Provider-sourced guest reviews.
As my previous review states this is a superb place to stay. Spotlessly clean and the hosts are brilliant. This is the ideal place to stay if one doesnt need to be in the CBD although its only a 15 minute bus ride and the stop is a two minute walk. Cant say enough about this place and will be back in november.
As my comment above there is nothing to dislike.
Well located and central location that was very quiet and peaceful. We had a beautiful room with our own bathroom. Hosts and other guests were lovely.
Quiet central location especially for Eden Park - 40 min walk. Friendly staff and lovely welcoming feel
If you need a car park, please request this.
Lovely large old style rooms
For the money we paid there was NOTHING GOOD about this place
Where to begin. From the moment we arrived and the door code we were given was wrong, to the moment we left tired and unrested, this place ticked all the boxes for being a Rip Off. The 'Garden View' outside the window was a tree with a narrow strip of weeds between the window and the fence. The promised 430ft2 room including ensuite was no more than 270ft2. The TV did not work because the aerial required was digital and instead some combination of analogue wires and signal amplifier box was connected & clearly it did not work. The wooden floor of the house's central passage made every footstep of every guest making their way to the kitchen and communal bathroom a constant annoyance, the bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in - placing folded blankets under the sheet to soften the mattress made no difference. The bed itself was barely a double, and my partner and I were cramped together in the centre of the bed in search of any comfort there might be. There was only 1 power point on one side of the bed making it impossible to charge devices without plugging them in on the far side of the room. Thank goodness I always travel with a multi box ! The TV occupied one power point, and as it was a useless ornament in the room, we were able to liberate that outlet for use. No jug or coffee and tea making facilities in the room - a trip to the kitchen was required for the early morning cuppa. And then to add insult to that injury, the only milk available was sachets of milk powder. One of the shower doors was off its runners, so would not close properly meaning water leaked out onto the bathroom floor. The so-called private bbq area / terrace was in fact a shared facility outside the communal kitchen and laundry, and not as implied in the listing a private facility for the 'Deluxe King Suite'. For $440 for 2 nights this was the biggest Rip Off this experienced traveller has ever encountered.
Location excellent for what we needed and off street parking a bonus
Bed comfy and host very receptive and showed us everything upon arrival.
Was not aware of the shared bathroom and kitchen facilities but was ok for a night. Next time would request this request as some rooms do have this.
the owners make it enjoyable as all information related to arriving and entry was provide by email. The property is spotlessly clean and the kitchen has everything needed to cook including jars of tea and coffee etc. bus 295 is a two minute walk and only a 15 minute ride into the cbd. For me the large tv is a bonus and the wifi is excellent. i visit quite often and this is the nicest place ive stayed. The place is nicely decorated and has a homely feeling rather than motel or hotel vibe reflecting the though the owners put into it. i cant praise this place enough and will be back soon.
nothing as this place is exceptional as described above
Location and instructions were great.
Bathrooms were quite dated.
Friendly and peaceful.
All good
Very relaxing. Very helpful.
All good.
We spent most of time out and about. We went to watch rugby at Eden park. was close to everything we needed. we didnt spent much time with the guests but just to shower and sleep.
we were happy with everything
It was a quiet location, safe enough to leave the car parked on the street overnight.
Our room was at the opposite end of the house from the bathrooms.
The location and style of the house. The owner was very friendly and offered lost of help
Due to the design and age of the house it transmits noise but the owner asks all guests to be quiet between 9.00pm and 8:00am
The house was nice, with a number of enjoyable spaces to sit.
Bed very hard, and the pillows were made up of foam pieces. More of a back packer vibe than we expected. Parking was tight.
Excellent location, 15min walk to Mount Eden village cafes. Onsite parking. Lovely decor. Very clean. Comfy bed
Nothing. The only very minor issue was the “deluxe double room” description states it is ensuite and there is a bath. The bath is actually in the shared bathroom so a little misleading/i misunderstood.
Location fairly close to Mt Eden village. The owner and staff friendly and helpful.
No window in our twin bed room
Welcoming and helpful host. Lot of nice outdoor sitting areas.
Didn’t realise it was a shared kitchen when booked but managed ok. Not enough space in room.
Nice decor in all the rooms. Complete kitchen to prepare meals. Sitting areas inside and out. Quiet location and an easy walk to main roads to catch the bus to City Centre.
Nothing!!
Close to where we wanted to be. Within walking distance. Quiet, away from main street.
Everything
No
The owner, Elmer, is extremely friendly and highly cooperative in nature.
We were thrilled to have the king room with an ensuite. Elmer was charming and friendly. It's a really beautiful, light-filled home with high ceilings and a spacious communal kitchen. Lovely areas for sitting and beautiful flowers - real and silk - adorn every space.
I couldn't fault a thing.
Rien
The house is beautiful, the owners are nice. One bedroom that we used was good, the other one was very stuffy and rather dark because it only had internal windows, openable to an internal corridor/seating area, so we tend to keep the windows and curtains closed for privacy.
It's not that we didn't like - but because it's a shared house, sometimes we had to stand in line to go to the bathroom. Plus, not everyone kept the kitchen neat and tidy, especially around the sink.
exceptional value for money. more like a private home than a hotel . large room . hosts were friendly . allowed us to store our bags as we had a late flight .
The roof window blind hung down letting light in .
Nothing
Our stay was very disappointing. The listing was misleading—it didn’t clearly say that it is a shared apartment where the toilet, kitchen, and other facilities are shared with many guests. The room had a sunroof with no cover, so it was very difficult to sleep. Because of this, we lost two nights of proper rest. At the same price, there were private apartments available, but we wasted two days due to this unclear information.
Common spaces were fine. Room with single beds needed ventilation and felt old.
Needs to provide shampoo etc rather than just leave other people’s goods to use. Hairdryers didn’t work. Upgrade bed covers.
The property was clean, presentable and close to the city. The host was very nice and accommodating!
Nothing, everything was great
You can use a fully equipped kitchen. Nice garden outside. Storage place in the fridge and in the wall cabinet.
Very thin-walled - you hear everything from everyone.
The house was tidy, neat, and organised. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The owner/staff was very friendly, welcoming, approachable, and kind. Definitely will be back and recommend this place!
Good location
Concern was that there was on site parking, but had to park on the street due to the poor parking of outhers staying there at the same time. Also we had to change rooms at the last minute which didn't quite suit us but we went with it.
The hospitality was exceptional! Loved every minute there. Location was just what I was looking for ☺️👌🤗
What a beautiful place for a quiet retreat. Wonderful hosts and wonderful guests. The house is truly La Casa Bonita (The beautiful house)
Big clean room.
Everything was clean and nice; the only thing I didn’t like was that the Teflon-coated cookware was very worn and damaged, which can be harmful to health.
Great location, off-street, away from the main road and very apt for those seeking a homely stay. Rooms were elegant and the owners were very accommodating.

Helpfulness and flexibility
Pretty cool place with lots of lovely plants around.
Pretty loud in the early morning
Not pretty and not little. The house was like an old man that creaked with every step and was difficult to sleep. Parking was offered but was a contest.
Čisté, příjemný vstřícný ubytovatel, povolil dřívější check-in, lokalita dostupná MHD se dovrým spojením do centra
Location, beautiful house, nice host
Could hear the other guest next door. Very hard to fall asleep with the noise their were making
This accomodation respects the building itself, on a darling street, just out of the big downtown, Newmarket. Excllent old style details and features.
Nothing. I didn't even stay in the end.
The advert for every room says they have a hot tub and fireplace. What they fail to explain is that what they believe is a 'hot tub' is actually a bath. Ye ye maybe sometimes it is a 'hot tub' when the bath is filled with hot water. I booked it thinking there'd be a nice quiet space to use, but na it's a big shared bathroom, where anyone can take a bath! Then they tell you they aren't the owner and they have no way of knowing if you can have a refund. But what they can do is take your money, never respond to you or even booking.com and then even when you don't use any of the facilities or stay there, they will still not refund you. If you are happy to book something simple with loads of shared facilities I imagine it's great. If they are advertising rooms with hot tubs and you get there and it's actually a bath, then ye you're gonna be annoyed.
Kleines aber sehr gutes Zimmer. Alles war vorhanden und sauber. Die Gemeinschaftsbäder sind sauber. Freundliches hilfsbereites Personal.
Always hassle free. I love the old style large rooms.
Check-in was very easy. The owner is friendly & approachable. The unit was well-equipped, and comfortable. Very good value for the price. The location is central, and easy to travel to and from.
Th location was great
The noise of people going past out room to the toilet also somebody fell over and then vomited in the toilet kept us awake
Lovely and warm- excellent heating, excellent large fridge. Dry inside despite deluges of rain. Despite age, bathroom and kitchen were adequate. Main building beautiful well looked after antique property. Host quick to assist with any queries or problems.
Non existent garden for an advertised garden flat. Missing sugar- host tested the white powder provided with his finger twice- at least he used a different finger- we think it was milk powder. Stepped on rodent excreta in bedroom in my slippers - very smelly. Very old worn kitchen and bathroom. Had to cast from my phone to watch tv as no signal.
Our one-night stay at the Victorian house in Mt Eden, Auckland, was very pleasant. We appreciated the comfortable accommodation and excellent location. The house's classical figures and overall ambiance provided a unique and enjoyable setting.
Shared toilet and bathroom. It was fine.
The price (mid-winter special) was amazing value. Central location, quiet, fab rooms (we had a king with ensuite), shared kitchen with full facilities, laundry. Great for several nights. Space to store food. Like being at home!
Being June, the house being 115yrs old is cold without heating. The kitchen we didn’t stay loo long. Bedrooms were fine once the heating kicked in. The TV signal in our room was weak. We did struggle to make contact by mobile phone.
Very vlose to Allevia Hospital. Worked out excellent for out of towners.
