Bowes Incline Hotel

The room was super clean, smelled great, the beds were comfortable and the staff friendly. I was arriving late so the staff made a point in calling me to let me know the time the kitchen would close and ask if I wanted to pre order anything. That was super nice of them to do. It shows just how much they care about their guests and providing great service.

I luckily this wasn’t the case for me, but if ever needing to stay here during a heat wave, be mindful that the back of the hotel is very close to a dual carriageway, so you may have trouble sleeping with the windows open. With them shut it is absolutely silent, great sound isolation.

Food better than expected with excellent restaurant for evening meals. Good location just outside a built up area but felt like you was in the middle of the country. Quality of service excellent.

Carpets and decor in the corrdors need updating, tolilet brush in my room wasnt clean! Needed a little more attention to detail @£100 pn. Shame as this overshadows the good side, plentiful tea & coffee, good shower free wifi. comfortable bed, free parking.

The hotel location, cleanliness, and the breakfast was awesome.

The staff failed to reply to any of the messages on booking.com app and when I arrived at the hotel they informed the room was double booked. They initially tried to refuse us the check in but later on after a lot of convincing they accepted

Second visit to this hotel & it was even better than last year. Spotlessly clean refurbished rooms with very comfortable bed & a great shower. What makes this a great place to stay is the amazing food & the very friendly, accommodating staff. Really enjoyed having a few drinks & chatting to staff in the refurbished beer garden too. Would highly recommend & will definitely visit again.

Nothing at all. There is a bit of traffic noise from the motorway when sitting in the beer garden but it didn't bother us in the slightest.

The breakfast really let the whole stay down. It was undercooked and looked very unappetising even after sending it back to the kitchen it didn’t come back improved. This was a real shame as the food the night before was excellent.

Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Die Essen im Restaurant und die meisten Frühstücksgerichte waren sehr lecker und reichlich. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und ordentlich.

Wir haben uns bei einem Frühstück leider für Porridge entschieden. Dieses blieb leider deutlich hinter unseren Erwartungen zurück, die wir aufgrund der anderen, sehr leckeren (Frühstücks-) Gerichte hatten.

We loved the food as always & my partner was happy as they do a separate gluten free menu & was over the moon with the variet . The atmosphere of the pub was great & the staff were all very kind & went out of their way to help their guests.

Excellent location just off the A1, very quiet as well. Room was well appointed with a comfortable bed. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Unfortunately the breakfast was a bit of a let down. You need to fill out a form the night before if you want a hot breakfast otherwise it's continental only. Said form was duly filled out and delivered to reception only for it to have disappeared the next morning!. So a somewhat hastily prepared full English arrived with dried out egg, rubber sausage, no black pudding and waterlogged mushrooms. A bit of a shame really as it has a lot going for it and will probably visit again.

Can't be changed but worth knowing if you like it quiet...some rooms look onto the beer garden whilst others onto the car park area and walls are thin (eg can hear plug being plugged in). Windows are good so can barely hear the A1.

Staff were very friendly on arrival. We arrived before check in time as we had another appointment we needed to get to, and were given a key anyway and our bags were placed in our room for us. Room was large and very clean with an excellent view (room 17 at the end of the building). Restaurant are was very clean, and they kept the bar open for the England game too! Breakfast was excellent, although I couldn't really do it justice after a heavy day the day before. We will stay at this hotel again - very impressed.

That it was all on one level

The room was clean and comfortable and the wet room was great for our disabilities.

The bed was quire comfortable, although the mattress could do with being turned as I felt as though I was rolling into the middle of the bed. The pillows smelled sweaty - could have been cleaner. The breakfasts weren't great. We had full breakfast first day, but didn't like the sausages or black pudding. The following days, we had eggs on toast, however the toast was brick hard and very very difficult to cut !!! Not ideal.

I didn't like hearing the people in the pub toilets drying their hands on the blowers when I was laid it bed. The sound insulation is really poor. More attention to cleaning as quite alot of cobwebs. Cold water tap is so noisy as it comes out. Don't stay in room 1.

Great location with friendly , helpful staff. Rooms were spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant supplied great variety and high quality food for evening meals. If exploring the North East this is a great base as it is close to A1M for routes north and south.

Really beautiful property, quiet with minor noise from the main road behind it.

Although the property has an accessible room; It does lack accessibility features outside of that in other rooms. We don’t need a fully accessible room; but grab bars on the shower in every room would make a massive difference to people with disabilities that only affect their mobility a little. You can get ones relatively cheaply that would fit the aesthetic and it’s a low cost improvement.

We would recommend and would stay here again.

We needed overnight accommodation after an evening International T20 at Chester le Street, this hotel was very conveniently situated, a short taxi ride away. The full English breakfast was great. The staff were also spot on.

This was appalling! The evening meal! I had hot cheese balls which when you ate them had nothing inside! Secondly my husband ordered meat with leek dumplings. We ordered and waited for service. The food did not appear! Obviously the ‘boss’ apologised but really…….appalling!

The room was lovely and clean and had everything we required. The location was also really nice. We have stayed here before several times but not recently.

I found some of the staff not as friendly and welcoming as in previous visits. Unfortunately we were not made to feel welcome to assisted when asked for information.

Location felt very rural, but only a short drive to the Metro Station taking us into the centre of Newcastle. Restaurant food was outstanding. I had green thai curry and wife had lasagne. Both preshly prepared and declicious. Breakfast was also outstanding and freshly made to order.

The restaurant staff were very young and unattentive. Struggled with order and didn't check id everything was OK. luckily it was.

If we were being really picky we would suggest a sensor light in the bathroom as the fan comes on when the main light is switched on which is quite loud. So a suggestion rather than a criticism.

The staff went above and beyond, extremely polite and helpful keeping the kitchen open so we could eat. The food was amazing (massive portions) and the hotel room itself was clean and comfortable, probably the best shower ive ever had in a hotel aswell. We will 100% be staying again.

The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. We had to leave early so couldn't have breakfast in the hotel however the chef kindly made us bacon butties to take away with us. Location was good for what we needed although a bit out of the way, on site pub was good for those not wanting to go anywhere away from the hotel.

After a disastrous booking elsewhere we booked the Bowes Incline. When we arrived they had a power cut but still made us extremely welcome and even offered free drinks until they could sort out booing us in. All the team were very professional, attentive and welcoming.

Well the kind lady called Sharon on reception was helpful from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left never met met such a helpful friendly lady she actually told us the owner Rebecca and the manager Wayne was as friendly too. All I can say is it’s an awesome place to stay and very friendly clean and the helpings of food in the restaurant are enormous.

It was a surprise and a shock that, since it was Sunday, the kitchen and therefore the restaurant would close at 6pm. Other days it closes at 8pm. Ridiculous timings for a hotel that is located in a difficult to find and isolated place. On this occasion apparently the cook had left and therefore there would not be a cooked breakfast in the morning. A continental breakfast was available instead. It was meagre fayre and the offered £10 refund on the stay was derisory. If I had known these thingsin advance I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere
