The room was good and the bed was comfortable. Liked the view. Staff were all very pleasant. An amazing classic property with no doubt a lot of history.

Room needed a wee bit of TLC in bathroom but it was very clean. The dining experience was terrible such that we left before ordering and ordered a Chinese takeaway. We felt that there was not enough staff to cope with the bus loads of tourists. We were offered water but no glasses arrived. Our neighbour diners food looked terrible and they confirmed the food was indeed terrible. Staff member appeared to tell our neighbouring diners that there would be a delay in them getting their deserts. At that point we decided to leave and find other option to be fed. We feel embarrassed about what the tourists must think about Scottish hospitality. This is in no way a criticism of the lovely and friendly staff. We actually feel bad for them. Parking was easily available. The hotel is truly a classic and could be a fantastic experience for foreign tourists who obviously loved the building but the owners should improve the services. This hotel seems to be a cost cutting place to stay in the itinerary of bus tour operators. A very sad reflection on the Scottish tourist industry but a deserved vote of confidence of the staff who operate at this hotel.

Op zich een mooi hotel in een klassiek Engels gebouw. Kamer was ook prima en eten ook.

Maar: de ontvangst was ronduit beroerd. We hebben uren moeten wachten voordat de kamer werd vrijgegeven. De hele hal zat vol met wachtende mensen. Het schoonmaakpersoneel bleek 's middags voor het werk klaar was naar huis gegaan te zijn (arbeidsconflict of zoiets???). Wat dan stoort is dat de hotelmanager onzichtbaar bleef. Nog nooit zoiets meegemaakt. Als pleister op de wond kregen we het eten en het ontbijt gratis, dat dan weer wel. En ik moet zeggen dat het personeel dat er wel was z'n best deed.

Room had dead flies and wasp o windowsill and spider with cobwebs above on ceiling, the price through booking. Com was a rip off £140 approximately for 1 night and if you book elsewhere the next day was £57 feel like I've been ripped off

We are two couples both in our late 70's and were nearing the end of our NC500 journey and therefore very weary. We checked in at approximately 16:15 and were given the keys to our rooms. However, the rooms were not cleaned from the previous occupants, consequently, we went to reception and reported the situation. The receptionist apologised for the inconvenience and offered us a free drink at the bar and assured us this would be dealt with promptly.Therefore, we waited in the lounge two hours, watching further travellers complaining about unclean rooms. Our rooms were not available until 22:00 and even then we helped to make the beds with clean linen. This whole episode caused us significant inconvenience, the hotel was not cleaned to expected standards.

The view

Got to the hotel room wasn’t ready and said it be 10 minutes or so I was fine with that had a pint 45 minutes later I had to go back and see if my room was ready as loads of people came in.

Location, friendly staff., breakfast. Very serene.

The fact that I waited over 2 hours to check in whilst guests who had already checked in were coming down to complain about their rooms! No staff for maintenance or house keeping apparently! When I asked for a refund so I could book elsewhere I was told that was OK. Receptionist tried to put refund through and said it is pending but will be ok. Hadn't came through by the next day so phoned hotel and they said I'd need to do it through booking.con but it shouldn't be a problem. I waited almost as long to get through to customer services at booking.con and they said they would investigate and sent an email to the hotel to find out what happened. A week later I got an email from booking.con saying I wasn't getting the refund! I don't know who's worse to be honest but I won't be using booking.con anymore, using a different, more reliable app and certainly won't be going to Highland Hotel.

The location

Very busy when bus parties are in.

The building and location are beautiful. Our double room with a view was a great view overlooking the Victorian square. Quick walk into the square with coffee and food places.

Standard check in time is 4.00 and it was another hour before we could check in as none of the rooms were ready. No real apology from management (just left the receptionist to handle everyone). Could have offered everyone waiting a free drink at the bar but didn't. We saw the same issue during our stay.

Strathpeffer area

No hot food cold buffet 1st night rin out ham and chicken roll no hot breakfast both morning second hight arrive to no food was informed something was may be available late Was told on 1st night to get my own food if I wanted some hot.

Ingen personal så vi fick inte rummet förrän 19.30 med enorma köer i receptionen pga detta. Fick inte äta i matsalen första kvällen då detta skulle bokas i förväg i receptionen vilket ingen meddelade oss då vi kom. Andra kvällen var den stängd då de hade ingen gas men jag tror att dom hade ingen kock där. Tyvärr en mycket dålig upplevelse och vi var många som tyckte detsamma.

Rooms had not been cleaned. About 50 guests waiting in the lobby for rooms to be cleaned. Not enough staff food was poor to average.

Lazy staff. Nothing works. Television/ pool table. Lights on the tables. No clean glasses at the bar. Also was no glasses at all. Bathroom taps were disgusting Mouldy bath mat. Stained pillows No housekeeping for 3 days even though the sign was on the door. Rubbish bins not emptied. For 3 days so I had to put it out into the hallways and ask reception for towels as No clean towels. Also had to ask for toilet roll Had to ask reception for them. Dirty cups on tea tray Stagnant water in the kettle. Stair carpet not hoovered in what looked Like months. Didn’t see a cleaner at all. Very poorly run Complained to reception and was told ( what do you want me to do )

Nice staff and clean linens, but severely outdated facilities. Rooms are tiny, worn down, and poorly soundproofed with light bleeding through old doors. Rigid 4 PM check-in policy regardless of room readiness, poor quality food, and reception lacked basic local knowledge about nearby things to explore. Wouldn't return and probably wouldn't recommend.

In de 3 nachten dat wij daar verbleven is er niet 1 keer iemand op onze kamer geweest om te checken of we schone handdoeken nodig hadden of dat er nog genoeg toiletpapier was. Prullenbakken niet geleegd. Ruime douche maar slechte waterdruk. Heel gehorig, we hadden last van de buurman die lag te snurken. Er kwam enorm veel licht onder de deur door, daar hebben we in de nacht maar een handdoek voor gelegd. Het hotel ziet er slecht onderhouden uit, vooral aan de buitenkant. Het stadje zelf is verpauperd met veel leegstand. De TV had vaak storing, beeld viel stil waardoor je een film slecht kon volgen.

Definitely a grand hotel of the highlands from yesteryear. It is a dated hotel but quite a treat overlooking a Victorian spa town. It worked as a stay between Inverness and Skye.

It’s dated, the beds are firm, the common area carpets smell of old smoke.

Lack of response to issues with the shower waste reported on our first night. On our third night I cleaned the waste out myself so that the shower tray didn’t overflow.

Like the location and main hallway, plenty parking space. Room was basic but clean and I was not looking for anything to pick on. Breakfast was good.

The dinner fish and chips were tasteless but for hungry person I assuming was ok.

Las veel negatieve commentaren maar het hotel is heel authentiek en prachtig. De tijd is een beetje stil blijven staan maar op zich zijn alle faciliteiten heel deftig.

My second visit to The Highland Hotel was even better than my visit the previous year and I enjoyed that one thoroughly too. A most characterful hotel with a varied and interesting history located near to the shops and the other amenities of glorious Strathpeffer. I will most certainly be returning again soon to this fabulous and extremely good value hotel in pretty Strathpeffer and can hardly wait to do so!

Bel hôtel à l'ancienne. Notre chambre était rénovée, propre, située vers le bout du couloir et en hauteur, donc au calme. Nous n'avons pas testé le restaurant.

L'ascenseur fait vraiment peur, à éviter. L'insonorisation des portes palières.

Close to the village and eateries. Saturday night they have a singer who is quite good.

The water pressure could have been better.

Staff were unhelpful, one in particular was incredibly dismissive. Stayed for 4 nights , room was not cleaned in this time & towels were not changed throughout the stay.

The staff were friendly without being too intrusive. The hotel room was quiet. I want to particularly note thanks for the provision of a Gideon's Bible in the room.

The windows in the room didn't open. Some fresh air would be nice, even via a safety designed limited opening of the windows.

Scotland is Beautiful we travelled a lot

The hotel was awful under staffed was not properly clean very noisy on one occasion another guest was given a key to our room and she walked in on us I put this down to untrained staff we stayed a week and asked for our room to be serviced on several occasions but they changed the bed on our last day.We had to go and ask for clean towels.we also contacted booking.com about the service we weren't receiving they said they would contact us within 24 hrs no contact was received.my final words on this hotel is don't stay at the Highland hotel because you will be disappointed as for booking.com. very poor customer service

Grand hôtel de style ancien, magnifique cadre, situation dans un parc, nombre suffisant de chambres twin disponibles (groupe de 14 requérant 13 lits), bon restaurant sur place et même un ascenseur pour les bagages des personnes plus âgées :-)

Un effort d’entretien des châssis de fenêtre en bois (peinture écaillée, bois à nu et marqué par les intempéries, visserie bloquée) serait indispensable pour permettre une fermeture adéquate dans certaines chambres précises et signalées à la réception.. Le bon entretien des châssis de fenêtres est nécessaire pour faire sourire cette belle bâtisse et lui conserver son attrayant cachet d’époque.

A beautiful historic building with lovely wooden interiors. However, the hotel is in serious need of renovation. The carpets in the room and corridors were extremely dirty, and the whole place felt poorly cleaned. There were dirty mugs in the room, and the shower looked as if it had not been cleaned for many days.

L'albergo non era molto pulito. Quando siamo entrati si vedeva che pulizia non era fatta a fondo. Volevano darci una tripla invece di una matrimoniale ,solo quando ho detto che sarei andata via mi hanno dato la camera che avevo scelto sul sito. Hanno dimenticato di pulire la stanza.

The location is lovely, and the bedding was clean.

The bedroom was dated, the furniture was mismatched (all of which is not really a problem), but the room was so dirty, and there were many items like the toilet cistern and the lights that were damaged.

I would like to have had a microwave in the dining room i normally add seeds and fruit to my breakfast cereal which needs a gentle heat in the microwave. The cooked breakfast was good but I would like to have had an option of tomatoes instead of beans

Camera silenziosa e posizione centrale.

La camera non era per niente come in foto. In bagno c’erano diverse cose malfunzionanti come la maniglia e i rubinetti. Il resto dell’ambiente è molto vecchio, alcune parti dell’hotel sembrano abbandonate. Abbiamo provato a contattarli e non ci hanno mai risposto (volevamo cenare presso la struttura) Al momento del check in abbiamo quindi chiesto se era possibile cenare lì e ci è stato detto di no.. senza nemmeno controllare. Al nostro arrivo la ragazza della reception stava litigando con un altro cliente in modo animato.

The hotel was lovely, clean and comfortable, food was good value, staff were friendly.

As it hosted coach tours, the meal times were a bit chaotic and individual guests were waiting a bit longer for food and drink.

A nice, clean hotel with good rooms. Unfortunately, we didn't bring swimwear to use the pool. Parking is available around the hotel for £8, arranged via reception. There is an inner courtyard. A good breakfast is available for an extra charge. The waterfront is just a 10-minute walk away. Dogs friendly)

The rooms are old and in need of an update. Soundproofing is poor—we could hear the neighbors next door talking until 1 a.m., and in the morning, we could hear the neighbors upstairs taking a shower.

It’s an impressive hotel set in a lovely location. High ceiling rooms and a very Victorian feel to it. The rooms and bedding were clean and comfortable and we had a tasty breakfast. The staff were lovely, all very friendly and helpful.

The whole place has a run down feel to it, mainly because the main entrance is so badly maintained! It’s needs a good clean up outside and a good coat of paint at the very least. If those 2 raised shrub beds in the courtyard were properly planted and looked after the whole feel to the hotel would be completely different! And cut the laurels down at the front of the hotel, you’re missed one of the best aspects of the hotel. The rooms, although clean, were completely soulless and too basic for the price. It’s always difficult to judge a hotel from a single room as they’re never going to be the big money maker for them, but a bit more charm would have been nice.

Staff were superbly friendly and helpful. Room was adequate for a single, fine for space. Downstairs space a bonus. Staff helped us find somewhere alternative to eat and let us bring food back to the hotel.

Couldn’t eat at the hotel as there was a coach trip booked in. No way to get a drink as the bar was also closed to us despite it being the height of the summer holidays. Bathroom was very outdated - although totally adequate. Parking tricky for a big car.

The room

After booking for evening meal to be told by a member of staff in the resturant that they didn't do meals at that time I checked back with reception and that was the time reception booked it for then to be told to go back in and tell them that he was wrong this isn't my job to do that Then to top it off whilst trying to sleep foreign guests banging and insisting that I was in their room..I wasn't Then I got a call out from my work in the middle of the night front doors locked and the mobile number left for the night porter was wrong Eventually found the night porter who seemed to think I should have known where the back door was situated i must have missed that brief on checking in I have stayed at this hotel many a time and been delighted with the service needles to say I won't bee booking again and am seriously considering not using booking. The room was clean, fresh, and a good size. Staff kindly upgrading our room to one with a good view over the village and onto the local hillside. Very nice.

Over the 2 day stay it was not possible to operate the TV as there was no controller. The breakfast could have been better.

Ordered a double room and was giving a twin room and told there was nothing they could do to change it, Shower had no pressure, Wall had damp patches, Heating was on non stop even though the radiators where turned all the way down and thermostat at 0 found the place far to hot to sleep especially with the bed being springy and wobbly, Room was situated at the front of the main doors of the floor to go to lift/stairs which squeaked so woken up every time someone came up or down stairs to their room

Nice location, nice room and friendly staff.

Breakfast. Three coach parties were staying at the hotel and they literally "hoovered" up the buffet breakfast leaving stressed staff struggling to replenish for the other guests staying there. This left little real choice, and lots of dirty tables for those of us travelling independently and no doubt paying a premium over the coaches to stay there. Not acceptable.
