This place is an absolute gem. I am so glad I chose to stay here with my Aunt. The staff were lovely, the food absolutely amazing and the room totally ideal.
The shower was a little cramped and awkward.
Location was great for access to Beamish museum and the angel of the north just short drive away and a great base to go further afield. Breakfast was really good with a selection of cereal, croissants, muffins, a toaster, bread and butter and different spreads, yoghurts a selection of juices, teas and coffee, and the full English breakfast was a great start to the days we were there. Staff and other guests were very friendly and quick to offer stories on their experiences
Only 10 minutes to Beamish and Newcastle. They have their own parking. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Choice of delicious hot breakfast and continental option. All our meals were tasty and not your usual pub fare. We did not find any reason to look for another place to eat. Next to Lamesley nature reserve, which was a nice bonus.
On our last dinner, which is a Monday, most the drink I asked were not available.
Lovely big room. Friendly and helpful staff. Cozy restaurant with great menu and lovely food. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We booked the hotel last minute as we had to leave our campsite due to thunderstorms ⛈️ We received a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay
The staff and accommodation were very good
Dinner was excellent, though service a little slow due to volume of people dining to people serving on
Music in dining areas a little loud for those of us who wish to communicate with each other quietly, becauses unfortunately we unlike some of the diners aren't physically attached to our mobile devices so they probably didn't even notice the music.
Comfortable, well equipped and clean accommodation, with very helpful staff, at a very reasonable price.
Friendly staff, nice food, cooked breakfast
Nothing
The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. We stayed for a couple of days whilst visiting Beamish.
If I had any complaints the bathroom paint was a bit chipped, but was clean.
Perfect location/ ample parking/ great staff/ great food
Could do with more attention to detail on standard maintainence....that's all really
Location, room once they moved us
Noise Speaker below room on ground floor, Could hear people and music from 7 am till 9 Don't know when back on but switches off at 10.30
Staff were lovely. Food was nice. We got to stay in a chalet type room. Lovely chap on reception was very helpful and nice. Great that we could take our lovely labrador with us. He enjoyed his stay.
We couldn't park the car near the chalet as the car park was full.
Quiet location, good facilities. Really good ‘special’ meal on first night - thanks to Micky, Andy, and Nina the chefs. All the staff were excellent - friendly and helpful.
Slightly too far away to walk to other eating places, but great location for travelling by car to tourist attractions in the NE
The hotel was very nice, a nice country pub vibe with a great Sunday roast and lots of alcohol free drinks to choose from. Our room was comfortable and clean. The staff very all very nice and friendly and the beer garden looked lovely although we didn't use it.
The thing that let this down for us was the breakfast. I ordered the smoked salmon and poached eggs. The eggs were undercooked and swimming in water. I returned them with no issue but the 2nd serving was just the same, undercooked and I just didn't eat them. Disappointing as the Sunday roast the night before was delicious.
The easy travelling to the beamish museum. The food. The comfortable beds. Being able to have the continental breakfast as well as the full cooked English within the breakfast price. I was able to use my Blue Light card for discount.
The room was lovely . However, there was a bit of mould in the bathroom around the shower On this visit we were able to have the continental breakfast within the cost of the full English. However, the previous stay we were charged the 2 prices which was an unexpected expense.
Breakfast was excellent. Loved the choices and quantity. The staff were accommodating and we could all sit together at a big table - wonderful. We were able to have more private areas in the bar at night to play games.
We were a little concerned to see dogs were allowed in the chalets where we were staying. I did not notice this when booking our rooms.
Cosy pub downstairs, good size rooms.
Location was not the best.
Great location, lovely quirky pub. Friendly staff
Nothing really
The property is conveniently located, the staff were helpful and very dog friendly ! There were rooms on the ground floor and a nice little walk directly off the pub car park.
The decor in general is lovely but it is a little worn in places and our room was quite warm, because there is no air conditioning but of course it is advertised as such so we were aware of this before booking.
I like the location , had a leisurely lunch in courtyard as it was a beautiful day x staff are always friendly this is the 7th time I’ve stayed
Nothing x
Quiet location. Friendly helpful staff. Fabulous restaurant, lovely food.
Excellent location for Durham and Beamish
Window wasn’t secure - rotting frames
It did what it said on the brochure
Good location, staff were great
Breakfast and Restaurant
Loved the setting in the countryside
Couple of things could have been better. Could have done with drawers in room & a we freshen up,paint wise. Restaurant some over our food was over cooked & dry. Staff were very pleasant but not so attentive when waiting for service at numerous points throughout the day. Tables could have been cleared, bins full & food on the floor
Staff are friendly and helpful Great breakfast and good Evening meals. Comfortable bed and our small dog is always welcome Dog biscuits and water in restaurant.
White voil on window was filthy and stained. The window sill was covered in dust and dirt as was the wood on the glass panes. Dead flies stuck to plaque on window sill. Extractor fan in bathroom not working making it very hot in there.
Very cosy place and staff were really nice. The surrounding area is also very nice.
Not so much I didn't like it but some of the decor could do with a good clean and painting, example passageway doors and toilet in the bar.
Staff attitude. rude only interested in closing the pub so the staff could party!
The Hotel was in an amazing location for us, only a 3 minute drive to a family members house. Right next to team valley and low fell for easy access to shops. The staff were all very friendly and willing to help. I love that it is dog friendly and the location of the rooms, having direct access to the room instead of walking through the hotel or pub was great. The bed was comfy and there was a couple extra pillows which was nice.
The room was much smaller than I was expecting the website says " unpack your things and store them away in the spacious wardrobes, ready for you to relax". There was no room to unpack, there was no drawers, no doors on the wardrobe and the room overall was very snug. There was no proper lock on the door, there was a chain but someone could still open the door from the outside. It didn't feel the most secure especially as we outside the hotel. The room needed a good dusting, and deep clean. There was no running cold water in the bathroom tap, only very hot water. Only received 1 bath towel on arrival. The room was boiling hot, thankfully the staff gave us a fan but it was still a struggle to sleep. If I was to return I would bring my own fan and stay in a larger room.
Welcoming staff, great location, lovely food and very clean
Would benefit from a small fridge in the room and also a detachable shower head
Great rooms - nice linen and towels, soap plus a great selection of tea and coffee. Breakfast was nice - muffin, toast, fruit yogurt plus cooked breakfast. Very friendly staff.
The wifi was ok but slightly unstable. Hard to find fault with the place.
The location was excellent, near motorway link , however felt rural and peaceful . Charming building and plenty of parking .
I don’t want to say didn’t like as the property and decor was to my liking , it unfortunately looked very tired , window sills and skirting and light fixing need a good clean , and upholstery was stained and thread bare in places . Our room was sufficient , clean towels , and bedding , but the bathroom shower cubical very small difficult to get in and out and tiles need grouting .
breakfast great plenty of choice room small but comfy had dinner one night home made steak pie very good
Perfect location for visiting beamish and metro centre
Restaurant was quite expensive
Location
Need to put better toilet seat as the replaced one is much smaller and it looks strange and not comfortable. Minor details but a reflection of class of maintenance!
Location, some great staff and the main common area was lovely
The room was warm even when cool outside, the bathroom had some mold on tiles but a lot on expeller
nice room in anexe bed bath/shower good
no problems
Nice rooms with parking outside - good space. Good selection of tea and coffee in rooms. Lovely bar and restaurant area with lots of outdoor space for drinks and dining too Staff very obliging and helpful
Bed was a bit hard for a disabled room
The dining area was fine
The room was in need of a good clean & refurbishment
Location, restaurant was good.
Hotel room was awful (17) smell of damp, awful shower, bathroom was very tired, front door didn’t close properly, curtains not great. WiFi didn’t work, when I asked I was told it happens all the time.
Nice place with good food available. All staff were wonderful and friendly.
Unfortunately although the rooms are no smoking, other guests smoke outside their own chalet. With the only room ventilation being at the front of the chalet the smoke affects other guests. Being woken up at 6.30am by cigarette smoke is very unpleasant
Room was clean compact bathroom. Lovely meal in restaurant/bar. Breakfast very good with lots of choice. Fabulous view of The Angel of the North from our bedroom. Also was ten minutes drive to Beamish museum which we went to meet family at for the day
Room needed a bit of re decoration in places but was clean and comfortable
Plenty of parking and good restaurant.
You can hear the music from the bar/restaurant in the room late at night and early morning, what is disappointing is the staff are aware of it but choose to do nothing about it. Not a hotel that I will stay at again.
Ok very short time could of gone on another hour while holidaying don’t want to rise to early and staff were very quick to clear tea coffee away as we wanted to sit and chat staff were very good polite and chatty
Needed a bit of TLC paint work bit untidy in corridors room was very nice
Locality was good. Staff were friendly
Damp musty smell in the room and the showers thermostat wasn’t working correctly so the water was either cold or really hot. Breakfast on a weekday finishes at 9.00am
Location good , accommodation was clean and basic but fine for a short stay. Some staff were a little slow to respond to customers and identify when something was needed but ok once engaged with. Julie in the restaurant was very good.
Some menu items were not available and some elements of the room Could have been better. TV in room did it's own thing at times. We were in a room outside the main building which got noise from people leaving.
Loved the location and the very friendly staff. The food was also very good. Although we stayed when it was very hot we had a fan and with the windows open we slept well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Everything we needed was in the room, the and coffee, iron , hairdryer etc.
No complaints at all.
Cheap
Very hot
Lovely quite area staff are friendly bedroom was lovely clean tidy
Totaal plaatje. Leuk personeel. Prachtige omgeving. Bushalte om de hoek.
Great staff, great room, decent breakfast
There was a constant humming noise, I think it was coming from the pub. It really did spoil what could have been decent stay.
Breakfast was very good Great staff Just off the main road
Room wasnt very clean....broken lamp...dirty bathroom....broken window and knackered main entry door
The staff and the ambience
No rooms with wet rooms as my partner has issues with showers over bath as she has a back issue
Location, clean and friendly staff
Nowhere very comfortable to sit in the rooms or bar in evening Decor showing a little age
Feels like luxury
Nothing
Great location for Beamish Museum. Plenty of parking. Staff were helpful. The food in the restaurant was good. Breakfast was also good. We had a family room which was large. Comfy bed.
Room was in need of improvement throughout. Hand dryer noise from below.
The staff were really lovely. The food was great - we ate in the pub both nights of our stay. We would visit for food again. Breakfast was lovely and the cooked breakfast was made to order so lovely and hot/fresh. Bed was large and comfortable. General decoration is tasteful.
The rooms require some general attention to detail and in some parts full renovation. There were lots of examples of 'painting over the cracks' and mould (in some places pained over) was an issue in the bathroom of the family room. Some windows are sealed closed for safety which I'm sure adds to the problem. The double lodge room had stained net curtains and many spiders webs in the corners. For this reason we would not choose to stay here again. This is a shame as the staff were really lovely, but no general housekeeping would solve these issues. There was some noise through the walls from others TVs etc.
Evening meal and breakfast outstanding.
Great location for Beamish museum, staff very helpful, Ross couldn't do enough for us. Liked the little cabins so you don't have to go through the pub.
Mattresses very hard and can feel springs through it, rooms a little tired need some t.l.c. window in our room wouldn't shut so always a draft, could be bad in colder months. Food was mediocre and over priced for what you got. Ordered a burger with pulled pork and cheese, brought me a dry burger with a bit of limp lettuce, complained when brought back everything else on the plate was cold, Ross was lovely and didn't charge us for the meal, but it was my Bithday meal with family, so it did spoil it.
Rally pet friendly - travelling with our small dog.
Poorly fitting doors (rooms 15-20) and noise and vibration throughout the block whenever one was closed.
Location, staff, facilities, the food, big TV,
We had a lot of spiders, and I don't like spiders, and the heating was noisy...
The location was ideal as we were visiting Beamish so just a 10 minute drive away, also a short drive to metro centre for some shopping. The staff are really friendly and the food is lovely.
Been twice now super place
Leaving
Lovely well looked after friendly staff couldn't ask for more
Called on multiple occasions also emailed several times no reply so chose not to stay
De mensen in The North East zijn vriendelijk en je voelt je er meteen op je gemak. Wij zijn al eerder in deze omgeving geweest enhet is altijd een soort thuiskomst.
Niks.
Friendly reception, quiet parking area, good location (central but quiet). Blackout curtains were a touch! The breakfast was declicious, atmosphere and decor cosy. Really good value for money.
Sash didn't close fully, allowing sound in. Music from downstairs could be heard in our room. Breakfast staff inattentive.
My chalet room outside the main building was clean and comfortable, very quiet with a nice rural view. The bar / restaurant was very busy at 6pm on a Friday so I guess it is a popular place. However there was still free seating available both inside and out - there is a pleasant garden area. The receptionist was quick and efficient. Access to Newcastle town centre by car is very easy, just 10 minutes or so, and there was available free parking despite hosting an event that night.
Breakfast service was a bit average. There were no coffee cups, crockery or cereal bowls available at the buffet when I arrived and after a 5 minute wait I had to go and find someone in the kitchen to provide. Another table was also waiting. The poached eggs in Eggs Benedict looked fried to me and were not runny.
Convenient for Beamish visit and Newcastle both within 10 min drive. Good pub food and friendly staff. Room spotless and good bathrooms
Some areas tired but rooms and bar area lovely
Not alot to be fair
Tired rooms not very comfortable bed, bathroom needs updating, food very poor really not good at all !! , sent food back as was cold 1 dish overcooked!!, service was not great either 😕 3
All went well, the food for the evening meal was good and so was breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I prefer a hand held shower head and the shower in the room was overhead. It worked well so no complaint.
Perfect location , great value for money
My only negative is that the bathrooms ( we had 2 rooms ) were grimy/mouldy . The photos obviously show them when they were new .
Breakfast good. Location good, especially the walks from the carpark. Evening meal was excellent and good price. Nice range of beers available . Our room had a bath as well as a shower - wonderful
The bed was hard and uncomfortable. Some seating in the bar was a little tired. Grubby seats and the soft benches were too low for the tables to be able to eat.
