La posizione ottima
Non direi 4 🌟 ma appena 3. Troppe mancanze pur avendo segnalato i problemi di luce e tv non funzionante
Clean room. Quiet. View of cathedral. Central location.
The room was comfortable and implacably clean Good food and decent breakfast
The parking difficulty.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Use the back entrance to shortcut to the St Marygate car park, cheap parking for 24 hours.
Decor was a bit tired. Continental breakfast a little disappointing.
Central location
Room was tired and curtains were torn. Bed linen although clean, looked old and grubby. Not overly welcoming
Lovely breakfast, big car park, helpful staff
Room was very hot and the window only opened a few inches. A fan was provided though
Big bed
Good location, comfortable bed
Couldn’t have the window open due to noise from air conditioning unit outside and also chimes every quarter hour from the cathedral!
The property was great, I mean it’s in a pub what is not to like. ☺️ Location was amazing everything on your doorstep, pubs, bars restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy. Everything. Walking distance to everything including local transport.
The only thing was the pillows were uncomfortable for me but that’s not to say others will feel the same. And the mattress was ok but not the best.
Camera spaziosa sopra un bel pub storico. Cena buona e personale disponibile.
Very good breakfast and facilities
Bed not so comfortable
Very central to town
The staff were not particularly friendly on arrival . The room needs a little doing up, especially the bathroom. The tv would only show one channel and the volume couldn’t be turned up or down and could only be switched off at the mains which was very high up the wall !Continental breakfast was poor .
Food, room.
Lack of a car park
Excellent town centre location. Building was quaint and charming. Our requested requirements were met as far as possible. The pub area of the property was very nice. Rooms had all the facilities you would expect.
The lack of a cooked breakfast option. The parking is off site in a public car park behind a super market. My room could possibly be called rustic I would call it dark and dowdy. Welcome was more functional than warm. Also watch out for the toaster at breakfast. It does have a warning notice but not everyone is going to be looking out for that as you don’t expect the surrounds of any toaster To be be so hot that it will burn your fingers with the slightest touch.
Location. Comfy bed
Entrance door from street I had to kick open, and area behind door was cluttered with advertising boards. Doors to room very fast closing. No grab rail in shower, no plug in basin so a lot of water WASTED. Continental breakfast o.k, cooked breakfast very slow in arriving finally arrived 30 mins after order, sausages undercooked, toast was cold and very hard.
Good town centre location. Enjoyed the meal we had at the hotel and the fact thet they were able to seat 10 of us together.
Poor selection of fresh fruit options with the continental breakfast.
Friendly staff and great location.
Nothing!
Very central
Room
No meals in the evening
Location is great for the centre of Ripon and local businesses, room was large and lovely very comfortable bed and provided everything you would need (iron, hairdryer) also in the room, breakfast was nice once it arrived
Only thing that let it down was having to wait 40 minutes for breakfast,
Directly on the 'Way of the Roses' cycle route. Very big bed. Great light fitting in the room. Great location for everything.
A little noisy as the window was kept open due to heat. No cooked breakfast during the week.
Really good location Friendly staff Good food
Baggage drop didn’t feel secure Separation between pub and hotel didn’t feel secure enough
Staff were lovely as we arrived earlier than check in time. No probs - bags stored and "real" check in later. Room was very comfortable with all you need. No AC but a fan was provided and windows could be opened. Food was also lovely for both lunch and breakfast.
Nothing not to like :-)
Location
Continental breakfast only option Too many stairs to rooms
Good location
On the expensive end for the service delivered.
Charming little inn in an equally charming location!
The stairs to the top floor were a bit of a challenge but our cosy and comfortable room made it worthwhile.
In a great spot in the town. Round the corner from the cathedral. Very nice and good value food in the bar. Helpful pleasant staff. Old building but comfortable
Nothing to dislike
Comfortable bed Excellent breakfast
Shower inadequate for old people. No grab rails, no shower stool, no non slip mat, no operating instructions,on/off tap difficult with wet hands
Fabulous location, close to the Cathedral and old town. Characterful hotel. Good beers in the bar.
Was a little bit hot in the room as the window only opened a small way.
Very clean great location.
I did up grade and was therefore expecting a bath , but there’s wasn’t.
Enjoyed out overnight. Lovely view of cathedral The Neckoil was superb as was the Hopical storm Friendly staff
Lovely location, nice room, comfy bed.
Some staff very rude. Kitchen was closed on the first day hotel did not inform me. Paid for breakfast and only got offered a small continental offering.
Location Friendly staff Continental breakfast
Bit scruffy Unfortunately clean laundry was not on the bed on arrival. The mattress was pretty disgusting, I really wish I hadn’t seen it. Later slept on top of all the covers, I couldn’t get the images of the stains out of my head
The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the manager. My room was very clean and was updated. The dining was exceptional. I would heartily recommend the Royal Oak without hesitation.
Very good location close to everything and the bus station. A good cooked breakfast only on a Saturday and Sunday which was very nice.staff were very friendly. Very quite as well.
It needs a referred paint coming off the walls and lots of cracks l know it’s an old building. They could also do with upgrading there pillows. We asked for extra pillows as the ones in our room were very thin but the bed was fine. The room was not cleaned very well. Dirty windows and very hard to open. We did manage to open it in the end and left it open as it was very hot.Dirty carpet not hovered, didn’t remove dirty glasses. Didn’t wipe the sink down or the bath.Breakfast was only basic with sliced bread some meats and cheese a bit of fruit and cereals and danishes which were stale. They could do with a new toaster as well.
From start to finish, it was a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was a last minute booking, so discounted, always a bonus. Staff had thoughtfully closed the curtains and provided a fan to alleviate the high summer temperatures. The room and en-suite were spotlessly clean. The breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Only minor niggle was the orange juice could have been better, but overall, a fantastic stay. Thank you
Location was great, the room was clean and very comfortable. And there was a fan!
The stairs leading to the bedrooms were dingy and the carpet dirty leading me to expect the worst. So I was very pleasantly surprised.
Situation great as right in the centre of Ripon.Surrounded by restaurants. Jalfong is a great Indian Restaurant, take your own wine/bear.Its just across the road. Excellent breakfast. Well served by delightful member of the staff team.
Car parking is in the Sainsbury Car park behind the pub.It isn't free. The charge isn't exorbitant but you are not in a secure car park.
The location is excellent for central Ripon and surrounding area including Fountains Abbey. We had a big bed and our room had views out over the rooftops of Ripon. Staff were friendly and we would stay here again if in the area.
Nothing that a lick of paint in the stairwell wouldn’t sort. There were 2 flights of stairs to our room which was on the top floor and quite warm but once windows were opened it was fine and we slept well. It’s also worth noting that parking is two minutes walk away at the back of Sainsbury’s or adjacent to the Methodist Church at £2.70 for 24 hours.
Very nice and comfortable stay. Great location to explore Ripon and surrounding area.
Good location
Staff were really friendly and helpful
Carpets on stairs look grubby. Bed was bit lumpy
Its pretty much a no frills pub stay with Timothy Taylors on draught, didn't try dinner but breakfast was fine .But note they only serve contintental through the week. The rooms are comfy and quite traditional in keeping with the age of the age of the building. Its located on a very quaint, almost pedestrian street with the cathedral at the end of it a 2 minute walk away
Parking is a pain UNTIL you work out that the car park out the back of Sainsburys is less than a 5 minute walk away by the back alleys which google maps doesn't show. So arrival is not great as you drive around the one way system in circles until you work out this car park is actually very close by. It's £2.90 for 24 hours.
Lovely old hotel in a lovely City.
Our room was up 6 flights of stairs. With us being elderly we found it very tiring. Also Continental breakfast was cramped and chaotic.
Excellent location, friendly staff. Bed was extremely comfy and the shower was modern with great water pressure.
Rooms were quite hot and the sound echoes through the hallways so it's quite loud when other guests are leaving/coming back to their rooms.
Great spacious room, good location within the town, good bicycle storage, decent breakfast.
Great base to explore Ripon. The room was small but clean and comfortable. We stayed Thursday and Friday night so had both the continental and Yorkshire breakfast which were both very good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We stayed on the hottest days of the year so far. As the room was on the top floor it was very hot but a fan was provided which helped a little.
Very central and staff very helpful and friendly. Wonderful breakfast!
Could have been better tea/coffee making facilities in room. A bit short on tea, coffee etc.
I liked Everything except for the stairs and no parking on site. (I didn’t book this and would have chosen somewhere with parking for convenience. It was an exceptionally hot day though - for most people this wouldn’t have been a problem; but for some reason, I was overtired. The location was excellent. Dead centre. Easy and interesting walks. the room was beautiful. I could open wide the windows. Shower etc worked very well. Staff helped with my case and could not have been friendlier, nicer nor more helpful throughout. Excellent coffee at breakfast. Reasonable buffet breakfast.
Stairs and no car parking
Worst breakfast I’ve had in a very long time
Location was great, room was really clean and staff were very friendly.
No cooked breakfast, very disappointing. Bed was very firm and pillows too soft.
The staff were welcoming and obliging. The location was great. We had dinner in the pub and the food was excellent. There was a good choice for continental breakfast.
We stayed on one of the hottest days of the year. A fan in the room would've been a welcome addition.
Excellent location, room was too hot but pleasant and clean enough.
The areat the bottom of the stairs leading to the rooms was a dumping ground for packages and other random clutter, very uninviting. Stair and hall carpets worn and scruffy. Biggest disappointment was, we were expecting a cooked breakfast and were only offered the most pathetic, miniscule continental breakfast we've ever encountered. The fresh fruit was a choice of about 5 old withered apples and an old withered orange. There was a white loaf and a brown loaf in their original bags for everyone to stick their hands in to help themselves, also crumpets in same, which were stale. We were so disgusted with it that we went to the Unicorn Hotel up the road for our breakfast for the remainder of our stay. We really can't understand how this is a 4 star hotel.
Staff were so friendly and accommodating given it was busy for ladies day at the races.. the room was great and fabulous location.
Nothing
Great location, lovely breakfast.
The bathroom in our room wasn’t clean. The room was very stuffy.
The staff The cleanliness The bed & linen The shower room The breakfast
The stairs The room was very hot with no significant ventilation although a fan was provided The size of the room Everything was ‘tired’ looking
Location and room n hotel was all great
Staff,location
To many stairs. Will ask for a room on a lower floor next time
The staff and The atmosfare.
No egg and bacon for breakfast.
The place was central, very friendly helpful staff, very clean and lovely room 😊

Central location Breakfast great Excellent service
Staff, were very good
The fact that full english/Irish was advertised but not available, we were under the illusion that what we paid for was a cooked breakfast. Bed was uncomfortable and very noisy...
The cooked breakfast was particularly good on Sunday, with all locally sourced, high quality ingredients. Really tasty sausages and gluten free too. Staff were really helpful. Evening meal was delicious. The location is awesome, right in the heart of Ripen, just a short walk to the cathedral
Parking is limited, but there is a large carpark nearby that met our needs
Very central to where we wanted to be near.
All fine 4 us.
Location was great, for visiting Ripon and the local town of Masham
Great place with lovely staff. Stylish traditional pub/inn
Location was great, the food was fantastic
The room wasn't cleaned daily, but I think the bathroom should be and you've got to ask for clean towels and toilet rolls, breakfast was contentlle which we didn't know about, only cooked breakfast at weekends.
Position, staff and bar area. Foodcwas excellent and very well priced.
Stairs…….
Large comfortable bed. Good location
Decor very tired, wonky tap. Breakfast limited (second day only white sliced bread, no wholemeal)
The bed was large and comfortable. breakfast was top notch excellent good quality, the staff were very friendly especially the manageress and the front of house lovely people, the location was close to everything . Ripon is a great place to stay. the .entertainment in the hotel was great especially on a Saturday night live bands
nothing to dislike
Nice room at top of buildung.good views. Checked in and guy took our bags to the room whilst we went and parked up. Breakfast was well cookef
Nothing
Extremely helpful staff Room decor Bar
Booking on basis of full ENglish breakfast and this not being available No staff around at 08.00 on first morning, no obvious means of getting a hot drink Toaster not working
The lady who ran the place itself was wonderful! Really nice to speak to and nothing was too much trouble.
NA
Breakfast spot on
The location was great. We arrived earlier than the check-in time, and Allie, the host, was great as we were going to the races. we were able to quickly change in our allocated room. Parking close by at Sainsburys, a large long stay car park and cost for parking fir 24 hours was just £2.90. We would definitely stay at the Royal Oak again. Thank you again, Allie, for being such a great host.
