La Corte dei Pastori was truly unforgettable. The location is simply the best in Matera, with outstanding views across the ancient city. Breakfast was served just outside my bedroom on my private patio, overlooking the city, which was absolutely spectacular. At night, the view was even more breathtaking. My cave bedroom was beautiful, full of character and thoughtfully decorated to complement the history and atmosphere of Matera. The host was amazing, warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful throughout my stay. This was such a special experience and a highlight of my time in Italy. I cannot recommend La Corte dei Pastori highly enough.

Great location. We parked the rental car at the Saragat car park and caught the little red bus into Matera. The hotel is at the last stop so it was very easy to get to and the fare was only €1.50 person. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely and the amount and variety of food served was amazing. The hosts who live on site were very helpful and friendly. Communication was very good. The room was airconditioned which was a bonus in the summer and the WiFi was great.

The location was perfect - easy to walk around Matera and close to great places to eat. The room was very comfy and cool. Breakfast was also good and served by most gracious hosts. Recommending booking taxi (Giovanni No17 Taxi) was welcome as it would have been quite a walk from the Busstop to place on a hot summer's day!

What a marvel! I could not believe how beautiful everything was...The room is big and spotless clean, the view from the terrace is breathtaking....the little garden with a huge fig tree, full of figs you can taste in the mornings, with a great rock as the roof to the house. And the best part is the breakfast. The owners go beyond and above to make the experience wonderful. Loved our stay in this fairytale city. Thank you🙏

Exceptional B&B run by a lovely couple, Domenico & Tiziana. The stunning property is carved into the ancient cave dwellings of the Sassi Di Matrra. The location is absolutely perfect with panoramic views of the beautiful city. We stayed in the Campanile room which featured modern fittings and furniture within a cave. The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable, and what a stunning view from the window! The lovely breakfast was served on the terrace with a backdrop of the neighbouring church, the gorge and the stunning Matera. We really wish we had stayed longer and can highly recommend this B&B anyone wishing for a perfect stay in this magical city.

Just about everything! 😅 Really comfortable room and a fabulous bathroom with colorful lights cut into the cliff. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The owners were attentive and kind.

Wow, wow… what a view from the terrace, what a romantic view from the cave room window. And such lovely staff, welcoming, helpful, joyous. Breakfast was a feast. Room was so comfortable and quiet. Perfect location to explore the city (it’s all up hill) and get to the bus service to parking garage.

Trying to find something is hard… maybe that the electrical plug is at the side of the bed and so the path is narrowed… did I try hard enough to find something???

Spacious comfortable accommodation in an amazing location with stunning views of the Sassi. We parked in Via Saraget parking and got the shuttle bus to the accommodation. Domenico kindly met us at the bus stop and helped take our luggage to our room. We had drinks on our terrace on arrival and couldn't believe our luck to have found such a special place. Breakfast on the terrace each morning was delicious and substantial. If you're visiting Matera stay here!

Il posto è meraviglioso, posizione ottima (basta guardare le foto )ma tutto ottimo. Accoglienza, gentilezza, colazione top con tutte cose fresche (dolci e salate). Noi eravamo nella panorama, la sera si accende il presepe vivente e diventa ancora più incantevole. Interni curati nei dettagli, esperienza super positiva. Quando torneremo a Matera sicuro abbiamo già il posto giusto. Letto comodissimo!

We had the most beautiful stay at La Corte Dei Pastori, the location was perfect right near the bus stop. The hosts were so helpful and made us feel right at home. We couldn't recommend it more.

Dificuldade de acesso. Os propósitos precisam ser mais precisos no momento de informar como chegar. Passando um ponto de referência fica mais fácil pois o acesso é complicado pra quem não conhece o local.

Our hosts Domenico and his wife Tiziana were just amazing. So helpful, accommodating and generous. The location of the property was 10 out of 10. The room itself was a beautiful haven to return to after exploring Matera.

Our stay here was wonderful. Our hosts were amazing. Our GPS bombed and after walking with our luggage up and own stairs for 40 minutes we were lost and exhausted (we are in our 70s. I called the hotel and our smiling rescuer arrived within minutes. We were served a wonderful breakfast in the morning with a great view of the Sassi. It was close to everything. Who though sleeping in a cave would be such a delightful exoerience

The Panorama Suite was comfortable, quiet, and had incredible views of Matera from the terrace. Seeing our room carved into rock, sitting below and between churches carved into the same rock formation was incredible to see. It is also very close to everything in Sasso area of Matera and easy to get to using the Linea Sasso shuttle bus from Via Saraget parking.

Nothing. Of the 8 hotels we stayed at over our 3 weeks in Europe, this B&B was hands down most unique, comfortable and convenient.

A beautiful property in a gorgeous Sassi location. Our cave room was lovely, bright, clean and well equipped. The [comfort zone] products in the bath made the stay Spa Like. We had a delightful view from our room and the property gardens encouraged you to sit and contemplate the uniqueness that is Matera. Breakfast was served either in a cave, in tables in the gardens or at a table right by our door, weather permitting, and it was complete with all you could desire and excellent coffee. Everything was perfect!

La Corte dei Pastori is the only place to stay in Matera. Our room was amazing - a true cave room under the rupestrian church of Santa Maria de Idris. The location is stunning - breakfast overlooking the Sassi, and at night it's even better. The Giordano family are the most welcoming and friendly hosts, the included breakfasts were huge and delicious, and if you drive to Matera, the Linea Sassi bus stop is right at the door (only a 10min ride to the parking station - beats walking back up the hill!).

Truly can't fault this place. Just perfect in every way.

Geweldige locatie, midden in het historisch centrum. Hele goede gastheren. Het ontbijt was uitgebreid en werd geserveerd op ons terras met uitzicht op de oude stad.

Het ontbijt werd geserveerd tussen 8.30u en 9.45u. Aangezien onze kinderen al erg vroeg wakker waren, was het fijn geweest als het ontbijt al wat eerder kon. Maar we hebben heerlijk een kop thee gedronken met uitzicht.

Tout était parfait ! L’accueil de nos hôtes qui nous ont gentiment attendus jusque 21:30… L’emplacement est idéal avec une vue extraordinaire. Le petit déjeuner est très complet. La chambre était très spacieuse et très propre. Toutes les instructions concernant le parking hors des Sassis est vraiment très approprié. Je recommande !

Perfect location with the most stunning view! It was a spacious room with little table on the terrace with a great breakfast spread just making it the most delightful morning. Everyone was super nice too. They were waiting for us outside when we arrived and offered to store our luggage upon check out. We parked at the garage where we could walk in. You can cut through the stairs but I would only suggest that going there/down! Take the main road back to your car.

Our host, Domico, is so hospitable. We informed that we will be arriving around 6pm but due to some delay in the car hire, we arrived around 6.45pm. While walking towards the direction of the apartment we were surprised to be greeted by Domico who has been looking out for us and helped us with our luggage. That gesture is already a 5 star treatment and very welcoming. The apartment which is situated in the cave part of Matera,has a good view of the old town and can be reached quite easily by taking the local Sassi bus from the public car park at the outskirt of the town. The bus run every 30 minutes and the apartment is at the last stop of the route. The old town has traffic restriction. You have to be mindful of luggages cause there are stairs to climb which is expected in the old town of Matera but let the owner knows earlier and I am sure he will help you with it. In any event it is not too much to reach the apartment cause it is just like 30 steps, I think, from the ground level. Alternatively we were informed by other guest that they left their big bags in the car and bring a small bag for their stay in Matera. This we did not do and only if you are comfortable with leaving your luggage in the car parked in a public car park. We had a typical Italian breakfast which start us for the day at the reception area inside a cosy cave and served by Domico's wife, how personal can you get. If you are deciding where to stay, just book and you will not be disappointed.

Great family owned hotel. Great family who go out of their way for guests. The rooms really are in a cave with a posh view. Fantastic location at the end of the road in the sassi.

Don't use Google Maps to get there. Unless you want to walk the city prior to your arrival. It cannot navigate the the walking paths. Get specific directions from the owner on the route from parking to the hotel.
