Maccan's Village

J’ai passé 3 jours dans cet établissement et j’ai adoré mon séjour ! L’emplacement est vraiment idéal : tout près de la plage et du centre, tout en étant suffisamment à l’écart pour ne pas être en plein milieu de l’agitation. Le personnel est toujours souriant, attentionné et aux petits soins. Et la piscine est juste incroyable ! 😍 Je recommande vraiment cet établissement !

Le seul petit point négatif serait qu’il n’y a pas d’eau chaude dans la douche. Mais ça reste un détail et cela n’a pas gâché mon séjour. 😊

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING We booked to stay here after reading reviews and looking at the photos. What a shock we had to find the photos shown here and what we actually got were completely different. We were instructed via WhatsApp to pay in cash which we did, then once they had our money told rooms were not ready. We left our bags and went off to get lunch returning in the evening hours later to find rooms still were not ready . We asked for towels and bedding to be given smelly damp towels and no bedding. We went to our room to wait and then realised how disgusting the room was. The bathroom was full of mould , the towel rack mouldy and filthy . A hole and crack in the inside of the sink ,filthy dirty shower head, thick dirt on the shower gulley .Stains on the furniture and walls, The furniture was old battered, with graffiti on bedside lockers and filthy. A broken wash basket no top sheet or duvet . We told them we had no choice but to leave as noone would stay in such a filthy room.We said keep that nights money but wanted the rest back . $1500 for 2 rooms that were not fit for purpose The staff told us no refund at all ...we were to stay 9 nights . They were rude and intimidating turning lights off everywhere ( it was after 11pm ) tuk tuks arriving with random men standing staring at us . The owner was rude over the phone also told us no refund then refused to discuss any more only after texting what did we expect & we could have a clean bigger room in 2 days time! We said a clean bed a clean shower... The basics! We ended up having to find another hotel that night so extra money apent. We told the police and spent 4 hours at the police station where we finally came to get most of our money back in cash. For us as 4 adults and a teenager was an awful experience but if we had young children it would have been alot worse .

Très bel emplacement avec une piscine très agréable.

An sich eine schöne Anlage in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße, nur wenige Meter vom Strand entfernt. Der kleine Pool war gepflegt.Arugam Bay ist ein lebendiger Ort mit vielen Backpackern, daher gibt es eine Vielzahl von Lokalen und Cafés . Man kann problemlos und günstig Surfunterricht buchen. Sehr gut gefallen hat uns ein Ausflug zum Elefant Rock (ca. 20 Minuten mit dem Tuktuk) zum Schwimmen und zum Sonnenuntergang.

Die Unterkunft ist in die Jahre gekommen und ziemlich abgenutzt, das Mobiliar nicht gepflegt und die Zimmer sind etwas lieblos eingerichtet. Das Personal sprach nicht sehr gut Englisch und wirkte überwiegend etwas missmutig, unorganisiert und häufig überfordert.Insgesamt war es okay, aber sehr überteuert.

Rien. L’établissement a annulé notre réservation de 8 personnes le jour même alors qu’elle était confirmée depuis plusieurs mois et re confirmée par mail 3 semaines avant.

Værelserne slidt, upersonlig, nusset, lugt sener, møbler ude og inde meget slidt eller ødelagt, ude bruser mangelfuld osv.

Locatie was prima, direct aan het strand, met een heerlijke koffie/ontbijt tent om de hoek (Salty Beer). De airco in de kamers werkte ook top. Mowgly was een fijne surfleraar die we kunnen aanbevelen, hij neemt je mee met de tuktuk naar andere surfspots waar het minder druk is.

Foto's komen niet overeen met de werkelijkheid, en dus vonden wij prijs/kwaliteit niet overeenkomen. Het lijkt jammer genoeg een beetje vergane glorie, er wordt niks meer in geinvesteerd, maar het heeft wel veel potentie en ligt op een goede locatie aan het begin van het dorp en aan het strand waar leuke strandtentjes zijn. Het personeel bestaat uit een stuk of 5 jongens die wat nonchalant overkomen, de hele dag wat aan het vegen zijn en waarvan er zelfs s nachts een paar op de bank in de receptie slapen. Jammer dat ze er niet meer van maken!

Pool was good. Location was handy at north end of town.

Staff seemed uninterested once they knew we wouldn’t be surfing. First morning’s breakfast was farcical, so we went out for brunch on our remaining days. Seemed expensive compared to other places we’d stayed. But it was the height of the season in Arugambay I guess.

Maccan’s Village is a great option for accommodation in Arugam Bay. It is clean and the rooms have everything you may need. The location is amazing. 2 minute walk to the beach and next to lots of restaurants and shops. The staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. We had an issue with our booking as we booked quite last minute and the staff sorted it instantly making the whole process a lot less stressful for us.

Everything is great. The only room with a fridge is the largest rooms. It would have been nice to have a fridge in all the rooms but other than that 10/10.

The pool and the location

Weird atmosphere, not very welcoming although there was lots of staff. Unfortunately the rooms were not cleaned properly, however the pool area was very nice and clean. The rooms are tired, the shower tap came off and flooded the room :)

Alleen de eigenaar weet alle prijzen en afspraken. Het zou handig zijn als de rest van het personeel hier ook vanaf weet.

Prima verblijf gehad, als er iets mankeerde (airco lekte bijvoorbeeld) werd dit meteen opgelost. Lekker ontbijt met Sri Lankaanse koffie en eten.

Wir waren 7 Nächte hier und insgesamt leider sehr unzufrieden. Nachdem wir unser Feedback offen angesprochen hatten, haben sich die Mitarbeiter entschuldigt und sichtbar mehr bemüht und ihren Service verbessert. Dafür möchten wir ihnen Anerkennung geben. Trotzdem bleiben die organisatorischen & strukturellen Probleme dieses Hotels bestehen und können durch Freundlichkeit allein nicht ausgeglichen werden.

Wir mussten sofort alles in bar zahlen. Es gab während unseres gesamten Aufenthalts (7 Nächte) keinen regelmäßigen Zimmerservice. Wir mussten selbst darum bitten (wie ungefähr alles). Gerade in einem Strandhotel mit viel Sand völlig unverständlich. Zu Beginn bekamen wir für 7 Nächte lediglich 1 Handtuch pro Kopf und mussten selbst nach weiteren fragen. Das Badezimmer war feucht, roch unangenehm, kein Abzieher, keine vernünftige Badematten, keine Ablageflächen. Ameisen im Bad & Zimmer. Die Handtücher fusselten stark. Das Wasser schmeckte so unangenehm, dass selbst Zähneputzen schwierig war. Der Pool wurde regelmäßig gepflegt und trotzdem war enttäuschend. Dort befanden sich Insekten, die gebissen haben. Nach einer Verletzung im Pool hat sich niemand erkundigt oder Hilfe angeboten. Das Frühstück war gut, die Zubereitung war aber langsam (bis 1 Stunde) trotz Vorbestellung. Der Service wirkte insgesamt unorganisiert und wenig professionell. Die Mitarbeiter waren zwar freundlich, sehr jung und machten manchmal einen unmotivierten Eindruck. Sie arbeiten ohne Führung und Kenntnisse. Bei den kleinsten Anliegen mussten sie jemanden anrufen und nachfragen - und manchmal bekamen wir keine Antwort. Englischkenntnisse waren teilweise begrenzt. Die Gäste werden mit „Bro“ angesprochen. Das mag gut gemeint sein, wirkt gegenüber zahlenden Gästen jedoch unprofessionell. Weitere Kritikpunkte: Die Bar nebenan außerdem recht laut. Lage nicht ideal für Surfers. Für das Preisniveau in Sri Lanka hatten wir deutlich mehr erwartet. Ein paar Tage nach der Abreise wurde unsere Booking.com-Reservierung vom Hotel storniert, obwohl wir selbstverständlich dort übernachtet haben. Das erweckt einen merkwürdigen Eindruck (Bewertungsmanipulation / Steuern).

La habitación con aire acondicionado era amplia y cómoda. Piscina limpia.

Tiene piscina aunque tendrían que regular las tumbonas, ya que la gente dejaba la toalla y se iba todo el día fuera. El baño era extraño ya que si te duchabas se mojaba todo el suelo porque el desague estaba lejos. Habían pequeños detalles que se deberían cuidar un poco más teniendo en cuenta la calidad-precio.

Cerca de la playa, la piscina está muy bien. La ubicación es perfecta, los restaurantes y demás están cerca.

Las habitaciones están un poco antiguas. Estuvimos esperando para hacer el check in bastante tiempo ya que no tenían la habitación preparada.

Extrem schlecht, geht niemals in dieses Hotel!

Alles. Es hat damit begonnen, dass uns beim Check in gesagt wurde, dass wir die erste Nacht in einem anderen Zimmer verbringen müssten und danach in unser eigentlich gebuchtes Zimmer kommen würden. Dieses Zimmer hatte allerdings ein komplett dreckigen Bezug. Die Arbeiter haben daraufhin die Decke gewechselt, Kissenbezüge hatten sie aber nicht mehr, weshalb wir bis zum nächsten Morgen warten mussten und auf dem dreckigen Bezug schlafen mussten. Am nächsten Tag hat abends die Toilette nicht mehr funktioniert (sie spülte kein Wasser mehr) und wir konnten kein Hotelpersonal finden, weshalb wir ca. 12 Stunden ohne Toilette auskommen mussten. Abgesehen davon hat es im Badezimmer so enorm gestunken, dass wir es kaum betreten konnten. Am darauffolgenden Tag konnten wir unsere gesamten Sachen packen, um in unser eigentliches Zimmer einzuchecken (was noch schlimmer war als vorher). Wir konnten die Tür zum Badezimmer weder abschließen noch überhaupt zu machen, damit der Gestank nicht ins Zimmer kommt. Die Tür zum Bad war demnach total kaputt. (Ich habe von allem auch Videos, die ich hier aber leider nicht einfügen kann….)Genauso wie die Zimmertür, denn diese war auch kaputt und wir mussten jedes Mal um die Tür überhaupt abschließen zu können,ca. 5 Minuten davor stehen und es versuchen, bis uns am letzten Abend ein neues Schloss eingebaut wurde, weil wir den Schlüssel gar nicht mehr rausziehen konnten. Ansonsten der Standart: Als wir nach Handtüchern gefragt haben, bekamen wir dreckige, als wir dann wieder um neue gebittet haben, bekamen wir komplett neue(ungewaschene) die gefusselt haben. Außerdem war das Zimmer an sich sehr dreckig, die Wand im Badezimmer war schon mehr weiß als grün, auf dem Waschbecken waren Tiere, etc. Wir haben natürlich direkt in der ersten Nacht den Kundenservice von Booking.

Het personeel kan zich niet interesseren in de gasten en lijken een stelletje hangjongeren die maar een beetje rondhangen in het hotel. Goed geholpen wordt je niet en met hun Engels kom je ook niet ver. De badkamer ziet eruit alsof die verder ook voor een lange tijd niet is schoongemaakt. Enkel de grond dweilen ze snel maar dat is het. Ook staat er dat je voor airco 150€ bij zou moeten betalen, maar wij kregen de indruk dat airco overal gewoon standaard in de kamer zit (Behalve bij de budget kamer, die weten we niet zeker). Het lijkt alsof ze je dus extra willen laten betalen.

Lovely courtyard pool, comfortable bed, friendly service, great location. A reasonable stay overall, no big issues, but I did stay two nights elsewhere in Arugam Bay for a similar cost which had better facilities and very hospitable service so by contrast Maccans seemed fine, but not great

On the full day I was there the power kept dropping out. Not sure if this is a regular thing or if they were just having issues that day but nobody spoke to me about it.

The caretakers were nice and polite. All the facilities were available to us too. It was a pleasant stay.

They don’t have a card machine to pay at the property. I couldn’t withdraw from the ATM nearby and they expected me to make sure I pay. I tried explaining to them that I did not have a withdraw option and that I had to pay by card. I ran around to other shops asking to pay them by card and they could give the cash but that wasn’t possible. I ended up going to one of the surf shops right Maccan’s Village that had this gem of a person who helped me with the transaction as he had the card machine. He took an extra 3% for the transaction fee but that’s fine. Money wasn’t the issue. Not having a car machine in a hotel is completely not acceptable. I am a person who doesn’t like carrying lots of cash around. It easier and safer to travel that way.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a really pleasant experience, especially considering how budget-friendly it is. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, offering great value for the price. One of the highlights was the swimming pool—it was clean, well-kept, and a perfect place to relax after a long day. It definitely added a touch of luxury to an otherwise affordable stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. They were always ready to help with a smile, which made the overall experience even more enjoyable. Overall, this hotel is a great choice if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay without compromising on comfort, good service, and nice amenities like a pool. I would definitely consider staying here again.

Absolutely nothing. This was one of the worst accommodation experiences we have ever had. The property looked much better online than in reality.

The stay was a complete disaster from the first night. We arrived exhausted after more than 30 hours of travelling and could not rest at all because the noise isolation in this place is non-existent. Every night there were loud guests screaming, drinking, jumping in the pool area and making noise until early morning. The staff did absolutely nothing to control the situation even after complaints. The room was not clean enough, the overall condition of the property felt poorly maintained and uncomfortable, and the atmosphere was chaotic rather than relaxing. Communication with the staff was also disappointing — they were unhelpful, dismissive and clearly did not care about guests’ comfort or sleep quality. We requested to leave earlier because staying there became unbearable, but instead of trying to resolve the situation professionally, the property showed zero flexibility or customer care. This place completely ruined part of our vacation. The positive reviews honestly do not reflect the real experience we had here. We would never stay again and absolutely cannot recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful or comfortable stay in Arugam Bay.

The staff at Maccan's Village are friendly, helpful and meticulous about keeping the property and pool neat, tidy and clean. It was so good to cool off in the Pool. The location is perfect as it's close to the beach and only a short walk to the centre of Arugam Bay. Highly recommend.

Nous avons constaté un dysfonctionnement de la climatisation (nécessité de régler à 16° pour obtenir une température a peu près correcte), de plus la porte de la salle de bain se fermait avec beaucoup de difficulté. Il y était présent une odeur d'humidité. C'est pour ces raisons que nous ne mettons pas 10.

I had a really pleasant stay at Maccans Village. The place was very clean, calm, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The location is also nice and peaceful. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Lovely BIG & very clean pool. Don’t be put off by the bad reviews, it wasn’t gross and dirty at all. Huge room with great working aircon and massive bed. Breakfast included was very yummy and fresh. We wish we’d stayed for longer rather than paying more money for a different hotel down the road the previous nights.

It was totally as expected - basic accommodation but perfectly serviceable and comfortable. Arafat goes out of his way to keep you happy and solve issues. WiFi and aircon didn’t work initially but this was soon sorted. There was also power outage on the last day. Shower was warmish but this is honestly all that’s needed.

The only outside seating space is shared with others. The pool is very warm. In order for the room to be a comfortable temperature the upstairs is pretty chilly. Do not book your safari through the hotel - book online.

Ligging perfect tussen centrum en zee

De locatie is echt perfect. Je zit mooi tussen het strand en de straat vol met leuke restaurantjes en winkels. Ook de kamer is schoon en heeft alles wat je nodig hebt. Echt een aanrader! Er woont ook nog eens een hele lieve kat 😋

Tak szczerze to praktycznie wszystko. Hotel jest przestarzały, meble w pokojach wymagały wymiany już dobrych kilka lat temu. Jest brudno, widać, że nikt nie przykłada do tego wagi, nawet wkłady od poduszek były całe czarne. W pokoju bardzo zły zapach, podkreślam, że NIE MA TAM CIEPŁEJ WODY. Jeśli wam to nie przeszkadza, to nie ma problemu, ale my byliśmy tego nieświadomi i to nie tak; że akurat jak my byliśmy to nie działała- właściciele powiedzieli na miejscu, ze w ogóle jej nie mają. Jeździliśmy po Sri lance 2tyg i spaliśmy w miejscach za 30zł, które oczywiście nie miały luksusów, ale były czyste. A tu płaci się ogromne pieniądze ZA NIC, nawet nie jest porządnie posprzątane. Byłam bardzo zawiedziona..

Lovely pool area and very close to the beach and some nice restaurants. About 10-15 minute walk to Mambo’s which throws some good parties. The room itself was very spacious. Aircon was excellent.

The bathroom did not have any ventilation so it had a lingering smell.

L’hôtel est super bien situé dans la rue principale. La piscine est très propre et agréable et les extérieurs sont entretenus. La chambre et la salle de bains étaient propres et la literie très confortable. Anas et son personnel sont à votre écoute. Ils ont un service de laundry. L’hôtel est calme. Si vous souhaitez prendre des cours de surf, le cousin d’Anas peut s’en charger pour 17e de cours pour 75 minutes.

Je trouve que les chambres manquent d’équipements (un balai, on ramène beaucoup de sable et une raclette pour la douche).

What a gem of a hotel! From the efficient check-in/check-out process, each moment was delightful. Also, the hotel has a very secure and safe environment. The rooms were clean and very comfortable, with elegant décor. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. We ve had a wonderful time at Maccan’s Village. The cute little hotel is super central, has a working a/c and very kind and friendly staff. Water is cold but that doesn’t matter as it had 39“ outside. Highly recommend!

El equipo es muy majo y atento siempre a lo que pudiéramos necesitar. El desayuno genial. Anás nos ayudó con el alquiler de la moto y nos consiguió un buen precio.

Camera vecchia e con parti rotte, bagno tutto in uno senza piano doccia di conseguenza si allaga tutto. Non lo consiglierei per un periodo prolungato. Inoltre come posizione è piuttosto lontano dalla zona piu attiva della baia. I letti non hanno zanzariere e ci sono parecchi insetti.

To be honest not much. Looked much nicer on booking.com. Good location but I have stayed in better hostels.

Staff, always running around hard to relax by the pool. Pool felt dirty and too many chemicals. Room stank of chemicals and it was pretty horrible. The electric stopped for 16 hours and no communication was given from staff. Bed felt like the mattress was laying on the floor. Bathroom strange shower, dark and no access to hot water.

¡OJO! NO RESERVAR! Es curioso pero el alojamiento NUNCA lo llegamos a pisar, os cuento para poneros en contexto. La reserva la teníamos para 6 personas 4 habitaciones. La noche anterior a nuestra llegada a Arugam recibimos un mensaje del coordinador indicándonos que solo les quedaban dos habitaciones libres/disponibles a nuestra llegada y que los seis teníamos que distribuirnos en esas dos habitaciones hasta el día siguiente que es cuando se quedaban libres, obvio que le dijimos que NO ya que teníamos 4 habitaciones reservadas desde hacía dos meses. Su excusa fue que tenía otros huéspedes en su hotel que querían prorrogar su estancia allí y no podían decirles que no, ABSURDO NO? Después de perder mucho tiempo de mi tranquilidad en mis vacaciones cabreado, negociando con el coordinador nos facilitaron un hotel con 4 habitaciones para el resto de nuestra estancia que realmente estaba mejor que el Maccan’s. Hasta ahí después del cabreo nos quedamos conformes, pero la historia continúa. Tras la segunda noche en este nuevo hotel, nuestra sorpresa fue que el coordinador de Maccan’s nos comenta que este nuevo alojamiento tiene todas las habitaciones reservadas y tenemos que irnos a otro hotel a pasar otra noche porque llegan otros huéspedes. Eso ya nos superó… nuestra idea de relax y de disfrute se vio perturbada. Nos realizó un descuento por las molestias ocasionadas, lo agradecimos enormemente pero no quita los malos momentos que llegamos a pasar, teniéndonos que mover dos veces de hotel y empaquetando nuestras cosas en dos ocasiones. He de decir que los hoteles que nos ofrecieron estaban mejor que Maccan’s

ארוחת הבוקר לא טעימה, החדרים קטנים ומאוד בסיסיים והמקלחת מזעזעת - ממש אי אפשר להתקלח בה. המון אורחים רואים את המקום ופשוט עוזבים.

Siamo arrivati e non abbiamo ricevuto nessuna accoglienza, nonostante il tizio fosse nella stanza affianco vetrata, sdraiato sul divano, siamo dovuti andare noi a chiedere a chi dovessimo rivolgerci. Ci hanno assegnato una stanza diversa da quella prenotata, piccola, sporca, piena di insetti di piccole e grandi dimensioni, c’era una blatta enorme. Il giorno dopo ci hanno cambiato stanza, dandoci quella per cui avevamo pagato, la situazione non cambiava molto, lavandino del bagno con un buco enorme, muffa e sporco negli angoli, solo leggermente più grande e con un’aria condizionata un po’ più funzionante rispetto a quella della notte prima che funzionava ma andava solo ad una temperatura bassissima che mi ha costretta a dormire con felpa e foulard in testa per non gelarmi tutta la notte, non c’era la possibilità neanche di spegnerla. La colazione accettabile, anche se il servizio era lento e un po’ confusionario, il caffè orribile! Di buono la piscina non era male. Ovviamente l’unica cosa che il tizio ha chiesto subito senza dirci la situazione delle stanze, che quindi ci avrebbero dato il giorno dopo quella per cui avevamo pagato, sono stati i soldi e non pochi rispetto a tanti hotel in cui sono stata in Sri Lanka, il più caro, il più pessimo, sporco e poco accogliente.

Er was geen douchegel of shampoo, de kamers waren niet echt luxe, bedden hard, terwijl je toch 90 euro per nacht betaald.

Poolen var god, fin terrasse. Nem booking af surf direkte på hotellet. Rigtig god beliggenhed med under 1 minuts gang til stranden.

Koldt brusebad. Hele badeværelset bliver fyldt med vand, når man tager et bad. Manglende lys på værelset. Gamle og hårde solsenge med meget gamle madrasser på. Hele hotellet mangler lidt en opfriskning, faciliteterne er slidte.

Geen stroom en water……. We hebben een verzoek gedaan om de rekening aan te passen, omdat er een dag geen elektriciteit en water was. Zonder airco en douche is deze accommodatie niet prettig. Daar wilde de manager niets van weten. Ze gaven aan dat er in dat deel van Arugam de hele dag geen stroom was. Dat was dus al ruim van tevoren bekend, maar ze hebben ons daar niet over geïnformeerd. Onze chauffeur was door zijn hotel wel geïnformeerd en had wel stroom en water in in hetzelfde deel van Arugam, want dat hotel was aangesloten op een generator. In dit hotel ontbreekt een generator. We hebben de accommodatie die dag meerdere keren vragen gesteld over de situatie, maar kregen geen enkele reactie. Als we dit vooraf hadden geweten dan hadden we een ander hotel geboekt met generator. Vervolgens is de boeking via booking.com zogenaamd gratis geannuleerd, maar pas nadat we het volledige bedrag hadden voldaan. Een heel onprettige manier van handelen. Wij schrijven niet snel een negatieve review, maar in dit geval willen we andere mogelijke gasten dit wel vooraf meegeven.
