This is a great hotel and Pub. Clean, nice food, beautiful building. Situated off the main road in a quiet place. Short walk uphill you have stunning views. The sea close by, and sights such as Arundel not far.
The staff are so incredibly helpful and kind. Nothing is too much trouble. This is rare in hotels. Our room was really lovely and very clean. We had an absolutely brilliant Afternoon Tea. Wendy was very helpful and another lady who got us green tea bags for the room.
Didn’t really like that the hotel was separate from the restaurant/pub. I thought the room was expensive for one night and didn’t include breakfast. For that price it really should have included breakfast. A fridge would be nice in the too and cold bottled water. I had to go outside to the other building to get cold water.
Sehr schön eingerichtet in typisch englischen Stil, sehr gepflegte Zimmer gemütlich. Nettes Lokal zum Abendessen.
Sehr schönes, typisch kleines englisches Hotel mit gemütlich ausgestatteten Zimmern. Nettes Lokal zum Abendessen.
Lovely room - very comfortable with enormous bathroom . Staff friendly
großes Zimmer, leckeres Frühstück, sehr gutes Essen
Comfortable room with all you need for a relaxing stay.
Nothing really
Handy for our needs, close to relatives. Food was fine. Room was excellent facilities wise but really expensive.
Very busy parking could be an issue, room cost a bit on the steep side.
very comfortable and reasonable value
breakfast should have been inc £4.25 for a pot of tea with 1 tea bag outrageous
Highdown is a beautiful old house in lovely gardens and the pub had a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The room was very comfortable and clean with everything you need.
There’s nothing I didn’t like!
It states it's a 3 star hotel. I thought it was at least a 4 star plus. Room exceptionaly clean, well equipped and comfortable. Even had two fans on the go as we walked in which was a lovely touch in this hot weather. Bathrrom spotless and the best shower ever! We have 2 dogs and they were well looked after with bedding, bowls, and a box of treats each, provided by the hotel. Very thoughtful! Breakfast and dinner - lots of choice and lovely food served very quickly.. All the staff were polite and friendly. Always attentative to our needs. The South Downs just a 1 min walk from the hotel which was great for our dogs and the views were amazing. We loved this hotel so much we booked another holiday here before we left.
Our stay wasn't long enough!
My 86 year old father-in-law was asked to move tables in the garden as it was reserved. No signage. So he declined to move.
A lovely place to spend the weekend. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful and the breakfast was delicious! As an added bonus we also saw the blue plaque dedicated to Mensa at the entrance to the underground. All in all a great weekend
Room very spacious, Breakfast good and the one night we had dinner was good
Unbearably hot no air conditioning and just one fan in the room had difficulty in sleeping, The breakfast had some pastries out which weren’t covered and had flies all over them so wouldn’t risk eating any of them,
Staff were friendly and the food was good.
Nothing
Food was lovely, tea room was nice. South Downs walk was gorgeous, chalk gardens were lovely to walk around and explore.
Mentioned to the staff member on checkout regarding the delivery lorry waiting outside the room window for 45 minutes at 7.20am with the engine running, it was very dismissive of the staff member didnt feel like there was a listening ear from her and not an apology. We didn't feel she was interested. However everything else was OK.
Lovely beer garden, good food and pleasant rooms.
Room was very suitable for us as my husband has mobility issues so bathroom with walk in shower was ideal. We asked for easy access room and we were on ground floor and 1st bedroom so it was perfect. Liked the decor and tea/coffee facilities.
Beautiful building and surroundings, lovely pub area. Excellent walks nearby with a lovely garden next door. History of the place very interesting. We didn't go to the tea room but it looked very busy and popular. Lovely big bath in the bedroom.
Very remote and difficult to get to if you're not driving. We went to Brighton for the day and the station is certainly walkable but I wouldn't feel safe walking along the road at night.
Alles!! Wat een tof en top hotel met super restaurant op een heerlijke locatie
Echt helemaal niets
Castelo lindo
Não tem ar condicionado e estava muito quente e abafado. Foi impossível dormir.
Pretty location
Lovely main building, nice grounds
Fantastic hotel. Great location, facilities, food, bar and staff all outstanding.
Everything was excellent
Excellent meal in bar area with friends and doggy Drinks outside first So close to South Downs to walk doggy
Would have preferred ground floor room My friend had to use a walking stick because of bad back Luckily one of the staff carried her bag to the room
Very comfortable room and location
Sometimes lack of attention due to pub seeming to take priority over hotel guests
Breakfast was lovely. Dining room was nice. The bathroom was huge in our room but we couldn't figure out for some time how to turn the shower to the different shower heads !
Shower head directions !
We loved everything
Loved it all
Plenty of space in the double room
The window had a good insect screen but mosquitos were living in a dark recess somewhere in the room. We were bitten multiple times over two nights....ouch!
Too expensive for basic accommodation
The hotel is wonderful - staff are welcoming, the room was lovely with a gorgeous bathroom and comfy bed! It was a very hot day and when we arrived the windows were open and a fan was already going in our room which I thought was a nice touch. The pub is lovely and the food was delicious - we had a great stay before Goodwood and would certainly recommend it.
Location, friendly efficient staff. Good food. Pub itself was excellent in decor and ambience.
Overlooked the carpark, there was a constant humming from a generator and noisy deliveries at 7.30am. I'm a light sleeper. Classic double room didn't warrant the price tag for a four night stay.
Mooi gebouw.
Geen airco, eten was ok maar niet top.
Lovely room, attentive staff, tasty food and comfy bed. We enjoyed our stay!
Stained carpet
The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped
Nothing
Lovely property back from road. Although turn off and turn onto very busy dual carriageway. Lovely gardens and tea shop. Good bar (although hot weather had made cask ale unable to be served as they were unable to maintain a suitable temperature which was disappointing). Thoughtful service by afternoon bar staff, recognising the needs of someone on crutches to have drinks brought to the table. Good bar and restaurant menu - although the mussels I had were of a decent size and would have been in a tasty sauce but were ruined by over liberal salting-informed staff of this but no response from chef. Nice provision of urn with iced citrus-infused ad lib water which was assiduously replenished with fresh ice. Bedroom was well arranged with plenty of storage. A third lamp on the desk area would have been good. Plenty of plug and USB sockets. Did not find a WiFi code for guests in the room? Bathroom a tad tight but with good quality, well laundered towels and washing soaps provided. Plenty of toilet roll (often hotels make you feel you need to be miserly.) Found tea and coffee trays in wardrobe (a note to this effect would have been useful near the coffee machine!) Excellent provision of a decently powered upright fan in a UK heat wave and marvellous pull down window screens to keep the mosquitos out.
Housekeeping put next day’s room change laundry on hall floor (with bed sheets down most )where everyone walks in outdoor shoes with heaven knows what being walked into the carpet! Ugh! (See pic) Also no cushion covers or bed foot throw in the pile which implied these were not changed between guests. As a disabled person using 2crutches, breakfast service was thoughtless by young lady (who looked liked she’d rather be anywhere else) - No offer to convey something from the cold breakfast bar for me, no offer to bring a glass of juice to my table. No offer of a top up on coffee. Breakfast was way too average - sausage of good quality but so overcooked a chainsaw would have been better than the blunt breakfast knife. The black pudding was like an ice hockey puck - rock hard and inedible let alone cut-able. Staff availability to complain was just not around.
It was very pretty tucked away on the South downs so great for walking our dogs. We took all 3 and the staff were great.
Drinks were rather expensive!
Really well equipped. Fan was on when we arrived so nice and cool in the hot weather. Nothing was skipped on. There were showers caps, flannels, good quality soap.
The location of the hotel was nice and easy to find I liked the fact that the sleeping accomodation was separate from the main bar. The main bar and eating area were nice although we didnt use the facilities car parking was easy
I struggled with communications with the hotel regarding the booking and felt that the staff answering the phone were not fully trained in reception duties. I felt that the reception area was poor [ the end of the bar area] and seemed to be manned by the bar staff which in itself wasnt a problem as the staff were very nice but just felt a bit ad hoc.
We liked everything - food was very good, room comfortable and peaceful/quiet, staff very pleasant - we always appreciate Serena's calm, warm welcome.
Beds a little narrow, though we did appreciate cotton sheets
Location was great
Gnats in our room
Room was quite noisy! Could hear movement in the next door bedroom.
Great location - nice rooms
Lots of gnats getting in - the mesh didn’t secure down properly so I got bitten quite a bit. Little pricey esp as we didn’t get breakfast No fridge in room
Convenient for us to visit family in Worthing and always feels like coming home to such a lovely hotel

Locatie
This place is perfect weekend getaway by the coast and only 20 minutes from Arundel Castle. The rooms are new, clean, comfortable and stylish. We had dinner and breakfast at the place and enjoyed both. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would happily return any time.
Only downside is that there is no AC in the room.
Sehr schön gelegen. Landestypisch und sehr hundefreundlich.
Food lovely with a lot of choice, staff very friendly
Nothing
Fantastic place, very beautiful and historic
Nothing
Beautiful quiet spot in the national park yet not far from town
Nothing to dislike!
Zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. De kamer was ruim en netjes. Ook mooie badkamer. Het avondeten was lekker en in een mooi decor. Het ontbijt was prima.
Niks!
Great room, excellent staff and facilities.
Cheap coffee in room, Patchy WIFI when heavy rain about.
Staff food and room best we have experienced in the UK
fan provided instead of airconditioning
Loved our stay room was perfect

Très bel endroit .bien calme
Chambre infestée de moustique malgré une moustiquaire. On en a tué une dizaine et nous fûmes malgré piques plusieurs fois .
The location of the hotel was perfect as it is in a quiet location with direct access to walks on the South Downs.
Minor issue was that the basin in bathroom was very slow to drain.
It is a pleasant location and as a B&B for a couple of nights, it is fine. Staff are nice, but its definitely a pub / b&b, not a hotel
The cleaning was not very good. We stayed for 5 nights and asked for the bedsheets to be changed, only to be told "we dont do that". I appreciate changing them everyday is overkill, but not at all in 5 nights is a little poor frankly, especially as this is not a cheap place to stay. Im not sure what constitutes a long enough stay to deliver cleanliness? I did speak to the bar manager one evening, who was rushed off her feet serving people in the bar, and to her credit, she came and changed them herself. This was a credit to her, but I feel the manager or the leadership of brunning & price should clarify what their cleanliness process is. On checkout i did reiterate this was disappointing and left my concerns, email and phone number. Over a week later I have not heard anything from anyone apart from this survey asking for my feedback, so here it is. So we paid c£900 for 5 nights room only. I'll let you decide if you think cleanliness is too much to expect in the price.
Location, amenities.
Sehr ruhige Lage
Nichts
We would have liked a drink when we returned at midnight, butbthere was no night porter.
Staff are always super friendly. Clean and modern rooms.
We were inundated by midges. There is clearly a problem as there were lots of squashed flys on the walls and ceilings from previous guests. Would be great to get a fly screen on the window so you can have it open.
Room could have been cleaner especially in the bathroom around the bottom of the bath, and dust in high places
Koselig hotell med avskjermet beliggenhet og restaurant.
Lovely hotel , smelt amazing!! and staff were fab.
at 8am a gardener statred a VERY noisy piece of machinery, my head was already sore !!
Beautiful building, great design and location. Delicious restaurant and excellent breakfast. Really comfy bed and I love the Loccitaine products in the room.
Mosquitos in the room, and a bit of a lack of attention to detail - food and drinks were delayed and no travel cot in the room on arrival. Perhaps it was a challenging day for the staff as we have been before and had a great experience.
The hotel was ideally situated for visiting various parts of Sussex, the staff were friendly, room was nice, and the evening restaurant food was excellent.
The continental breakfast was very poor with no fruit salad, cheeses, granola, only one juice, no variety of milk, and green bananas one morning. The bathroom looked fantastic and was very spacious with a free-standing bath but could have done with fresher air.
ruhige Lage an Highdown Gardens, fußläufig Wanderungen durch den South Down Nationalpark möglich. Sehr freundliches Personal, leckeres Frühstück und Essen im Restaurant. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt
man bekommt, was man erwartet .... alles passte
Super location with gardens adjoining. Breakfast good.
Hotel is dog friendly which is fine but two dogs in room next to us left on their own all day barking. Impossible for my husband to have a nap. Was not impressed with the Manager's handling of the situation. Lovely tea rooms but they shut at 3 pm so unable to get afternoon tea.
The whole weekend was fantastic. We were there for a family wedding including the supper before at the Highdown and I cannot fault one thing. An amazing stay, thank you
Nothing
Fantastisk atmosfære. Nydelig hage. Flott rom og bad. God mat. Anbefales
Location was good for Highdown garden and Teashop. The accomodation annex building itself was fairly new but layout not good for anyone with walking issues. I booked ground floor accommodation but there are three steps up and three steps down to room 6 which we were allocated so not ideal for my elderly mother. Room itself was clean and beds were comfortable, with tea and coffee plus water included. However there was no rubber mat for the shower or grab handles, although I appreciate this was not a room for disabled these items would also of been helpful for myself not just for Mother.
everything went well..even the small glitches were almost charming. it was a wonderful stay, the food was very good and the staff charming
The staff were all excellent and attentive. The bar and restaurant looked fantastic.
The sound insulation from within the bedroom was very sub-standard. The TV and conversation from the adjacent room was very audible late into the night (past midnight). The dinner menu was appetising but when the belly pork arrived it was soft with no crackling although being described as crispy on the menu. The flavours of the meal weren't balanced, too rich and over cooked unfortunately. The smashed avocado for breakfast was too oily and wasn't eaten.
breakfast was ok. nothing more.
Clean, modern rooms. Gorgeous bathroom and toiletries.
Great place to stay. Food is amazing and staff ever so helpful. There are great walks that start from the hotel as well. There is a lovely tea room there as well. Parking is easy.
Staff went out of their way to make sure our room was to the correct specifications we required.
Our stay was exceptional - so many thoughtful touches in our room and en-suite and everything was of the best quality. We stayed for three nights and chose to eat at The Highdown every morning and evening as the food was just excellent! We were made to feel so welcome by the team - we will definitely be back. Thank you for a brilliant stay!
There is absolutely nothing that could have been improved, everything was perfect.
Location Good room Good value Food excellent
Breakfast very average
Good parking, lovely room and staff. Very good breakfast and helpful staff. Lovely ambiance and furnishings.
I arrived just before 9pm to check in. No signposts visible to hotel reception. The staff needed to check if i could have a sandwich and a coffee and requested payment before i had got to the room. Room was lovely but stairs with a suitcase and two bags without any offer of help. The toilets from the bar are uo two flights of stairs.
Situated next to South Downs National Park and High down Gardens, this doggy friendly hotel is very comfortable and clean room. Lovely pub/restaurant. Very friendly staff.
Very impressed with facilities for the dog. Gift, snacks, feeding bowls, bed and poo bag!
Good parking. The bed was very comfortable and the linen and towels were excellent. Very convenient to be able to eat there as it is a distance from town. Lovely garden next door.
Nothing
Room was comfortable, location very good. Staff very friendly. I would highly recommend,
