This is a beautiful, quiet place. We really enjoyed our stay. The service was excellent, and the food was great. We would definitely love to come back!

The place is serene and relaxing. The spa facilities are good and I enjoyed my therapy session very much. The staff at the lodge are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home and welcome. They even had coffee brought to our room the next morning as arranged the previous evening. The food was delicious - the chef knows his stuff. The restaurant is cosy and warm with a fireplace which was super since we had an unusually cold wet Spring weekend.
There is nothing not to like.
The staff was amazing, we went for a last minute spa treatment and was 10/10 excelent!, the safari was good - the only thing we didn’t like was that our ranger was pissing off the rhinos making circles in the car around them (obviously they tried to attack the car and he was laughing) , the elephant experience was great. The picture of the people with the elephant on the hills is only if the elephant is around and you can feed them, it’s not a normal situation or included in the elephant experience.
I only put 9/10 because the drinks are not included, this is a place that you want to come and relax and at least the water or not alcoholic drinks in the meals with the all inclusive package must be included in the price. And also that you have to be with your wallets in the activities because the tips are at the moment, not as other lodges that leave a envelope in your room.
The spectacular view of animals
On their Facebook Page they specifically advertise a special "complimentary elephant experience" valid specifically for the weekends of 21-23 August valid for two nights stays - which we did. To our surprise we had to pay extra for the elephant excursion. The receptionist also made a mistake by giving us the wrong price per person for the elephant excursion and the next day when we checked out of the hotel, the elephant excursion price suddenly doubled and her excuse was that she was new there . Not very impressed... :( Their staff need better training.
The Spa and interaction with the elephants

The lunch with elephant experience and game drive was the highlight.

Breakfast average, found food cold Did not have lunch. Dinner good vaiety tater, ala Carte well presented, drinks took long to serve. Sunday brunch excellent. Elephant show spectacular
No bath, only shower.
The food, game drive, the view with animals roaming around
Reception didn't call me back to inform if they found my sunglasses or not
The location, the activities, the facilities.

Location and scenery were great
The rooms were underwhelming, certainly not 4 star quality. Our sliding door constantly went off the track making coming in and out of our room difficult, our bathroom door couldn't close etc

Everything was wonderful
Excellent service from staff and the rooms are great.
Very good stuff I’ve been travelling a lot I’ve never met stuff so friendly like the stuff at African Hills Lodge. Respect of other people and the humbleness within them out of this world. The room Cleaning was the best even clean when we went for dinner and when we come back the room was clean they changed towers and the room is smelling nice that was out of this world for me. The game Driving this guy called Thabo , he did an amazing job he explained everything in detail you can tell that you have love for animals and he knows his job well and he respect everyone. It was me and my husband we were sharing a car with this family that has his two boys those boys sometimes they where misbehaving the way he addresses them he was patient and he understand they are just kids and they are on vacation . Every question that we wanted to know about animals he answered with knowledge I even went to ChatGPT to verify some of the things and I bet everything was perfectly explained . I even felt like it’s overqualified for the job but the way he was doing the job you can tell that he have passion and love for his work I was impressed my money did not go to waste. And this was not my first game Drive , I’ve done a couple of game drive before , but this was the first one that I can see made more sense. If you go there and you meet Thabo as your instructor you will come back loving animals even better. My husband lost a charger I called reception and they borrowed as their own charger within a minute it was delivered in our room mind you this was around 4 am in the morning the answer the call quickly and they delivered what we wanted even though we did not ask for it. This made me realise that they wanted to make sure that I was the was not stressing us and it did not.
The gardening outside it’s beautiful but it needs someone to take care of it . They were leaves everywhere the grass was not properly green I felt like it needed that to make it a 10 out of 10 I gave it 9 out of 10 because of the person who was taking care of the gardening is not doing an exceptional job

The staff were excellent
I enjoyed the game drive, it was not rushed and well executed.

What an incredible weekend away. The location is absolutely beautiful and staff so attentive. The game drives were informative and the highlight was the elephant interaction. Really recommended for a day visit or a few nights stay.
In the current cashless era, it would be easier to tip the guides and handlers with QR codes in the game drive truck and at the elephant station. Just a suggestion, every thing was absolutely perfect.
Beautiful and relaxing

Good position close to Jhb and setting was great. Friendly efficient staff.
Accommodation had a shared coffee station area, and door between our room and this common area did not lock. Buffet meal on Saturday night was mediocre, with limited choices and many dishes being cold or only luke warm. Well below expectations based on previous reviews and the 4 star rating.
The staff is great. The elephant experience was a highlight for me.
The cleaning can do better, some parts of the room were dusty and lil webs on the bathroom windows
Food was really tasty, all meals! Staff extremely friendly
The place was beautiful and quiet. Enjoyed the elephant experience. The food was also good.
We booked the game drive, the mountain hike and a spa massage. The game drive and massage were excellent. The mountain hike was disappointing. The room came with breakfast and dinner. The food was great.
We booked the mountain hike. Sadly, it was very underwhelming. For the price paid, we expected an interactive guide with animal and bird sighting and explanations. There was none of this. We were driven to the starting point. The trail was very short, about 2.5 to 3km in total, up and down the mountain. Seemed like the guide was in a hurry to get back. Will not recommend it.
The people. The staff are attentive, personable without being overbearing and always ready to help. The rest of the staff are exceptional. Even greetings from the groundskeepers, and a very attentive catering team. The restaurant staff and manager are some of the best waiters and front of house I have ever seen at any venue in SA. We will be back for sure!
Greetings at reception. Initial greeting was a bit cold, as we had not been to the lodge before and seemed like a little offish.
I liked that elephants are roaming. I liked that its clean.
The food was not good and it takes long to come. We even had to cancel dessert cause every meal took long to prepare. The service was not good, took 30min to get something to drink. The facilities are outdated especially for the value for money.
The location of the property is quite and peaceful with variety of animals and great views. The food tasted good, however variety would be appreciated. The game drive and elephant interaction was my highlight. The game drive had most animals and the driver (Clerance) made the drive interactive and educational.
The bathroom to our room had an unpleasant smell the whole time and it was too small. Tried the spa facility and the massage was not value for money,it was bad, too much oil on the body with no benefits of the massage. The food was delicious however the menu was not accomodative to people of colour, most people complained of the options on the menu. Requested a birthday set up to the room and the price charged vs what received was a scam. I wouldnt advise one to take the option for the room set up for this facility. definately not a place for celebrating special occasions....atleast not for me
Serenity
Dinner options could be better
Every single thing! The antelope walking around The stuff...so professional, accommodating, friendly and patient The new pool area The views are out of this world The food ..comfort food! Loved it The sheets The little touches in the bathroom The birthday wine I always come for the Sunday buffet but it was my first time sleeping over..hea ven

Great stay in spacious room. Excellent food in restaurant. Staff was very helpful. Enjoyed the game drive
Beautiful Setting close to Jhb. Animal viewing was great - this should be included in price
Bathroom vent was rattling loudly . geyser outside was wet and cables exposed. Glass was on the paving
Game drive
The food not so good must be a new seff
The premises are well maintained and the staff is lovely. We enjoyed seeing roaming wildlife at the dam. The restaurant ambience was superb, and we enjoyed the breakfast and dinner. The game drive was superb and the museum is informative and well preserved.
The lunch menu is limited.
The entire stay, experience, accommodation, food, staff friendliness, service, spa treatments, wildlife on your doorstep, swimming pool, museum etc. was fantastic. It is a wonderful quite peaceful relaxing atmosphere. It is a fantastic place to be pampered, spoiled and just unwind. My wife and I loved every moment. we recommend a spa day before you check in to get you relaxed so you can enjoy your stay. The food is exceptional. thanks to each and every staff member for making our stay one to remember, come rain or shine.

The Bush
Our room had a lovely view of the waterhole
I wasn’t excepting a buffet dinner every night - I saw many reviews about the good food - so that was disappointing
Great all aspects
The staff were absolutely amazing, I realise that’s not the reason you visit a place but I was blown away. The property is beautiful, we had chalet no 8 and I would choose this again, you get to spend hours just watching animals from the patio, the game drive was wonderful, the meals fabulous and the spa wonderful too. I absolutely loved my stay and 3 days was perfect (although I didn’t want to leave)
Pool service could have been better BUT they are building a new pool near the rest with stunning views so I will be returning to give it another try
Serene
Didn't get to see the lions
Dinner and breakfast was included. Dinner was A la carte and they had lovely options to choose from. Breakfast was a wonderful Buffet with everything you could wish for. The service was brilliant. We booked the standard room, on arrival we noticed that the floors were tiled. we were worried that it might be cold but the room had an aircon and warm lovely bedding.
Friendly staff and excellent food!
The monkeys were a bit of a nuisance.
everything was excellent
Great food and comfortable bed. Friendly staff and lovely surroundings.
Absolutely loved the food and the animals walking freely. Woke up in the morning and saw the elephants at the watering hole.
Wish the bathroom was bigger.
