La casa era preciosa, con mucho encanto y bien situada. Lo mejor del alojamiento es su gerente, Percy, un hombre encantador y muy educado que nos hizo sentir como en casa.

Het was vrij koud in de kamer maar het was natuurlijk ook winter en we hadden lekker warme dekens in bed.

Een ideale start voor de eerste nacht in Zuid-Afrika. Na de landing in Johannesburg met een hartelijke ontvangst door Percy in een prachtige huis.

Even though it is close to the airport, the area a couple of blocks from the house in almost every direction felt unsafe. When we went to other neighborhoods in Joburg to eat, it didn’t feel the same.

Everything Percy was a fantastic host the view was amazing it was very clean and safe. Breakfast was amazing.

Only one thing the mattress was a bit uncomfortable.

We hebben hier twee heerlijke nachten gehad. Het voelt heel veilig achter de gele deuren. De prachtig ingerichte art-deco villa is met veel smaak en toewijding ingericht. Percy, de manager, is ontzettend aardig, gastvrij en aandachtig – je voelt je meteen welkom. De overheerlijke ontbijten met versgeperste jus d’orange en echte croissants waren een feestje. Alles is super makkelijk en betaalbaar bereikbaar met Uber, wat het verblijf extra comfortabel maakt. We maakten ook kennis met Hélène en Xavier, de Franse eigenaren – super vriendelijk en heel leuk om mee te praten in Hélène’s studio in Victoria Yards, waar ze prachtige ontwerpen maakt.

Hôte extrêmement accueillant et chaleureux. Il était vraiment aux petits soins. Chambre décorée avec goût et très propre. Petit déjeuner excellent.

Behind the yellow gates, lies an oasis in the heart of the city. The welcome was superb (thanks to Percy), the place is immaculate and feels very in keeping with the name. The rooms are spacious, modern (though look in keeping with the period), comfortable and clean. Had a wonderful breakfast.

Great location, close enough to the airport and a shopping mall nearby. Percy is an amazing host and made our stay the best start of our Honeymoon. The breakfast was really good as well!

Fish bird is a beautiful 100 year old house, which has been beautifully restored. It is incredibly clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is great as well!

A great charming converted house with lovely garden overlooking Johannesburg and when the weather is warm enough, the pool is an added bonus! Fantastic communal fully equipped kitchen. Great service by Percy, the Mgr!

Everything was great, wish we had longer time. Maybe the room could do with an electric heater in the heart of the winter, but this is something that guests staying longer could probably request as the service was really brilliant.

First of all a big thank you to Percy who runs the place. He made a big difference with his genuine smile and excellent recommendations. He really took care of us making us feel like home. The breakfast was great, the beds were as comfy as they can get, location is central, yet peaceful, nothing more to ask for.

1923 Home so beautifully restored: incredible view, 15m pool and beautiful rooms. My daughter and I felt very safe in the heart of Johannesburg, Kensington. Home secured via an alarm at night—safe parking in the property.

What a perfect stay! The property is so clean and beautiful. The views on Joburg are insane. Breakfast is very good and complete. Thanks to Perry for helping with everything. He is literally available 24h! Always checking on you when you come back to the hotel, saying some kind words. The hosts Xavier and his wife are SO kind and welcoming. Helped a lot with some recommendations. Feeling safe in the area and in the garden, they have security gates. I will come back!!

My stay at Fishbird Art Deco Villa was absolutely lovely. Percy and Xavier are fantastic hosts who truly looked after us—we always felt safe and cared for. Every morning, Percy prepared the most delicious breakfasts with special touches and great attention to detail. He is an excellent chef, and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts on the terrace. As for the villa itself, it is exquisitely decorated, with beautiful wooden floors, stunning period light switches, and elegant lighting. It feels like a true piece of Johannesburg’s architectural history. The house has a warm, sunny atmosphere, beautiful vast views to the north, and a lovely big swimming pool. When I visit that side of town again, I would absolutely book Fishbird Villa without hesitation. Thank you, Xavier & Percy, for such a special experience!

We loved the feeling of being welcome, safe and taken care of. The property has been beautifully and carefully restored to a genuine Art Deco experience which is unique, very comfortable and peaceful. Percy, the young man who manages this guest house is a caring and very respectful host. As a qualified cook he prepared for us a sumptuous breakfast every day and we honestly felt as if we were in a 5 star hotel. The Villa is a memorable option if you want to explore a marvellous city and a city that is bouncing back to its former self. We will certainly come back.

What an amazing stay! Fishbird will be my go-to spot when I am in Johannesburg now. The property is beautiful with an incredible view of the valley below and so many lovely spaces to rest and relax (including the swimming pool!). The room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated. It was like a little oasis in the city with easy access to the airport and into the city centre. A special thanks to Percy who really went above and beyond to ensure I had a great stay. Meeting Percy is worth the trip to Johannesburg alone! Highly recommend Fishbird!

Very intimate and serene place. Good for family with kids. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The artistic theme of the decor created such special memories. The availability or solar power and borehole water brilought peace of mind during Joburg power cuts and the water crisis

The kitchen has a nice big fridge that customers can put their stuff in, but It would also be nice if the rooms had private fridges and the other room had a private TV. Only our room had a TV and the kids' room didn't.

My stay was too short(

About halfway between airport and center of town. Decorated with excellent taste. Percy went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. Help with supper, transportation. Even very early breakfast for early flight.

Not recommended to walk at night in neighborhood.

The property was clean and had a great view of the city. The antique decor is really amazing if that’s your sort of thing. For the price, it’s really worth it.

I wish there were more dustbins in the compound.

Super clean and cozy stay. Delicious breakfast with peaceful and spectacular view. Excellent service from the friendly manager, Percy. It was quite chilly so the electric blanket was great. We had the whole place to ourselves for most of our stay which was an added bonus!

Exceptional stay with a great and caring Manager. Super cozy, super clean, amazing view - it actually can not get better than this. The house (which only has 4 guest-rooms, which makes you feel you stay with friends) is PV-powered and the Manager is very helpful carving out your plans. Nice flexible breakfast, adapters for European plugs already in the room, full access to the well equipped kitchen.

While the property is amazing, the neighborhood (streets nearby) is a mixed bag and Jules-Street is close. So you leave your beautiful stay and within 2 mins in your car you see "the other side of things". As most of Joburg this is not an area you want to walk around - but this should NOT prevent you from booking this jewel, you just need a car and all is good.

Everything! This place was a dream in a much needed time of rest. We have stayed in many places in Jozi, this place is exceptional! This is the first place out of dozens that we actually didn't have a single issue that needs attention. Staff was wonderful, breakfast was spot on and well presented, bed was most comfortable, bath was my favorite, beautiful relaxing outdoor seating and hammock. It is very quiet for the city.

Parking is next to my only worry if there were more people than us. We have a big bakkie. And there are no ceiling fans or fans at all in the room we stayed in for that matter. We did get a bit hot and would've liked the option of having some white noise the fan would've given as well.

A real gem, probably one of my favorite hotels I stayed at in years. Incredible staff and owners, and the space is just breathtaking.

The only negative is for those people who want to be closer to the city since it is located in a remote neighborhood.
