We enjoyed a 3 night stay - from the welcome on arrival until the day we left, it was an unforgettable & magical experience. The lodge is small, which makes the service very personal. The rooms are beautifully furnished, elegant, luxurious, and spacious, featuring a deck to enjoy the outside space. The lodge has a pool and a games room for entertainment. It is set in a remote location with no cell phone reception; however, you have free Wi-Fi to use, which worked great for us, located in the furthest room. The game drives were amazing, two per day, we managed to see 4 of the Big 5 very close up, plus other animals. The experience was a true bush/safari experience! Thank you to Nugent & Terence for their impeccable service!
Only Adults, top Ausstattung in bester Qualität.
'Mmmm
The lodge and accommodation are superb - wonderful decor …. stunning and very luxurious.
We had not realised that having left Montagu the drive to Mont Eco Reserve would take one hour - at points on really challenging road surface more suited to a 4x4 than regular car hire. Half an hour of the journey is within the Reserve itself and we found it stressful and feared a puncture. We feel cars should be left at the gate with a shuttle to the reserve.
This is a wonderful 5-star hotel set in an amazing natural environment. The wildlife around the property and the game drives are truly special and adds a unique, memorable dimension to the stay. The property itself is very well designed. Huge thanks to the staff, who were consistently warm, attentive, and professional throughout our stay!
The journey to the hotel was not well communicated! From a five-star hotel, I would expect to receive all the information we needed, but we didn’t. The road to the hotel is pretty rough (an hour before arriving). An SUV would have been more comfortable and faster. The food has clear room for improvement—particularly at breakfast. While everything was cooked well and presented nicely, the selection was surprisingly limited, eg only toast bread available as bread option. For a hotel of this category, a wider variety options would be expected. This wasn’t an issue worth raising with the staff, as the execution itself was good, but it’s more a point for management to consider in order to elevate the overall dining experience.
Lodge setting.
Game bit sparse.
Very kindly staff at all. Thank you very much
Everything! A magical experience in remote location. The lodge was amazingly beautifully furnished and very large with its own balcony. The main building is stunning with little pool etc. our game driver TK was so informative with a great sense of humour driving over rough rocky terrain determined to track down the animals. A truly beautiful place in the Klein Karoo breathtaking being so close to lions, buffalo, white rhino, giraffes, kudu, springbok etc. stopping for a glass of wine in the evening or coffee early morning in the bush!
To reach such a remote and enchanting destination you have to drive along rough tracks - 30km from R62 which takes around an hour of you drive cautiously.

Great location - nice drive from Cape Town - the most fantastic staff .
Nothing to complain or moan about - a fabulous experience
Outstanding level of comfort and service! The team is totally dedicated to customer satisfaction and provides a superior experience. Excellent rooms, food and game drives.
Great opportunity to get close to the big 5 animals in their natural environment with minimal disruption, great respect to nature. Very friendly friendly staff and safari trips with our T.K. guide were superb. Thank you @T.K !
All good, just be aware that the access road is a bit bumpy
Amazing location with access to see the big five. The rooms were out of this world and the pool and dining area decorated to a very high level. The staff were so warm and welcoming. We were lucky enough to see lions, elephants, buffalo’s, rhinos, ostriches, springbok, giraffes and more!
It was as close to perfect as you could get but the food could maybe have been a little better but I’m being uber picky.

Outstanding lodge. Absolutely beautiful with no expense spared to detail. Like a 5⭐️+, the room was really that nice. Friendly staff, good tour guides and nice food.
The assumption of premium drinks, wine at cost over the house wine included, which we realised at the end of the meal. The same with bottled water. The option at the beginning would have been nice. Generally the food was very good, one meal was a little hit and miss but overall nice. An hours drive off road to get here, make sure you have a car with good ground clearance, it’s bumpy and rocky.

We were right to book this establishment. The location is incredible, in the middle of nature with exceptional scenery. Our guide TK was incredible, so professional, kind and funny, we'll remember these great excursions for the rest of our lives. He knows nature and animals inside out. The staff is absolutely adorable and very professional, thank you Shaun , Kudsai, emily, we will never forget you, you are fantastic. I really want to congratulate the owner for having the audacity to develop this establishment and hope he is aware that without these lovely staff the experience would not have been the same so I hope he takes good care of them. I'm an entrepreneur in France and know how difficult it is to get qualified and competent staff.
Friendly staff Beautiful area in the Karoo Excellent service
Nothing
Wonderful place with a great mission. Passionate and kind team who go out of their way at every step to make your stay enjoyable and meaningful. The accommodation is very comfortable. The food is excellent. The game drives are thoughtful and eye-opening. This is a beautiful place to experience the incredible nature of Africa and the wildlife for which is it so rightly famous. Special thanks to Manager Pauline for her great energy and kindness. To Nugent who leads the service team with charm and humour. And to Terrence who is uniquely witty, entertaining and informative as he takes you on the incredible game drives.
Room was beautiful. During the night, I recommend you to Light one of the bedside lamps to collect all the flies inside room that you think there are none of them but they are many many. Staff was kind, especially Nugent was very very welcoming and friendly. He is the gem of the Lodge.
Visiting a safari tends to be more ethical than supporting zoos and circuses that over-breed and abuse wildlife for entertainment, but here in a private reserve, during the safaris we felt like a being in an organic zoo and everything was like a fiction. We saw the Lions, Elphants, Giraffes,Rhinos; it is remarkable to see them but we were like in a huge private backyard of someone. Visiting a National Park is a totally different exprience. There is no phone line.. since you enter the bush area like 30 km before the Lodge, there is no more phone line..if you are from another country and you have your family, your children far away, and you are not able to call them, its realy disturbing. Wifi is very good in the lobby /restaurant area but once you go the room, its very weak..if you conncect more than one device, it gets even worse. If you do online business it is impossible to work in the room. Water of the pool was so turbid. If you think its the only attraction to do during the day,its was very disappointment. Our transfer on the way back was delayed for more than 2 hours, and we had to wait at the reception area. We had an extra lunch.. it was nothing, only 2 salads, but it was not nice that they asked us to pay for it. We used to have a bush walk, even we asked to schedule it, but never happened..
We had the pleasure of staying here for our honeymoon and my birthday, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome by the lovely Pauline and her team, setting the tone for a magical stay. Our lodge was stunning—better than we could have ever hoped for—and the food was excellent. The staff were incredibly friendly and always went above and beyond to assist us, with a special mention to Nugent, who made our stay even more special. Because of the intimate nature of the reserve, we also had the opportunity to connect with other guests, which added to the overall experience. The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the game drives. During our three-night stay, we participated in five drives, with the morning ones proving particularly rewarding. Our ranger, the wonderful TK, not only kept us safe but also enriched our experience with his deep knowledge of the wildlife. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our honeymoon and birthday celebration so memorable. We would love to return in a few years and relive the magic!
We had a wonderful stay at the reserve, and the staff were fantastic! Just a note for future guests—if you're driving yourself, we highly recommend renting or bringing an SUV. The gravel roads can be quite rough, and our small Hyundai i10 really struggled, making the drive much longer than expected. Meanwhile, cars with better suspension handled the terrain with ease and passed us effortlessly. An SUV will make your journey much smoother!
Our stay at Mont Eco Game Reserve was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and well taken care of. A special thanks to Pauline, Terrence, and Nugent, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a truly memorable experience. Their warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail made all the difference. The game drives were absolutely extraordinary. We were fortunate to see a wide range of wildlife, and our guide, Terrence, was fantastic at explaining the surroundings and making sure we didn’t miss a thing. His knowledge and enthusiasm added so much value to the experience, making every drive an adventure of its own. The accommodation was equally impressive. The house we stayed in was cozy, clean, and well-maintained, providing a perfect retreat after long days of exploring the reserve. It was evident that the staff put in extra effort to create a welcoming and comfortable environment. Overall, Mont Eco Game Reserve exceeded all expectations. If you’re looking for an authentic and breathtaking safari experience near Cape Town, this is the place to go. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to return!
The staff is very friendly and efficient. The chalets are tastefully designed and fitted.
The "Eco" part is tricky: The "Air conditioning" is rationed. There is no remote control in the room and the staff is tasked with switching Aircon on around dinner, and turning it off when the beds get turned down. The assumption is, that this should cool the rooms down sufficiently. We had over 36 degrees heat all day, and could not sleep due to the heat in the room at night. Whilst we did mention it; we were told it was due to the "Solar" that could not handle the high load. The meals were rather average: eg. 2 leaves of Rocket to accompany the Tagliata at lunch, and we were served the wrong dinner despite having made the choices at lunch. The Reserve itself feeds the animals which are "countable", and the lions are in a separate area. Perhaps this should be assumed when entering the Karoo, but the claims to be "Big 5" raise expectations that definitely cannot be met.
Food are very good. Service are good. Game drive excellent.
It was an amazing experience with a super friendly staff.
Mont Eco is an exceptional destination for encountering the Big Five in a setting that feels authentic and eco-conscious. Their commitment to sustainability is a refreshing change in the increasingly crowded safari market. The lodge itself is small and intimate, offering only seven rooms, which makes the experience cosy, personal, and exclusive. Despite the reserve being a modest 65 km², it feels endless. Even on busy days, there are only two jeeps out at a time, ensuring you won’t encounter other visitors—just your group and the incredible wildlife. The staff truly elevate the experience. Given the small size of the lodge, you have the chance to interact with them on a more personal level, creating connections that go beyond the typical hospitality dynamic. Their friendliness and attentiveness made our stay feel even more special. The rooms are a standout feature—spacious, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully designed. Each bathroom is practically its own suite, with three separate areas that combine luxury and functionality. The Booking.com photos honestly don’t do these rooms justice; they are far more impressive in person and add a real sense of indulgence to the stay.
A small area for improvement The only aspect we felt could be improved is the restaurant. While the setting and service are lovely, the menu and overall dining experience need to be rethought to match the high standard of the rest of the lodge.
Great location, beautiful lodge, accommodation and excellent staff in the lodge.
The property is relatively new (18 months old) and the Manageress and staff , while doing their best to cater for an international clientele, need more time to bed in . The same for the Rangers, who know their subjects but need to be more communicative on what they are showing.
Beautiful location. Really lovely and spacious cottages. Very romantic with fireplace and bathtub alcove. Our room was 5 stars. From the upper deck you could see so whole constellations!
Price was very high, we felt, having stayed at many similar reserves/lodges. Food was plentiful and nicely arranged but just average.
Everything was superb, the comfort and luxury of each lodge, outstanding food exceptional friendly staff. Charles who took us out on the game drives was exceptionally knowledgeable about the animals as well as the flora and fauna., and we had closer viewings of 4 of the big 4. We only missed seeing a leopard. This was a stay that will leave a lifetime of memories.
Nothing the only recommendation l would give to future visitors is to use an SUV vehicle. You are far into the Karoo on rough gravel roads. The Mont Eco team were very kind and helped us on the difficult roadway.
Extraordinary personal approach and high level service. Nicely equipped lodges, ideal for honeymoon, surreal sky full of starts at night. The resort is completely off grid powered by solar panels.
No A/C control provided, was turned on centrally at certain times only, sometimes when not needed. The manager was, however, helpful to adjust it a little upon us raising a concern.
staff is extremely friendly and helpful. safari was amazing. rooms are spacious and very well equipped.
Everything was quite outstanding. They received us with drums! The personalized care. Is the first time I felt like home. I would recommend this place 1000000 times. Definitely coming back. Thanks for making this so special.
We had a magical stay here! The room was probably the most beautiful hotel room we’ve ever been in - the attention to detail was incredible and it’s obvious that no expense has been spared even down to the mattress and the bedding. The lodge is spectacular with beautiful fires, candles and sofas and an amazing game room. The game drives were incredible - we saw so much and loved the hot water bottles and the breaks for drinks in the most beautiful locations. The food was delicious and so beautifully presented with wildflower table settings at each meal. The best thing was the service and the people - Pauline, Nugent, Innocent, Charles , Terrence, Mischa (and everyone else , so sorry we didn’t get your names) - you made our stay absolutely magical. The passion all of you have for what you do is incredible and we were genuinely so sad to leave! We can’t wait to return!
Nothing - it was perfect.
Attention to detail rooms outstanding large and all amenities . The food is great and the service is really good
Nothing
The location, and overall aesthetic design, were excellent. The game rangers were extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and professional. The chef produced some excellent food, however, he also, unfortunately, produced a couple of really poorly executed dishes.
This is not a 5* lodge. The suites are extremely cold in winter, in fact unbearable! There is no effective insulation. While the fireplace can warm the main bedroom when there is sufficient wood (there was not enough wood, despite repeatedly requesting more, making the mornings terrible), the bathrooms are unbearable all the time and there is no method or option to heat the bathrooms. The service and offerings were well below standard for a lodge that is advertised as luxurious and priced accordingly. We had to handle our own luggage, (arrival and departure), i.e. on one of the days we were requested to arrive for lunch at 13h00 (which we promptly did), a table was set outside on the patio, and yet there was zero staff to be found until 13h25. This was after the 3rd time walking around the lodge to find someone to assist us. The lunch menu included coffee, yet when we ordered it, we were told the coffee machine was off and it would take 20 minutes to warm up. Prior to arrival, we were requested to advise our drink choices, we indicated orange juice for breakfast, but, there was only apple juice. The snacks (only rusks on the morning drive and biltong on the afternoon drive) plus drinks, were very poorly executed. There is no TV or Bluetooth speaker in the suite, and since there is no aircon, there is no white noise, this makes the atmosphere in the room very dull and boring. While we can appreciate that this is a wildlife lodge, in winter there is nothing to do between the 2 x daily game drives and meals. While the lodge is promoted as an all-inclusive resort, we were presented with a single lumpsum beverages bill, considering we only drank the house wine and 2 coke zero and there was no alcohol or beverage price list. I found it unprofessional to present an unitemized bill. While I know the lodge opened to paying guests in April this year, this lodge is seriously lacking in professional management and trained staff.
The breakfast was great..the gamedrives was awesome and learn and see so much although it was raining.
The dirt road back was very wet and muddy.. with a smal car we have to drive very slowly..
