. Our private onsen was right above a street, it was noisy and smelled like gasoline.

Dettagli curati, cena e colazione ottime esperienze, ryokan elegante e personale estremamente cortese.

The private onsen was great. The room for 4 persons was very nice.
Everything. I liked how intimate it was and how well the staff took care of you. The private onsen was amazing. The dining room and meals were next level.
Could use a full body mirror in a room but it’s such a small thing.
Yes
No free towels is crazy
It is a small ryokan, only 8 rooms, each room gets one of 8 private onsens assigned. Onsens are not in the room but several steps away. The water is properly sulfurous and muddy. The restaurant is also small, only 4 tables, each with the gorgeous view. The food they serve is exquisite quality and presentation. Rooms are spacious and they provide traditional beautiful dress, toiletries and such. We were able to book it last minute, probably because the property is quite new and not as well known as other high quality ryokan in the area. It is spotlessly clean and recently renovated. Nice bar lounge area too. Only 2-3 minutes walk from Sounzan ropeway station.
Nothing
The facilities, vibe, onsen and staff were incredible. We felt like royalty. The room was ridiculous spacious and well thought out. The restaurant amazing.
Mostly everything was good, came here for the onsen.
The kaiseki was abit cold and salty
Amazing with private onsens and impeccable service. The traditional Japanese food is also amazing. Highly recommend!
This is a truly Japanese experience - amazing staff, lovely rooms and the private onsens with proper natural spring water was brilliant. We used the bag service too which shipped out bags from the hotel to the station so we could enjoy more of Hakone! I see lots about construction… can confirm that’s FINISHED!
Nothing - it was great

A beautiful hotel with great amenities, incredible food and lovely staff. Definitely recommend staying during your visit to Hakone!

The hotel was amazing. Surrounded by a lot of trees and plants, we could enjoy a nice bath in the private onsen surrounded by nature. The room was Japanese style, with living room area and very comfortable bed. Everything was clean and tidy. Staff was also nice. Congratulations to the chef, the food was amazing.
We arrived at 11h and the check-in was at 3pm. We already knew the check/in time but what surprised us is that we were not even allowed to access the place. They picked up our luggage at the entrance of the hotel and did not offer us to wait inside or go to the toilet. And it was strongly raining outside. We were really surprised by this cold welcome.
Everything!!! First class all the way!!
The geishas, the onsen and the restaurant
The reception staff doesn't care at all about you, they failed to receive our luggage from SAGAWA and we had to pay to send it to the next hotel. When we arrived they stated at us as if we were not expected or welcome. They didn't even offer water or anything while waiting for the checkin to be available. We had a room with a private onsen, they also didn't offer us to use the onsen while we wait for our room. I cannot describe how uninterested they are in doing their job. After 9:00 PM you cannot leave the hotel as the staff has to hand you your shoes and they are not there anymore. There is a construction site nearby and cars often rush though this street. I recommend you search another onsen place if you value your peace of mind.
The staff was absolutely amazing. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Our private bath was also beautiful and clean. Very close to the Hakone ropeway which was very convenient. We immediately felt comfortable and welcomed from the moment we walked in the front door.
There was nothing to dislike it was the perfect place to stay!
The hotel is very quiet and calm, the room is spacious with great view. We stayed in a semi Japanese style room so we slept on lower Japanese beds. We took half board option, so once we arrived, the staff suggested we will eat dinner at the privacy of our room and breakfast at the dining room (so we can enjoy the view) that was a good call. The dinner and breakfast were Japanese style and it was delicious!
The hotel is not located in the center, we arrived by car so I don't if you can get by public transportation. Also, there is a short walk and few stairs from the parking, that's not easy for elderly people. Last thing which is not bad but important to memtion is the fact that the private hot bath is not inside the room but in another level (still private and beautiful) which requires a short walk and few more stairs to get there.
The private onsen is definitely the highlight. Especially when the weather is a bit cold/rainy, being able to relax in the hot spring while looking at the forest was amazing. Note that it is not inside the room, but easily accessible. We also really liked the food. It was traditional Japanese food, unlike anything we tried before, even in Japan. Really nice to be able to try something authentic. You can ask for a western breakfast, but we did not. The dinner and breakfast were served in the room, our intendant was very attentive, all in all an amazing experience.
The schedule was overall a bit rigid. Breakfast at 8am sharp, dinner at either 6pm or 6.30pm, checkout between 3pm and 6pm only (we were able to leave our bags in the morning at the reception). It did force us to go out early every day, enjoy the day, and come back early enough to enjoy the onsen more, though.
The location is remote but still can be reached by train and tram. It's very near to the cable car station, just one stop away from the owakudani. As an onsen lover I found the onsen quality is excellent and rich in mineral which is very good for body and skins. Both dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel is splendid. The staffs are very friendly and cheerful. My big thanks to Cat who looked after me all the way and the manager who arranged for my suitcase transfer after check out. Being a solo traveller and travel by public transport, my advice is to get your suitcase transfer at Hakone station. *Check the schedule of delivery time*before placing your order. It saves a lot hustle! Hopefully I'll revisit again :)
The WiFi not function very well. You have to contact the hotel for the shuttle bus but it is only available at Gora (around 3pm) not at Hakone main station.
What a hidden gem of a place. The rooms are very traditional, very spacious. The staff is extremely nice and sweet, the service was great. The private onsens are separate from the room but they are so beautiful and so unique, they are private and you can use them all night. The meals were outstanding. Dinner was delicious, 10 course meal, and breakfast was also a feast. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. It's not your typical american breakfast but it's to be expected - very local to the region. The meals were plenty big and everything about it was just perfect. To get there you can go to Gora then take a cable car or ropeway to Sonzuen and it's a 5 minute walk from Sonzuen station. There's not too many stores nearby but since they provide meals (dinner and breakfast) you won't need it!
Nothing, it was perfect.
Our stay at Nagominoyado Hanagokoro was truly wonderful. The place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by nature and with a very peaceful atmosphere that made the experience feel special from the very beginning. The service was exceptional, and a special mention goes to our maid, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and caring throughout our stay. She made us feel genuinely welcomed and added a very personal touch to the whole experience. The food was outstanding, both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and delicious, showcasing amazing quality ingredients and traditional flavors. The private onsen was also fantastic: relaxing, clean, and set in a beautiful environment that made it one of the highlights of our trip. We highly recommend Nagominoyado Hanagokoro to anyone visiting Hakone. More than just a hotel stay, it is a truly memorable Japanese experience.
Nothing bad, everything great!
Great staff. Beautiful location. Fantastic food and service. Gorgeous private bath.
Shame the bar wasn’t open, but room service great.
The Ryokan is a perfect balance between the Old and the New. All the modern amenities are blended with old world charm. The view from the rooms is amazing. The space itself is massive at 41 sq m. The breakfast and dinner is really delicious and balanced. And of course the main event is the Private Onsen. It's a bit of a walk to your own private Onsen but once there it's super comfortable and relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen experience.
Not a complaint, but they don't have vegetarian options. My wife's a vegetarian and she could only eat 1/3rd of the things(and she is a very flexible vegetarian). Even the western breakfast in the morning is not vegetarian friendly. This is something they could really work on, especially for the price charged.
It was beautiful and the staff were so kind and accommodating. If you are looking for a Ryokan experience in Japan this is definitely it!
We had such a great stay here. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is incredibly kind, and the food was unforgettable. It’s not your typical hotel—you’ll be sleeping on tatami mats and enjoying whatever the chef prepares—but that’s exactly what makes it special. If you’re open to the experience, I definitely recommend it.
Amazing location perfect for Hakone loop. Private onsen was lovely and dinner was fabulous. It all felt like a really special experience
Stunning property and huge rooms with the sweetest staff! The location is perfection, quiet and peaceful but steps away from the ropeway and a bus station. The rooms were clean, the food was incredible, and the bed was better than ours at home! We wish all our hotel stays in Japan were like this!
Nothing!
One of the onsen in the wooden building was excellent. It felt very outdoorsy.
One of the onsen within the main building which was slimy and dirty with broken hot water outlet. Rushed dinner service, so not enough time to savour the delicious beautiful food.
Yin who bought our meals was wonderful - she explained everything, talked to us about Japanese customs etc and made us feel incredibly welcome. Obviously the private onsen was magical, and loved that we could use it late at night/early morning if we wanted.
Excellent service. Very pleasant courteous and accommodating.
Husband didn’t like dinner provided very much. Although he enjoyed many different courses and presentation of each dishes, the meal itself was not to his liking. But he enjoyed the breakfast menu very much.
the private onsen was perfect and the room itself was amazing. great service from staff
i wish the meal course was more substatial - have had better/more filling kaiseki elsewhere
Beautiful facilities, rooms were absolutely amazing, service was outstanding. Our onsen were magical! Once you're there, you don't want to go anywhere else. Really close to Sounzan station.
Just a warning for fellow travellers: this is true for all the ryokan of the region and not particular to this ryokan in specific, but getting there can be a little difficult, more so if you have luggage, since you're climbing up a mountain. Thankfully, we were prepared for that and only travelled with our carry on. Reception is closed from 9pm till 6:30am. If you need assistance between those times, you're on your own.
Posto stupendo ad Hakone. Ryokan tradizionale ed esperienza indimenticabile. Bellissimo l'Onsen privato e spettacolari cena e colazione kaiseki. Consigliatissimo, ci si sente accolti come a casa
Room interior, private onsen bath
View from room was a new building (shrine)
The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, we had some issue to catch a train and they organized an anticipated transfer just for us. The room is wonderful, very traditional Japanese style with some modern furnitures that make the stay unique. Private onsen was great, an amazing experience after a day out to relax and chill. Dinner and Japanese-style breakfast were delicious, served with love and professionalism. Overall, the stay was absolutely worth.
The room’s balcony was facing a street (not close, but still you could hear some cars during the afternoon)
