The main building was great and decor
The place where we stayed in the lodge building was very tired and grotty in the corridors but the rooms were nice. New blinds and some paint or also new internal doors and carpets would really improve it. The rooms fine just that experience beforehand
Good sized room - well furnished. Restaurant serves good food but watch out for additional charges.
Generally a ”tired” feel to the hotel - in need if a refurb. Unpleasant smell (drains?) around the entry to the lodge. Overcharged/ duplicated fee for evening meal - slow to correct the error.
Food was good & most of the waiting staff were very good. Housekeeping were friendly too.
I like to know what I'm paying for, having to pay supplements on virtually everything is a joke. Also had issues of being charged for things when we didn't go to dinner one night as we were at a wedding. This did get refunded, but took a long time to sort out at checkout. Also trying to get ready in the dark is not good, appreciate its an old building (coach house) but would of liked a little more light. The smell was awful when we got there, very damp, bad drainage smells. Thought it was pointless to say anything at the time, as know we would of been told "its an old building".
Nothing
The outer building where the bedrooms are located is filthy dirty, the carpets needs deep cleaning and the walls need painting. Staff are rude and disrespectful in my opinion and couldn't care less about customer service. No refund or partial refund was offered and in my opinion this property should not be listed on booking.com
Staff where great especially the breakfast staff
Room and facilities were top notch, dinner and breakfast excellent.
Coach house stairwell was dirty and a bit smelly......lift broken, No problem for me but could have been a big issue for some
I liked the size of the room and the bathroom. The cleanliness was good. The bed was comfortable
I did not like that it was very difficult to find as there are no signs and even when you get there you cannot find the Reception as there are internal signs either. Asked a member of staff in the Dining Room who was abrupt and unhelpful. The Receptionist left the radio on whilst talking to me which I found rude and then informed me that it would be £50 charge for my dog which I find exorbitant. I was told my room was in an outer block but couldn’t find the doorway in as again there was no signage. My room contained a large stuffed fox in a glass case, a deer head and deer skulls on the wall.
Quiet and very warm staff reception
Menu for breakfast was itemised and difficult to understand at first.
The breakfast itself was very good, however being charged £5 for an apple juice and £2 per person coverage ( sit at the table) is extortionate
See above
Absolute quirkyness. A real “Marmite” hotel. We loved it.
Just one thing - the smell as you entered “The Coachouse”. However we simply left the area asap.
EL CHECK IN Y EL CHECK OUT SON MUY PRONTO PARA CHECK OUT Y AL REVES PARA CHECK IN
Atmosphere and unusual decor , we didn’t stay in the main building sadly , but our accommodation was a short walk from the main building ,but this was comfy and well lazed out . Plus the food was a limited choice but very good .
Lift in our building wasn’t working . The walk from the restaurant to the accommodation wasn’t lite and if I didn’t a light on my phone would have been tricky . Plus since our return from our stay I’ve been plagued by spam calls and bogus emails .
The property itself is beautiful and the setting is genuinely lovely, which is probably what saved the experience for us. Unfortunately, the stay was let down by some really bizarre organisation and service.
There were absolutely no signs explaining how to enter the property or where reception was. We wandered into the enormous main house and ended up walking through a maze of rooms until we eventually found the restaurant and some staff. Turns out reception was actually hidden behind a locked door. There was also another couple wandering around looking equally confused, so clearly we weren't the only ones! We asked whether we could get some simple bar snacks as we'd had a late lunch and didn't want a full meal. We were told, rather bluntly, "we don't do snacks." Not exactly the warmest welcome. We were then told that our room was actually in the coach house, around 100m from the main building, with no covered walkway. Unfortunately, it was absolutely pouring with rain. On arrival, we discovered there was no phone signal whatsoever, so we tried to connect to the Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, it was password protected and there was absolutely no indication anywhere of what the password was - only a card telling us to phone reception if we had any questions - which was particularly helpful given that there was no signal. As for the room itself, we had booked the "Big Cosy" package, but were given a small double room instead, which was disappointing. Breakfast the following morning was another disappointment. Breakfast was included in our deal, but almost anything beyond the most basic options came with an £8.50 supplement. We decided not to spend any more money and ordered from the basic menu, with tea, coffee and toast supposedly included. The staff got our order wrong, and forgot our toast - when we asked, we were brought one slice of white bread and one slice of wholemeal. To top it all off, we were then charged an additional £4 "cover charge" for breakfast when checking out. Overall, it's a real shame because the venue and surroundings are genuinely beautiful.
I liked the main house and the surrounding grounds. The room itself was very nice.
I was staying in the Coachhouse on the top floor and the elevator was broken. I am in my late sixties, it was hard for me to keep climbing up the stairs, especially when I had luggage to carry. The septic tank needed emptying and there was a foul smell throughout the property. The shower door didn’t close properly and the armchair in the room was badly stained. Unable to access Netflix or Amazon Prime on the TV as it constantly ‘buffered’. It was clearly once a beautiful place, but it is now looking tired and needs some maintenance work.
Great atmosphere and comfortable with amazing food.
Great staff friendly and informative
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms were very spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The shower room was excellent too — large, modern and with a very powerful shower, which was a real highlight. The breakfast was adequate, and was nice to have the option of adding extra sides for a small additional charge. The best part of our stay, however, was the restaurant. The £25 three-course set menu was excellent value for money, and the fillet steak was absolutely amazing. A real standout and definitely worth trying!
There were only a couple of negatives. Unfortunately, our window couldn’t be opened, which meant the room felt a little stuffy at times. The Wi-Fi signal was also not quite strong enough and could be improved.
We really wanted to love this hotel, as it has so much potential and some genuinely wonderful features. Unfortunately, there were a few things that let it down and, overall, I don’t feel it currently lives up to the standard I would expect from a Marco Pierre White hotel. The positives The decor is absolutely stunning. Our room was beautiful and wonderfully eccentric, with so much character and attention to design. It was genuinely one of the highlights of our stay. The orchards and surrounding walks were also lovely, and the lounges and breakout areas throughout the hotel are gorgeous spaces to relax in. There is a real sense that this could be an incredibly special place. The food was exceptional. We couldn’t fault it at all, and the waiting staff were fantastic — polite, welcoming, attentive and incredibly accommodating. The food and drink were definitely the strongest part of our stay.
The hotel was surprisingly difficult to find, and some clearer signage would make a big difference. In fact, almost everyone we spoke to in the car park was asking the same question: “Is this the hotel?” It would be such an easy thing to improve. The grounds were probably the biggest disappointment. The orchards and walks themselves are lovely, but the gardens and grounds looked very unkempt. I appreciate we’ve experienced some extremely hot weather, but with a little more care and attention from a gardener, these grounds could be absolutely beautiful. At the moment, they really let the hotel down. Our room also didn’t have a television or any tea and coffee-making facilities. We actually quite liked not having a TV, but having a kettle with tea and coffee would have been very welcome. What was particularly disappointing was discovering, through conversations with other guests, that some rooms did have these facilities, which made the difference between rooms feel a little inconsistent. The lounges were beautiful, but unfortunately they had quite a noticeable smell of damp. I completely appreciate that this is an old building and that this can be an issue in older properties, but something as simple as some carefully chosen candles, diffusers or air fresheners could make a huge difference. Our room was also extremely hot, and we couldn’t open the windows. We had to request a fan and leave it running throughout the night, which made sleeping rather uncomfortable. Overall I think the biggest issue is that the hotel feels as though it needs a little more love, care and attention to detail. There is absolutely no doubt that the bones of something very special are there — the building, the decor, the rooms, the grounds, the lounges and, most importantly, the food and staff are all capable of making this a fantastic five-star experience.
Absolutely loved this extremely quirky and brilliant hotel. The artwork is superb, the mouseman furniture is wonderful, the food was great. Great grounds to wander round in too, with some wonderful views. Stayed in the Jak room, which was bonkers.
If you like standard corporate hotels that probably isn’t for you. We loved it.
Breakfast included but you had to pay a cover charge ect. No signage to get to the hotel
Dinner in the Garden Room restaurant was good value for money albeit largely pre prepared. Which I did not expect to see. Breakfast was meagre, with absolutely no flexibility about the composition of the offered dishes.
Many members of staff appear to have little idea of how to do their job or how to behave in a hospitality environment. No evidence of training or management. Staff seemed downbeat, which added to general air of melancholy, exacerbated by the eccentric decor. Hotel bar woefully under stocked. Wine list in restaurant outrageously overpriced. And the sommelier had no idea how to serve the overpriced wine. I enjoyed the extensive collection of 20th century photographs, including some truly iconic images. But many visitors are likely to regard at least some of the photographs as sexist, demeaning or offensive. The vast collection of taxidermy is probably also a minority taste.
posizione. Colazione alla carta meravigliosa. Struttura stupenda
cambierei il pavimento delle camere in quanto sicuramente difficoltoso da mantenere pulito. una moquette tipo stuoia
Staff are all very professional and welcoming, small menu but dinner and breakfast cooked beautifully using quality ingredients.
The hotel is beautiful
The gardens are very over grown need weeding and care
The decor in the room was great with a mix of contemporary prints and Mouseman furniture. The bathroom was beautiful. The quality of the breakfast was outstanding!!
Lots of extra costs like supplements and surcharges in the restaurant. The bar prices are astronomical, £8 for a 330ml can of IPA , lager or cider, £10 - 14 for a glass of wine and house wine £44 a bottle! £40 corkage if you bring your own wine into the room. It was a little dark throughout the hotel and some people may find the artifacts in the lounges overwhelming and macabre.
We love the quirkiness. We have visited at least 5 times.
Nothing, all good
The food and ambience, beautiful place.
Mooie ligging
Zachte matras met piepend klein bed
Everything about the property was lovely walking through the Orchard. Excellent location Food lovely staff all excellent very professional. Will definitely stay again and thanks to all the staff who looked after us. Will definitely be returning.
There was nothing to dislike
Room was nice, lounges were cool, restaurant aesthetically good.
The manager was very sassy and unfriendly, how did he become a manager here? We actually would be laughing in disbelief after every interaction with him. Music in the restaurant was completely awful (lounge covers of pop songs) There is no vibe here. It felt like being in a weird, empty limbo where no one smiles and everyone looks vacant. Also the building where the rooms are smelt like sewage and looked half-done. Almost like a cheap student accomodation.
Bathroom
Terrible smell in common areas without any comment/rationale- felt dangerous Lift out of action, looks like long term issue Breakfast starts at 8am! Checked out atv7.45, no staff around and reception closed. Musty, damp just unpleasant
Wonderfully decorated throughout with more stuffed animals on the wall that makes you feel a little bit odd. The young waiter was great. Rooms were comfortable.
When we arrived we got told to go away and come back at 3pm. It is a hotel that is not long for the world. Shuts its doors at 10.30pm and all the lounges are looked so could not use them in the morning. Just weird experience that I would rather not repeat ever. Very limited menu, however food was ok. Paid for breakfast and had to pay another £5 for an orange juice….Simply ludicrous. Had to pay a cover charge for sitting down for dinner and breakfast….very odd surcharges and additional fees. WiFi was simply terrible which in this day and age is rather peculiar.
Poco
Breakfast was superb Staff were excellent Every room was so perfectly set
Bar prices were a bit steep
The main building was pretty outside
I liked the location and the exterior of the property, very cozy, very pretty, just what you would expect from a country property. I also liked the availability of parking.
The art isn’t tasteful at all. I’m a sex positive person and not easily offended, love quirky art but everything was designed to shock rather than complement the space. When I first entered the property, it was dark, smelt strange and there was no staff member to be found. My “hello’s” echoed, super creepy vibe and I had to walk for ages round the property and to the back when I finally found a waiter who found someone to help me check in. The gentleman who helped me check in was curt, moody and provided no information about my stay. Not even info on check out time or parking or when the kitchen closes. He gave me my key and pointed to a separate building where my room was. My room was cozy, clean and the bed was comfy, albeit I didn’t like that there was a taxidermied beaver on top of the wardrobe. Also, there were no windows in my room, only French doors that opened the full way and a balcony not far from the ground that’s super easy to climb if one wanted to. So I toasted in my sleep both nights, being unable to leave doors wide open as a single woman. Half an hour after check in I went to the restaurant for dinner and while the young waiter was lovely to me, the man who checked me in, whispered something in his ear and walked off. The waiter told me the kitchen had closed 10 minutes prior which was frustrating because this is the kind of information usually provided at check in. I said exactly that and had to beg to be served on account of being in the middle of nowhere and not being able to get food elsewhere. They did agree to serve me but told me I had to be quick. The food was diabolical. Only cold starters, all pates. The mackerel pate was inedible, the gnocchi for the main course was subpar, something I could cook in my kitchen as a beginner cook. Not at all anything I’d expect from a Marco Pierre White restaurant. In fact, it was so bad that I didn’t go for breakfast both days I was there, despite the fact that it was included in my stay.
Beautiful building and lovely decor
The bar and lounge closed at 10.30pm and we were thrown out so they could lock the door. It was a Saturday night and we were staying at the hotel.
It’s very quirky. The decor is interesting possibly not to some peoples tastes.
No tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The windows were held open with logs! Bathroom was dirty and there were hidden extra costs to everything breakfast and dining. despite its reputation, the quality of food was incredibly poor.
Overall look inside and outside
No signage . The Manor House smelt fusty / musty with dirty carpets, lift out of order . Bathroom very dark needs lights above / around mirror . Can’t quite understand how a supplement and cover charges payable for beans on toast but avocado with eggs on toast is free?? Very limited options of drinks.
Cleanliness of room. Location good. Breakfast good in many ways. Staff were polite.
Very difficult to find as there was no signage. Also, dark inside main house including reception area which again was difficult to find, because of no signs. Going to breakfast room, there were small steps, here and there, which did not stand out, so danger of someone tripping up. Can sometimes be difficult to put key in door lock of room, because of poor lighting and security light going off. Poor lighting in room. Although paying a high enough charge for breakfast, was very disappointed to pay extra for fruit juice, standard cooked breakfast AND a daily cover charge per person. I have never experienced this before at other hotels.
Really disappointing experience at Rudloe Arms, particularly given the level at which this hotel positions itself. Dinner on Friday evening felt incredibly poorly managed. After our starters, our plates and cutlery were cleared. When the mains arrived, the waiter asked us where our cutlery had gone. When I explained that it had been cleared with the starter plates, he genuinely responded, “Why did they do that?” That unfortunately summed up the level of training we experienced. The biggest issue, however, was the corkage charge. We had brought a bottle of wine that we had purchased earlier that day and I asked for a bottle opener. He gave us one and said absolutely nothing about there being a corkage charge. We therefore opened the wine. Only at the END of the meal were we suddenly told that we were being charged £40 corkage. Had anyone told us beforehand that opening the bottle would cost £40, we obviously would not have opened it and would simply have ordered another drink from the restaurant. When we pointed out that the waiter had never told us about the charge, the response from the man dealing with us was essentially that he didn’t know because the waiter was new. How is that the guest’s responsibility? If a new waiter has not been trained to tell customers about a £40 charge before giving them a bottle opener, that is a management and training failure. We should not then be expected to pay £40 because a member of staff had not been properly trained. The £40 charge itself is extraordinary, but the bigger issue is charging it retrospectively when your own member of staff was specifically asked for the bottle opener and failed to mention the charge. The gentleman dealing with us was extremely dismissive, refused to reconsider the charge and told us to speak to reception the following morning. The next morning was no better.
Friendly staff, quirky rooms and excellent food.
It’s location was excellent
Everything! Think no electricity and couldn’t run the bath. No access to property after Ten PM. No security staff or manager on duty for the duration of my stay. One unempowered receptionist and a hand full of restaurant staff.
Concerned about extra charges we had heard about and the £100 deposit but as it was value for money was good - deposit returned in 5 days and breakfast was very good. Loved the place.
Preferred not to have paid a £100 deposit in the Coach House rooms as our room did not have the Crown Jewels. Perhaps a juice included with brekkie?
El entorno, la cama cómoda, la amabilidad del personal y lo cerca que está de Bath. Hay un bus justo delante de la puerta que te deja en Bath en 25min y pasa cada 15min
Clean comfortable bed.
£4 breakfast supplement. (Ok £4 not much but would you pay a supplement at your supermarket, or on a round of drinks at the pub?) Absolutely no signage anywhere. Hold a £100 "bond" for 72 hours (unnecessary). Overall poor experience, but sure they couldnt care less, fine we will not go again and warn anyone else who might ask.
Położenie obiektu jak i sam obiekt super.
Dopłata do śniadania nie była ok
Having breakfast and dinner in the manor. Access to lounges, bar and gardens. The 3 course dinner for £25 was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious and included in our value for money stay. The antiques, decor, paintings, photographs and furniture (including numerous pieces of Mouseman!) were breathtaking; totally unexpected. The manor, to which we'd full access was out of this world, like somewhere you'd expect to pay an entry fee for. Our bedroom was lovely, very unique. All the staff, inparticular Junior, were helpful and pleasant throughout. I met a guest who'd was on the last night of her 2 and a half week stay in the modern accommodation who also found the staff wonderful, including Isaac. We were both shown 2 of the vacant bedrooms in the Manor itself which were equally decorated to the same high standard as the main areas of the hotel.
The gardens were neglected, weeds everywhere but still beautiful. The area around the modern accommodation block also neglected and in need of weeding. The lift out of order, no-one on site to help with bags up stairs. No clear signage on main road where to turn in to access hotel. No signage at modern accommodation to indicate we needed to proceed up lane to manor to sign in (another resident explained and showed us where to go and found a staff member for us to check us in).
Comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom. Dining staff and housekeepers friendly.
No sign, difficult to find, so not very welcoming when you’re unsure if you are in the right place. Breakfast included but you still pay a surcharge, never heard of this before !
Quirky and eclectic which was fabulous, loved trying to find the little carved mouse on the mouseman furniture. The gardens were amazing. The David Bailey photography on the walls and the cabinets full of curios, we could spend hours just looking at everything! A really sensory experience. Don’t expect the usual hotel standard setup, so glad we tried something different.
We had a big cosy room and thought it would have a big bed, but unfortunately it was a standard double.
The style, the food, the location and the overall charming atmosphere
Nothing
Very quirky and interesting Comfortable room and bed, great bathroom
Very smelly at entrance to coach house Whole place desperately in need of TLC Poor staff, obviously not much training done Food average (especially given the association with MPW) So many small things could be done to improve this place
The main Manor House was beautifully decorated and quirky. We stayed in the coach and although the hall way/stairs were in desperate need of refurbishment, the room was beautiful. The bed and pillows were also so comfy and cosy. The older breakfast staff were really lovely and attentive, we couldn’t fault them.
A member of staff had left us waiting in a reception lounge for nearly an hour to check in. When we told what seemed like the manager, his response felt slightly hostile and dismissive. We later saw him at dinner and he was very cold and off with us. Thereafter, ever interaction with him was very uncomfortable and it made the whole experience unpleasant. The menu also didn’t have a vegetarian starter. When asked, the waiter/manager told us the alternative was a beetroot salad however, a plate of tomatoes were given instead. Overall, the food was underwhelming. There were also hidden charges such as service charges and extra prices for breakfast options such as a full English.
The hotel is full of character and definitely not your typical hotel. There is art everywhere, and while art is always subjective — you’ll either love it or hate it — we really enjoyed the quirkiness and the fact that every space felt different. Our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished and decorated. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, and the service was great. The food was really good too, which definitely helped to turn our initial impressions around. We also loved exploring the different lounges. Each one has its own atmosphere created by the art, music and furniture. There are some fantastic, incredibly comfortable armchairs and sofas, and we could have happily spent much longer exploring them. In fact, we wished we had booked another night to properly enjoy the hotel. The grounds are amazing too. We loved the outdoor restaurant garden surrounded by fig trees, the red maple orchard, ponds and the more wild and enchanting areas of the grounds. There is so much to discover.
Our arrival could have been much better. There was very little signage showing where the hotel was or how to get there, and we didn't get the warm welcome from reception that you would normally expect. That alone probably cost the hotel its 5th star for us. The biggest issue was the lack of lighting outside. The driveway and paths between the different buildings were completely dark. In a place like this, some tasteful lighting could create a really elegant and mysterious atmosphere, but in complete darkness it felt more spooky and even a little scary! Because of this, we decided to go into Corsham for dinner rather than eat at the hotel on our first evening. In daylight, however, everything looked much better and we appreciated the setting a lot more. Our room could also have benefited from a wardrobe or clothes rack, and an internal lock on the door would have been reassuring. The grounds are beautiful but, in places, clearly need some maintenance. The fig trees around the outdoor restaurant are a good example — they look wonderful, but had grown so much that some of the tables were almost impossible to sit at!
The best main house / bar / restaurant space I’ve visited for a long time. Large sitting rooms for guests to relax in with a drink. Staff were so friendly and welcoming.
Nothing - an exceptional stay
The room was very comfortable, the grounds I imagine were once lovely but are a little tired
We struggled to find the property as there was no signage on the lead up to the hotel , my husband was feeling unwell during our stay and there was no way of getting a little food to the room. We travelled with our dog and it’s the most expensive FEE for a dog we have ever had one night cost an additional fifty pounds this amount is not mentioned anywhere on the website
The room was pleasant, and the bathroom was good. The artwork and decor in the room and the main hotel were unusual and interesting.
There is no signage for this place, which is hidden down a dark narrow driveway. No sign to reception either, but luckily another guest showed us the way. We stayed in the Coach House, which is a shabby, smelly ‘hostel’ separate from the main building, badly in need of refurbishment - the halls smell of drains and the lift was out of service for the three nights we were there. The breakfast menu was very limited. The ‘included’ breakfast was just tea or coffee, supermarket sliced toast with marmalade, then ONE OF muesli, porridge or poached eggs. Anything else, such as fruit juice or full English, comes with a hefty surcharge. They even charge you £2 each just to sit down in the restaurant! Dinner menu equally uninspiring - it was the same limited options every night. Very disappointing
Absolutely quirky quality. High end, thoughtful, luxurious and memorable. A special shout out to Nigel and Dominic… Absolute superstars on the team. This is a real gem…
The hotel was very clean, nice area, beuatiful building and stunning grounds. (Outside the main building)
1) The rest of the grounds aren't just "wild" they are unkept. There's weeds growing through floorboards, stinging nettles lining stairs, and the rear courtyard area is totally overgrown. 2) They try and stuff you at every corner. The £99 fee for a 2nd course of breakfast (When simply paying for breakfast was normally £20 is a ridiculous and offputting joke. "Apparently" this is because they are so busy they discourage last minute breakfasts, though, when we were there there was only 5 tables, and the rest wern't made up. 3) excessve charges. £14 for 2 tiny glasses of juice and a 'cover charge'. Would rather they just included this in a more expensive room. Staff were cold, only spoke about charges and fees the whole time.
The property was well positioned near where I was working and near other shopping / facilities.
The room was adequate, but the bathroom and shower were really nice. The pillows were like balloons though. Just not my personal style. Breakfast didn’t start until 08:00hrs which I didn’t find out until I arrived. Not helpful when I needed to be at work by 07:30 - so I paid for a breakfast I couldn’t have. I was compelled to pay a ‘surprise’ £100 retained fee (for up to 72 hours) when I checked in. I guess this was for any damage or bar use. Being a surprise my initial thought was that even though I could cover it with no warning - perhaps not everyone can. And 72 hours??
The staff were wonderful, apart from the fact that they had to repeat the misleading information forced on them by the management.
Difficult to find. No sign. Clever and mysterious? No, just annoying when you’re trying to find your accommodation for the night. Bed v small - what might once have been called a double but of diminutive dimensions very rare in hotels these days. We both like space around us when we sleep, which meant lying uncomfortably close to the edges. There was ac and no way of allowing fresh air into the room. There is no window, only doors. We were on the ground floor and they open onto a public walkway! Who planned, and approved, those ground floor rooms? ‘Uncomfortable’ was the word for the night, with the airless room and arrivals in the corridor letting the doors slam shut. The plumbing is noisy even from other rooms especially when the toilets are flushed. Once it was light outside we opened the doors to the walkway in desperation for some fresh air. We had already pushed a large chair in front to make casual entry harder for anyone passing. The light coming in made it harder to sleep but by then we were so tired. Then a radio came on unexpectedly at 6am! Presumably set at that time by a previous guest. That’s going to happen to many other guests - yet another example of how the hotel has failed to think through the guest experience. We had read online the night before, after realising all was not right with the place, about the breakfast, including lack of choice and surcharges. I am writing this at 6.15am and we are going to have breakfast in Corsham instead. In fact we were curious and so went into the breakfast room. There was indeed a £2 Cover charge per person in order to access the “included” breakfast. The very nice waiter in the restaurant explained that unfortunately that is what he has been told to demand but he asked that we convey our dissatisfaction to the reception, which we did. Like so many others, I am also conveying it again in this review.
Clean and convenient location.
Dim lights - internal steps not safety marked Dinner menu poor Dining Room plants overpowering Entrance to remote building not clearly marked
The setting was lovely and decor was amazing ... but
Glass shower door was very stiff to move as it was found to be dragging on its shower base - this resulted in my wife slipping over and hurting herself- we reported it to reception- although the guy apologised no investigation was put in place and no manager came forward to find out more - we felt like we were just trying it on ! We tried attending breakfast but my wife was in too much discomfort so after initial tea and coffee I cancelled cooked breakfast and on leaving was confronted with request to pay for breakfast each which we did not eat - we also purchased the bed and breakfast option but was informed this didn't include the cooked breakfast option which wasn't clearly highlighted on purchase or on arrival. The venue as we said was lovely but the management skills on reception need looking at for sure . We have sinced sent an email to ' enquiries ' but no reply or phone call - generally shocked
A delight on the senses
No sign at the entrance
Location
Reception was slow Rooms tired bathroom low quality Breakfast cover charge annoying
Beautiful setting both in terms of the building and gardens. Tranquil. Food was a step up in quality from a chain 4* hotel and good value for money
Some work required in communal areas in coach house.
The main house was as we expected,!with amazing unusual interiors. The restaurant was again. Special and the food although a very limited choice, was excellent. The restaurant staff were lovely.pillows and bed linen were superb.
Our accommodation in the coach house wasn’t cleaned properly. We found a previous occupants panties in plain sight. After taking them to reception and complaining that the room hadn’t been cleaned properly we had expected it to be thoroughly serviced the next day. It wasn’t. On picking up my shoes from the knee hole in the desk I found a previous occupants sock!!the entrance into the Coach house and stairs leading to our room stank of sewage. The lift was out of action. The room was generally tired with rotten skirting board in the bathroom. A very poor hospitality tray. Not even a biscuit. And a very marked trolly to stand it on. The lighting is so “moody” that putting on makeup is almost impossible. I had to stand in the window with a hand held mirror I travel with in order to see what I was doing. I would not stay in the Coach house again.
The decor was fab ,
The staff wern't helpfull upon arrival .
Warm welcome. Spacious, stylish and comfortable room. Very nice staff at breakfast.
Smell of drains in the staircase leading to our bedtime.
Great value. Superb location and great transport link with the bus (£14 family day pass on 231) right outside into Bath. Quirky as you like, don’t write it off if you can cope with a little bit of a rough edge. We found the entrance easily with Google maps and having read the reviews re. no signage. The main house is an impressive building and the staff were friendly and helpful, arriving early and needing to arrange a late evening check in when we returned from a day in Bath. Even the big man was there and said hello. Room (ground floor Coach House)was spacious and comfortable. The linen was clean, bed comfy and had a decent shower with lovely toiletries provided. Yes, a bit dark until you turn the lamps on, yes, carpet a little worn and yes, the doors banged. But the decor, art work, prints and sculptures in the room, lounges, dining hall, saloon bar and entrance just make this place unforgettable. Breakfast on the morning was brilliant too (well worth £8.50 sup which is advertised and very clear on menu) and again, restaurant staff very pleasant and attentive. It may not be polished or pristine to everyone’s standards, but we wanted somewhere local to Bath which wasn’t going to cost the earth to stay (and park). We took a chance, and we’d definitely go back.
All the negative reviews. Well worth it for the experience.
The staff, food and decor were great. Good location to get into bath. Dog friendly. Would stay again.
Amazingly quirky!
Overwhelming sewage smell in the Coach House where several of the bedrooms are housed.
We loved this quirky hotel. The food was absolutely fantastic and it was great that it was included in the price. The service was great too, with lovely friendly and helpful staff.
We liked it all.
Well designed property with tuns of character and very clean
Bathroom, bed comfortable.
Rush mat flooring had a very fishy odour. No fan in room, very warm. No where to hang long dresses. Carpet on stairs, leading to room frayed. Breakfast was supposed to be included, pricing not made clear on booking, so was confusing.
Le petit déjeuner super. Les cadres le jardin les décoration …
Rien
Very quirky, lovely rooms in the main house, great food. Restaurant staff excellent
You can’t directly ring them to discuss anything. You have to email them and response to these can take several days. Would prefer tea/ coffee facilities in the room. No option to order snacks/ food until 6pm
Liked the whole feel about the place, rooms were roomy, restaurant was amazing and the general feel.was good
Service charge on everything £2 Breakfast, although bed with breakfast, that meant a slicenof toast. for a cooked breakfast we had to pay £9 plus a service charge. felt like hidden costs. A small glass of orange juice for breakfast was £5 that was disappointing
The food was great and very reasonably priced. The main house is very quirky. Beautiful building.
Bathroom could have been cleaner. The room (1) was quite small so we could have done without 8 cushions on the bed.
Sehr, sehr außergewöhnlich.
It's always a pleasure to stay at the Rudloe. The food is excellent.
If you want to watch TV go for one of the Coach House rooms. The restaurant menu doesn't change frequently enough.
Perfect location for what I needed with excellent food and lovely staff
Main house had a musty smell
The breakfast was good.
The latch on the door was snapped off and the door wouldn’t lock properly. I complained to the receptionist and she just said thanks for letting us know we’ll get maintenance to fix it. I explained I felt unsafe and had to put the luggage rack and suitcase propped against the door so I felt safe enough to go to sleep! The room was also quite worn with a frayed carpet and it wasn’t very clean and had a strong smell of damp. I was staying in the separate outbuilding not the main house. The main house looked much nicer.
Food, location
So disappointed. We were looking forward to quirky, individual, mad, excellent food.....but no....!! No consideration for guest comfort...the room temperature was 35° plus and we were told there were no fans or Aircon units. We ended up staying overnight in a local aircon Travelodge and coming back for meals we had pre paid....an awful experience! The building is swamped with ivy right up to the windows.....in the hot weather with the the windows that can be opened, open..... there are sooo many moths and bugs in the room..!! Then experienced the hidden charges...£2 cover for each meal, £5 if you want fruit juice for breakfast, £5 if you want red cabbage with your evening meal...we had pre-paid for meals.... awful behaviour. This place appears set up for MPW's pals then rips commoners off who are offered a slice of their lifestyle. An extremely disappointing experience.!!
Lovely place We're it was
Nothing
Quirky venue with exceptional staff.
It was during the heatwave and the bedrooms were unbearably hot and airless. Fans were not available.
Lovely building
Rude staff. Smelly rooms.
A lot of the wooden furniture was from Robert Thompson (the Mouse Man) and was lovely. The size of the bedroom and bathroom was OK.
We booked this hotel 6 weeks prior to arrival and stated that my wife needs gluten free food. We received a reply to say that this was noted. When we arrived, there is no signage at the front gate, or at the hotel itself. The front door was locked. When we did get in to check in, the key for the room (room 7) we booked couldn’t be found. We were asked to sit in the lounge (there are 3) whilst it was looked for. The arms of the settees and chairs were so dirty that my arm stuck to the fabric. On her return the receptionist said that a new floor was being laid in the room, so she moved us to room 3 (we later saw that it was room 5 that had the new floor) Room 3 was painted a burgundy colour! Walls and ceiling, so it was very dark. The room had 2 ceiling lights, one of which didn’t work, and 4 table lamps. All gave out light to the equivalent to 40 watts so it looked dismal. It was so dark that we needed our phone torch to determine that there was a sculpture next to the wardrobe. We didn’t expect air-conditioning, but there were no fans and the windows had been painted over so many times that they wouldn’t open. In 30+deg C, it was so difficult to sleep The wardrobe had only 4 coat hangers. The bathroom had a bath but no shower (we booked through Booking.com which didn’t highlight this) They even removed the lever to allow us to use the shower extension of the tap. We asked to be moved to a room with a shower. There are no rooms in the Manor house with showers, but there are in the Coach house, so we had a look at a couple. None of the rooms had 2 chairs and were very small so we decided to return to room 3 as allocated. At breakfast we looked at the menu and saw that a glass of juice was £5 extra, and that a full English breakfast also had an additional charge of over £8. This is not acceptable for a hotel that we were paying £400 per night for. When the server came to ask what we wanted my wife stated that she needed gluten free food. He replied that they don’t stoc
We loved the eclectic mix of ornaments furnishings etc the rustic style of the dining room and the posters of many entertainment stars through the years. Our inclusive dinner and breakfast was great!
Very nice decor
This is a very eclectic hotel, it is not a typical chain being very personally decorated throughout in a style that you may love (or not). Expect to pay more than your half board price for your stay. Food was good in a lovely restaurant that needs to be experienced.
Not easy to find, signage is minimal and overgrown, making it look like a private house. Even reception is down a corridor from the entrance hall. Bar prices and extras are at premium prices. The designer bar has all anonymous bottles, so you don’t know what you are drinking my Cuba libre with lemonade instead of coke was £25 instead of £14 for the original cocktail.
Quirky. Interesting decor. Beautiful setting. Room really tastefully decorated. Breakfast good. Loved the breakfast room and gardens.
Entrance to annexe building shabby, old doors , carpets frayed, damp smelling. Really let the rest of the property down. Reception staff cold, unwelcoming and particularly unhelpful. Why employ people like that in jobs facing the public!? Bizarre. Took £100 from my account for 4 days?? No idea or explanation why. No other booking.com property I have stayed at has done this. Room lovely but very hot, no fans, and very dark. Very difficult to put on make up or do hair. Also, no reply to e-mails or phone calls.
It was ok as a hotel, nice location and food was limited in choice but well cooked
It was hard to find the reception or anyone to help. Contacting the hotel after I left was nearly impossible a lot of calling and chasing to resolve my issue
The meal on Saturday was lovely
The lighting was not good in the room the room was not clean on Sunday we had no clean towels or any tea coffee I had to complain . breakfast not may choices and some foods and drink where not in the price you had to pay extra
Niets
Lovely decor. Quiet and tranquil location.
Breakfast rate did not include Full English Breakfast. This was only available for a supplement. Breakfast had a £2 per person cover charge. The amount is irrelevant. It’s the penny-pinching optics of charging extra for a booking rate which already includes breakfast. If you need the £2 then add it into the room rate. Avocado breakfast was not nice at all. Avocado had been likely ripened in hot water. The taste was off and some pieces were very hard. Room was too hot with no ventilation. Main room light did not work. Labels left on bathroom suite which just shows poor attention to detail.
Great hotel,staff and foid
Public areas in bedroom block decoration to bring u to standard of rest of property
I imagine that was quite a cool place when it was first developed
No signs anywhere around the entrance to tell you were in the right place.Carpets dirty, windows not cleaned, entrance like an old hospita and dirty stairsl, lift out of order, new joinery to our door not painted. decorative items missing from the wall but the fixings and screws still in the wall. kettle on an extension lead. threshold to shower was rotten wood and had been kicked in. mouldy mastic around the shower tray. balcony metal railings rusty. Everything was very run down. If we weren't attending a wedding close by we would not have stayed and wanted our money back
The room was nice and the bed was really comfortable best nights sleep in a hotel I’ve had for a while
The house wasn’t to my taste and I didn’t like the extra service charge for breakfast and having to pay for options on the breakfast menu when it stated breakfast included
