Ella Family House

Wir hatten eine fantastische Zeit im Ella Family House. Definitiv eines unserer besten Aufenthalte auf Sri Lanka. Shalika und ihre Familie sind sehr nett. Das Frühstück war top und Shalika hat einmal für uns Rice&Curry gekocht. Sehr lecker! Sie war immer hilfsbereit, hat uns tuk tuk organisiert und auch andere Aktivitäten (Tea Plantage). Das war alles unkompliziert und super hilfreich für uns. Das Zimmer war toll, mit Aussicht und hell, dank der viel Glasfenster. Das haben wir sehr gemocht. Alles super sauber. Danke für den tollen Aufenthalt!

Gastgeber ist eine sehr liebe Familie, die uns bei allem unterstützt hat - egal ob Ausflugsplanung oder Tuktuk-Buchung. Wie haben mit unseren drei Kindern im Familien-Zimmer übernachtet. Es war ideal für uns - sehr groß, sehr sauber und mit Annehmlichkeiten wie Kühlschrank und Wasserspender ausgestattet. Das Frühstück war hervorragend - ganz frisch zubereitet und große Auswahl (Western & Sri Lanka). Wie haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt!!!

Es un alojamiento muy especial, gestionado por una familia encantadora. Está situado cerca del centro, pero rodeado de la tranquilidad de las montañas. La habitación en la que nos quedamos era muy amplia, todo estaba impecablemente limpio y las vistas eran realmente espectaculares. Queremos agradecer a la familia toda la ayuda que nos ofrecieron, siempre atentos y resolviendo nuestras dudas en todo momento, lo que hizo que la estancia fuera aún más agradable. El desayuno fue abundante y delicioso, sin duda el mejor que hemos probado en Sri Lanka.

Guest house impeccable tenue par une famille adorable et accueillante. Jolie vue sur le temple. Chambre familiale super propre, petits-déjeuners généreux (tendance sri lankaise). N'est pas au centre d'Ella (Emplacement qui nécessite de prendre un tuktuk, ce qui se fait sans problème, comptez 800 roupies & 5 minutes pour vous y rendre).

Proche de la route qui serpente en contrebas, donc un peu bruyant.

Die Unterkunft ist schön, man hat schöne Aussicht. Groß und geräumig für Familie. Wir waren zu 5. (2 Erwachsene und 3 Kinder) und haben uns wohl gefühlt. Die Eigentümer sind sehr nett und haben uns leckeren vielfältigen Frühstück gemacht. Leider waren wir nur 1 Nacht dort.

Lovely family run hotel with great home made diner.

We booked this place at the last minute as we decided to stay in Ella an extra night. It was a rest decision! Shakila was so helpful and kind and the family apartment (it’s not really a room as there is a door in between bedrooms) was superb. The meal Shalika cooked for us was the best meal we have had in Sri Lanka and she was so helpful in helping us get to see the Perahera. Shalika also runs a cookery school, which we would have loved to sound we hadn’t already done this in Ella. If you arr thinking of doing a cookery class. Do it here! We highly recommend.

We felt very welcome and have enjoyed the big and clean family room. You are outside the busy and noisy Ella but in city center within a few minutes by taxi or tuk tuk. Breakfast was delicious (combo Sri Lankan and continental). So sorry we did not have time for the cooking class

We hebben twee heerlijke dagen in Ella Family House gehad. De kamers waren ruim, schoon en van alle gemakken voorzien. De service was er goed en de eigenaresse hielp ons met vervoer en het plannen van activiteiten. Het ontbijt was heerlijk.

Shalika war eine wundervolle und sehr herzliche Gastgeberin, die bei allem geholfen hat, was man brauchte. Das Zimmer war wunderschön und sehr groß und vom Balkon hat man Aussicht ins Grüne und auf das buddhistische Kloster. Und das Frühstück (inbs. das Dhaal) war köstlich! Es ist etwas ausserhalb von Ella Town und daher ruhiger gelegen (was ich bevorzugte). Man ist aber mit dem Tuktuk für kleines Geld in wenigen Minuten im Stadtkern. Ich würde beim nächsten Mal wieder dort übernachten.

Enjoyed our stay here as a family, waking and listening to the chanting from the monastery opposite then having the best breakfast we had during our time in Sri Lanka. Lovely hosts, very clean room and excellent value.

Eine sehr liebe und hilfsbereite Gastgeberin, die sich mit ihrer Familie große Mühe gibt, den Gästen einen tollen Aufenthalt zu bieten. Sie organisiert Fahrten, wäscht die Wäsche, ihr Essen ist ein Traum, und die Sauberkeit des Zimmers war unter den Besten auf unserer Rundreise. Sie war sogar zur Stelle, als unsere Tochter eine Lebensmittelvergiftung hatte. Ganz klare Empfehlung, hier fühlt man sich als Familie pudelwohl! Vielen Dank, Shalika!

Siamo stati due notti presso la Ella Family House in due con una bambina di 8 anni. La camera era eccezionale e dotata di tutto il necessario incluso un convertitore per le prese elettriche. In assoluto la miglior stanza in cui siamo stati durante il nostro viaggio in Sri Lanka. La colazione era eccezionalmente buona e abbondante. Hanno anche un ottimo servizio di lavanderia. Ma la differenza la fa la gentilezza della proprietaria e di tutta la sua famiglia. Si sono fatti in quattro per rendere piacevole la nostra permanenza.

Loved our stay here. We already miss Shalika and her family. They were great hosts. Very proactive and organised. The rooms were exactly as advertised, very clean and spacious, bathrooms were very clean too. Shalika was always ready to help us with anything that we wanted, be it arranging tuk tuks, helping us plan our safari to Yala, suggesting where in the city we could eat. They were also kind enough to open up their kitchen and let us cook there. Would totally reccommend staying here.

Shalika und ihre Familie sind die richtigen Gastgeber in Ella für Familien und natürlich für alle die eine Tolle und schöne Unterkunft in Ella suchen. Sauber, groß alles was man braucht und ein super tollen Service.

Ein bisschen weg von der Innenstadt aber Shalika besorgt ein Tuk Tuk und für 2€ ist man in der City. Das war das einzige und nicht relevante was man bemängeln könnte. Vielen Dank Shalika

Such a lovely place - huge rooms (which were very clean and comfortable) with a wonderful view. The breakfast was delicious and the amazing family who own it were so helpful and accommodating in every way

The value for money is excellent! The owner is very helpful and makes your stay feel like home. A huge plus is her help with booking tuk-tuks, as the house is a bit far from the center. The delicious breakfast with a view of the beautiful, green hills is unforgettable :)

Our stay at Ella Family House was an absolute delight. The views were truly spectacular, and the facilities were both comfortable and well maintained, making it easy to relax and enjoy the surroundings. One of the highlights was the breakfast, both Sri Lankan and Western options were offered, and everything was delicious and generously served. It was a wonderful way to start each day. The host was incredibly responsive, and communication throughout our stay was seamless, which made everything smooth and stress free. While the location is slightly away from the main town, it’s only a short drive in. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Ella!

The only minor point for feedback would be that the shower pressure could have been a bit stronger, but this didn’t take away from an otherwise perfect stay.

Современная вилла с красивым видом. Дружелюбная хозяйка, готовила вкусные завтраки, через нее вызвали тук-тук на 4-х людей. В номере было чисто, работал кондиционер, есть фен, холодильник, чайник. По ночам в Элле холодно, плюс 17. Лучше взять свитшоты.

Ночью немного шумно он дороги, если вы плохо спите, то советую беруши.

Wow, wow, wow! If there is a room available here then you must book it! This is one of the greatest places we have ever stayed during years of travelling. Stay with Shalika and her wonderful family - they are the most welcoming and caring hosts who always go above and beyond for their guests. The room is fabulous (we had booked the family room). All the facilities are excellent and very clean. The beds are very comfortable and great air conditioning. There is a beautiful view of the mountains and the Monastery from the balcony. Shalika made us a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast every morning which was the best we have ever tasted - she is an excellent chef. We were also fortunate to have dinner cooked by her on our first night and this was absolutely excellent. The best Sri Lankan curry we have had during our stay. The property is located about 5 minutes drive from Ella centre or about a 25 minute walk. It is easy to arrange a tuk tuk to take you to and from the centre. This costs between 500-800 LKR per trip. Shalika was able to arrange this for us many times. Ella centre is busy and lovely but also a little bit loud. This property is the best as it provides peace and quiet so close to the centre. Shalika also helped to arrange taxi’s, driver’s and trips for us as we requested. Nothing was too much to ask of her. I cannot encourage you enough to stay here if you find yourself in Ella and you are fortunate that there is a room available for you. Book it now! Bardzo przyjemny pobyt! Hotel czysty i zadbany, pokoje wygodne i komfortowe. Z okien rozciąga się piękny widok, który dodatkowo uprzyjemnia pobyt. Jedzenie bardzo smaczne, domowe i świeże. Szczególne podziękowania dla przemiłej pani gospodarz – serdeczna, pomocna i dbająca o każdy detal. Zdecydowanie miejsce warte polecenia!

Een hele fijne ruime kamer. De host was uiterst vriendelijk. Ook toen er iemand ziek was was ze erg betrokken en bood alle hulp aan. Het ontbijt was heerlijk en uitgebreid en het uitzicht is bijzonder mooi. Met een tuktuk die de host voor ons regelde zit je binnen 5 minuten in het bruisende centrum van Ella.

Hotel zachwycił nas pod każdym względem – pokoje są przestronne, czyste i zadbane, a z tarasu rozciąga się przepiękny widok na okoliczne wzgórza. Śniadania były smaczne i różnorodne, przygotowywane ze świeżych, lokalnych produktów. Największym skarbem tego miejsca jest jednak właścicielka – cudowna, życzliwa i zawsze gotowa pomóc. Dzięki niej poczuliśmy się jak w domu, a nie w hotelu. Jeśli ktoś szuka idealnego miejsca w Ella – ciszy, komfortu, fantastycznego jedzenia i prawdziwej gościnności – to właśnie tutaj! ❤️

Die Lage ist super, nicht mitten in Ella wo der ganze Trubel ist aber trotzdem Zentral. Bei Anreise haben wir nach Dinner gefragt und bekamen ein unglaubliches gutes Abendessen. Selbst nach Abreise hat uns die Familie noch geholfen weil unser TukTuk defekt war! Wir würden sofort zurück kommen.

Very clean and spacious rooms with a beautiful view of the Buddhist temple on top of the hill. Our host, Shalika, and her family took exceptionally good care of us. We would definitely come again!

Stop looking and book Ella family house for your stay in Ella ! We were lucky to be the firsts to stay in their brand new family room and it was incredible! The 180 degree view from the glass windows and doors, the ac and fans, the beautifully designed modern bathroom, the comfortable beds and the crib for our baby made our stay perfect. The town is nearby, there’s a great parking spot provided at the house. But what made our stay outstanding is the incredible hospitality of the whole family, the delicious breakfast and seeing our son play and laugh with their daughter. Thank you for everything, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Ella!

Die Gastgeberin kümmert sich rührend um ihre Gäste. Das Frühstück ist total lecker, das Zimmer war groß, sauber und modern.

Wat een geweldige plek. De host is heel attent en regelt alles wat je nodig hebt. Deze accommodatie ligt buiten Ella en is met de Tuktuk in ca. 7 min te bereiken. Voor ons was dat prima. De accommodatie is ruim, schoon en voorzien van een airco, koelkast en schoonwatertank. In het dal ligt een weg maar wij vonden die niet storend. Voor ons was het een ideale plek om de omgeving van Ella te ontdekken. We hebben zelfs 2 nachten bijgeboekt. Het ontbijt is inbegrepen en zeer uitgebreid. De prijs voor deze accommodatie is echt goed. Ik zou hier zo weer naar toe gaan.

Zimmer sind gut aufgeteilt und sauber. Das Beste am Hotel ist der Service. Unsere Gastgeberin war super nett und hat jeden Wunsch erfüllt (Tuk Tuk Fahrer, anständige Van-Fahrer und perfekt hergerichtetes Frühstück mit Früchten aus dem eigenen Garten). Wir konnten jederzeit auf WhatsApp schreiben was wir möchten und die Gastgeberin hat es organisiert. Zudem spricht sie sehr gut Englisch, somit konnten wir uns beim Frühstück Tipps für Unternehmungen in Ella holen.

Tolle Aussicht mit Blick auf die Berge und den Mahamevnawa Buddhist Tempel, abseits des trubeligen Gewusels. Das Frühstück ist absolut fantastisch. Wir konnten gar nicht genug davon bekommen. Shalinka war eine ganz wundervolle, herzliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeberin. Und Ihr Abendessen sollte man während des Aufenthalts nicht verpassen. Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen und würde jederzeit und gerne wiederkommen.

Fijne, ruime kamer en badkamer. Eigenaren zijn heel erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Heerlijk Sri Lankaans gegeten en een kookworkshop gevolgd. Wij zouden hier zeker nog een keer terugkomen.

After we had to cancel our other stay in Ella due to shifting plans we found Ella Family House at the last moment, and we were very happy we did! We had the family room and this worked very well for us (family of 4 with kids aged 4 and 6) The beds were good, the curtains made it fairly dark (which is way better than the average in Sri Lanka) and we had everything we needed. The food was amazing and the host made sure we got everything we wanted, as well as giving great tips. Our only doubt was that booking said there was no airconditioning, but there actually was! The view is amazing as well and the garden and common area are a great place to relax. It is close to Ella (5 min by car) but not in the busy center. We didn’t have any problems with the sound of the nearby road as some other reviews mentioned.

Shalika and her family were amazing! The house is beautiful with gorgeous views, very comfortable and clean and very nice aesthetic. Breakfast was delicious and Shalika so friendly in making sure we had everything we need and arranging tuktuks for us. We would definitely recomment this place for your visit to Ella!!

De gastvrijheid!! We hebben zeer last minute geboekt owv het wegvallen van onze initiële overnachting. Ze heeft alles gedaan om goed mogelijk op te vangen. Daarbij zorgde haar dochtertje dat onze kinderen zich ook meer dan welkom voelden!

Niets bijzonders, enkel het weer viel wat tegen maar daar konden zij niets aan doen!

Flott stad å overnatte litt utanfor Ella, roligare av den grunn. Enkelt å ta tuktuk til sentrum. Veldig hyggelig familie som eier plassen og vi følte oss som om vi var ein del av familien. Hadde også middag der og kokekurs som kan anbefalast. Veldig bra pris til det ein får.

Na rijden op een onverhard stukje weg kom je bij de Ella Family House. Het leek alsof ze ons al stonden op te wachten. De gastvrouw en man stonden al klaar om ons te verwelkomen. Het family house is gebouwd tegen de berg en onze koffers werden gelijk van ons over genomen en met gemak naar beneden getild. Het huisje is super schoon en netjes. De bedden zijn ruim en lang genoeg. Onze twee kinderen hadden een eigen bed met goede kussens en dekens. Tip: de gastvrouw bood ons aan om een avond bij haar te eten. Zeker gebruik van maken! Het eten was fantastisch! Daarnaast heeft ze voor ons alle taxi/tuktuk ritjes geregeld. Zeker gebruik van maken, ze regelt goede chauffeurs met correcte prijzen! We hebben hier heerlijk genoten van alle bergrust! Daarom een dikke tien!

Wenn Ihr ein Guest House in familiärer Atmosphäre sucht, dass schöne Zimmer, eine tolle Küche und einen wunderschönen Blick auf den Bergtempel bietet, seid Ihr hier genau richtig. Die liebevolle zauberhafte und herzliche Familie sind großartige Gastgeber und kümmert sich um alles. Auch um einen Transport in die nah gelegene City von Ella. Ein Kochkurs mit den typischen Gerichten von Sri Lanka wird ebenfalls von der Gastgeberin angeboten. Einfach fragen, auch wenn Ihr das hervorragende Abendessen genießen möchtet. Zum Frühstück gibt es Obst und Gemüse aus dem eigenen Garten.

Wij hebben erg genoten van ons verblijf! Een erg ruime en moderne familiekamer met een prachtig uitzicht. Enorm lieve mensen die hun uiterste best doen om het naar je zin te maken. Zeker een aanrader!

A beautiful place just minutes from central Ella with stunning views and all the facilities our family needed. Shalika and her husband were incredibly kind and helpful, they went above and beyond. Breakfast was generous with a selection of Sri Lankan specialities, fresh fruit, tea and coffee, and the home-cooked traditional dinner with vegetables from her garden was one of the best we had on our whole trip. They also arranged all our transport for our stay and even gave us a free ride to the train station. Can’t wait to come back!

Close to Ella and a great view up to the temple. We had a warm welcome and enjoyed our stay with Shalika and her lovely family. I recommend tasting cinnamon leaves in the garden.

My family really enjoyed our stay. The host was very friendly and helpful—in fact, she welcomed me even before we arrived. We came by train, and she kindly offered us transportation from the station, which was very thoughtful of her. I wouldn’t mind coming back again.

Das Personal war überragend, es wurde nicht nur für den Transfer in die Stadt gesorgt, sondern uns wurden auch ungefragt frische Kokosnüsse zum trinken geöffnet, generell waren das Personal sehr zuvorkommend und das Frühstück super! Der Ausblick der Unterkunft wunderschön mit schönen Blick auf Tal und die Berge.

Es gab leider keine Klimaanlage und leider ist am letzten Tag einer von zwei Ventilatoren ausgefallen. Außerdem hatte das Zimmer ein bisschen wenig Stauraum, was ein wenig zu Chaos geführt hat, da wir zu fünft waren.
