Wauw! Als we ooit weer teruggaan naar Bukit Lawang, staat deze direct bovenaan om te boeken. De locatie (net buiten het dorp) was perfect. Hier kon je pas echt genieten van de rust om je heen en de jungle geluiden. Het personeel was super vriendelijk en behulpzaam en het eten was er top. Bij Kupu Kupu zelf een eendaagse tour in de jungle geboekt en we kregen echt de beste gids ever. Deze man wist zoveel te vertellen. Wij hadden de familie kamer met onze jongens (15 en 12 jaar) geboekt en hebben hier voor de volle 100% genoten. ECHT een aanrader!

Fantastisch verblijf gehad op een schitterende locatie! Perfecte uitvalsplek voor jungle trekking maar absoluut ook om dagje (of meer) te chillen. Gezellige sfeer met heel vriendelijk personeel. Absolute aanrader!

Amazing location with breathtaking views. Staff was wonderfull and made us feel like family.

We absolutely loved our stay. The property is in a beautiful, peaceful location, surrounded by jungle and right next to the river. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and the food delicious, with a vegetarian option always available. The village is about a 15-minute walk away, which makes the place feel wonderfully remote and close to nature. As you’d expect in the jungle, it’s very humid, so quick-drying clothes are useful! We arranged our jungle trek and airport transfers through the accommodation and everything went very smoothly. The trek was incredible – we saw so many orangutans and our guides were super kind, funny and attentive. As two women travelling on our own, we always felt completely safe and well taken care of. A special thank you to Arif, Risky, Aria and Gibran – wonderful people who made our stay so memorable. We also really enjoyed the live music and singing in the evenings. There’s something very special about this place, and we had an unforgettable time!

Una guesthouse bellissima, curata nei dettagli, in una posizione invidiabile: la riserva naturale è al di là del fiume. Praticamente è come dormire nella foresta. La nostra stanza era grande, confortevole, con il bagno open air ma delizioso. Lo staff è ben organizzato, giovane, accogliente e allegro. Ottimi pasti!

Wir sind als Familie mit 2 Kindern gereist und haben uns alle sehr wohl gefühlt in Kupu Kupu Garden. Besonders die Lage direkt am Regenwald und abseits von der Hektik im Dorf war für uns sehr viel Wert. Die kurze Wanderung zur Lodge war auch für die Kinder kein Problem und das Gepäck kann auf Wunsch getragen werden. Das gesamte Team war sehr höflich und hilfsbereit. Direkt vom Café aus haben wir viele Gruppen von Affen und Nashornvögel ungestört beobachten können. Gegessen haben wir ausschließlich in Kupu Kupu und es war abwechslungsreich und lecker. Wir haben zwei Tages-Touren dort gebucht. Unser Guide war Teil des Teams und war sehr engagiert. Eine herkömmliche Tour, die ab dem Dorf zur Grenze des Nationalparks führt. Hier sind Orang-Utan Sichtungen fast garantiert, dafür laufen hier viele Touristen Gruppen. Unsere zweite Tour haben wir direkt in Kupu Kupu gestartet, haben den Fluß überquert und sind tiefer in den Regenwald gewandert. Absolute Empfehlung zur Buchung

Superb location, the small extra walk to get there is definitely worth it... Nice property with nice rooms. Dinner is a set menu but due to enough vergatarian/vegan options this wasn't an issue in our case. We were met/joined for pickup & drop-off.

There was almost nothing negative about our stay except for maybe a few small things which I can't really remember...

Een plek waar je je meteen thuis voelt ❤️ Vanaf het allereerste moment dat we aankwamen bij Kupu Kupu Garden, voelden we ons ontzettend welkom. Wat een warme, gezellige en bijzondere plek! Elke avond was er wel iets gezelligs te doen. De ene avond werd er met de gitaar gezongen en de andere avond zaten we met z’n allen een potje Skip-Bo te spelen. Juist die spontane momenten met de andere gasten en de mensen van Kupu Kupu Garden maakten ons verblijf zo bijzonder. Het voelde niet als een gewoon verblijf, maar alsof je even onderdeel was van een kleine, gezellige familie. Ook de jungle trekking werd door Kupu Kupu Garden voor ons geregeld. En wat een geweldige ervaring was dat! Alles was goed georganiseerd en we hebben een prachtige tijd gehad in de jungle. En dan… het slapen! 😴 Ik heb serieus nog nooit zo lekker geslapen als bij Kupu Kupu Garden. Zelfs tijdens onze overnachting in de jungle hebben we heerlijk geslapen. Na alle avonturen overdag was dat precies wat we nodig hadden. Het eten was prima en voldoende, al was dat voor ons niet het grootste hoogtepunt van het verblijf. De sfeer, de gastvrijheid, de gezelligheid en de prachtige omgeving maakten alles meer dan goed. Kupu Kupu Garden is zo’n plek waar je niet alleen komt om te slapen, maar waar je herinneringen maakt. We kijken met een grote glimlach terug op ons verblijf en zouden deze plek absoluut aanraden aan iedereen die Bukit Lawang bezoekt. Dank jullie wel voor de warme ontvangst, de gezelligheid, de mooie jungle-ervaring en vooral voor het gevoel dat we ons meteen thuis mochten voelen. 🌿🦋❤️

The location is perfect. Surrounded by rainforest and a couple of perfect swimming holes five minutes walk from the place. One day we spotted an orangutan with a baby from our swimming hole. There’s no aircon but it was nice and cool at night so we didn’t need it . Food was nice too.

For the same reason that it’s great. It’s a bit out there and you need to hike along a trail for a while to get there

It was really great and my wife and I felt very lucky that we chose to stay here. The room was very spacious and the bed large and comfortable. The food was delicious and all the staff were so great. Arif took us on a day trek to see orangutans, we were lucky and saw 8 or 9, as well as other monkeys gibbons and birds. He was great and taught us a lot about the area and community. Everyone was really lovely and Risky was always there with a smile and warm conversation. Being outside town, there's no crowds or human noise. It's situated in the jungle by the river and was easy to get to via a path that runs along the river. We had a fantastic stay.

There's nothing we disliked, our only regret, we wish we stayed longer

La guesthouse est belle. La chambre a une très belle vue, le couchage est confortable et la vision de la jungle, depuis le lit, au réveil, mémorable. La salle de bain est elle aussi très sympa (même si je n’ai pas osé m’y aventurer seule en pleine nuit…). Le guide pour notre excursion de 2j dans la jungle était exceptionnel. Lui et son assistant nous ont vraiment accompagnés avec bienveillance tout du long et nous ont fourni de nombreux renseignements.

Nous avoir fait payer deux nuits à la guesthouse alors que nous n’en passions qu’une et une autre dans la jungle, que nous avons payée à part… impossible d’avoir un remboursement des deux chambres familiales sur cette deuxième nuit, ce qui était très injuste. Aucun des arguments avancés ne tenait la route.

Eine unglaublich schönes Guest House mit freundlichem Personal. Die Outdoordusche war ein Erlebnis! Das Family Dinner war immer fantastisch. Achtung: es ist mitten im Jungle, vom Dorfende muss man gut 10 Minuten zum Homestay laufen. Nachts ist es da stockdunkel. Daher Taschenlampen mitnehmen oder im Homestay essen. Nahe vom Homestay kann man im Fluss baden.

Excellent location 30 min walk from village along river. Riverside walk continues a further 30 min upstream. All staff friendly and v helpful with bookings and travel advice. Seamless arrival & departure - met at airport then at village for walk.

No complaints. Cheaper priced room reflects lack of hot water and probably noise from other guests with thin walls and noisy, creaking timber floor above. Depends on how many screaming kids are present and sensitivity of parents. If you have the option, pay for a better room especially you're a light sleeper.

Prachtig gelegen hotel aan de rivier zo'n 30 minuten lopen buiten het stadje. Uitermate vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel dat zijn uiterste best doet er een fantastisch verblijf van te maken. Vanaf je terras zicht op de jungle inclusief de apen in de bomen.

Lastig om 's avonds naar het dorp te lopen vanwege het onverlichte pad. Dus handig om je eten in het restaurant te reserveren.

Kupu Kupu Garden to przede wszystkim wspaniały zespół, który świetnie dba o gości. Czuliśmy się zaopiekowani i komfortowo. Nie ma problemu, aby przez personel zamówić wycieczki lub dojazd z i na lotnisko do Medan. Na miejscu jest również restauracja serwująca lokalne specjały, kolacje były przepyszne. Lokalizacja jest z dala od miasteczka co zdecydowanie wpływa na obcowanie z naturą. Można siedzieć na trasie i obserować małpy czy ptaki lub słuchać szum rzeki. Zdecydowanie polecam

- Super leckeres Essen von Riski!! Eine sehr große Auswahl auch an vegetarischen Gerichten ! Das rendang tahu und tempe können wir sehr sehr empfehlen - wunderschöner Blick. Vom Balkon aus konnten wir nashornvögel, Thomas Affen und weitere Affen beobachten - der Weg ins Dorf dauert ca 15 min, ist ein sehr schöner (teilweise jedoch auch nicht ganz ungefährlicher Weg). Bei einer weiteren Touristin ist ein Teil des Weges in den Fluss gerutscht und sie fast auch - der Driver Igba ist super nett und wir haben uns sehr sicher gefühlt. Man muss wissen, dass man von den Driver bei einem Spot 30 min vom Hotel entfernt abgesetzt wird, weil der Rest der Strecke nur mit Scooter (zu Fuß) zu bewältigen ist. Für jedes Gepäckstück was getragen (mit dem Scooter zum Hotel gefahren wird) werden 50k IDR verlangt, für die Strecke können wir definitiv den Gepäcktranspprt empfehlen (vor allem weil man schon auf den Weg schauen sollte) - wir haben den Jungle Track mit den Guides empfohlen von Kupu Kupu gemacht, das war wirklich wunderschön. Die Guides haben sich sehr gut gekümmert, es gab mehr als genug essen. Auch die Hütte und die Toilette im Dschungel waren erstaunlich hygienisch. Wir haben den 3D2N Track gebucht und haben uns leider am ersten Abend erkältet, so dass wir früher abbrechen mussten. Da haben wir nichts vom Geld wieder bekommen (~175€), das sollte man auf dem Schirm haben.

- Laundry können wir gar nicht empfehlen, da unsere Sachen weiterhin dreckig waren und leider auch kaputt gegangen sind - Man muss sich darauf einstellen, dass nach dem Aufenthalt wirklich alle Sachen feucht sind (nicht nur die aus dem Dschungel/die Sachen aus der laundry sondern wirklich alles was im Zimmer lag) - Ameisen im Bett

Prachtige locatie midden in de jungle maar toch maar 10 minuten lopen van het dorpje. Arif en zijn staff zijn super!! Jungle trek die we via Kupu kupu hebben geregeld was ook top! We kunnen deze accomodatie zeker aanbevelen.

Действительно тихое место прямо на реке в 10-15 минутах ходьбы от деревни. Тропинка узкая, без освещения, вечером или сложно. Но, возможно, и не нужно. В баре есть холодное пиво и парни готовят очень хорошую и вкусную еду. Вечером хорошо сидеть прямо на реке на удобных подушках в беседке и смотреть на джунгли, в которых живёт местное семейство обезьян. Очень тихо, спать отлично. Кровати удобные. Arif договориться и насчёт проводника в джунгли, и насчёт машины для дальнейшей поездки. Чемоданы ребята помогают довезти до лоджа за 50к. Удобно. Они мастера ездить на мотоциклах по такой узкой тропе. Комнаты большие, высокие потолки, два вентилятора делают сон весьма комфортным. В душевой, которая находится под открытым небом, есть горячая вода через нагреватель. В целом, впечатления только положительные !

Das gesamte Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit! Top Lage wenn man einen ruhigen Ort mitten im Jungel zum Entspannen möchte. Top Essen von Frühstück bis Abendessen mit vielen vegetarischen Optionen.

Het huisje zelf was niet schoon. We hadden meerdere grote kakkerlakken lopen en het bed stonk. Ook zijn we achteraf erachter gekomen dat we aanzienlijk meer hebben betaald voor de taxi en jungle trekking.

The staff were really friendly and always happy to chat with you in the morning while you ate breakfast. The property was also completely by itself which made it very peaceful.

Although it was advertised that there was wifi the connection in my room only worked if I was sitting on the balcony. This was a little frustrating when it came to looking up places to eat and go in the village.

Kupu Kupu is located in a beautiful setting, a little outside Bukit Lawang. The walk into town took some time, but we absolutely loved it. We were happy to stay away from the busy center and do not regret that decision at all. On the other hand, the accommodation itself was very romantic. There is a net hammock on the terrace where you can relax, swing gently, and watch the jungle. That was truly unforgettable. The owner was friendly and helpful and arranged our transfer and trek to jungle. We would especially like to thank our driver, Iqbal, who took us from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi. The journey with him was comfortable, professional, and very enjoyable. He made the long drive much more pleasant

The only thing that bothered us a little was that the bathroom was located outside the room. We had to go down some stairs to reach it, and because it was outdoors, getting there during the frequent rain was not very pleasant. The roof above the toilet was also quite short, so rain often reached the toilet area as well. We were not quite as satisfied with the three-day jungle trek. The first day was excellent and felt like a real trekking experience. The accommodation in the jungle was very good for the local conditions, and the food was absolutely outstanding. However, much of the second and third days consisted of waiting around and waiting for the journey back. If we were to arrange a jungle trek through Kupu Kupu again, we believe that a one-day trek would be completely sufficient. For us, the second and third days felt largely like a waste of time. The rafting trip on the way back was fantastic and one of the highlights of the experience.

This was a really great place to stay. It’s slightly out of the village (a short walk and we were helped with our bags). It was really peaceful and we liked being a bit quieter. The food was excellent and the team were was so helpful. The surroundings are lively and there were nice places to sit overlooking the river in the evenings. Everything was very clean and the service was exceptional Arif organised an overnight trek into the rainforest led by Wanda and supported by Juli. They were excellent. Wanda used to work for the orangutan rehabilitation centre and now only works for Kupu Kupu. He was very knowledgable and very kind and supportive. We could go at a pace that suited us (family of 4, 2 adult daughters) and they worked hard to look for wildlife, as well as making sure we felt comfortable with the trekking- it’s very up and down and can be a bit of a scramble at times. The camp was basic but clean and great to be able to dip in the river. The food was really good- we are vegetarian and they catered to that well, there was plenty of food and also fruit breaks, which were great.

Herausragendes Frühstück , frische Säfte, leckeres Obst, leckerer Kaffee, alles zu günstigen Preisen. Das ganze Team von Kupu Kupu Garden setzt alles daran, dass die Gäste sich richtig wohlfühlen. Die Lage ist paradiesisch, und lediglich zehn Minuten Fußmarsch vom Ortsausgang gelegen. Manchmal sind die Urang Utans schon direkt auf der gegenüberliegenden Flußseite im Wald zu sehen. Die Organisation von Ausflügen ist deutlich individueller als der üblichen Agenturen vor Ort(besonders zu empfehlen ist der Night Trek mit Ipull, für Reptilienfans)

Wir haben die Lage auch sehr geschätzt, weil wir nicht direkt in Bukit Lawang sein wollten, sondern wirklich mitten im Dschungel – und genau das ist man hier. Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis mitten im Dschungel! Wir haben die 3D/2N Dschungelwanderung gemacht und die Unterkunft hat wirklich alles perfekt organisiert – wir mussten uns um nichts kümmern. Von der Planung bis zur Durchführung lief alles reibungslos und man hat sich jederzeit bestens aufgehoben gefühlt. Unser Guide war einfach unglaublich. Er hatte einen riesigen Wissensschatz und konnte uns alles über die Tiere und Pflanzen im Regenwald erklären. Dadurch wurde die Wanderung nicht nur abenteuerlich, sondern auch super spannend und lehrreich. Die Begegnungen mit der Natur und den Orang-Utans werden wir nie vergessen. Die Lage direkt am Fluss und mitten im Regenwald ist traumhaft schön. Für uns ist diese Unterkunft wirklich eines der letzten Paradiese auf Erden. Das kleine Guesthouse ist gemütlich, ruhig und sehr persönlich geführt, sodass man sich sofort wohlfühlt. In einigen Bewertungen wurde geschrieben, dass der Weg zur Unterkunft etwa 30 Minuten dauern soll – wir haben ihn mit unserem Gepäck dank der großartigen Unterstützung der Hotelmitarbeiter in nur 15 Minuten geschafft. Der Service und die Herzlichkeit des Teams waren wirklich außergewöhnlich. Wer ein echtes Dschungelabenteuer mit herzlichen Gastgebern und perfekter Organisation sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Absolute Empfehlung!

Das Personal war großartig, sie haben einen jeden Wunsch erfüllt. Am letzten Abend sind wir noch lange zusammengesessen und uns wurden Indonesische Lieder vorgesungen. Ein sehr junges und freundliches Team.

La localisation, ainsi que la proximité avec la rivière et la jungle, font toute la beauté du lieu. J’ai également réellement apprécié le personnel, réactif et à l’écoute, ainsi que l’entretien général.

Pas grand-chose, mis à part peut-être les fourmis dans la chambre, qui sont très vite arrivées.

What a beautiful setting and scenery! I loved being out of town in the noises of the jungle. And what was even better than the beauty of the place was the staff - thanks Risky! And to Gibran (plus his dad Wanda) for an epic jungle trek. Added plus the food was excellent. 10/10 - would go back again!

Freundliches Personal, ruhige Lage am Fluss

EVERYTHING! This place is an oasis in the jungle just a short walk along the river from Bukit Lawang. If you can, definitely stay here! The staff are so kind and SO chilled, nothing is too much trouble and they are always smiling. The food was some of the best we tried in Sumatra - made fresh. The room was clean and comfortable, with beautiful balcony views over the river. If we could have stayed longer we would. Amazing after a jungle trek - hot shower, comfy bed, great food and away from the town. Don't hesitate! Thank you again!

Niestety miałem pecha i obok mnie zamieszkała patologiczna rodzina, ściany są bardzo cienkie bo zbudowane z bambusa, słyszałem każdy głos, a rodzinka nie przejmowała się nikim i niczym, mama tylko piła alkohol, zamieszkali w oddzielnym pokoju z dala od dzieci, pewnie żeby mieć spokój, ale inni go już nie mieli. Po godzinie 16.oo już tylko zestaw kolacyjny około 200.000 za parę, uważam że trochę droga opcja.

Ein tolles Hotel 15 Minuten vom Dorf entfernt, garantiert absolute Ruhe. Vor allem an Samstagen, wenn im Dorf jede Woche von 16:00 Uhr bis 3:00 Uhr morgens extrem laut Party gefeiert wird. Danke an Risky und sein Team für die tolle Unterstützung beim Transport. Morgens übernehmen hier die Affen das Regiment🤗

Sie war sehr individuell gestaltet und mitten im Dschungel gelegen. Alles sehr authentisch und herzlich.

I can’t quite find the words to truly describe the experience of staying at Kupu Kupu- it’s a real gem of Bukit Lawang. Reaching the accommodation requires about a 10-minute walk, which is part of its unique charm, as it’s beautifully hidden away in the jungle. The only sounds you hear are the river and birds, making it incredibly peaceful. The team is absolutely amazing. A special shoutout to Arif for the warm hospitality, as well as the rest of the staff- they made our stay extremely comfortable and truly unforgettable. A big thank you as well for arranging Wanda as our jungle trekking guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Bukit Lawang’s history and the wildlife, far beyond just orangutans. It was a pleasure having him as our guide. I would 1000% recommend booking a jungle trek through Kupu Kupu’s staff- they are reliable, professional, and offer a truly high-quality experience. We can’t wait to visit again!!😊😊

The most beautiful little hideaway on the river, (15min walk outside town) right on the edge of the jungle. I’ve stayed here twice now. Great breakfasts, and main meal served at night. Watch the wildlife from your room: lizards, dragonflies, swallows, butterflies (“Kupu-kupu “), macaques (pig tailed and long tailed), Thomas Leaf monkeys… all sorts. Monkeys even on our balcony one morning…. And the local staff are about as wonderful a bunch of people as you will ever meet… including the very best guides for visiting the Orang-utan in the National park that this place already sits within. This is THE place to stay in Bukit Lawang.

Nothing. It’s not so easy to access as some places are but for us that was a bonus as it doesn’t feel too ‘touristy’.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist das Personal. Das gesamte Team ist sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die lokalen Gerichte waren alle extrem lecker! Die Besonderheit der Unterkunft ist, dass sie etwas abseits vom Dorf den Fluss hoch liegt (ca. 15-20 Minuten Fußweg), was noch einmal sehr schöne Atmosphäre schafft!

We traveled through Asia for a month, but this accommodation truly touched our hearts. The staff was so warm and welcoming that we immediately felt at home and safe. They took care of everything and gave us the feeling that we were in very good hands. Very quickly, it felt like being part of a family. The food was fantastic, and our room was incredibly beautiful, comfortable, and designed with so much love and attention to detail. We also had a wonderful view of the river and the jungle. Everything about our stay was simply perfect.

The location in the middle of nature, surrounded and tranquility and monkeys. Pure jungle. Great treks to see orangutans. And yet, the best of it all, is the people working there: beautiful people!

Es ist ein kleines Paradies. Das ganze Team ist soooo aufmerksam, liebevoll und Mega freundlich!!!!!! Dort zu buchen ist ein Muss für eine Reise durch Sumatra. Ach ja, die Küche einfach nur lecker und alles wird von Riksey und sein Team selbst zubereitet!!!!! Danke für alles!!!!!

Amazing place, just book it! Nice and comfortable room located outside of touristy part of Bukit Lawang, next to a river, surrounded by jungle. You wake up to birds singing and monkeys running around. River is nice to swim in too, perfect, quiet place to relax. Staff is super friendly too, Risky can help you with anything u need and they cook delicious meals. Would be back, thank you!

We had an amazing stay!! The location is beautiful, surrounded by jungle and nature, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The jungle trek was an unforgettable experience, seeing orangutans and gibons in the wild was incredible. Everything was very well organized, and the rafting at the end was so much fun! A special thanks to Arif for all his help and kindness. He made everything easy and stress-free for us. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Kupu Kupu Garden was lovely. Arif was exceptionally kind and attentive, making sure that both our arrival and our return went smoothly. He personally arranged the transportation for both journeys, taking into account our schedules and ensuring everything was stress-free. We also booked a half-day jungle trek through Arif with professional guides, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Walking through the lush jungle and seeing orangutans in their natural habitat was unforgettable. Although they strongly encouraged us to do the full-day trek, we recommend that travellers who are not used to hiking in these conditions opt for the half-day, which was more than enough. We met several people who regretted booking the full-day and had to turn back. We really appreciated the warm hospitality, seamless organisation and genuine care we received. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

If there is one drawback, it’s that the property is about a 20–30 minute walk from the village’s main street if you don’t go by motorbike. The sun sets early and doing the walk at night is not ideal, so plan accordingly.

Nice surroundings in the jungle and the staff are amazing. Really friendly people especially risky was in for some good conversations. Also nice to have a shared dinner to share some story’s.

Maybe the mosquite net can be replaced. Next to that it was really clean and good. Especially considering you’re in the jungle!

Wat een heerlijk verblijf hebben wij gehad bij Kupu Kupu Garden. De sfeer van het dorp Bukit Lawang, de jungle maar vooral het behulpzame personeel en de ligging van Kupu Kupu midden in de jungle maakte ons verblijf onvergetelijk. Onze koffers waren tijdens onze vlucht achtergebleven in Singapore en mede dankzij de inzet en het contact van Arif met Singapore Airlines werden deze snel nagebracht. Superfijn. Arif regelde daarnaast voor ons een tweedaagse jungletrekking met gids Odin en Aria. Deze was pittig maar zo mooi om te doen. Dit verblijf was een heel mooi begin van onze reis door Indonesië en raden wij iedereen die goed ter been is aan.

Das Personal ist sehr nett und kompetent. Die Lage ist ca. 2km vom Ort Bukit Lawang entfernt und somit sehr ruhig.

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt. In dem kleinen, gemütlichen Haus-Restaurant gibt es tolles Frühstück, und abends kann man ein reichhaltiges, sehr leckeres „Familienessen“ buchen. Jeden Abend gab es neue Gerichte, die man ausprobieren konnte. Das ganze Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die ruhige Lage ist ein weiterer Pluspunkt und von den Balkonen kann man die Affen am Fluss beobachten. Ins Dorf läuft man ca.15-20 Minuten. Über Arif kann man tolle Ausflüge buchen. Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit

Das Hotel liegt schön abgelegen vom Ort, sodass man nur die Geräusche des Dschungels um sich herum hat. Die Aussicht vom Balkon auf den Fluss und den Dschungel ist unglaublich schön. Die Familienzimmer als auch die Doppelzimmer sind groß, geräumig und sehr schön eingerichtet. Es gibt es eine schöne Badestelle 5 Minuten fußläufig entfernt. Dort spielen immer Affen in den Bäumen entlang des Ufers.

Für uns war alles super

Kupu Kupu ligt stroomopwaards buiten het dorpje. Lekker rustig en nog meer junglebeleving. Het is 15 lopen naar de rand van het dorp. In het donker heb je echt een zaklamp, hoofdlampjes of je telefoon nodig. Elke keer een leuke spanende afsluiting van de avond om in het donker door de jungle terug te lopen. Vlakbij en direct voor Kupu Kupu kun je heerlijk in de rivier zwemmen, met een beetje geluk trekken er groepen apen langs de oever van de rivier. Om lekker te eten kun je ook het beste bij Kupu Kupu eten. Wij zijn voor de afwisseling wel 2x naar dorp gegaan om te eten. Dat is zeker leuk, maar minder lekker. Het eten is er namelijk echt goed, maar wel net iets duurder. Maar dat is het zeker waard en je hebt het uiteindelijk over enkele euro's. Dus maak het jezelf gemakkelijk en overleg s morgens met Risky wat er die avond op tafel kan komen, dan kan hij het meenemen van de markt. Pas op dat je niet over voetbal begint. Dan raak je niet uitgepraat. De kamers zijn ruim en super sfeervol, geen airco maar wel goede ventilatoren en bedden. De buitenbadkamer was subliem. Tandpoetsen onder de sterren hemel en douchen met uitzicht op de jungle. Maar ook goed sanitair en warmwater. Daarnaast balkon met hangmat etc. Ze hebben voor ons ook de jungletrekking georganiseerd met een van hun hun vaste gidsen. Deze was echt goed, gewoon perfect. Wist heel erg veel en kon het ook super goed uitleggen aan ons en onze kinderen. s avonds bij het kampvuur ook met hem over tal van andere zaken gesproken. Ook het vervoer terug naar Medan hebben ze voor een goede prijs geregeld.

Misschien dat je niet met je pinpas/creditcard kan betalen. Er is geen pinautomaat in Bukhit Lawang en ik had net niet genoeg cash bij mij. Of eigenlijk te veel uitgeven aan leuke dingen. Ik heb uiteindelijk via Wise betaald, maar dat koste wel de nodige tijd en moeite.

Prachtig complex. We hadden een hele mooie comfortabele kamer met fraai houtsnijwerk en groot balkon uitkijkend over de jungle. Dit was onze eerste kamer in Sumatra waar niks kapot was of niet functioneerde. De wijze waarop het guesthouse wordt geleid en hoe men met de gasten meedenkt vonden we daarnaast fantastisch.

Great quiet location! Helpfull staff!

We had a great time at Kupu Kupu. Beautiful location in the jungle, near the river and when we were there, there were no mosquito's! Yeah! Arif welcomed us and the chef made excellent food. Sue showed us some pictures of the wild life of the day. They arranged us a 2 day jungle trek with Oman, Besj and Ari. They were great with our 2 kids, helped them on the difficult parts and entertained them with their knowledge, songs and jokes. Thank you for the beautiful jungle trek. (The kids still sing the jungle trek song😂). Special feature from our room: the open air bathroom. If you like animals, you will discover a new species every time you enter here.

Amazing location and great stuff. Try to spend a few days there just enjoying the nature and great dinners.

Beautiful rooms, friendly staff and great food. This guest house is on the edge of the town (10 mins walk), very close to the jungle and next to the river. The location is beautiful and quiet. The family room is nicely decorated and big. The staff is very hospitable and can book jungle treks for you.

Wonderful peaceful spot just a short (10min) walk from the end of the tourist part of the village with super friendly staff. Rooms have a wonderful outlook and the food was great.

Nothing.

While there have been complaints about the walk to Kupu Kupu (which a look on a map would have shown!) we found this part of the charm! We were met at the drop off point in the village by a porter and Gebrin who escorted us, it was exciting venturing along the dirt path into the jungle with macaw and Thomas Lungars frolicking above us as the day merged into night. If you’re in Bukit Lawang I would assume you’re hiking at some stage so why grumble about the walk to the hotel! Our neighbour was a tiny 90 year old woman, so as long as it’s not raining, the walk isn’t arduous. We loved being tucked away in this corner of paradise with nothing but the river, birds and copious butterflies! It was a wonderful escape from life. Our family had the orangutan room, not what we’d booked, but a fabulous room! The kids were in a loft above us, for young children the stairs would be too steep though especially if they need the bathroom in the night. The room was traditionally styled with woven walls, wood carvings for ventilation, high ceiling and polished floors but rather dark; given the heat I guess it does help keep it cooler! My daughter loved the hammock on the front balcony. We had an open air bathroom. Again, people have complained about this, but I thought it was magical and even my husband who is frequently in hotels with his job wasn’t fussed so I don’t know why some complained…There is a hot shower and a cold rain water shower open to the stars and a semi covered toilet with views of treetops; accessible from a side door and balcony so no one else can see or access it. Living in a busy concrete city being this close to nature was rejuvenating. I very much enjoyed the bathroom. There was electricity! We had no trouble charging phones and cameras or having the fans on during the night. We had a blast swimming up river a little from Kupu Kupu, which Wanda recommended when he came to introduce himself.

Meals were delicious -but there was no choice for dinner. Things also happen more slowly, but this was the same elsewhere in Bukit Lawang. We didn’t mind this but I imagine some may take issue with this. Having enough money was the only issue. We knew we had to bring cash and we thought we brought enough but paying for accomodation, meals, the trek, the driver… we didn’t have much left for tips. It was a shame we couldn’t get money in Bukit Lawang. I’d have been happier with more to tip because everyone really did go out of their way to ensure we were looked after and happy. Please don’t forget the cook on your trek- my husband learned the hard way how much work he has to do to set up camp and get food to each sight!

The place is truly magical.The accommodation we booked had a terrace overlooking the jungle, right on the river. We saw a lot of wildlife just by looking out of the room! The staff was incredibly nice as well and helped us with so many things. They also offer a porter service with the scooter as the road is not very suitable for carrying trolleys. The food they offer is also super good, and after dinner one of the guys treated us with a guitar session which was super nice! If we ever come back to Bukit Lawang, we'd come back here no doubt!

For us everything was perfect. The only thing to consider is that it's a 10/15 min walk from the village (which for us was a good thing).

We had the perfect time at Kupu Kupu Guesthouse. The staff Risky and Arif took wonderful care of us and organized everything for us. We had great conversations and the food was simply fantastic. The house is wonderful, located right by the river and a bit away from the village, so you experience pure jungle feelings. A special highlight of our experience was our three-day jungle tour with Oman. He truly made the trip unforgettable. Oman took care of absolutely everything, was always there for us, and even helped organize additional tours. He taught us so much about the nature, wildlife and people in Bukit Lawang. You can feel that he loves his job. We are so grateful to him for this incredible and memorable time. Judy provided the best food and drinks during the Dschungel trip, it was simply amazing. We can't find anything to complain about because we loved everything. We would come back anytime and can recommend this accommodation to anyone because these people know exactly how to make you happy. Thank you for everything to the entire team!

Everything was perfect!

They’re located further up from the village with an amazing view of the river and rainforest. We enjoyed watching the monkeys from our balcony. Perfect spot for taking a dip in the water. Everyone who works there couldn’t be more friendly, Risky is a brilliant chef, the Indonesian food is so good. We couldn’t get enough. Arif is my new best friend. This was the highlight of our trip and we can’t recommend them more.

Nothing to dislike although we did have a power cut during our stay but this was quickly resolved, at the end of the day the property is in the rainforest!

Very beautiful guesthouse in stunning surroundings. The staff (Arif and Risky) was amazing and so helpful. They were always available and present and had interest in us as guest.

We loved everything.

We had the most amazing time at Kupu Kupu. The guesthouse is so beautiful, the rooms are very clean and well-designed and the food is incredible. With the jungle at the doorstep, we really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watch the monkeys play in the trees - it felt like we were in paradise! After two nights at the guesthouse, we did a 3 day / 2 night jungle trek our guides Wanda and Juli, which was an incredible experience. Wanda has so much knowledge about the jungle and all the living beings in it - he had a story to tell about any animal or plant we found, we enjoyed our talks with him so much! Both guides took very good care of us and always made us feel safe and well! After rafting (fun!!!) back to Kupu Kupu on the last day of our trek, we stayed at the guesthouse for one more night to relax and process our experience 🌿 Special thanks to Arif for organising everything for us (helping us with the itinerary from the airport and onwards to our next destination, picking us up from the town and organising the jungle trek) and to Risky for making us feel right at home 🙏

What they make it everything was sooo testy

My experience at Kupu Kupu Guesthouse was absolutely amazing. They have the kindest staff, each and every one of them went out of their way to make the stay special to us! The Kupu Kupu team felt like family, and their service at the guesthouse as well as during the two day jungle trek we did was more than perfect. Rooms are clean and cozy, the view from the guesthouse is beautiful, and the two day trek we did with them is an experience I will never forget! The breakfast is delicious and even the transfers arranged via them were perfect and done by super friendly drivers. Thank you again to the whole team for making our sumatra trip truely wonderful!

No bad things can be said!

Beautiful place in the jungle! We stayed here before and after our jungle hike and if was lovely! They had great breakfast and a delicious family style dinner in the communal area which we loved.

It’s a bit further from the town but we didn’t mind as we loved being in the jungle and they offer great food (nice breakfast and family style dinner) in the restaurant.

This is a wonderful guest house in a peaceful location, a 30 minute walk along the river. Porters are available for a small fee. A fabulous view into the jungle. Arif, Riski and the girls in the kitchen provide a friendly, laid-back atmosphere and create amazing meals. All the guests eat dinner together, a great communal experience. Some of the rooms have outside jungle bathrooms. Staying here was the highlight of our trip to Indonesia.

I can't think of anything I didn't like. Maybe the marauding macaques!

As a solo traveler traveling in low season, I expected there might be some inconveniences. however, the staffs of Kupukupu helped me to overcome all the difficulties, planning and arranging my trips well with good value. I also like the cookings from their kitchen. You need to order dinner in the morning then they can buy fresh food in the day and cook the dishes well. I tried some other restaurant with high rating in the village, unfortunately, their food are not fresh at all. I really appreciate the Kupu Kupu kitchen prepares the dishes with heart, even for one single guest.

I lived in the family suite. The design of the washing and toileting area confuses me. It’s half open air, when it’s rainy hard you have to stand in the rain to brush your teeth and do the washings.

The Kupu Kupu garden guest house is in a beautiful location with very friendly staff especially Arif who made us feel at home and welcome straight away! we enjoyed our stay so much that we booked in for longer because we didn’t want to leave! the facilities were all perfect and the whole place was very clean, we honestly didn’t want to leave! we would of spent longer there if our stay in Sumatra wasn’t so short. We definitely recommend this accommodation for anyone else and will definitely be back!

Very cozy place with a nice and quite atmosphere. A little walk to the juggle makes it super private place to stay. The staffs very friendly and speak fluent English.

The location is chill, far away from noisy motorbikes. Also the friendliness of the staf. The hosts (Arif and Risky) were very entertaining and honest. They want you to have a good time and will do everything to make you feel at home. They organise good trustfull and knowledgeable guides for the jungle trek and transport. Highly recommend it. We absolutely loved the laid back jungle spirit of Kupu Kupu Garden.

The beds and cushions were a bit hard for our taste.

The best accomodation in Bukit Lawang! Very cozy, calm hotel made with greate taste. It is located in the river, in front of it yiu can see splendid views on jungles! And of course his staff is the best! Mr Arif does his best, he is involved in his job, does everything possible to his guests, thanks him a lot! Moreover i had beautiful one-day trekking with him and we were so lucky! We saw 7-9 orangutans, one gibbon, monkeys tomas, kyffia (snake). Kupu-kupu worth staying in it and pass several days in a little green paradise

Wonderful guesthouse. Risky and Arif are amazing, the food is great and the location beautiful. We arranged a motorbike transport from the bus station and then it’s a 10 minute walk along the water. We would love to come back one day!

Kupu Kupu is a special place on an even more special location. Just a 5 to 10 min walk away from the village, this hidden gem truely lays in the jungle of bukit lawang. its a nice and quiet place, where you can spot plenty of animals just from your own balcony. The amazing staff will do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Risky, Arif, Marry and Kiki are there for you 24/7. they will make you some amazing food and help you organize any activity you would like. even if you have more custom request they will do everything to make it happen.
