Very comfortable bed, well appointed bathroom. Safe off-road parking behind security gate. Quiet surrounds. Peaceful location.

Reviewed Sep 4, 2025I stayed at Umuzi Guest House for three nights prior to spending six weeks doing conservation in the African bush. It was a very enjoyable short stay, made so largely by the consideration shown to me by the hosts, Annie and Gary. They not only came to pick me up at the airport and then took me back when it was time for me to leave, they took me out to shop when it was raining (it’s an easy walk to the shops and restaurants when it’s nice) and they even offered to cook me breakfast. It was more like I was a friend visiting than a paying guest. The guest house itself is in located in a quiet section of Richard’s Bay with an attractive pool out front. My room was perfect for a single person or a couple, providing a comfortable bed, plenty of space to stow belongings, a nice sofa, and a kitchen with all the basics. The bathroom is very comfortable with both a shower and a bathtub. There was some difficulty with leaking of the roof during a heavy rain, but it wasn’t a problem; I didn’t even change rooms, though they offered me the opportunity as soon as I told them about the issue. In short, I would highly recommend staying at this guest house for anyone staying in Richard’s Bay, particularly if you’re there for an extended stay.
There was nothing about this property I didn't like. Even the leak in the roof during the rain did nothing to dampen my appreciation of this place.

Reviewed Jun 21, 2025The place is not clean with a stench of urine in the bathroom. Understandably there was no water supply from the municipality line. Spent two days without water to wash it flush toilet and the host never bothered to even offer me at least a litre of water to wash my face and brush my teeth. Had to go and buy water for the bath as I had to go and attend the board meeting. The host was locked upstairs not bothered about downstairs. I believe that if I was certain race, I would have receive another kind of treatment. Would never recommend this establishment.

Reviewed Mar 18, 2025Lovely place, super nice host! We stayed there only for one night, the accommodation is great, and we loved the pool area. Breakfast was also good. The only downside is there's not much to do in Richard's bay and the beaches were really not great, but that gave us more time to enjoy this lovely accommodation! Great recommendations from the host to what else we could do around though.

The room was tiny, no white bedding, the room had a weird smell, the tea coffee area was not convenient to use, tiny. Outside room view not great, the shower nozzle should be changed. The breakfast was not great, no fruit, mushy eggs, had to ask for bread and hot water for tea
