Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The room was very small and cramped, and the bathroom wasn’t particularly great either, but the biggest issue by far was the food and kitchen service in the evening. A large proportion of the menu was unavailable, which left us with very limited choice. We eventually ordered two lasagnes, but when they arrived, one was completely cold in the centre and clearly hadn’t been heated through properly. The other was hot, but the quality was still very poor. We returned the cold lasagne as it was genuinely inedible, only to be told that it had been the last one available. We then ordered the hunter’s chicken instead, which meant we ended up having to eat separately. Although this was at least hot, again the quality of the food was really not good. I do want to say that the front-of-house staff did their best to deal with the situation and removed the cost of the hunter’s chicken from the bill, which we appreciated. However, by that point the damage had really been done. The whole experience was so disappointing that we didn’t even consider having breakfast there the following morning. Unfortunately, not somewhere we would choose to stay or eat again.

My room was in the ‘annex’ which was a small building attached to the main property. The wall between my room and the next room was so thin I could hear them snoring all night. The room was dusty (picture of spider cob web above bed attached) and could have been cleaner. Smelt a bit musty too. Breakfast was disappointing.

An old quaint building with great charm, staff were very helpful and friendly. Secure parking at rear of building.

Probably the worst place we've stayed at, requested early check in which was approved beforehand only to wait at reception for 10 minutes for someone to check us in, took payment for early check in and then said she needed to check the rooms were ready?! We probably waited about an hour for them to sort and a lady that I presume was the manager was very rude and instead of being apologetic said she only had one cleaner that day and previous guest only check out at 11 and she'd have to clean them herself. Why let your staff agree in advance when you cant fulfill plus it was all noted on the booking in advance, they just didnt seem very organised. The rooms are basic, quite dated, small and look nothing like the photos and we even had the cleaner let herself in our room while we were still there, it was a good job we weren't in the shower! Breakfast was equally shocking and unorganised although the food did look quite nice when it eventually came out and they did cater for allergies with a tablet, we gave up after an hour of waiting for a sausage sandwich and portion of sourdough toast! This hotel has a lot of potential but is badly managed and in serious need of updating.

Locality and price

With on site parking available, a good breakfast, a clean room and frindly staff I was very happy with my stay. It was incredbly good value taking account of what I considered a very good price. I've got to mention Scarlet, who was great fun, part of a really good team at Abbey Fields.

For some unknown reason my room was very warm but opening the window at night overcame that easily. Otherwise, everything else was really good.

Decor needs updating. Cobwebs in restaurant. Shower had no pressure and shower head to small. Room in which we stayed was noisy right over the womens toilets down stairs . You could here the hand dry every time it went off. Room needs an update.

Lights not working in bathroom. Only 1 Bath towel for 2 people (was provided when we asked) Room very warm, and window opening was restricted. Fans were provided but this wasn't enough to cool down the room.

Breakfast was Luke warm , the tea and coffee was cold , the bedroom was shabby in need of a paint and new furniture

The food was good although some of breakfast was cold and the eggs overcooked. Burger and fish were good in the evening.

Freezer broke down. So menu item’s unavailable at dinner and at breakfast At breakfast, t water for tea was put in a flask. Water was not hot enough for tea. No kettle was available to provide boiling water. It was very disappointing. Chef on for Thursday breakfast was not good. EG Poached eggs were hard. On Wednesday no butter was put out for breakfast

Room was hot and stuffy. Window would only open 6 inches. Bathroom was boiling. Hot water tap on bath would not open. Room was very small. Felt like a prison. Television was very small , about 12 inches wide. I couldn’t see from pillow end of bed.

Good breakfast. Attentive and friendly staff. Comfortable dining room and bar area . Very good fan in the room to help with heat.

Room was fine, larger than expected for a single room, and quite comfortable. Everything was clean and the shower had plenty of pressure. Breakfast was okay.

No air-conditioning and it was a very hot couple of days. A fan was provided and that helped but it wasn't really enough to allow for a comfortable night's sleep. Staff were friendly enough but on arrival the front-desk person told me that to find the car park I should just take the left outside of the hotel and I'd find the car park on that street. In reality you have to take that left, then another left about 50-60 yards down onto another road, and then left again to get to the car park.

The room was absolutely the correct size and the bed was super comfy and cosy. Pillows are fantastic. Tv was great. The room has everything that you need. Even a fan or radiator. Wonderful

Dinner was very good with a great choice and variety. I had to change rooms because the one I had first had no windows which I felt a bit claustrophobic. Ryan changed my room no problem. The current staff are friendly and attentive.

The passageways need decoration. This let the building down I thought. The reception, bell, office and general specification of the lobby is below the overall standard which gives a poor first impression.

The carpet in the bedroon was staind,the mattress did not fit the bedframe , the resturant and bar area was very dusty with dead flies ect on window sill and shelves

The main light in the room didn't work, and staff were unable to rectify the fault. The water drained incredibly slowly from the shower tray, so potential risked overflowing. Somebody (either the previous occupant, or the cleaner). could have done with using the toilet brush.

Great staff, Cleanliness. Coffee bags in the room as opposed to instant. Quiet. Shower water pressure very good. The room was a little small but adequate for me, unable to comment on the other rooms.

Limited parking, arrive early or wait to park after people leave the pub.

Some staff were less than helpful, Tiny steep stairs and low headroom to room entry. Nearly hit head every time entering or exiting room.. Small hot room with no fan. Shower was tiny. Limited room for opening suitcases.

Staff seemed very indifferent and did not ask us about any aspects of our stay at anytime. There was no interaction with us whatsoever. They didn't ask how our stay had been and were unhelpful. The bathroom was rusty in places and dirty. The dining area had cobwebs next to our table and the floor was sticky.

There was a difficult staircase (due to the age of the building) to get to our original allocated room But the very helpful staff understood my difficulty with the stairs and allowed us to move to a ground floor room

Although it says no air conditioning on the website it has air cooling in the room and it is sufficiently quiet to be on all night, ideal in the recent heat wave Food in the bar is nice with a reasonable range of items Kenilworth is a great venue if travelling in the area as it is easy to access so many other places

Minor points that could easily be improved 1. there is a small car park but it is not signposted and it would be ideal if directions to find it were included in the confirmation email 2. cooked breakfast is prepared to order, which means it is very fresh but takes a long time. We didn't have time to eat it once it arrived

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at both breakfast and dinner was generally good. The room was fine for my purpose since I was out for most of the day. The location on the old High Street in Kenilworth was very pleasant.

The decor away from the public areas was a little tired in places. Two small niggles - the toilet seat in my room did not stay upright when necessary and if you stayed in the bath for more than a few minutes, the motion sensor light in the bathroom went out.

Great location in centre of old town; very picturesque and loads of interesting shops and walks to castle and other sights.

Very poor food quality; greasy and not at all tasty. This applied to both the lunch and breakfast. Although menu looks interesting it is clearly not freshly made and has that sad pub taste of deep fried everything. Also half the choices were unavailable. Even the cask beers were a bit rubbish. Room up awkward stairs and decor very faded and untidy; several room lights did not work. Staff not very professional and a bit unhelpful.

Chambre trop bruyante (donnant sur la rue), pas d’eau chaude dans la salle de bain, beaucoup de poussière sur les lampes, sèche cheveux qui ressemble à un jouet, et temps d’attente trop long au dîner et au petit déjeuner (plus d’une heure). Il manquait aussi souvent des ingrédients (plus d’avocats et de bacon alors que c’était encore l’heure du petit déjeuner)

We liked our room, as it was clean and light. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion was provided, which we appreciated

We paid for some evening meals, but had to wait one hour after ordering them. Also when the meals arrived, the quality of some of the food was disappointing.

The breakfast could have been better, we wait for quite a while and the toast in my poached eggs was so hard , lack of juice etc

Quite a few things ran out, Friday evening no aperol, Saturday morning no avocado, Sunday morning bacon, all could have been sorted with a bit of thought

I liked that the hotel provided lots of fans as there is no air conditioning in the hotel and it was a very hot weekend.

Breakfast was poor compared to my previous visits. Kitchen had run out of various items so unable to offer some of the hot breakfast items. No orange juice on a couple of mornings. Bananas well past their best. The bedrooms/bathrooms could do with some attention the carpet in my room was stained in places.

Breakfast was poor with uncooked sausages and we waited to long. The menu was uninspiring so we ate at the pub across the road. The lack of a full time manager makes for an impersonal experience with constantly changing staff. I had reason to speak to staff who were making a noise outside my bedroom window late at night.

Was there during heat wave. Rooms extremely hot and stuffy -no air con and couldn’t open windows fully. There were fans but mine wouldn’t oscillate. Despite trying for over 5 minutes running the cold tap we could NOT get any cold water - just a little below body temperature at best. Continental breakfast selection extremely limited but cooked good although avocado on toast somewhat overpriced.

Absolutely amazing location. Great room very clean . We did eat in the restaurant- amazing quality and very tasty, staff very friendly and ready to help.

We stayed when temperatures were reaching 34 degrees. Personally I think should be a different duvets for different seasons. Our was very thick winter duvete. And unfortunately no AC in the room . Often nobody on reception.

Our last night was disturbed by an staff leaving event until 2:30 a.m. - we requested compensation with the manager which was agreed but so far we haven't received any compensation.

TV on the wall was in a silly place and was very glitchy,(room 26) not a big minus but a minor annoyance, it was a really hot night and although they provided 2 fans neither really did much, on a normal evening this wouldn't have been a problem really, the hotel can't be blamed for outside temperatures 😄😄
