The night sky, the solitude
Peaceful and beautiful. Amazing views from the stoop, the hosts are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The lambs kept us entertained during the day, and the farm dogs in the evening, fantastic.
Takes a bit of time to get used to being off grid, but we knew that, sometimes it's needed :)
My stay was absolutely peaceful & refreshing. The beauty of the mountains & the calmness of the nature made me feel so close to God. It was the perfect place to pray, reflect & truly surrender everything to Him. I left feeling renewed, at peace & deeply grateful for such a serene experience.
Having to leave😞
Splendid location in the mountains. Enjoyed sitting on the small verandah soaking up the view, beautiful sunsets and night stars. Interesting off grid experience.
I understand off grid has its limitations, but the fridge could have been colder.
Beautiful farm very peaceful and quiet, privacy is next level perfect for a romantic couple stay. The outside bath was a very nice bonus and even though the farm is off grid, every comfort and amenity was provided and worked perfectly. Wendy is very friendly and this bungalow is a rustic little gem.
Directions to the farm need to be obtained from the host before departure as the location pin takes you in the opposite direction of where you need to go.
The quiet and location at the foot of a mountain. The dogs and sheep whom we named. Wendy, our host was fantastic.
The hot nights but luckily the fans kept us cool.
We honestly loved everything. I can’t find a single thing to complain about. Our hearts were open and so was our hostess who gave us free reign on the farm! We entered the property as 3 (myself, husband and dog) but spent the weekend as 4 as their adorable, most beautiful boerboel came to join us for the entire weekend! Lighting a fire, soaking in the bathtub and watching the stars was the absolute highlight for us. We will definitely be returning. It honestly felt like home. There is just so many things I could say about this place. But the most important and evident was the presence of God - He was everywhere, constant and undeniable.
The red door, the view, the bathtub, the stars, the fresh mountain water, the shoes used as plant pots, the beautiful Boerboel, Coshaan, the super comfy and cozy feeling, the sheep grazing in the field, the amphitheatre of mountains, the stoop area, the Lizzard from Costa Rica, the yellow frame of the mirror in the bathroom, the white cross on the hill of the neighbouring farm and the most welcoming and warm hosts Wendy and Gerben. This place is more special and unique than a pearl! We loooooooooved every moment of it!
nothing
The room was in a very good condition and very comfortable, especially the bed. Nice to just relax and enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountains, really peaceful. Perfect fit for 2 people. The outside bath was the 🍒 on the cake overlooking the mountains!! Wendy came to greet us and was very friendly.
The toilet is next door to the room, which meant we had to go outside when using the toilet which was quite often during the night, and it was really cold at night, but I did not mind because we only stayed for 1 night. Other than that it was perfect.
The bath over-looking the landscape and the ability to make a fire is excellent. The way the unit was put together is excellent, everything is repurposed in a beautiful way.
I think in winter time when it is rainy and windy the entertainment area could be chilly as the bedroom, bathroom and lounge area is accessed from the outside.
Everything about this little place!!!! It's gorgeous!!
Nothing at all
Bubble bath with a view!
No complaints
Wendy is the most amazing host and makes you feel very welcome! The location has stunning views of the mountains and the location is very quiet which makes for a peaceful getaway. It's a very short drive to town which we did for a dinner the one evening and felt very safe driving back in the dark. The outside bath is a beautiful touch and is a really unique and relaxing experience! The bed/bedding is also extremely comfortable which made for a really good nights sleep too.
Perfect
Everything was perfect
I booked Witzenberg Base Camp for family members who were attending a function in Tulbagh. Wendy was incredibly accommodating and very responsive to messages. My niece and her partner stayed there and they were both very complimentary about the venue and Wendy's service too. They LOVED the farm setting, and waking up to the sound of cows was a very novel experience for the two city slickers. What made their experience even more magical, was that her partner proposed while they were there... and she said YES! Thank you so much, Wendy. I will certainly book Witzenberg Base Camp again.
Superb location, very relaxing, has a real farm feel
The refrigerator. Could do with a bigger fridge. Uses a camping size car fridge which does not cool too wel
Exceptionally beautiful and better than expected
-it was just perfect
This place is really wonderful. I really liked that the property owners contacted me well in advance to explain how to get to the place and the check-in procedure. The check-in procedure was so smooth. The owner, Gerben, was waiting for us when we arrived to give us keys and orientation of the accommodation and facilities. The cottage is the most perfectly rustic little space with nothing more than just what you need. It is called "Base Camp" because it is "basically camping." Great for anyone who enjoys being outdoors but would like something a little comfier than a ground mat in a tent! And the bedroom sure is comfy. There is also the indoors luxuries of electric lights, wifi, and running water. The cottage overlooks the farm's fields and rolling mountains in the distance. The cottage itself has lots of little thoughtful touches like a wonderful poem written by owner Wendy explaining that bugs are part of life, but that bug spray can be purchased! (And is provided anyway - because summer-time mosquitoes are well present.) The outdoor bath is the most beautiful experience. I have simply never had such a beautiful bath in my life - sipping a glass of bubbly and watching the stars roll through the sky while wallowing in a deep, warm bath. A peace that is very hard to find in busy city life. During the day there are many blue cranes that fly between the fields. And, aside from the dogs, horses, and blue cranes, we were left totally to ourselves to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate our souls.
It is a working farm with horses and sheep that get lead in and out every morning and evening right past the little cottage. I did not mind this at all, although it was a little bit of a surprise to discover. The dogs on the farm are also very friendly and the one in particular likes to be very involved in guest life. Me and my partner are animal lovers, though I can see how this would not be everyone's cup of tea (the very involved one is a little stubborn to commands - particularly English ones. Afrikaans worked a bit better!) A little additional shade protection on the grass off the porch, around the bath would also be lekker for sitting outside in the heat of the day. This is nit-picking though, the place was really, truly wonderful. We will both happily return.
Beautiful view
A bit of a strange layout. Bathroom and kitchen disconnected from bedroom. Have to go outside. But still lovely. :):)
Great location with beautiful views, very nice owners, and lovely dogs.
Having to leave again the next day. This place is great!
Amazing off the grid stay, mountain view. Fields with flowers. There is a small stable with a couple horses in front of the bedroom. The four house dogs are friendly and always in to be petted. The outdoor kitchen and bath is amazing. Wendy left us delicious fruit and is a warm and welcoming hostess. We had a great stay.
Drive to the place is gravelroad, to be noticed. Koshaan(dog) is big, haha.
