The excellent service and the fine location

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 6 nights. The positive reviews convinced us to book but it still surpassed our expectations. Everyone at the hotel is lovely Joanna and Madalena are fantastic beautiful souls but for me the star is Angela in the kitchen. Making breakfast a simple delight and her exceptional cake baking a wonder of wonders. I kid you not. The aircon was much needed as we had the most amazing weather The cleaning staff were prompt and our room was lovely. We were in 24 with a glassed balcony. We were not disturbed during our stay. We enjoyed the Port pre going out and sometimes on our return. Such a lovely touch. Everyone we met enjoyed this and the relaxing atmosphere it created. The lift is very welcome after walking Lisbon. It was steeper than we had expected. The location was perfect for Lisbon. Again our expectations were exceeded, it is truly beautiful and the Portuguese people we met friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the nearby miradors for sunsets and wine. Amazing food nearby too. Casa Andaluz has a relaxed atmosphere with great food. Madalana booked a tour by car for Sintra etc and Cascais. We had a great day and a meal at the fantastic Seafood restaurant Nortada the driver booked. We truly spoiled ourselves and it was great to return to Casa do Barao to rest. My son is planning to visit Lisbon and I won’t have him stay anywhere else

The most amazing stay. This place is a slice of heaven. The outside garden is beautiful to relax in, comfy beds, clean rooms and amazing staff. The location is fantastic as well.

One of our favourite hotels we have stayed in, and one we will certainly be back to when we visit Lisbon again. Staff extremely friendly and attentive, always there to answer any questions. Fresh cakes made daily and an excellent continental breakfast. Location is also excellent.

We had such a wonderful stay at Casa do Barão and would absolutely come back. The service was amazing from beginning to end. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and made the hotel feel much more like a home than a traditional hotel. The rooms were very spacious, comfortable, and had air conditioning, which was especially appreciated. One of the things we loved most was the atmosphere. There are always complimentary cakes, coffee, and little treats available, which makes the whole experience feel very warm and personal. It is the kind of place where you actually enjoy spending time at the hotel rather than just using it as somewhere to sleep. The location is also fantastic. You can walk almost everywhere, with great bars, restaurants, shops, monuments, and many of Lisbon’s main attractions all very close by. We genuinely loved our stay and would happily return. I would completely recommend Casa do Barão to anyone visiting Lisbon who wants somewhere comfortable, welcoming, and perfectly located.

Great location, was right in the heart of the action but on a very quiet side street. Delicious breakfast and late night port, coffee, cookies and cake offered for guests. Sweet backyard oasis was great place to sit, very calm and tranquil. Gorgeous building and extremely kind host, Joanna.

Room was beautiful, with cute balcony but was a bit too small, and bathroom tight. Loved the charm of older building but could hear second floor guests walking, best to be on top floor.

Our hosts were wonderful. Very helpful and generous hosts.

The guesthouse is located in a central district of Lisbon with easy access to restaurants, bars, sea front and shops. We loved our room with high ceilings and a view across the back of houses and other gardens. The outside seating with its luxuriant garden by the pool and the indoor library and games room were comfortable, charming and a wonderful places to relax after the bustle and noise of the city. Madalena and Joanna were excellent - always charming and accessible with solutions to problems and lots of advice and information about what to do and where to go.

The shower was not user friendly.

Delightful hotel with thought in every detail. The whole staff went out of their way to take care of our needs. The vibe of the place is quiet and lush. The garden was lovely to hang out in both during breakfast and any other time in the day. This is a perfect little hotel.

Amazing hotel; if only all hotels were this good. Even before we arrived when Booking.com had problems with my payment card, the hotel team were incredibly helpful and reassuring. They kept my booking safe and guided me through an easy alternative payment process. Truly excellent support. On arrival the welcome was warm and genuine. The buffet breakfast in the garden was fabulous, with the delicious freshly baked cakes and coffee/tea available all day. The honesty bar and delicious Port gave a real home from home vibe and the plunge pool (towels provided) was perfect after exploring the city. The location and friendliness was unbeatable. There were some smells of mildew and gray water in the room but we found this to be pretty common among places in Lisbon so not a deal breaker.

It is a very beautiful hotel in an old building with a small garden and a pool. My room had a terrace with a wonderful view of the inner garden, the river and surrounding buildings. The room itself is small, but it was enough for one person. The bed is comfortable. There is an elevator, so no problem taking all the luggage to the upper floors. The location is ideal for exploring Lisbon. They serve continental buffet breakfast right in the garden. The choice of food is rather limited, but everything is delicious. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Since it's an old building, there is a rather unpleasant smell coming from the drains in the bathroom. I knew about it from the previous comments, but it turned out to be worse than expected. I'm not sure if anything can be done with it. However, that's probably the only thing that I didn't like about my stay.

Exceptional experience staying at Casa do Barao! Joana & Madalena were fantastic. From the moment I arrived with too much luggage Madelena was there to greet me to help get sorted. Joana was at the front desk for the majority of my stay and supported with all my needs. From restaurant recommendations, to navigating the city alone, to activities. Her recommendations were top tier! Service like this is rare! The breakfast made by Angela was so yummy and enjoyed daily in the beautiful (and relaxing garden). Location was perfect! Having a little sanctuary to come home to was the BEST! Cannot recommend this hotel enough!

There was nothing i didn't like. Just know it is an older building which has been renovated, so i could hear some noises (maybe construction next door?) But all in all it didn't impact my sleep or relaxation.

Heerlijk ontbijt.

De bidet deed het niet, wat ik jammer vond. Is klein puntje net als dat ligstoelen bij zwembad beetje hard zijn. Dat is ook klein puntje naast zoveel positieve leuke dingen van dit hotel

The staff were amazing, Magdalenia and Ana especially couldnt do anymore. They weere very helpful with bookings, recommendations, but most importantly, they were very welcoming, friendly and warm. Breakdast was fab too - fresh, home cooked cakes every day and great coffee. The hotel decor is wonderful - its like being home from home.

Exceptional hidden gem with many thoughtful touches making it feel like you are a guest not a patron. The proprietors are warm, and welcoming. Joann (Nana) was wonderful and took a lot of extra time to help us with a difficult error we had made.

What’s not to love about this incredible stay in Lisbon? From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. The honor-system bar was such a charming touch, with very reasonable prices for beer and wine, and even Porto available on the house — a wonderful nod to Portuguese hospitality. The back garden and pool area are quaint and peaceful, and the plunge pool is the perfect size for a refreshing dip after a day of exploring Lisbon. But what truly made this stay unforgettable was the staff. They were absolutely incredible — warm, kind, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. A special thank you to Joanna, who went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. Her kindness, helpfulness, and genuine care truly captured the spirit of Portuguese hospitality. I honestly wouldn’t waste time looking for another place if I were returning to Lisbon. I would book this stay again without hesitation. It was a truly wonderful experience, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

A delightful little hotel in a great area - close to shops, cafes and interesting little bars. A sunny courtyard, a pool and charmingly decorated library and sunroom where you could relax over tea, coffee and cake, or port. A delicious variety of options offered from breakfast. The staff were very friendly and very helpful in offering suggestions for restaurants etc. We arrived very late at night after reception had closed, but they had left very clear directions and there was no problem entering and locating our room. Would definitely stay there again.

The bathroom was very small and we would have liked the towels to be changed daily, as needed to take frequent showers in the very hot weather.

The sealent/grouting in the shower would benefit from being replaced.

Man wurde durch Bauarbeiten (Dauerbohren) um 4 Uhr morgens geweckt. Dafür kann das Hotel natürlich weniger.

Heerlijke oase hartje centrum . Zwembad om even te verkoelen. Gastvrije bediening en host met hele dag gratis cake en taartjes , koffie . Goede airco op de kamer en lift aanwezig. Qua locatie echt om de hoek bij de mooiste gezellige wijk van Lissabon . Geen lawaai op de kamer .

My room was comfortable and elegant, the breakfast was delicious, and the location was perfect for exploring Lisbon while still feeling like a quiet retreat. Everything. Shout out to staff - Joana & Madalena at front desk super helpful, knowledgeable, friendly & always willing to help. Also kitchen and cleaning staff keep the place either smelling delicious with baked goodies or your room immaculate clean - Angela, Vika, Marisa & Marina. Our room was very comfortable- bedding was the best. Location is on point it’s just around the corner from Praça Luis de Camões in Bairro Alto area of Lisboa on a quiet street. Continental breakfast was just not your average continental breakfast it was much more with frittata, spread cheese, cold meats, fruit, bread, yoghurt and delicious home baked cakes/biscuits. Also has a plunge pool. We only used one afternoon but has a lovely garden to relax after a long day of sightseeing you don’t feel like you’re sitting in the middle of a busy city. Obrigado Casa do Barao. See you next time.

Mitte Juni konnten wir 8 Tage im schönen und quirligen Lissabon verbringen und hatten für unseren Aufenthalt das perfekte Hotel gefunden: Casa do Barao zentral gelegen mitten im Bairro Alto! Fußläufig sind Bahnhof, Straßenbahn, Fähren und vor allem der Fluss in wenigen Minuten zu erreichen. Einfach alles in dem kleinen Hotel, das in einem Lissaboner Stadthaus aus dem 19. Jahrhundert untergebracht ist, war wunderbar: der schattige Garten, unser klimatisiertes Zimmer mit zwei Balkonen und einem schönen Bad, die äußerst geschmackvolle Einrichtung des für alle Gäste zugänglichen Wohnzimmers und der Bibliothek. Erwähnen möchte ich nur den großartigen Blumenschmuck, die Designermöbel und die Original-Gemälde an den Wänden. An heißen Nachmittagen und am Abend ist der idyllische Garten mit dem kleinen Pool ein angenehmer Rückzugsort. Dazu die kostenlose Bewirtung rund um die Uhr mit Kaffee und täglich selbst gebackenem Kuchen (wir konnten das in der Küche beobachten) und dem abendlichen Glas Portwein. Alles in allem strahlt das ganze Haus eine herzliche Atmosphäre aus, angefangen von der persönlichen Begrüßung bei unserer Ankunft bis zur Organisation eines Taxis am Ende der Reise. Jederzeit würden wir bei einem Aufenthalt in Lissabon dieses Hotel wieder wählen. Hundertprozentige Weiterempfehlung!

The owners are so welcoming and helpful. The hotel is gorgeous. It is like a little oasis in the heart of Lisbon. The pool is great to soak in after a long day of climbing the hills!

No real negatives as this is a really great porperty. Just an FYI if you are traveling with friends and planning on sharing a room. I had requested a room with two beds, but it was two single beds pushed together making essentially one bed. The size of the mattress was not the issue, and the beds were comfortable. But it was basically as if you had to share a bed with the person you are traveling with. If you are a couple this is fine, but would have been nice to have the beds been physically separated.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly. The cakes were amazing and it was in a perfect location. This is our second time here and we just love it.

Breakfast was very good.. the extra little touch where guests were allowed to have coffee available to them was really nice. Madelina was for nice to us on our arrival /she made us feel very welcome and explained everything very well.

We have just had the most wonderful 4 night stay at Casa do Barao. We stayed here based on a recommendation from a friend and I’m so pleased we did. The hotel is really beautiful and in a really convenient location. The staff are all incredible - Joana & Madalena on reception were always super helpful and had some great restaurant/activity recommendations. The chefs are also brilliant - breakfast was great and the afternoon cake was very much appreciated. And what better way to end a day of sightseeing than with a complimentary port in the garden! Would stay here again and will be recommending to anyone coming to Lisbon.

Stunning property in a great location. Breakfast was served until 11am and was delicious, a variety of freshly made cakes were also available each day which was a lovely afternoon snack after a day out exploring.

We loved everything about the property, the only thing to be aware of is this property is in a busy area of Lisbon with a vibrant night life so we often heard people in the street all hours of the night. Not an issue though if you’re a deep sleeper!

Der Empfang war sehr herzlich und persönlich. Insbesondere die Gemeinschaftsräume sind liebevoll und gemütlich gestaltet und eingerichtet. Madalena und Joana haben für uns Restaurantbuchungen erledigt und uns darüber hinaus viele wertvolle Tipps gegeben.

Leider war unser Zimmer sehr hellhörig.

Es war alles perfekt, das gesamte Haus hat einen wunderbaren Charme und die Gastgeber sind aussergewöhnlich herzlich und zuvorkommend.

Super Lage, außerordentlich freundliche Gastgeberinnen, sehr hübsches und gemütliches Ambiente. Das Zimmer war zwar klein, aber wie das gesamte Haus sehr geschmackvoll und liebevoll eingerichtet. Die Dusche war sauber und komfortabel. Das Frühstück hat alles geboten, insbesondere die hausgemachten Kuchen waren jeden Morgen eine schöne Überraschung. Sehr schön war der hübsche Garten, in dem man das Frühstück genießen konnte. Dass man am Abend noch einen kostenlosen Portwein im hübschen Ambiente genießen konnte, war immer ein krönender Abschluss des Tages.

This guesthouse was an oasis in busy Lisbon. The instant you entered the doors, a sense of calm and quiet came over you. Beautiful, lush, landscaped outdoor space. The common areas were many, all tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture, interesting art, books, and best of all, amazing food. The breakfasts were superb and ample, and the afternoon spread -- with 3 or more cakes, port, coffee and tea -- were welcome after a day of sightseeing. The hosts Madalena and Joana were amazing -- attentive, available and full of helpful information. They basically said: make yourselves at home and they meant it. We loved this place and will gladly return.

Our room was on the small side but that's to be expected in a centuries-old building.

Endroit de charme et lieu paisible avec un oasis dépaysant à l’arrière de l’immeuble. Très bon accueil. Thé, café et boissons avec gâteaux maison nous attendent l’après-midi.

Le vieux parquet des chambres grince et les cloisons sont fines mais les voyageurs sont heureusement calmes.
