THE FOREST AKAN Tsuruga Resort

We stayed on a half-board basis; the breakfast and dinner spreads were diverse and delicious. Our room offered a view of Lake Akan, and the entrance to KAMUY LUMINA was right outside; the sightseeing boats also docked at the nearby pier, making it incredibly convenient. Staying here also gave us access to the open-air hot spring at the sister hotel—an amazing experience. I highly recommend making a visit to the sister hotel's hot spring a top priority during your stay ♨️.

We stayed in a Japanese-style room; the facilities were a bit dated, so it would be better if they were slightly renovated.

The place is really charming and cozy. Excellent location for those who want to hike in the nearby national park. Very pleasant staff and excellent service. The room is just like in the pictures and even more beautiful. We had an amazing view of the lake! There are great breakfasts and dinners. Absolutely great place, highly recommend and we will come back again!

화장실 지린내가 너무많이나서 방을 교체해달라고 로비에 말했어요. “다른직원을 보내 확인하겠다” 는 간단한말을 , 번역기를 돌리며 번역기가 안된다벼 폰을 치며 , 소통을 제대로 안하더군요. 저 말이 번역기가 필요한가요? 아마 제 요구가 귀찮아서 간접적으로 표현한거같아요. 결국 다른직원과 함께 방에 올라가, 화장실에 약품을 뿌렸는데...... 그런 청소는 진작에 해야 하는거 아닌가요? 교체해준 다른방은 냄새가 나지 않아 좋았어요. 음식도 맛있구요. 다만, 그런 방을 판매하는것과, 그 직원의 응대는 개선이 필요해 보입니다.

Some staff could not speak English and could not use the translation device at front desk. Thus, misunderstood my inquiry and I finally missed Kamuy Lumina, which is the most expected show in my trip!!! I was so disappointed!!!!!

Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Die Lobby und die angeschlossene Bar waren aich toll.. Leider hatten wir ein Zimmer im japanischen Stil, das sehr stark in die Jahre gekommen ist und eher unterer Standard im.Vergleich mit dem.sonst sehr gutem Haus. Den Preis dafür fand ich zu teuer. Das Zimmer war groß genug für 3 Personen.

Die Badezimmer und generell das Zimmer im japanischen Stil ist leider aus den 70igern und nicht renoviert.

La vue depuis la chambre sur le lac est superbe, les parties communes de l’hôtel sont très belles. Les lits sont confortables et le personnel de l’accueil très bien.

Rapport qualité prix mauvais, la basse qualité de certains produits servis au petit déjeuner. Notre chambre n’était pas très propre (traces dans la salle de bain et sur les murs, poussières sur les lampes et derrière les lits, climatisation encrassée…), nos serviettes n’ont pas été remplacées alors que nous l’avions demandé. Le personnel du petit déjeuner pas très accueillant. Certaines parties communes de l’hôtel ne sont pas accessibles entre midi et 15h. Nous avons fait d’autres hôtels et ryokans durant notre voyage a Hokkaido, celui-ci était le plus cher et de loin le moins qualitatif.

We had a Lakeview room and the view was great, the AC was cold. That was good.

The washroom is old and dirty. We got breakfast and dinner included for three nights, but did not know it was gonna be the same menu every day. I don’t know how clean the tatami is, I’m not sure if the staff cleaned the whole thing through, as other cultures may not be so clean with it, and they put their suitcases on it.

We enjoyed the location, lovely view from the room and food options were good.

The rooms are tired and need a refurbishment. The onsen is also dated and needs a refurbishment

El restaurante del hotel, donde dan las cenas y desayunos, funciona genial, tiene mucha variedad y está todo riquísimo! Las vistas de las habitaciones que dan al lago son preciosas y las habitaciones son amplias y muy bonitas y cómodas.

El único punto a mejorar en nuestra experiencia es que el personal del hotel no fue capaz de ayudarnos a reservar un taxi. Es un tipo de servicio que en muchos hoteles occidentales es básico y puedes confiar en el personal para que te ayude en eso, pero en Japón cuesta más, y en este caso nos sorprendió su nula capacidad para ayudarnos. También diría que el onsen del hotel es bastante sencillo, pero puedes ir al onsen del Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga (que es espectacular), y el hotel te pone un bus lanzadera para ir.

An exceptional hotel. The location was wonderful: we had a car, and free car parking was about 100m down the street, directed by two very sweet Japanese gentlemen. We had a lakefront room- so a wonderful view. The room was enormous for 2adults, with lovely modern shower, hand basin area and toilet (there was also an Onsen avail on site). We had a mini fridge, kettle (with coffee/green tea sachets), and also a microwave. Air con was great. The service from all staff (car parking, reception, bar and restaurant) was friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely drink in the lounge area on the ground floor (1st floor), by reception, which we used our free ¥1000 voucher toward. There was also free iced lemon water, and coffee machine in lounge area. The breakfasts had an extensive variety of dishes: Asian, western as well as health smoothies. We also ate the buffet one night, which was one of the best buffets. Hot/cold dishes as well as a variety of sweets/desserts (including soft serve machine) and cheese/crackers

The lobby was beautiful, it was so unique and cozy. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. View from the room was fantastic! The food variety for both dinner and breakfast was vast and delicious. We would love to stay there again! Also it was situated just opposite the starting point of the Kamoy Lumina.

We were a family of 4 so we had the traditional style tatami room where the toilet was really small and cramped. My parents stayed at the newly renovated room and it was spacious, modern and had a microwave!

Did not use the onsen. Dinner and breakfast were OK. The location was good for our purpose. But the staff were excellent!

The toilet room was too small! The Japanese-style room was ok but I was surprised we had to make our own futon bed. The toilet in this room had a funny order.

They offer using their other hotels apa. The local one is OK but I recommend trying the othere two options they kindly offer for free.

We had a lovely view of the lake from our window. The room was comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. There was a variety of food for the dinner and breakfast buffet. Something for everyone and it was prepared and presented with care. Staff spoke a little English which was helpful since we don’t know much Japanese.

The Forest Akan is a well located hotel right beside the lake. The staff were welcoming and the room was comfortable with a lovely view of the lake and mountains. The thing that made this hotel completely memorable was the buffet dinner and breakfast. Nothing could prepare you for the vast array of delicious high quality food ranging from Japanese to western food. They even included locally sourced ingredients in some of the dishes. In all my travels I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Conveniently located within walking distance of the Tourist Information Center, Visitor Center, Akanko Bus Center, and several restaurants. The reception staff were exceptionally courteous and helpful. Our spacious room featured comfortable beds and a beautiful view of the lake. Breakfast was excellent, with a dedicated counter offering five choices of fresh fruit blends and smoothies. Dinner was equally impressive, with a sumptuous selection of well-prepared dishes.

The service and hospitality were excellent—everything felt welcoming and attentive throughout my stay. I also really enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner; they were both immaculate, with a consistently high standard. It was a lovely bonus to be able to use the sister onsen at the larger Tsuruga hotel, which was even nicer. I appreciated the free coffee as well, especially for a relaxed start to the day. Finally, the library was a highlight for me: good books in a calm, pleasant environment.

The only complaint was that, despite the lovely lake view, the Japanese-style futon room felt old and dated and had a mouldy smell.

The hotel lobby and restaurant area are great and well maintained by the staff at The Forest. The breakfast selection was good enabling guests to have a variety of options for breakfast.

Whilst it has been commented in previous reviews, the Japanese style lake view room we stayed in was dated in comparison to the rest of the hotel. Although this is normal for hotels with this style of room, the price for the style of room was higher than others in the area.

We had their dinner and breakfast meals, which were fantastic! The room was comfortable and the location to our activities was excellent. The staff was very helpful and polite. We enjoyed our stay very much!

None. It's an older hotel, but we have view of the lake from the top floor, which was beautiful! The room was quiet and we had no trouble falling asleep or staying asleep either.

We love our stay at the Forest Akan. Location is fantastic. We stayed at room facing the lake. Buffet dinner was very good. Breakfast is good as well. We especially love the onsen from its other hotel. The hotel provides a shuttle service every 20 mins interval to the other hotel where its onsen was spectacular.

部屋の洗面所の床がカビと汚れがあり、臭かった。 窓際の壁紙がブヨブヨになり、ひどくめくれていて、ひどい状態。 食事の時ピザのカードがあり注文ができるシステムだったが、頼んだものと違うピザが来たし、数量も違った。

Clearly the restaurant was biased to non Japanese guest. We had 4 meals at the restaurant, each time we came in there were at least 3 window tables available and we were not given one. The last morning they assigned us a table in the back room. That was just too much so we asked for a window table and were given one. But each time we went it I felt like we were treated like second class citizens. I'm sure we paid the same rate for our room and we decided to stay at the hotel because during a day trip last year we walk through and found it to be beautiful.

建物全体の雰囲気がとても良く、部屋以外でもゆったりくつろげるスペースがあったのが嬉しかったです。 フリードリンクコーナーもありがたく、レモン水は絶品でした。同じ系列のホテル間での送迎バスがあったのも便利でした。 スタッフのご対応も素晴らしかったと思います。

フロント横のバーを滞在中に利用してみたいと思っていましたが、タイミングが合わずに利用できませんでした。 始まる時間が遅くても良いので、23時ぐらいまで利用できると一杯飲めたかもしれません。良い雰囲気のバーでした。

飯店公共區域大又漂亮，房間也非常舒服，地理位置也不錯，走路就到湖旁邊了。大廳有長外套可以借（很保暖），房間的浴衣也很好看，跟附近的雅鶴飯店有配合，可以去那邊泡湯（雅鶴的泡湯是我泡過最浮誇厲害的浴場！） 早餐自助式還不錯吃。

晚餐的菜色感覺可以再調整一下，品項普通。

Pretty place, care given to the facility. Air was nice. The building was well suited to just spend all the time there. Placement by the lake is nice. Check in is easy when prepaid. Gift shop is cute. The 5 minute every night firework show is enjoyable. Staff is the best and gracious. They do what they can for the area and are the most helpful. English isnt easy here but the staff was most accommodating. Helped arrange even an emergency situation with calm and care.

Onsen is heavily harassed. If it says 12pm closed expected to be out by 11pm. With staff reminding you to leave as your washing and have til what is said 12pm closure. Sorry but it was loud with so many tourists. We found the day to be empty and night to be even more empty. Nothing is really open or it's a very limited and rush feel. The winter is not a good time to visit. Ice slush sleet snow, things say they are open but in fact are not. Nothing to eat besides hotel accommodations or limited to 6pm dinners. Thankfully convenience stores go all hours... Store fronts have hours online, but never work out. It was a bad time to go to a place that said open and then wasn't. For 3 days. Gave a coupon for a bakery that wasn't open til our last day. Why say open but not? So much expense for such a little experience. We regret Lake Akan in the winter. Very touristy.

The lobby / lounge is probably the only good thing within the facility. The view to lake Akan is great, but you can get this from other hotels nearby at cheaper cost. The breakfast and dinner are not bad but coming from Kiki Shiretoko Resort, this was a massive let down. The only thing we love above their restaurant is the rice dispenser and the female staffs. The female staffs are awesome. The male staffs need a lot of improvement especially the ones at the front. The room requires change. You can smell something hasn’t quite dried up from the carpet. You can smell dust which made me sick. The decor is very dated. The bathroom is so tiny. The pyjamas is the worst in the 5 accommodations we’ve been on this trip. It’s made of cheap poly material.

There is a lot not to like about this hotel. The hallway is smelly. They seriously need to remove the carpet. See comments above. I would not recommend this to anyone.
